That's not all you get though, if you choose option A you get:
1. Your "integrity"
Whereas choosing option B will result in:
1. 900 million ISK. (That's 900,000,000 for those of you who like large numbers)
2. The knowledge that you got 900m ISK for free.
3. Bragging rights about getting 900m ISK for free.
4. Anything else you can do with 900m ISK without spending it.

I'd probably give the money to the pirate. I am too nice of a guy to screw somebody like that.
Although you should message him about it regardless what you are going to do. Who knows, maybe he figured he screwed up and written off the amount. Then you can have a clear conscience and 900,000,000 ISK.

Irwin, have you ever thought that you might worry too much what others think of you?
If you are concerned with strangers opinions of you, you might want to consider that if you give back that 900 million, maybe more people will think of you as 'dumb' as opposed to 'Honorable' 
Also, consider the longterm... are you going to be playing Eve a long time? With 900 mill in your back pocket, you'll have an easier life than most, a smart player can make 900 mill last a long time...
Or, you can give the money back (probably causing bemused amazement to the pirate) and feel good at least for a little while, until you become short on isk - ironically probably after losing a nice ship to a pirate.
Like other podpilots have said, cut the cr*p, keep the money, and smile at a lucky break - and while some people might claim you lack honour, at least no-one will be thinking of you as a fool.

I'd say how much you want to keep the difference would have to outweight how much you and your corp feel like going to war if the other guy gets angry is what should guide your decision

That money he probably made off killing other players and selling thier loot, i doubt he earned it anymore than you did.

..besides, if you give it back, he'll only go and buy more battleships and i bet he wont use them for mining either.

Oh, okay then, thanks AE.
Under light of new information, a new opinion is warrented.
Since both parties are involved in the mass circle-jerk that is T2 production, under the circumstances, it would be best if 'those pennies' get tossed into my isk-wallet instead of the pirates.
It can be said with a straight face that this course of action would indeed be the honourable course to take.

"He's a pirate" Is a perfectly fine excuse.
Pirates in eve are the Murderers and Thieves of real life, even when you are not a roleplayer, but just a carebear, it doesnt make much sense to give "your enemy" or "criminals" more money then you need to, just so he can be even more aggressive against you and your law abiding kind.
Keep the money, he's just a pirate.

There is a chance that he didn't even notice and still hasn't noticed. Maybe 900 mill is nothing to him. Maybe he thinks that you didn't notice because 900 mill is nothing to you.
I'd wait and see if he contacts you about it or not. If he doesn't either he wrote it off as his own dumb mistake or he didn't notice. If he does notice and he contacts you then I'd claim total innocence and then, maybe, pay him back

reason being there are some pirates that are honerable and he could be one you could find that his entire pirate circle gives you the no kill treatment be able to go into areas and not get podded by there snipers and gate camps.
then again you could give the money back and he could just pod you next time he sees you. but you will still have kept your honer

My evil twin would keep the cash, because it's nice to have it.
My really-damned-evil twin would use the 900 million to pay a mercenary corp to attack that other person. After all, it's his money, what's better than to give it back to him?

I'd sell the bpo then convo him and say you want to buy something else off him.
If he agreed I'd hope that the default maximum amount of isk in your wallet appeared in the trade box whenever you tried to buy the item.
Then I'd constantly flash the 990 million profit you made in the trade window until he got sick and logged off/local reaches triple figures.
For additional amusement I'd click on the yes/no button to complete a trade too.
See how many times you can do this before he tries to catch you out by putting an item in the window and clicking yes himself.

Interesting problem.
I suppose it comes down to what one of the other posters said, what will make you happy or comfortable. It is just a game, but you also struck a deal. You've already gone past the momentary glee of such a stroke of luck. Now is the realization that you haven't really kept your word, have you?
The solution is simple. Be true to your own character and beliefs whatever they may be. How the seller obtained the item, makes little difference to the deal you struck. I really don't think scammers and such are a happy bunch. A real pirate in the game is roleplay.

Lets analyze what has transpired here:
You thought you were buying a BPO for 'X' isk
Instead, somebody made a mistake and so you bought said BPO for 'Y' isk
Hence you realized your mistake and then your concience forced you to publicly disclose this OBVIOUS Mistake of GIGANTIC PROPORTIONS to the rest of the universe.
Then you received many replies about what to do...
Pretty much sums it up, eh?
The answer is quite obvious really...GIVE ME THE BPO

i don't get you pirate guys referring to "honor" while saying the guy to give the money.
pirates are the scum without honor, hitting people when they are weak, taking advantage of people's mistakes.
why then should this person not take advantage of the pirate's mistake? why do you think that the backstabbing griefer pirate has more honour than this guy if he doesn't give the money?
so yes, by your own words, this is the pvp game where sec status doesn't matter, and this is the exact reason why the guy should NOT give the rest of money.

All Joking aside, I think you should give the man his loot. By what you have said and the amount of anquish you have put yourself through over the issue I think you would not enjoy spending the ill gotten gains of this man's folley. Be honest with him. Tell him that you were tempted to keep it becuase you percieve him as a pirate but that your concience won't allow it. Don't make any conditions for the return of his money. Take the high ground and simply send it back. The relief this guy is going to feel once he gets his loot back will make him and his friends your allies for life.

Something similar happened with me, but i was the one buying. I got something for 20 Mil instead of 200 Mil.
To me this is a different type of ruining someones gameplay to killing there ship. So, we agreed on a settlement figure. which suited both parties. Its not my fault he messed the Escrow up, yet i know these things can happen. So i ended up paying 165 Mil for something that was supposed to be 200 Mil.
Personally this is what i think you should do Irwin. Your still taking advantage of his mistake, yet not leaving him with nothing

The man's sec status could have been caused by pod killing enemy's in low sec (negative standings but no war) but is not relevant to how you choose to behave. The question is not whether he is a pirate or not.

Ask yourself:
Taking his sec status in account with his style of play, would he reimburse you if such a mistake was made on your part?
Probably not, he'd be on the forums bragging about how he scammed some carebear.
I'd keep the ISK.
Maybe he looted this BPO through his pirating actions, so he definitely does not deserve the ISK in that case...
