I have been a part of this wonderful corp for the past three months and it has been well worth it. If you are looking for a great group of people that are patient and do not ridicule your lack of knowledge this is the place. You can learn everything here that you desire to know. I have learned how to tank, rat, mine, tackle, create instas, refine, production, hauling, and much more. If you don't know what some of the items I just listed mean, then this is the place for you! I will say this...
When I first came to EVE, long ago, I found one oasis in the desert. I was a complete n00b, wet behind the ears and full of ambition. EVE University pointed me in the right direction, and I've never looked back.
I fully endorse the EVE University experience, and would go so far as to say it should be mandatory for new players to the game. These folks give their own time to further the cause, and I for one respect the hell out of them for it.
I'm a teacher in real life (college) and I know of what I speak. I wouldn't have gotten to where I am today in EVE if it wasn't for my initial EVE Univ. training.

Unfortunately, Eve University must stop classes for the duration of the Mercenary Coalition war, at least 8 days.
Students and Professors now put down their books, pick up their rifles, and march off to war.

For the few that are faithfully waiting the University to re-open Admissions, heres my advice to you.
Don't Bother.
Although the University's Members and Directors are an inmense source of information
(Which you can tap into through the Eve University Chat channel anyways), the internal policies and alliance politics are questionable at best.
You get absolutely little to no respect from Allies, at all! because.. wait for it... you guessed it! you are (more often than not) a new player. 
Don't you dare question or even worse suggest anything to the Commodores of the Alliance, you are just a newbie from E-UNI, what could you posibly know?
So clear out of your minds the idea of adventure and jeopardy of joining an Alliance, because to their eyes you are nothin' but an asteroid humper. And even then you aint no better than neutrals humping BWF's Asteorids.
Don't bother looking to do business with allies since if you dare ask anything they'll imediately think you are asking for a handout (regardless if you have got isk to pay).
I'd say save yourself the indiference, the condescending attitude  and more than nothing the trouble of joining such an alliance.
(Hey, it comes with the package of joining E-U).
