...In my case, I am Gallente, I am a proud Gallente citizen. However, aside from corporation doctrine, I choose to fly Caldari ships. Why?
When a station agent offers me a mission that requires me to destroy the Caldari (my favorite kind), having a Caldari ship (running silent, of course) makes those dogs think they are getting reinforcements - until that first missile salvo. I find it is easier on me personally, since they see Caldari warp in, they are hesitant to fire. They only know something is up when they see those cruise missiles heading their way. Gallente liberties MUST be upheld.
Oh I have picked up some of their escape pods of course, but they are never treated to a warm welcome on MY ship. The cargo hold crew usually subdues them and into the brig they go. I prefer to collect my bounties with my prey alive. Then, station security can have their way with 'em.
I agree, this type of thing is similar to the Guristas pirate doctrine, only I REALLY dislike pirates also, and nothing makes me happier than seeing a Serpentis vessel shooting flames from various decks. I have also gone toe-to-toe with the Blood Raiders on occasion, and probably utterly confused some of their cruiser captains that find their ships going down to one of my Incursi.
But mostly, I just love duping the Caldari. Taking one of the States ships and turning it against the State is one of many things I LOOOOVE to do.
If anyone does similar, I would love to hear their story! |

I prefer to fly Caldari ships as well, but mostly because I wouldn't be seen dead in one of those floating phallic symbols that Roden and his ilk seem to enjoy designing and building.
Personally I love using my Caldari ship to stomp Gallente ships flat - because they seem to expect to be outclassed (given how hard they try to escape) and then, having given them a chance to prove themselves halfway competent, you get them anyway. I always pick up Prisoners of War from their ships, because we signed the Interstellar Law of Arms that requires us not to leave them to die in Space. It's especially amusing when we treat them with dignity and humanity - despite the propaganda they've been filled with that makes them expect harsh treatment.
How I laugh as they're escorted to reasonably sized secure-quarters and provided with replacement clothing and warm food! And the look on their faces as we offload them at an independently monitored Prisoner of War facilitly, where they are given productive work to perform whilst the repatriation process is underway.
Using my Caldari ships to completely outclass Gallente pilots as both combat pilots AND decent human beings is something I just LOOOOOVE to do.
Not for your crews, if I find you though, Msr Achasse. Given your behaviour, I'm going to reclass you as a Pirate - and as such your crew will forfeit their rights and any privileges. For crews like yours, we have an arrangement with TSF whereby we can swap them for Caldari POWs before they go into Nation's vats for processing. Sleep well. |

I try to fly solely Kingdom ships, but considering the training required to pilot the various models takes some time to complete, I make do with regular Amarr ships. The technology may not necessarily be up to the standards I'm used to, but they work in a pinch.
When it comes to those baseliners I find floating in space, the Caldari are given over to the State least I invoke their ire. The Gallente, Minmatar and Amarr go to the slave pens and re-education programs. As long as my manufactoriums are in lowsec, the officials are keen to look the other way, when they even find out. It's a delicious irony to be running production facilities in the privacy of my hanger using a predominately Gallente workforce while aborad a Gallente station. |

I'm angry on three counts: 1. You've just demonstrated that one of Diana Kim's insane, paranoid rantings (namely, that Pyre-Falcon are in league with Sansha's Nation) was actually correct and in that dismissing it out of hand like I usually do I was actually in the wrong about her for once, which is monumentally embarassing.
2. You're equating giving people to Sansha's Nation to death, whereas in fact death would be a far, far preferable alternative.
3. You're giving people to Sansha's Nation.
4. You're smugly boasting about giving people to Sansha's Nation. Mane 614

I'm not condoning Pilot Achasse's brash statement or attitude, but handing people over to Nation.... It seems beneath you. Those peoples have wives and children too.
Sorry, I know this is straying from the initial topic. In response to the title of this thread, I have to say that I too prefer State vessels, if I am flying anything larger than a Destroyer-class vessel. Even though I graduated in Gallente ships, I never could get over how backwards the systems felt to me. Not only that, but since I do like to spend a fair amount if time among my crew when possible, I find that the straightforward layout of Caldari deck design is much easier for me to navigate without feeling like I'm walking in circles.
I will admit though, I do not usually get a warm welcome at most system gates I traverse near my homeworld. Especially after last year's events in Luminaire. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. |

I always held you in high regard, and Pyre as well, but I was not aware of this tidbit of information. Capsuleers of all factions fought together when Nation first arrived to hold them back as much as we could. It was the one thing they agreed on, even tho there was still internal strife; that stopping Nation took precedence over national conflicts. Even now, combined capsuleer fleets of various factions engange Nation whenever they can...
Countless worlds got attacked, dozens of millions got taken for fates Citizen Astur and Slave Tama01 were all to eager to explain. The 'chosen' become true slaves, the usable ones get duplicated as drones, and the unsuitable ones become biomass for them.
You do this to save Caldari POW from their fate, by sending others to this cruel fate. Perhaps it's time to figure out where they get those POW from...fight the origin, not the symptoms. Go to the Gallente Prisoncamps, and liberate the POW there, hell expose to the Gallente Federation media on how badly they are treated, use the Gallente system against them, and then even fed citizens will follow the sentiment that Caldari POW should be treated better.
Or if it's Sansha taking Caldari POW, then you are aiding an enemy of the State ( which they already are....) in continuing their criminal acts. And your trade will only help them continuing their raids against the State, because they know they got a deal with your corporation.
I can go on, and keep ranting, thinking of the worlds that got entirely depopulated by Sansha, Caldari worlds , but I feel it would serve no use, I'm just a silly Achura, not really part of the State according to some, even tho I support it for all the good they brought to Achur.
I'm dissapointed in you Pieter Tuulinen, I always looked up to you, a true Caldari. I am also dissapointed in Pyre, a corporation that embodied the State's determination in the Faction Warfare.

Here's my take on it:
Where do they come from? If they're civilians & militia captured by Nation, you only assist an enemy in the State in strengthening themselves as they lose nothing in the trade, only exchanging PoW they just captured for pirate crew.
If their origin is from Gallente prisoncamps, same deal, eliminate the middle men (Sansha) and liberate them from the prisoncamps, you'll create much more loyal caldari citizens that way. On top of that, considering the way the Feds treat their POW, you can expose it to the gallente media, bring some reporter along to show how they're treated, turn the system against them! Should help putting some wind out the sails of the Black Eagles control over those prisoncamps, making life a bit more bearable for those still imprisoned.
We know from Slave Tama01 & Citizen Astur how Nation categorizes their captives / 'liberated civilians'. The most promising ones end up as Slaves. Those who are of use due to a variety of reasons get cloned en masse to serve as crew. And finally, those who are unsuitable get recycled into biomass for the clones. Undoubtly, Sansha would only trade those 'unsuitable' civilians back, in exchange for pirate crew that might contain promising or usable people... So in the end, Pyre's agreement just serves as a way to strengthen Nation.
The major dilemma we face is this: is the safe retrieval of (possibly infected) civilians worth to strengthen Nation? In my opinion, how harshly it sounds, the answer is no. On short term, saving them by exchanging for criminals does look like the best course of action, but on the long term it only helps Nation in accumulating better individuals at a slightly accelerated rate without any additional costs.
Lets ask a question in return, would you strengthen the Federation if you could recover POW from them in exchange? Note I specifically say strengthen, because that's what the trade means for Nation, they get a chance for more suitable members in exchange for the 'useless chaff' they can only use as biomass. -áThe Sleeper Desolation First year anniversary of the Caldari Prime battle was a success! |

But hey, these are hardcore Caldari fighters who ain't afraid o' nothin', so I'm sure the day will come when a TSF dissident/incompetent removes pretty much every obstacle and threat for these brave warriors, who will swoop in, take out what little resistance there is left, save the prisoners, and let everyone know how awesome they are for it.

For obvious reasons PFDC will not share information to the public it considers of importance to operational security by default. This really is none of your business, but since speculations are, as usual, running wild I've been authorized by the board to make the following clarification:
Elements picked up after contact with hostiles are subject to state laws and will be, whenever possible, handed over to the authorities or, protected by the same set of laws and upon deliberate approval, moved as penal labour workforce to a model facility in the Kingdom. Only elements not protected under state laws or waiting for their firing squad would be eligible for an exchange such as the one being condemned here.
PFDC continues to operate with the greater good of the caldari state and its subjects in its mind, which forms the solid basis for all decisions made in the past and future, and elements disagreeing are not going to change the course as public opinion is not and never will be the basis for decisions made.
Be it as it may you are all welcome to indulge yourselves in conjecture and condemn us some more - it will not change the fact that we're not afraid to get our hands dirty to achieve results.

You know, we might be open to the idea of making similar trades with other groups as well assuming that it does not conflict with our previous arrangement with Pyre Falcon. Assuming any of you can swallow your smug attempts at moral superiority in order to understand that we CAN be dealt with on an honest basis.
I'll say this for Pyre Falcon. They have probably collected more Caldari assets from us than any of you have put together for your own races. We are an eminently rational group, and we respond well to offers made with that in mind.
And I will say this for us. Whenever we maintain battlefield control after a skirmish or a battle, we take the time to go through your ships and rescue anyone we can. We medically treat them. We feed and clothe them. The fact that we CAN return them to Pyre Falcon afterwards shows that they are not immediately assimilated into Nation. Do you want your people back? Then lets make a deal.
Do you want your people back from Pyre Falcon? Then you need to be talking to them.

My sister Danika and I have always flown vessels built with proven Caldari engineering.
I find a certain simplicity and dependability in shields, along with missiles, which provide versatility as a weapon.
This was almost exclusive until recently. Having since began work for a new employer we've found ourselves in the position where we need to drastically diversify our piloting skills because of doctrine. Thus today you could find us piloting vessels from almost all of the Empires, and those of the various factions inbetween.
In the past we've always held a singular-skill doctrine within our family's operations. Pilots will specialize in a 'brand' of vessel and continue to refine those skills over time rather than branch out into other 'brands'. While this naturally limits the pilot's versatility it does however produce ones who're very highly skilled in their individual ship preferences.
My Tengus have always been my bread and butter, but as I write this post via my comm I'm sitting in a relatively new Proteus. It kinda feels so wrong, but also feels so right, because in all honesty I've found these things to be incredibly tough when either dealing, or receiving, damage. It does take some getting used too though.

I'm well aware of what business dealings we've had with TSF. They gave us a free POCO once. It was empty.
Oh, and before my time in I-RED, TSF once discussed purchasing TCMCs from I-RED, but we never sold any to them.
We've never given them blue standings, shared drinks with them*, and handed over enemy POWs to them. We haven't bragging about it either. If anything, we regret any dealings we've ever had. Your decision to blue TSF happened under your Diplomatic Administration (you resigned afterwards, not before), and it was defended by you multiple times, including this time.
You "resigned your commission"? Don't make me laugh. It's a bluff. Nothing's changed, Pieter. You still fly for them, you still sleep with them, you still drink with them and defend them. Apparently, you're proud of the TSF deal, since you decided to bring it up again as a boast and threat on page one.
You tried to tell me how much you hated the idea. You tried to tell me how against the whole concept you were. You tried to tell me this because you wanted to continue visiting my partner and daughter. I was wrong to believe you, I guess, since here you are a couple months later.
You're proud of it. You like it. You're enjoying working with TSF.
Just admit it.

Oh, so you have had dealings with Nation, then? Thanks for publicly admitting the extent of your hypocrisy - since you've admitted receiving favours from them, does it really matter that you did so while holding your nose?
I've flown with them once, perhaps twice. I have helped process some of the recovered prisoners we've received to make sure there were no implanted surprises lurking. Actually they were a pleasure to fly with - focused, professional and above all competent at what they do. I might not enjoy who they are or what they believe, but I DID enjoy flying with them, in the same way anyone would enjoy flying with a competent ally.
I also didn't enjoy defending the deal, but it was my job to do so, and I did it until I resigned those duties. I did counsel against the deal - strenuously - and my advice was ignored. Exactly as I told you. Exactly as occurred.
What any of this has to do with looking forward to the utter de-humanisation of men who beat Caldari POWs for fun, I don't know - except that once again it exposes your mania for attacking other Caldari in your holy quest to make Ishukone look good. At any cost. In any fashion. No bridge you won't burn to the ground in order to win a cheap point. No confidence you won't betray to make you or your organisation look better.

I ask myself the same question every day, but then I am inclined to believe it may have something to do with my initial euthanasia and first clone. Or perhaps something that happened after.
Damaged goods is entirely correct. I'm more than damaged. I'm downright broken, incapacitated, and borderline non-functional. It's no surprise. Not to you, not to the woman who insists on staying married to me, not to the daughter who will have to grow up to me. Not to anybody who's ever known or worked with me.

As to the original topic, while I primarily fly Minmatar ships I also occasionally fly Caldari and Gallente designs as well. The right tool for the job, etc. Although I'm trained to pilot Amarrian vessels I've yet to do so and doubt that I will anytime soon as buying one could indirectly support the Empire or its interests. So far that consideration has outweighed the potential deliciously ironic fun of using an imperial designed ship, piloted and crewed by Matari, to destroy imperials.

Of course, this is a valid view if you are short sighted. However, we do not act as terrorists. We act as a nation that is, simply, alien to you and your ways. That's fine, it takes all kinds to make a universe and even though I have been tempted of late to abandon my Harmonist ways in favor of Anaxism, I still think that there is room for Nation and Everyone Else in the galaxy.
Do you want your POW's back? Then bargain for them, as would any state to another state. If you do not want them back then we will deal with them as we see fit, and we will be sure to tell them that their own people have given them up for lost in the process.

The point of the thread was to state what ships one prefers to pilot and why, with a decidedly nationalist bent to the discussion being established from the original post.
It's been gloriously derailed into an argument over the human fallibility and perceived hypocrisy of Mr. Tuulinen and his PYRE colleagues. Mixed with a healthy measure of KK/Ishukone antagonism which seems to be flavour of the month in the Summit currently. Sandcastles past or present are always fair game in such circumstances.

Ask the ones with the castles. My interests begin and end in the well being of one individual. Pyre asked for this to be kept quiet when it was initially discovered. Now a member thereof has thrown it out in the open immediately following a typical showing from their PR department. Drama... Woo... You can keep it, sand castles and all.
You can have whatever deals you please. Obviously. I don't care about the substance, the reasoning, or the outcome for either of your organizations, mister Thessalonia. Crown them kings, or burn them down. It doesn't matter, and I can't be any clearer. My concern is for Pieter, since my apathy for the remainder of Pyre began quite some time before any of this came about, on an unrelated note. |

Well said.
With your statement in mind can you confirm then that PYRE's trade of 152 former employees, at least some of whom were Caldari, to a Nation-loyal corporation in October YC115 was the "right way to deal with difficult circumstances"? Nation is still regarded as an enemy by the State and the megacorp that PYRE professes loyalty to, is it not? Has PYRE formally cut its past political and corporate links?
And if you're up to explaining it, what exactly were the "difficult circumstances" which prevented you recommending these former employees to either a Protectorate or State loyal corporation as an alternative? -á |

How reliable are these tests that you're performing on the rescued POW's? From my understanding, the right nano-bots can be very hard to detect and require extensive blood testing, which can take time.
And should you later find that those you exchanged were already compromised, what then? Seems to me that Nation has a lot more to gain from this deal than the State. They've established a clear line to serve you individuals you are happy to take back into the fold, despite their disposition.
Why would TSF be interested in such a deal? I doubt it's to build their credibility.
I must say that this is a pretty entertaining thread, though for all the wrong reasons. Some of the logic here is pretty disappointing.

Mr. Mintor, you've identified one of my concerns with this arrangement. Beyond merely making a deal with the devil, PYRE has exposed itself to contamination and subversion by the Sansha, and has accepted numerous potential Sansha agents back into the corporate fold. The security risk that PYRE is exposing themselves and the State to-- it's mind-boggling, to be honest. I think they've blinded themselves with their chant of 'we're doing the unseemly to serve the State.'

Sometimes, I feel as if the style of my langage is difficult to understand outside of the Kingdom, and I an required to re-phrase things to make myself better understood.
Of course some can disregard this issue, blaming translators, but my time in null has taught me a touch about simplifying my laungage to be better understood by the amazing collection of people of all races I call brothers and sisters, and so hopefully I can use this skill here, today. Unforunately, it has also removed some of the veneer of my eterenal politeness.
Everyone knows decisions made will effect how we are viewed by other capsuleers. Once one has signed a contract with the CFC, they learn to accept certain things in regards to prejudiced opinions against them, regardless of their demenaor, personality, and history.
I certainly get invited to far fewer parties, as if the presence of a single unarmed Capsuleer once allowed to even perform patriotic music in celebration of the event she attended coud lead to the downfall of an alliance.
Strange, that.
Pyre Falcon Defense and the Combine has always been a corporation and an alliance of actions, not of words. If one is observant enough, their mission statement has always been rather clear. They are military contractors. They will bloody their hands to defend the hands of the clean. They will take on the sins themsleves so that others can stay innocent. They are, truly, what Capsuleers have always been meant to be. They are killing machines. They are the tool to do the dirty work, and they take this heavy duty with neither complaint nor hubris.
What is bothering me, and has been leaking into several threads in the Intergalactic Summit like an oozing sore, is the malcontent of certain individuals that PYRE are doing things that are "not approved of" by the general community. This persecution, which it may surprise people to know is rather ineffectual to the corportaion who is the target of it, is getting tedious to watch.
I have been seeing it for months; in fact, I was nearly drawn into this 'investigation' myself, given 'evidence' of their 'horrific wrongdoing' -- when anyone with skills in math who knows what a POS layout is would state that the decision being drawn from this HUD image was a lie -- one that was still repeatedly inistsed on as an absolute truth, as if somehow, the questioner knew without doubt, even though the evidence did not support it.
But those lies persisted. How strange is that? Strangely, even more 'facts' starting coming to light that came from no source, no person, no computer, nothing, and they were treated as the most high truths. How is that possible from Capsuleers, the most paranoid humans in the psychological spectrum, to take things with no proof visible in New Eden as Scripture-like truth? Unles they themselves were the true criminals, I daesay with the highest of sarcasm that they must have been mind readers or omincient.
One can argue that in the end, here lies the confession in this very thread, and therefore all of those 'facts' were true regardless of their conspiuously missing sources, and the inquisition of Pyre Falcon that has gone on for months to the point of nearly cruel harrassment of their members has been therefore fully justified.
I will argue that all of those who have participated in this persecution have created a self fulfilling prophecy, like an fellow putting an umbrella over everyone's head and then claiming the sun went missing until nightfall, and only then removing the umbrella to show their 'truth'. [[The translator seems to be having issues with this euphemism]]
I ask -- where did all these umbrellas come from?
Because I suspect they didn't come from the New Eden Cluster.
Before anyone begins to point out the crimes of Pyre Defense Combine and that my defending them certainly must make me 'just as evil'-- aftera all, I am defending them, so therefore by some illogical jump of conclusion I must also support TS-F, I will point out that PYRE has attempted something that no one else has dared. They have not only attempted. They have succeeded.
They have succeeded and opened lines of communications in which the benefits outweigh the risks. Anyone who thinks this is impossble grossly underestimates the intelligence of the CEO of Pyre Falcon.
And before anyone cries that egardless it all proves PYRE Falcon are working with the enemy, I would like to be shown something.
I want to see your war reports.
I want to see your after action reports.
I want to see where the accusers have lifted a finger and have done anything more than blow hot hair into the Intergalactic Summit about people they claim are 'enemies' -- because as far as I can see, no one has declared war on these "Capsuleers with different beliefs" in the past four years.
Spare the excuses about CONCORD, war laws, and etcetera, or go ahead -- prove me right. Show me killmails. Show me where you have truly put yourself on the line for your convictions. Please. Restore my faith in Empire.
TS-F are Capsuleers.
You are Capsuleers.
If you don't like someone, go out into space, find them, and wage war against them. This is our born purpose as an Informorph. Start acting like you are worthy of the ISK that went making you. "I was dreaming once, and I dreampt of a world where I was nothing more than a biological fitting; a slave to the machine and crew, instead of the other way around. ...
Swallow your pride, Capsuleers, and start dealing with politics, because until such time as we make politics an anachronism, they're pretty much a fact of life. Negotiating with Nation or Nation supporters would recognize them as legitimate entities, therefore the only deals that can be had are at the end of a laser cannon. That is politics, the politics that very few capsuleers seem to understand. Diplomacy for the sake of diplomacy, compromise for the sake of compromise, business for the sake of business, peace for the sake of peace, these are not worthy pursuits. The Empire negotiating with the Republic and recognizing them as an independent government was a surrender, Ishukone negotiating with the Federation for half of Caldari Prime was a surrender, I-RED negotiating with or accepting a POCO from TSF was a surrender, Pyre negotiating with TSF is a surrender. Upholding integrity, even when you must make sacrifices to do so, is a part of politics, and it is a part that too many neglect. Anyone captured by Nation or Nation supporters is a casualty of war. Nation and its supporters need to be eradicated, not bartered with. They are not a legitimate nation; they are terrorists, and you do not negotiate with terrorists.
Ms. Kernher, I wonder then, to what lengths would your esteemed persons go to retrieve or rescue your own people from the clutches of your apparent enemy. What deals would you make to retrieve your brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters from the gaping maw of your enemy? What dark sacrifices would you make and hard truths would you accept to see the safe return of those you claim to care for?
If your responses thus far are any indication, then I fear for the safety of your crews.
Your unwillingness to compromise for the good of your own people speaks volumes about you as a person, and your views on human life. Your pride so dictates your actions that you are willing to abandon your friends and comrades to the Sansha than allow your own pride to be tarnished.
Furthermore, your abandonment only strengthens them, not weakens.
Or perhaps it is just that you have not been tested? I pray that you should not find yourself in their position and be found wanting. This is now a WIDOT thread! |

Miss Shahni, I really have no clue what you were trying to say for most of your post so I'm only going to address the part that made sense to me.
Quote:What is bothering me, and has been leaking into several threads in the Intergalactic Summit like an oozing sore, is the malcontent of certain individuals that PYRE are doing things that are "not approved of" by the general community. This persecution, which it may surprise people to know is rather ineffectual to the corportaion who is the target of it, is getting tedious to watch.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're bothered by the fact that some individuals are upset with the way other individuals are doing business. If this is true, I have a hard time imagining how to put up with everything else that goes on in this world. This is the Summit, and if people don't want their dirty laundry aired or prefer not to read about others dirty laundry then they can simply not take part and ignore it. When someone does something controversial, there's going to be some who do not approve. It doesn't mean any one side is right or wrong, it's just the way it works when you address topics that people have strong feelings about.
To PYRE, 'not giving a frakk' about anybody's opinion but your kin and countrymen, I caution you. That kind of thinking is dangerous and can often sew a hellish landscape for a future. At what point do you start to care what others think?
A wise man once said, GÇ£Wisdom consists of knowing how to distinguish the nature of trouble, and in choosing the lesser evil.GÇ¥ What choices are available and which is the lesser evil? You've traded one human for another and I wonder if this was wisdom. I'm no moral judge, just a man asking questions; some more rhetorical than others. I'm speaking not to prove something, as some seem to think, but rather to find better answers.
Even assuming that the individuals exchanged with PYRE are 100% healthy and free of nano-bots and other controlling mechanisms (including non-invasive brainwashing), there are still some questions, like why? Why are they interested and what are their reasons? More importantly though, why are you doing it? I understand these are your kin and you care for them. Despite many Caldari being tube-born, there is still a great bond between those who grow up and work together and this is true everywhere outside of the State as well. To spare those you love unspeakable torture and servitude to Nation, you will trade them for a stranger's loved ones. Ignore the moral dilemma there for now and consider instead your public image. The picture this story paints your corporation in isn't good, and though you "don't give a frakk", the image of patriotic Caldari is very important because when someone says "Why are we fighting them?" they can simply point at a metaphorical image of a Caldari patriot, exchanging their loved ones with Sansha Nation. Good for business if you want to be a merc the rest of your life, I suppose.
So you spare a few thousand Caldari a life in Nation, in exchange for sending a few thousand others in their place. At least it was the enemy. And while I do believe the phrase "better them than me" is one that explains our species' survival, we tread a dark path when we start to use that as our reasoning to do uncomfortable acts. Sometimes, there is another way.

As far as I can tell, you're really concerned with the Why behind all of this. I'm sorry I don't have more spare time to waste reading this amusing thread else I would have answered sooner. It's very simple.
We give Pyre X Caldari PoW's (Taken from State military ops in Placid mostly), Pyre hands over Y Non-Caldari PoW's taken from.....where ever. It really depends. Usually it's prisoners from the war zones but I don't know what all Pyre does when they undock. In this, Y is always a larger value than X. This is agreeable as the Foundations removes more people from Capsuleer hands and the Defence Combine rescues more State Citizens then either group could do alone and without the trade.
What does Pyre get from this? They get State Citizens back in to their hands. Unmolested, untouched except for routine medical procedures we do to assure the health and well being of individuals in our care. Unless you'd like to call Scherezad a Foundations and Nation sympathizer, you can check with her own findings of the individuals that have come from us as to how 'clean' they are.
What does the Foundations get from this? We are able to save more people together than we do on our own. The ethnicity or citizenship of people in our care doesn't matter to us. It matters to some others, so why would we not use the oddities of empire citizens to our advantage?
Given it does not conflict with prior existing arrangements, we are quite willing to make deals with any Capsuleer organization that can demonstrate the ability to make a deal and honor it. |

Also, we have no need to defend our credibility. Our record is shown in our actions and our past history; The foundations has never broken a deal that we have made in good faith, and in the few instances where it became clear that we were unable to fulfill the terms of an agreement we have always sought to make reparations. We are also deadly effective at prosecuting the aims of the Foundations, and of Nation when Nation calls on us to act in specific rather than in general.
Do you want your people back? Then deal with us on even keel and with the understanding that we are above all things rational actors. Our motivations are not difficult to understand by anyone with half a brain. Make us an offer that is better for us than not making a deal with you, with your own goals in mind, and we are likely to accept it. Say that we are 'terrorists' or that we are 'the enemy' and you only push us towards the path to Anaxism. After all, if we can't make deals with you that we can expect to be honored, we aren't likely to repeat the mistakes of the past.
Do you want your people back? Then do yourselves a favor and realize that the Foundations or Pyre are not the ones in this thread who are acting like fanatics. We bend.
If you don't bend, then like brittle iron, you will break.

She's a very clever scientist, of course. But you've essentially utilised someone who at best sympathises with TS-F and at worst is tacitly influenced and controlled by them as your firewall.
Pieter Tuulinen wrote:What I am certain of is that they are heroes who deserve another chance at life.
Well then, I suppose we should all be reassured by your certainty.
Pieter Tuulinen wrote:Ollie Rundle wrote:With your statement in mind can you confirm then that PYRE's trade of 152 former employees, at least some of whom were Caldari, to a Nation-loyal corporation in October YC115 was the "right way to deal with difficult circumstances"? Nation is still regarded as an enemy by the State and the megacorp that PYRE professes loyalty to, is it not? Has PYRE formally cut its past political and corporate links?
And if you're up to explaining it, what exactly were the "difficult circumstances" which prevented you recommending these former employees to either a Protectorate or State loyal corporation as an alternative? Criminals often find it hard to find respectable employment after being fired "with cause". The CERB no doubt took this into account, although I was not privy to their deliberations (thankfully - more than 30 straight hours).
Criminals now? Your statement on the YC115-10-25 makes no mention of criminal charges being laid, merely that the 152 former employees you traded to TS-F had acted contrary to establised corporate ethics and in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peach if left unchecked. Subsequently their employment was, as you said, terminated "with cause". All very routine.
While finding employment at the same level within the meritocracy of Caldari society might well have been shut off to them in the immediate sense, this does not - to my understanding - make them 'criminal'. So the questions posed, most of which you avoided answering, remain.
Is Nation still regarded by the State and KK as an enemy? If so, what are the politico-corporate implications of PYRE choosing to ally themselves with loyalist capsuleer corporations of said enemy? Will PYRE be formally announcing that their past corporate and State loyalties have now been terminated?
I would add one more question directly: Are you still profiting from the trade of Caldari personnel into TS-F's 'care' as you did with your former employees on October 25th last year?
Manwe Todako wrote:The debate regarding prisoner exchanges with TSF should be in its own thread to broaden participation and open the discussion. While this seems like a good idea on the surface, it might also finish with TS-F and PYRE making STON-style updates of POW's exchanged/rescued/liberated/uplifted and, really, the cluster can only take so much STON-style updating. -á |

Subsequently their employment was, as you said, terminated "with cause". All very routine. I think you need to look into State law. There really is no hard difference between breaches of corporate law and civil law - these people were tried for offenses by a tribunal that could, equally, have sentenced them to incarceration or a number of other corrective measures. In this case, the conspiracy to commit these anti-social offenses and the nature of the offences themselves rendered the employees irredeemable in the eyes of the CERB and their employment was terminated. Losing your job means losing your citizenship, in the State, and the loss of citizenship plus their conviction for crimes of that nature, rendered these people, likely, part of a permanent criminal underclass. A foreign corporation offered them employment, they accepted and we shipped them to that corporation's homebase.
Those are the questions I'm competent to answer, questions of the nature you are asking are really a matter for corporate leadership, amongst whose august number I am NOT.

Regardless of what you have or haven't seen Pieter, as I've already said at best you've utilised someone sympathetic to Nation loyalists as your filter for ensuring those POWs being returned to you are clear of threat.
If the security risk inherent in that decision needs to be explained to you further you're not as qualified as I thought you were.

Reynire is the base of operations for TS-F and has been for approximately two years.
If you have little interest in these former employees, legally, why did you and your corporation arrange for shipping of them to "that corporation's homebase"? Why not just leave this group of the "criminal underclass" to fend for themselves - why spare the extra corporate oversight and expense on a clutch of Caldari your tribunal had already judged beyond further utility?
Your stated actions and your words aren't adding up, Pieter. Are the lies and half-truths becoming too tangled to manage or are you deliberately displaying these anomalies in an effort to justify your own role in this?
I am inferring, based on your comments and my own investigations over the last 5 months, that PYRE - and yourself as part of the senior echelon of PYRE pilots - have been involved in the transfer of fellow Caldari to TS-F, a Nation-loyalist corporation based out of Reynire. If true this stands in contradiction to PYRE's State- and KK-loyalist credentials.

I'm going to save them this work.
We are still blue. We are remaining blue for the forseeable future. The reason for this is that we have ongoing business and trade deals that are mutually beneficial.
The benefit to them is that they get some Caldari patriots back from us. The benefit to us is that we get a larger amount of non-specific biomass. This comes from their POW's as well as other sources that are suitable enough for use in our purposes. We don't place as much importance on the specific source of our meat, after all, as most others do.
We have engaged in mutual combat operations from time to time because, and here is the thing, we are both groups that are very, very highly effective for our size. Pyre Falcon has something like a 40 kill per pilot ratio per month or something stupidily high like that. We have mutual enemies in the Gallente Federation, who are usually the targets of these operations. Other targets include basically any mutually neutral or hostile capsuleer, because that is just how things are done in the wilds of lowsec.
So, here is what we offer each other. We are two honorable business partners with similar ROE's but wildly divergent philosophies who have proven to each other that we can be counted on to stick to the terms of a deal and who have also proven to each other that we are amazingly competent on the battlefield, with mutual enemies to share between us. The fact that we know this is based on the fact that we actually took the time to talk to each other and learn these things.
Now, this has the side benefit for Pyre Falcon that if we happened to come across any of their Kirjuun in any of the ships we destroy, we would save that person, treat them for any injuries, and then return them promptly and without fanfare to Pyre Falcon. On the other hand, if we were to capture your crew, they would be treated just like anyone else who hasn't bothered to come and talk to us like reasonable human beings. They would be processed and given a better life in a more reasonable society.
Do you want to save them from that *snickers* horrible fate? Then come and prove to us that YOU are a reasonable actor. We don't care if your goals differ from ours. Pyre Falcon certainly does not seek Nation Ascendant. |

Loyalists and sympathiser capsuleers of all bents do tend to move around, Ms. Polevhia. Nature of the industry.
The fact that Scherezad is part of an alliance does not rationally prove nor disprove where her individual sympathies and motives lie.

Nice of you to be running PYRE's PR department for them, Tiberious. The quote above is probably the only important part to Caldari-loyalists and general fans of humanity in what you said.
It's interesting though that TS-F has chosen to be so vocal in its defense of PYRE. Usually, TS-F takes a rather passive-aggressive approach to IGS discussions only really coming out in force when there's something on the line that's important to you or where the cost of losing something might well be felt.

Yes, the very brief period she spent in my ship after we, in combination with several others, rescued her from being kidnapped by the Angels.
I believe she was in my custody, in a stasis container manufactured by those same angels, for all of fifteen minutes before I passed her off to other medical authorities.

There is no proof of her being a Nation loyalist, nor has anyone - outside of TS-F in their attempt to cloud the reading of the situation - made a claim of such.
Pieter Tuulinen noted that she is uniquely sympathetic to those who have neurological conditions with similar pathology to her own or to those in a position to help her. This is true. Various members of TS-F fit these two criteria and have, in the past, networked closely with her in regards to this. There is the question of whether she has - willingly or otherwise - provided TS-F with brain-scans and taken treatment from them to this end. Last I checked, she had not but TS-F were still pursuing such efforts.
It has nothing to do with drinks at a party. It is simple risk analysis and management. Where you cannot exclude something definitively, the safest course of action is not to rule it out. This is a process repeated in various situations we encounter on a day to day basis - corporate recruiting and the identification of spies and thieves being an example.
Sympathies are to be expected - TS-F are accomplished diplomats and there are aspects of Nation's ideaology that are not altogether disharmonious with the values, needs and desires of greater humanity.
If Scherezad was a loyalist I would have little hesitation in revealing her as such. She is not. She is, in my view, a sympathist and as such I choose not to trust her views or actions when dealing with issues either directly related to or tangentially connected with Nation.
Tiberious Thessalonia wrote:Anyone who so much as mentions our name without spitting on the ground in front of them is accused of being a Nation loyalist. It's hilarious to us and it just proves us right.

Nor is it about a witch-hunt, BS or otherwise, as much as TS-F are now trying to redirect this thread towards that purpose. -á |

I'd be uninvolved if that were not the case, as my own reasons for disliking the majority of Pyre are personal, established months and months ago, and unrelated to TS-F's activities in any way. I prefer just to avoid them and their antics when circumstances permit. It's easier that way. All that said... Were it not for Schere, I'd likely be a low functioning autistic at best, permanently comatose at worst. Some idiot trying to pull her into this stupidity isn't happening unchallenged. Not because of some stigma, real or imagined, attached to TS-F... But because she doesn't deserve to be pulled into such an idiotic exchange, by anyone, without a DAMN good reason.
You have a very funny way of showing that you are on his side when you have spent several threads doing nothing but attacking his family, rather than supporting him. |

You do realize I'm not defending anything, right? I was helping to clarify, making an educated guess (hence the words "I think") as to what they were talking about. I don't believe Scherezad is a 'plant' at all.
Anybody could be a plant. We still need to hire people. Spies, plants, etc. We do our best to filter out the bad apples, but eventually something can get through.
She's gone through the whole background check process, multiple interviews, medical records from both Lai Dai and our own doctors. She's gone through exams, physicals, and cross referencing galore. We've done our best to see if there are any obvious red flags, and found none.
Maybe we missed. It's entirely possible. I don't think we did.
Either way, she's working for us, we're glad to have her on-board, and we aren't worried about it.

That makes it easier to knock her off if you're proven wrong I suppose.
The point I'm making is that you've commented on your potential fallibility but are still trying to make the point that you've done nothing wrong and couldn't have possibly have made a mistake. I never said anything of the sort. I said I don't think she is compromised by Nation. That's my subjective opinion, not some hard fact I am trying to impress as objective. I'm not sure why this is so difficult for you to understand
I'm not in charge of recruitment, for the record. I wasn't even the one who interviewed her. All I did was give her the Job Preview, which is a sit-down where I discuss what we offer and where we can fit her in. I handled a pilot API check (alongside three others who also did), so there is that too. I didn't see her medical records. I didn't talk to the doctors who conducted them. I didn't even see her Lai Dai file.
That's all HR, which is not my department. The only reason I ran the API check at all was because she's joining my corporation and I help out with RDC recruitment. Ch+½j+́ Katrina Oniseki ~ (RDC) Chief Operations Officer ~ [I-RED] Director of Public Relations |

If you're asking me to support Pieter. Very well. I'd die for him, if needs be. If you're asking me to support PYRE. No.
Everything I've learned, by firsthand observation, and later, what was confided in me, paints a picture that's FAR from family. Contest it however you will, Tiberious, but about the only one who I've known to be family to him is his own wife, who I TRY to avoid being drawn into direct disputes with out of respect for that fact. Try, not always succeed.
What's on your agenda is an arrangement under fire, Tiberious. Fine, defend it, and I'll applaud not only the effort, but the apparent success of said effort against what you correctly termed a witch hunt.
Whats on mine is somebody who not only has had to clean up Pyre's messes over and over, publicly and privately, to the point of resigning such duties, but is now stuck right in the middle of yet another public vomit contest, because of a decision he didn't have a hand in, yet became a part of out of loyalty. Don't ask me to support the apparatus that has done that to it's own just for the sake of trying to prove how uncaring they are, no matter the logic... And yes, I do see the logic, of this single arrangement.
What I don't see is how I can support an organization whose public face, with one exception, has largely been vitriol and sarcasm for the better part of their existence. Pieter is that exception.
From where I stand, I have the abominable choice of sitting quietly while this happens, repeatedly, or taking flak from people who apparently have heard everything that I've ever spoken about, behind closed doors, with a monumentally frustrated friend. Given that choice, I choose to "attack" and draw out whoever else I can to the best of my ability, so he's not the only one taking fire from a collection of idiots who can't make the distinction between Pyre and Pieter. If that means I wind up being looked down upon by the audience, fine. I'd rather be seen as a fool than sit silently while this happens.
Thankfully, you at least are on his side in the broad sense. For that, and for flying his wing, I'm grateful.
Now... I'm not going to delve further into this. It's too personal, and with respect, I don't believe it would matter to you any more than the next man. If I'm wrong, then pull me aside sometime and I'll elaborate to the best of my ability. Since it seems the snipers on both sides have found other targets, I'll be perfectly content to bring my involvement to an end on this note, and wish you well on your way in whatever endeavor is to follow. |

Let's try this a different way since you seem to think this is about you rather than your parent corporation which you are so eager to defend.
It's not a question whether you personally think she is compromised or not, it's a comment on recruitment practices considering the information available. You've made it clear that you had knowledge (as a corporation) that your subcontractor had had prior interaction with capsuleer elements that your corporation has publically condemned, yet recruited her anyway!
Considering there have been other documented interactions between I-RED and TS-F that were mutually beneficial for both parties how can you expect anyone to take your clarifications with any sort of legitimacy? One might argue that your corporation has been...compromised. If only we had more people like Launette Vylier. |

For the record, it takes more than fifteen minutes to do any form of subtle implantation. It would take longer because of Scherezad's unique brain structure.
Your own boys words, Rosebud. You trying to say that fifteen minutes is actually meaningful in terms of employment decisions? If so, how does it actually affect it? From a security standpoint, it's meaningless, unless you'd like to outright contradict anything here?

There seems to be a basic flaw in human rationalization in terms of how we define an opponent who otherwise seems so very like us, something I have identified as the GÇ£Noble Enemy Blind SpotGÇ¥. The GÇ£Noble Enemy Blind SpotGÇ¥ disables us from honestly evaluating the motivations behind the actions of some of our opponents because we have erroneously attributed them with valuing morals that have defined civilization for many thousands of years.
Technology is not civilization, therefore nations that use advanced technology are not automatically more civilized nations. No honest person would argue that the Amarr were more civilized then the Minmatar, they simply had better spaceships and weapons technology and were able to conquer them.
We who admire technology, and yes capsuleers with our tight binding to our ships certainly qualify in that group, often mistake those wielding technology the best as the most civilized, sadly for the sake of humanity that is wrong thinking on our part.
If the often spoken grand ideals of nationalistic patriotism that make our opponents seem so like us while simply being on the other side of the coin enable them to participate in absolutely inhumane activity like human slavery and involuntary transfer of humans into the cyborg ranks of the Sansha it is high time we evaluate what it means to be truly civilized.
Our opponents are not noble, they are inhumane terrorists, preying on everyone not strong enough to defeat them, like a voracious bacteria infecting the body of humanity in the New Eden Cluster, we would do well to accurately evaluate them based on their actions and not their slippery words that allow them to dance around the basic values of decency that unite all humans regardless of nationalities.
There will never be peace with the Sansha or the Amarr, they are hellbent on total conquest of New Eden and only a fool would think otherwise. The Caldari are content to cast their ballots with these invading hordes because short term irrational fear of the Gallente negates their long term intelligence. The price they pay for this folly shall be great indeed, instead of being a defender of humanity they have started along that slippery slope that will place either slave collars around their necks or controlling implants in their brains making sure they serve their Amarr or Sansha masters. The worst part of this fate is that it will have been self inflicted by their fearful leadership. The Best Ship In EVE Online Is "Friendship", Power To The Players! |

Oh dear. I suppose I ought say something at this point. I shall do my best to be brief and polite, since emotions seem to be running high, and I'm apparently one of the points of contention in this discussion. So, to address the statements made:
Regarding the direction of my sympathies: I don't sympathize with people who are in a position to help individuals with my condition, sir. My condition is unique, and the care I currently receive is excellent. I co-operate with organizations researching palliative neurology. TS-F does employ a number of highly skilled neurologists and information scientists, but their research is augmentative, not palliative care. As such we have relatively little overlap.
I have never been given treatment from TS-F or its associates. I have discussed the topic with them, though can't recall the details. Do mind, though - I've discussed treatment with almost every recognizeable faction in the Cluster. A lot of people want to look at my brain for some reason, as it turns out! They might think it holy; I think they'll find it holey.
Regarding our work in screening rescued State citizens: This is something I can discuss more concretely. LDRBC has conducted, and still conducts, reception investigations on many parties returned to State space from Nation holding facilities or contamination zones. Our facilities are very thorough and the procedures are very expensive. Insofar as it is possible to screen for such anomalies, we have done so. Specific procedures are trade secrets, but we provide full exit reports to the hiring parties including aforementioned blood screening work, high resolution atomic resonance scans, cognitive map, genetic and epigenetic configurations, and anomalous protein vectors amongst other tests. We're very proud of our work and feel that we have just cause for our pride.
Regarding my compromization to TS-F: I am perhaps the least at-risk individual in the Cluster. I am subjected to excruciatingly thorough weekly medical examinations, with more intense batteries monthly. I am under the supervision of psychologists, neurologists, cognitive scientists, and a host of bio-doctors. My brain is thoroughly mapped and supported by a constellation of implants that allow my doctors to see deeply into my cognitive processes. My brain is, quite literally, held in copyright by Lai Dai Corporation. A more rigorously tested and monitored infomorphic brain simply doesn't exist. TS-F would be less conspicuous walking through Jita 4-4 CNAP naked and carrying ornamental furniture than they would be in trying to infiltrate my brain, memetically or otherwise.
Regarding PYRE's actions in exchanging prisoners with TS-F: I'm overjoyed that they are able to rescue State citizens, but am troubled at the price they pay. It is a most pragmatic action, however, and provides an additional communication vector to Nation. This assists in everything from peace efforts to threat prediction. My concluding remarks on this is that it is not my affair, and thus my opinions are only opinions, and should not be afforded weight in any decision-making. I will happily co-operate in analytic decision-making on the topic if asked, however.
There! I think that covers everything. Are there other accusations which I ought address? |

I fly Caldari hulls; I'm sure that's no surprise. My heart goes out to the Naga; it really does make me feel alive to be in that ship. That sort of opinion is also based on a fallacy, that what is human in someone requires both the good and bad. We believe that what is bad in humanity can be excised and what is good exalted.
The difficulty we have with the rest of the cluster comes in when what values we consider to be positives differ with those of others. There are traits that we value very highly and assign high station to. There are traits that we consider to be poor, that we would remove, that others consider to be driving factors. It's really the same song and dance as any other set of differing social groups, and it ought to have remained as such except that the Big4 decided that it would be a wise idea to try to kill us all and wipe us off the map. What we are doing now is, in my opinion, a rather muted retaliation and repositioning considering what consequences face us if we fail. |

As you did not understand what I was trying to say for 'most of my post', I will forgive you for missing the entire point of it and hyperfocusing on the very superficial obvious statements you made here. They are correct. They were not, however, the point I was making.
There are people who most certainly do understand what I was saying, however, and most, if not all of them, have been reading this dialogue, if not actively engaging in it.
As I have respect for you you based on things you have said over time, do not take this as an insult. It is possible that you are simply not informed enough on the entirety of what has been transpiring to make any sound judgement calls on the tip of this iceberg which has managed to breach the surface here on the Summit. This is not simply about people 'being upset'. That is only what you are able to see from what has been said here in public.

It may feel like a teasing statement to make, but -- I simply can't. It would only add fuel to an ugly fire that has no basis in reality in New Eden - if that makes sense.
In truth this nonsense -- which is what it is -- is best left as a dropped topic. My lack of posting in the IGS and the fact that I have finally made a statement more than a sentence long, for those who know me, speaks volumes as to the extent this issue has escalated in local and private comms. "I was dreaming once, and I dreampt of a world where I was nothing more than a biological fitting; a slave to the machine and crew, instead of the other way around. Pieter Tuulinen wrote:For crews like yours, we have an arrangement with TSF whereby we can swap them for Caldari POWs before they go into Nation's vats for processing. Sleep well.
Throw a stranger to the wolves to rescue a cousin, eh?
I think I understand why: If you value the lives and freedom of Caldari above those of anybody else (especially pirates), then the trade would seem reasonable (albeit callous).
Except... Nation are not trustworthy. I have known pretty much everybody in TS-F to tell direct lies about both Nation and their own corporation with a straight face and in the teeth of overwhelming facts. Kuvakei himself has zero regard for treaties and civilized agreements: He does only whatever is in his best interests, according to his own evaluation, without a second thought for integrity.
This is a model I have no doubt that Shaktipat Revelators duly imitate - after all, the Master sets the example, no? They may not have his power and ability to act with impunity and will thus be more cautious to preserve their appearance of reasonable integrity, but remember that everything they do, they do to advance the objectives of Nation, which let us not forget is an enemy of the very State you have sworn to defend.
So... what does Nation gain from swapping prisoners they already have, for other prisoners? It's just time and effort spent shipping them about and delivering them to a rendezvous for trade, with all the associated cost and difficulty of prisoner transfer and security. Why not just chuck who they have in the vats and let you deal with the pirate crews yourself?
What, in other words, do they get out of it?
What guarantee do you have that the citizens you rescue haven't been through the vats already? We have recordings of live, on-air footage from a reporter who got an interview with Kuvakei himself only to be assimilated in minutes by a swam of airborne nanites, the same technology being used in the YC112 "Upliftings" to march terrified human puppets into the holds of waiting transports.
What guarantee can you honestly make with the rigour required of a trained security specialist, that you have not delivered men and women back to their relieved families carrying the seed of a Sansha sleeper cell? There will be enough of them riddling our society as it is. Arrangements such as this are cracks in our armour, loopholes in our security.
And on what basis are you convicting the crews you hand over to the vats of piracy? You know full well that most capsuleer crew sign on for a tour and spend months hard at work with their head down, earning a fortune to retire on and getting the hell out as soon as they can. Most don't even know the name of their pilot, what system they're in, what they're doing, what corp they fly for. Many more are slaves. Merely being aboard a pirate's ship is not indicative of being guilty of piracy, or even of being aware that piracy was going on.
Finally: selling people into slavery is a crime against State and Region law which was established in the very first act of the CEP during the foundation of the State..
So to recap:
- Without due process you are convicting people of piracy (itself also illegal)
- You are committing a crime by sentencing them into slavery, and then...
- As your payment you are claiming Caldari POWs who may or may not have been compromised by mind-control technology
- which belongs to a technologically superior enemy of the State, and which you can't guarantee your ability to screen.
- This enemy having avowed that contracts are honoured only for as long as they remain in their best interest.
- Therefore, they only do this because they think Nation benefits more than by just assimilating the existing prisoners.
Doesn't anything about that strike you as suspicious? Your arrangement seems neither pragmatic nor honourable, it is in violation of CEP law and it is an avenue which exposes the State to further infiltration.
I would encourage the immediate termination of this policy. An in-character blog and a video: http://verinsjournal.blogspot.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tu1mbsgo738

It's not just strangers that are being thrown to the wolves. One-hundred and fifty-two 'cousins' were also traded for and shipped to TS-F in October YC115.

Whoa, hold on there, Verin.
What treaty did Nation ever break? Historicallly, for both Nation and TS-F, we have abided by the terms of every agreement we have ever had.
It's been other people who decide that they want to break the agreements with us. In YC 37 it was the Amarr and the Caldari who had working agreements with us and then decided that it was okay to be pushed around by the Gallente into committing genocide. For TS-F, we have stuck by every agreement we have ever made until such time that a group (like yours) decided it was okay to break off the agreement.
You may disagree with what we do. You may disagree with how we do things. However, I will not sit here and listen to you tell two-faced lies about us.
I know your hatred of us is pretty much all consuming, but you're outright slandering yourself by letting it cloud your perception of reality this way.

Reading through this thread causes me a great deal of sadness, but also, some perspective. While I feel I may have jumped to a hasty conclusion about your actions, Pieter, I can at least understand them. But... don't mistake that understanding for sympathy, please. It's just that... Well, I just don't believe anyone should be able to decide if one person's life is worth more than another. I bear you no I'll will or harsh judgement toward you as an individual man, but I have to say I am very horrified by Pyre's policy on this. I admit, I have no personal dealings with Nation outside of the experience of having them invade a nearby system last year and costing me a frigate, and a few friends which I could do nothing to save...
I do, however, have experience in being subjected to the despair of being held against my will. Even though it was not Nation that put me through that.... nightmare (I believe with nation, the experience would have been even more terrifying), I can say without a doubt that giving anyone over to an entity that strips them of their will to be an individual and deprives them of their hopes, dreams, affections, and animosities is nothing short of monstrous. Condemning anyone to that, even your enemies... I'm sorry, I guess I just don't have the words to explain how that makes me feel.
But I'm not attacking you, Pieter. I do understand wanting to save your brethren from that fate, it's just that the price... It's too high. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. |

Tiberious, I respect your integrity as the moderator of one of my favourite comms channels, but I don't trust your honesty in any other arena.
Why? Because you have in the past voiced opinions which are utterly at odds with the fact of reality and events so far as they could be independently verified. I don't just mean forgivable misunderstandings here, I mean that you have, with a perfectly straight face and every indication of sincerity, stood there and expressed directly and absurdly false sentiments.
I can see only two possible interpretations: Either you are an expert liar, or you are hopelessly deluded.
I'd take it as a compliment that my opinion of your competence is such that I consider the former to be more likely.
Kuvakei's founding act when he created Nation was a breach of contract. True Slaves were a horrific violation of the trust of millions who emigrated to Sansha's Nation. Slave raids into empire space were - and are - a violation of the very terms of interstellar law and treaty that Kuvakei demands be respected in regard to the borders of his own promised land. In other words, he plays by the rules when it suits him, and ignores them freely if doing so would advance his agenda.
Throw in the fact that you are an avowed devotee of his and have - I repeat - lied to my face about the nature of those slave raids, and I can hardly be blamed for not trusting your word any further than I could propel a titan by kicking it.
Nor, then, can I be blamed for counselling somebody I like when I see that they have entered a potentially dangerous and foolish relationship with you. There are people in Pyre Falcon that I care about, and I'm eager to see the corp thrive and serve the State well, even if we don't always see eye-to-eye.
If I've "missed the point" then a clarification may be in order, and it had better be a bloody good one. An in-character blog and a video: http://verinsjournal.blogspot.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tu1mbsgo738

Verin, you should be certain that legal considerations have been made prior to this, the extent of which will not be shared for strategical reasons. The boundary conditions are significant, but as a rule of thumb it means that no one who wouldn't face a shooting squad when tried in the State would be eligible. Additionally, there are multiple legal spheres which are to be considerated, some of them relevant, others not.
Personally, I'd be much more concerned about the number of people who died in the various wreckages that have been produced for one case or the other, as they're dwarfing the number causing so much outrage by multiple dimensions, most likely without having a considerably better return on actual caldari who get a second chance. I'll gladly see some laws bent thoroughly for that, although I agree that the position condemning the events is much easier to handle - they've already been lost. Moral relativism works both ways, apparently. Ruthlessness is the kindness of the wise. |

Sansha's Nation or TSF has always stuck by any treaties or agreements that has been accepted by us. It has always been on the parties on the other side who break or cancel agreed arrangements. Like, as Tiberious mentioned, the Amarr and Caldari pushing us away when pressure was applied to them.

There will be enough of them riddling our society as it is. Arrangements such as this are cracks in our armour, loopholes in our security.
What would we gain from giving Pyre converted crew? When, not if as these things always come out, it is revealed we had done so. It would eliminate the possibility of future deals as well as the existing one with Pyre Falcon. Thus is is logical for us to give Pyre, and any who wish to come to us regarding crew's who have been collected by us, 'clean' Caldari citizens.
Stitcher wrote:And on what basis are you convicting the crews you hand over to the vats of piracy? Do you keep all crew members isolated from each other? Do you not allow them to go outside the ship when docked? If not then the crew undoubtedly have every idea of what they have gotten into. Smaller vessels are such that the Crew are just as vital to running a fully kitted out ship as the Capsuleer and if they don't know why the ship is going into combat, then that is their fault. Larger ships, the crew most likely talk and gossip amongst themselves and similar information would be easily available. To paint crew as ignorant in the goings of the ship they are aboard is the height of the capsuleer superiority complex.
Stitcher wrote:This enemy having avowed that contracts are honoured only for as long as they remain in their best interest.
Yes, we continue our relation with Pyre because it is in the best interested. As they keep it because it is in their best interest (the interest of retrieving Caldari Citizens). Any entity that keeps contracts that aren't in the best interest is either being forced to be a superior entity or is plain stupid. If this relationship stops being in our interest we would contact Pyre and discuss renegotiation of the terms, if that fails we would then cancel the agreement.
We, unlike your corporation, would not publicly announce the break down the agreement without trying to discuss it. Oh you said it was finished to us before it was announced, but no talks were had.
And finally,
Stitcher wrote:Slave raids into empire space were - and are - a violation of the very terms of interstellar law and treaty that Kuvakei demands be respected in regard to the borders of his own promised land.
The Raids happened after the Amarr went back on their deal with Sansha's Nation and after the Big Four tried to curb stomp us. It is retaliation because we are at war with the Empires. No peace accord has been signed during or since the Fall, Kuvakei hasn't signed or agreed to any interstellar law or treaty because the Empires didn't give him the chance.

Do you now regard them as criminals or terrorists yourselves, do you consider them to be kill on sight, due to the fact that they handover people they class, to be pirates to the TS-F.
Standing for my money answers precisely one question: "Do we shoot them?"
To which the answers are:
Red: yes Orange: yes Neutral: yes Light blue: no. Strong blue: no.
It's a system that's much too linear for more nuanced attitudes like "I respect you and recognise that we have common goals and allegiance but disagree with some of your political attitudes and am uneasy about some of your diplomatic arrangements."
Being neutral to ALXVP, Pyre Falcon were already shoot-on-sight if they entered Origin. Given that I doubt they ever will - after all, they have no reason to - that's not actually likely to result in either of us appearing on one another's killboards. It'd be a bit contrary of us to overturn our policy of neutrality when we ourselves only just reset our blue standings towards TS-F.

Ok Stitcher, your corp have them neutral, which also means KOS.
Regarding Sansha nation are classified as criminals throughout the Empires. Pyre Falcon are handing over people to Sansha nation. You do not believe that Pyre Falcon should also be classified as criminals or terrorists. I think that is your stance Stitcher. You disagree with their association with TS-F , but their handing over of people to the TS-F for the Sansha nation programming, does not classify their corporation to be considered illegal, criminal or terrorist organisation, as far as you are concerned. |

Oh, it does. In fact I already reminded them that it does. I distinctly recall mentioning the twin crimes against the laws of the State of selling people into slavery and of sentence without due process.
You could throw in all sorts. Aiding and abetting an enemy of the State, neglectful compromise of national security, unlawful business with a criminal faction... I bet a talented prosecutor could stretch the list out to be as long as my leg.
All of which is rendered slightly polemical by the capsuleer status of the involved parties. In practice, Empyreans are bound only by the laws they accept and submit to, and given that the empires know this it's rare for charges to be pressed. Although as I recall the last time that happened it turned out very interestingly.
The thing is, I believe in mistakes and in redemption. Honest failure to think things through happens to the best of us. Couple that with the frequent futility of legal process against an Empyrean, and... well.
There are only two ways this can go, really - I either say my bit, clarify and justify it where necessary, and hope that they agree and reconsider, or else I can devote my own resources and time to destroying their ships and assets in an attempt to bankrupt them by way of unofficial justice: an objective I highly doubt I could succeed at, even if I were inclined to make the attempt. If you're going to prove me wrong on THAT one, then you need to do a lot better than trying to obfuscate it by challenging me on the unimportant outlying details. If I've been unfair with regards to your history of honouring (or not) your deals, then I apologise... But I've not been unfair in calling you liars.

We don't start these things. We don't make public announcements about our goings on or campaigns. We do let actions speak for us, but when others feel the need to call us out or spread misinformation then we'll correct them. We try and be rational and generally give well thought out replies in such times but it is often met with frothing at the mouth by the usual parties.
We do this because Tiberious and a small number of others have a vain hope that one day we might get some meaning discourse from it. I don't hold on this hope, however, but it is something to pass the time.

Math.
We aren't picky about the source of our biomass, whereas Pyre Falcon want only Caldari Persons.
So, even if they were giving us four prisoners for every three prisoners we transfer to them, the Foundations benefits. Even if they provided us with 3 prisoners and 1 tonne of algae for every three prisoners, the Foundations benefits.
It is nothing more sinister than that. Both sides get something that they want, both sides benefit, and therefore both sides have a very good reason to keep the deal going on an honest and fair basis. |

Stitcher you have all but in name declared war upon Pyre Falcon. They are patriots like you yourself claim to be. They have fought for our nation , highest honor one can give to your country. They are saving the lives of Caldari prisoner's of war, returning them back to us , who share the same honor of fighting for our State. Personally i see no crime here.
Mega coporations are not averse to working with criminals or the underworld, if there are profits or benefits for them to do so. The deal here Pyre Falcon make is not for profits or benefits to themselves, but to save the lives of our people.
I think you are wrong Stitcher. The only credit i can give you , is that you have have stuck to your principles. Unlike some other liberals, who were also accusing Pyre Falcon of criminal/aiding and abetting terrorists, but have remained quite rather than outright denounce them now as a criminal/terrorist organisation. You stated earlier you believed their actions were criminal/aiding and abetting terrorist organisation. When asked if you believe Pyre Falcon to be a criminal/terrorist organisation due to this agreement with TS-F you have said yes. Even though i believe you like, maybe respect some people in Pyre Falcon, although maybe that will change if they do not reconsider this deal with TS-F. |

Horn: Being a patriot doesn't absolve one of breaking the law. Neither does being liberal, practical, or anything else. It's a simple yes-or-no: "Was this person or corporation's actions in contravention of some article of State or Corporate law?"
In fact, the great Admiral Tovil-Toba himself was court-marshalled posthumously on the charge of disobeying a direct order. The judge remarked that while it was clear that in fact the great man was legitimately guilty as charged - as in, he HAD disobeyed a direct order - that disobedience was to the great benefit of the Caldari people, and that in this case, the law should be nullified.
Laws don't cease to have been broken simply because they were broken by a hero, a patriot or a soldier. At best, they can be concluded to have been legitimately broken for good reason. Seeing as I have no legal authority to pass judgement over Pyre Falcon, I'll refrain from commenting. I much prefer this conciliatory tone of yours. That you see their agreement with TS-F as a misdemeanor act, rather than a more serious offence. After all, us as patriots and you as liberals, we both consider ourselves loyal to the State. We should not be looking to criminalize one another. I still see no crime in Pyre Falcon actions, regarding the returning of Caldari prisoners of war home to us. |

I personally feel comfortable with ships from the four Empires, as well as outlaw organisations and ORE. The reason is purely practical: from a given ship category, I will choose the one that better suits the role I intend to give it, as well as my own combat style and my aesthetical preferences on that moment.
Otherwise I'd be expending ages for choosing a ship: I tend not to have favourites from a given category (even colours!), at least for long time; instead I think practical and learn to love the final choice, even if it isn't my most favourite at that moment.
A good example is my Dominix-class battleship. Aiming for higher capabilities from my lovely Prophecy-class battlecruiser "LazerHawk", the next step in the drone carrier line would be either the Apocalypse or the Dominix. Even though I prefered the Apocalypse's lines, I chose the Gallente software superiority. Right now, "Omega" is my most precious (and only!) battleship, and its drones have teared through many Blood Raiders hulls.
That said, I always keep a small, warm place in my heart for Minmatar designs, for obvious reasons. |

That would seem to be superfluous. Facts please, or apologizes to him, of course, if you have at least a remaining bits of honor. His words will do, but only if they will be about his participation in a verifiable act of terrorism and crime. |

Didn't Horn-haan fly against the CEP during the Executor's last stand? "You let one of them go, but that's nothing new is it? Every now and then a little victim is allowed to escape; because she smiled, because he's got freckles, because they begged. And that's how you live with yourself. That's how you slaughter millions." Associating with a known terrorist organisation, espousing their doctrine and expressing support for their cause IS a crime, under anti-terrorism laws. An in-character blog and a video: http://verinsjournal.blogspot.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tu1mbsgo738

Mr. Verin, are we talking on different languages? Translators stopped working on your side? Can you provide a fact or his own confession in COMMITTING any terror ACT, or you just loudmouth him, because he belongs to patriotic organization you don't LIKE? |

Goalposts are being moved here. First you asked me to mention any act of terrorism or crime he committed, which I did.
Next you asked me to mention any crime AND act of terrorism, so I explained that the crime was under terrorism laws.
Now you're asking for just the act.
If you are a member or vocal supporter of a terrorist cell, then you are yourself a terrorist. The only distinction governed by performing an actual act of terrorism is whether or not you're a successful terrorist. I strongly recommend you review your reading skills, since in the whole first question I asked you provide with acts of both criminal and terror acts, I have even underlined word "and", while you yelp here like I asked to provide only one of these.
Besides, your "crime" under terrorism laws is still invalid, because he associated himself not with terrorists, but rather with old Raata patriotic partisan organization.
Thus I again ask to provide both facts of crime and terror acts of him, or apologize to him. |
