Anything that requires loading from TQ's database (session changes, inventories, market, etc) should happen much faster, and should also reduce lag a bit.
Though, my question is how much of a change should we expect compared to when we got the Ramsan SSD? ..and when will CCP be getting more of those _____________________________________________________________________ Thar be Pirates

Wow. Between the massive improvement between SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 when running on the *same* hardware and with all the *new* hardware, this should be quite something.
Speaking of which... did you steal my SQL disks? I'm supposed to be installing it tomorrow..... ______________________

Whilst I'm not a fan of MS SQL Server either, however, the important thing is that Eve has been running on this platform since its inception - every RDBMS has their own interesting characteristics, different ways data access is optimized - the important thing is that CCP should now know how to tweak the bejezus out of it, and learnt all the little tricks of getting that extra 50% out of query.
Grease those wheels some more, CCP!

nice to have a new update, but im sure this means eve will be un-playable for like another week while they run about 100 hotfixes in each downtime.
im all for having things updated & made better but we never seem to get a good few months of just playing. for me personally eve has been running with no problems & i very rarely lag.
Come on CCP, at least give us a few months of playing before you do yet another update.
if it aint broke, dont fix it!

You'r not the only EVE player, and there's lotsa players *****ing and moaning about lag and such **** so this upgrade will certainly be welcome. Although I dont notice any lag either upgrades FTW

Good luck with what u going to do , hopefully it would improve player's gaming experince . I have great lag since Friday DT ( yesterday ) , ship mods do not respond when activited , takes long time to dock/undock and same with loading new screen after jumping !! Didn't have these problems before DT tho . I thought myabe something is wrong with my connection so logged out and played Guild Wras for 40 minutes and was fine , no lags and nothing wrong . Back to EvE , first 5 mins were fine then started to lag again !! So for the love of GOD CCP fix things and get the game ruuning better .

To Quote it:
Additionally, the xSeries allows us to chain together more of these beasts to have up to 32 processors (equivalent to 64 processors if Dual-Core). This allows us to easily throw more hardware at the problem. Our inner-geeks are, suffice to say, quite happy :)
end Quote:
How about you sort out the software and not just throw more hardware at problems, Hardware does not sort out bugs, Glitches, Mad drones, or any of the current bugs in the client.

Umm, Hardware Team != Software QA Team. Each are working on making our gaming experience as strong as possible. Hopefully more of the **** bugs will be squashed very soon in updates leading up to or in Kali. Regardless, this hardware upgrade will be very welcome. * * * * *

Originally by: Oveur The hardware will start out with pairs of Dual-Core Intel XEON 3.0 GHz CPU's with 64 GB of RAM, and will eventually be scaled up even further.
I'm curious how exactly you intend to "scale up even further" when you've already maxed out / fully loaded the new hardware?
+ Up to 64GB PC2-3200 DDR II memory per chassis + ...up to 3.00GHz (dual-core)
What is left to upgrade, short of getting more racks? Uberware indeed!
We can hook the machines up with external backbones and chain the machines together into one machine. So to the OS it looks like one machine. I tested this in-house here at CCP before we shipped the machines to London and it works great.
Haha, OMG How do you do that? I mean I have 3 PC's here, how can I link them together to have one Uber PC?
Oww Great stuff on the DB server upgrades.
Your hardware has to specifically support it. The IBM x460 has this as one if it's main selling points, that it can chain together the "bricks". It certainly sold us

So after this update, will there be ANYTHING thats 32 bit over at CCP headquarters anymore?
I'm curious cause it seems like this isn't the first 64 bit upgrade thats happened :-).

It is then safe to assume that the forum will not be reachable during the upgrade? Thus I can expect an extra kick on the usage of EVE-Search...

DB performance is never cut and clear to which processor is better *usually*. It is all about how which processor can run your queries faster. Both Intel and AMD have excellent sub systems for getting the data to and from the CPU and I suspect Intel's procs worked better for CCPs data queries. Not to mention they are probably pin compatible with the next major CPU upgrades so if CCP needs to scale cpu power they can do it at the chip level instead of at the brick level.

WTF is this Uberware *******s?
Those CPU's have the Intel logo on them, therefore they are cripplechips compared to the equivalent AMD CPU and are furnaces compared to the much lower thermal output of the Intel product.

Same as in every other company on this planet....real improvements start, when the bosses are gone
WCS gimps your fighting abilty. Make your choice BEFORE you undock. Do not complain about a lost ship ever, if you fit for running and go fighting with it |
