Edited by: L33t Sphere on 05/05/2006 20:23:06 I was recently in Ravarin, and I was pirating...so I shot someone, eventually letting him go. His corpmate challenged me to a 1 verse 1. This corp mate is Max Ryko(for those who want to kill him). He comes in a Celestis, keeps me jammed, but my Valks are taking him down. He warps out, but not before his friend in a Battlecruiser warps in. I warp out because I figure if they warped in a BC, then they wouldn't mind warping in more.
Needless to say this guy is prime on my hitlist now, but what gives with all this idiocy?
EDIT:This isn't the first time. Every 1v1 I've had in the past month has ended this way. |

Same thing happened to me last night, I hit a undefended 6 barge mining group and killed a Covetor before they warped out :). Was setup for NPCing and had no jammers on, but was able to gank it before it got to warp.
8 month old player challenges me when I'm waiting for the timer to cool, and the fool I am, I accept. Bam. -1 Cyclone to a host of cruisers and inties I could probably have taken had the fool not been jamming me.
My own fault, but I'm not terribly worried about the loss of the ship. Had some fun when the miners started scattering like ducks, though. If I had come in in a Tempest with two or three scrams I would have a load of fun ransoming them.

Violating a 1v1 is one of the most stupid and dishonorable things you can do in EVE, its like blowing someone up after they pay the ransom. Bad form. I would kick anyone who did it from a corp I was leading.

Kind of curious, assuming that most of you are pirates you would consider most other scams or dishonorable actions just part of the game and if someone came into crime and punishment complaining about getting scammed on an escrow deal... jumped by a pirate kill squad while mining or any other number of things that can go wrong at best they get a sucks for you be more careful next time to any number of variations of its part of the game or its your fault.
So now... why would you expect 1v1 offers to have any less chance of being a scam than anything else?
Not that I would do it... not that I would even have the guns to do it if I wanted to but it is a bit of hypocrisy to whine about getting scammed on a 1v1 when you don't see a problem with pirating or any other dishonorable aspects of the game where the enjoyment of someone else is coming at the cost of your own.
The only difference is this time you are the person losing something you wanted.

Well, I arranged a fight with one guy who was stalking me after I popped his rifter. He came to my home system and sat by my station. Well, I convoed him and asked him if he was looking for a rematch. He said he did, warped to a planet, and waited. He had a veteran corpmate in system, so I called in a corpmate as well. He was in a spanking new rifter, I was in an omen. I warp to the planet, he's there, i engage with my omen, my corpmate comes in with a kestrel and starts pounding on him. Now, even though this is totally reasonable for many reasons; he never asked for 1v1, he had a corpmate in system, the omen would've bbq'd the rifter anyway, however, his corpmate wen't awol and his rifter was popped in solitude. I still feel kinda sleazy about it.

You're a murderer, not even a proper pirate, unless you ransom people for money or loot. In any case, you're a dishonorable criminal, and you expect people to be straight up with you when offering to fight you? The police aren't going to offer you a one on one and mean it, they'll have 20 guys around the corner waiting to jump you.
While it is dishonorable of someone to say they want to duel you and then violate the rules of a duel, you reap what you sow mate. :) ----- CEO, Astrum Contract Services Group "Through the Endless Night of Space" |

you travel find a lone target, attack out of the blue 5 of your targets friend appear and kill you, Crap a trap. Oh well smart trap perhaps.
You challenge someone to a duel, they accept and trap you again.
There is no honor in lying cheating, stealing or murder. The borders for what people find acceptable is moved constantly as they feel someone else violated the unwritten rules against them the last time.
In eve there is two types of people, its your friends the ones you can trust and enjoy to play with. And there is strangers. Now this might come as shock to you but every stranger in eve is a lying cheating murdering bastard, if they dont use the current toon to do it with be sure they use an alt or a different account for it.
there is no honor in eve, there is isk and when all comes down to it thats what matters ISK. cause if you have a lot of it then you have a lot of friends people you can depend on and trust. And the others? Well every single stranger in eve is maybe not murdering or cheating, but every stranger in Eve would take your isk without blinking if given the chance.
one VS one? Sure! I promisse i wont bring many friends, just enough to ensure my victory. Cause thats what eve is about numbers the ones with the highest number wins, it might be isk or it might be skill points but its still numbers.

Next time you wanna do a 1v1, make a safespot and hit it. Then invite your target to a gang and have him warp to you, fight.
If for some reason he happens to leave you gang (probbly to join his friends) head to a safespot and tell him to stay in your gang next time

yawn....
Pirates disobey rules, unspoken rules and they cheat its how they win. Hence the difference between a PvP'r and a pirate nevermind the sec status.
And all this whining is getting to me. People cheating, smacking and in general just being dykes make everything just that little more interesting. It introduces that 'what if?' factor.
So please keep up the mourning just dont expect any sympathy. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok...so if all pirates cheat, then all anti-pirates are really pirates in disguise, all miners are totally worthless in PVP, all characters less than a week old are spies and scammers, and all T2 BPO owners are greedy jerks.

Edited by: Rehen on 08/05/2006 01:37:19 you realy cant trust a 1v1 on tq too be a stright 1v1 anymore, used too be easy too get a fair fight espeshaly with the old 0.0 empires.
Alot of pvp in eve now is ganking, even after the wepon mod stacking nerf very little has changed. Often now when im worred about the odds as they are against and thinking i probaly shouldent doo this, i get the enamy runing from me.
I gess if you want some good 1v1's goo too the test server when its up
In L33t Sphere's case the enamy just sounds noobish, and yes i gess after being attacked by you they wanted some revenge, you mite have some romance about honer but that guy whos first BC you ransomed or whatever is only intrested in taking you out as a threat and geting some revenge too help him sleep better at night in missusumption of knowing they can get back too there missions/mining in peace.

See? I can make sweeping generalizations too.
I would just like to point out, that T2 BPO owners are all greedy jerks. Maybe, just maybe with the exception of whoever holds the Small Armor Repairer T2 BPO... but, such skant exceptions do not effect the overwhelming probability, that certainly exists, that a T2 BPO is a greedy jerk. Not even just philosophically, mathematically, numerically, economically even. Just look at the resources required to create a T2 Assault Frigate, then look at how much they cost; even considering time to create, and a generalized acceptance of 'profit', such profit margins are clearly exceeding relative expectation and well extends into greed and abuse of the advantage of a virtual monopoly.
In the Middle East, a 12oz Coca Cola on average costs about 24 US cents. Why? Especially since in America the same can of coke costs around 1 USD? Becuase in reality, the container that the beverage comes from far exceeds the costs of the contents, if every McDonalds sold Super Sized drinks for 5 cents, Coca Cola would still be making nearly 100% profit margins. So, why are soft-drinks on average go for around 50 cents in "western" nations? Becuase there's only a handful of companies where it all comes from... price fixing in a sense. Which is what we have in EVE becuase the T2 BPOs are handed out to only a couple of people, often, the SAME people. If you want the best analogy to EVE T2 economics to real life economics De Beers. A 2kt tear drop diamond is such a common thing, physically on this planet, that they could be abundantly found in gumball machines. This is hard to believe by many people, who for instance, never realized that De Beers basically controls the flow of all precious gems and by doing so govern the availability of diamonds in particular so the prices stay sky high.
If you want an idea of how powerful De Beers is, the semi-conductor industry (computers et al) is held at bay of technologies that can create a "perfect" diamond, De Beers even release diamond testing kits to specifically look for flaws due to some techniques exceeding Natures perfection. A Diamond has qualities the semi-conductor industry lusts for, particular it's ability to maintain structural integrity under extreme heat (the core of your CPU). They WANT to replace much of the logical components in chips on diamond instead of silicon... but, De Beers exists, and people who have researched technology that could jeapordize their interests have "disappeared".
They really should place T2 BPOs on the general market for all to purchase.

Ehh CherniyVolk...
that was a very well constructed lesson in economics, supply and demand, monopoly, etc.
but it didn't have a lot to do with what L33t Sphere said.
So...
IMHO, there is definitely a difference between violating a 1v1 and pirating. Pirating is not the action of breaking any promises. Sure it's mean, but that comes with the territory. Pirates can still be cool
Saying you'll fight one on one and then blatantly breaking that promise is dishonorable. Killing people for money isn't.

Originally by: Tal Dumat Kind of curious, assuming that most of you are pirates you would consider most other scams or dishonorable actions just part of the game and if someone came into crime and punishment complaining about getting scammed on an escrow deal... jumped by a pirate kill squad while mining or any other number of things that can go wrong at best they get a sucks for you be more careful next time to any number of variations of its part of the game or its your fault.
So now... why would you expect 1v1 offers to have any less chance of being a scam than anything else?
Haven't you figured it out yet? Anything a pirate does is game mechanics. Anything done to a pirate is cheating, dishonorable, hacking or lame. It's the mindset of the "pirates".

I resent that, and I'm sure so do most if not all pirates. Oh well, it just goes to show what uneducated people think about things they know nothing about. Stop talking until you've got some logic behind your mouth.
It is people with your type of mindset that are racist.
Edit: Now let's get back on topic ffs.

Guide to 1v1
If you get challenged to do have a 1v1 fight and you accept then you're the one who will organise it. Dont warp to a planet or moon, but make a "fightspot" somewhere in space. In warp press "add bookmark" and call it FightSpot. Invite you opponment for a gang and make sure you're the only 2 in gang. Then let him warp to you and the fun can start, no one can cheat since its a brand new safespot.
This is how I did it last time :) --------- WCS for sell, 2 for the price of 1! Contact me ingame |

What SHOULD happen is like in dynasty warriors, you shout out your challenge (altho how anyone can hear in space i'll never know), and then you enter a little patch of ground, and fight it out with the fellow.
If you decline the duel, then all your gang members and corp get a morale drop!
Seriously though, 1 vs 1's while they are fun, rarely occur. -----------------------------------------------

Remember this priv convo?: "[19:08:08] Verone > our corp does not do 1vs1's. [19:08:10] Verone > bye. [19:08:13] Toppar Wear > lol"
Funny funny

Oh, sorry. I guess I should have said cheating, dishonorable, hacking, lame or racist. ROFL. Thanks for demonstrating what I said.

I don't know why I'm giving you my time to explain this to you, but maybe, just maybe, you'll be less of a lamer if you read this...so I'll break it down for you.
"Anything a pirate does is game mechanics. Anything done to a pirate is *blah blah*. It's the mindset of the 'pirates'."
You just made a sweeping generalization that all pirates are people who think that they are always right, disregarding all logic. This kind of sweeping generalization comes from your lack of understanding and your refusal to try knowing what you're talking about.
"it is people with your type of mindset that are racist"
Clearly you have no ability to recognize a non-literal sentence. I'm not explicitly stating "You are racist". I'm saying that people who think like you (or refuse to think, in some cases) are the same kind of people who make blatantly false assumptions about anything, whether it's race, religion, etc.
Pirates have a goal to make money. They go about this goal by killing other players, or ransoming them. That is, indisputably, part of the game. If someone kills a pirate, the pirate (if they're not a nub) will probably giggle and say "damn I got killed". Thus, your first post is completely incorrect; they don't start crying "haxor" like you claim they do.
Meanwhile, anyone (pirate or not) has the right to complain if the "1v1" they were participating in became a gangup. That's what this is about, so stop bringing your skewed and irrelevant opinion of pirates into it.
That's enough, I'm not arguing with a moron any longer. If you have issues with pirates, quit Eve and do us all a favor.

Oh, I see. You're saying I'm wrong and you're right, and my generalization that people like you have to always be right is wrong because... you're right?

Originally by: L33t Sphere Edited by: L33t Sphere on 05/05/2006 20:23:06 I was recently in Ravarin, and I was pirating...so I shot someone, eventually letting him go.
Yo, First off dont whine about fair or not playing by the rules when you come and pirate miners who are 2 weeks old and your from 2003. Second Im an alt I am not given skill time, im just a tool. Third I have no ego I just get the job done m8 If brining in a freind is what it takes let it be that. 8vs1 priating in gankcamp isnt really fair in my book. PLS NEVER CALL ME OUT OVER THE FORUMS AGAIN. You might be banded for it. AS FOR YOUR HIT LIST WHO CARES your a pirate killing noobs, Ur so strong [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][]
