I'm a new player to the game, and had a question about this system. Playing around with the map as I've learnt to do recently, I noticed that this system always has an extremely high number of ships and pods killed every day. Is this some major chokepoint into some 0.0 space that is highly contested? or is it just a favorite stomping grounds of some rather ill-tempered pirates? I haven't made a trip over there to take a look myself, mostly because I don't imagine I'll live long enough to learn anything, so I thought I'd ask here.
Can anyone shed some light?

Its a well defended choking-point into 0.0... and you are probably right not to go there. --- The Eve Wiki Project |

You can check it out if you get into a fast ship like the Executioner and equip it with some nanofibers and a MWD. Most of the people who get snapped up are those in larger ships that can't warp out in time. Don't know if EC-P8R is camped regularly with bubbles or not. ___________________

I believe I said the same thing a few weeks ago about this same system. If I'm correct it's in BoB space.

Heh, no ec-p is not BoB space.
It is however a major chokepoint and best avoided if you're not yet familiar with hw to get through chokepoints with the minimal risk.

EC-P8R, HED-GP, and PF-346 are often known as the most dangerous systems in EVE

Actully neither of these systems made the top 10 in the last E:ON issue (most number of player ship kills in the last 3 months), but all 3 where in top 10 the issue before. Guess there where a lot of empire wars the last months. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was pretty quiet back then too if I recall with everybody napping each other and the only big war was Red Alliance pushing Five out of/Five leaving the Southeast if I recall correctly. ___________________

Edited by: Sevyc on 08/05/2006 14:16:15 So are all the ship kills people that aren't in whichever alliance is controlling that region of 0.0 keeping out people that they don't want in there, or is it some kind of war?
Who controls that region of space anyway?
I hate that I missed the first couple of years of this game, as it seems to have developed some extremely interesting political situations/conflicts (in terms of alliances and control of the lawless regions). More so than any other MMO game I've played.

The political spiel is indeed quite intricate in Eve yes.
However, ec-p is not really guarded as much by alliances as it is farmed by pirates, or both.
As far as I know noone claims or polices Pure Blind in name of an alliance.

No, not BoB.
BoB live, claim and police three regions in the south of the map, about 60 jumps minimum away from Ec-P8r, and as such are not usually found in that system at all.

a few months ago ec-p was regularly camped by pirates as well as IRON & G which liked to have a clear travel route to empire ... so far so good - the danger in the system depended mostly on time of the day and if you were blue to IRON/G ...
then the EC-P blob by ASCN/BoB and assorted alliances happened (one of the biggest lockdowns in the history of EvE) ... the former TRUST outpost was taken over by BoB as well all infrastructure was destroyed ...
after this incident BoB handed the outpost over to ISS which handed it back to TRUST which sold it back to ISS ( ) ...
well atm it's ISS terretory ... should be quite safe for all-non pirates and non-noobcorp members ... though - afaik there are "some problems" with the security in this system - seems there are daily gatecamps by pirates ...
the really sad part of this story is ISS part .. they paid money to get no customers ... ___________________

Ah, excellent map! Thanks for the linkage.
So, are any of the corps in these large alliances accepting new members, or is it all pretty much old veterans that have been at it for a couple of years?

It is one of the most dangerous systems in eve, but it is also one of the most profitable systems for new players.
I used to pirate there all the time, and there were always a bunch of random noobs mining in belts, in ospreys, thoraxes, even frigates. I kept blowing them up, but they would always come back. Then I realized that even if they get blown up every couple of hours they make more money mining crokite than any other noob could mining in empire.

Most large 0.0 alliance corps have recruitment locks during war time, and minimum skillpoint counts at other times.
I live a few jumps from EC-P8R, drop me a convo when I next come on if you want and I'll put you in touch with someone.
There's no better kind of new player than one with his/her head screwed on and an interest in 0.0.

Actually, No.
The IRON, G, and RAZOR alliances retook the station, handed it back to TRUST, who subsequently handed it back to ISS control. Don't mind me... I'm just a pigment of your imagination. |

... this part of the story is quite new to me ...
so the ownership was something like this?? BoB -> ISS -> G/IRON/RZR -> TRUST -> ISS .. ??
wouldn't be surprised if so ... it was a mess on the different forums ... .. and it seems that this events happened very close to each other .. ___________________

This was a long time ago, but I don't see why it still couldn't happen. The system was camped 24/7 when I was there and they still mined it.
