Not sure they're rendering properly on my Macbook Pro. 13" with the Intel 3000 graphics chip. Game looks great, but the trails are just wispy whitish lines, they don't bloom or glow like they do in the screens/vids I've been seeing elsewhere. |

Bumping because the current engine trails are bad. I will be disabling them on the release of the patch if they are released in their current state. |

They do look wierd-- more like the engine trails from the highly-stylized alliance tournament intro graphics than something that belongs next to all these new, cinematic-quality graphics we have in EVE now.
Personally I'd either revise the effect completely. I think they look really plastic-y and goofy-- they're way too opaque and I don't like the way you can see the polygons wrap around the ends of spaceship engines. If they were some cool, translucent/semi-transparent effect that looked awesome (see your own loginscreen maller or pictures of ion thrusters IRL) they'd be great but as is they just kind of look silly and out of place.
e: I updated my client again and took another look today. The trails seem to look weirder on some ships than on others-- sometimes they seem to be too bright and opaque. On other ships full speed leaves them with a nice level of transparency.
Also, the new engine effects on some ships (with the heat-shimmer + glow) looks fantastic-- please, please continue to apply this to all ships.
Also also, I really liked your concept art for the Talos with its hall-thruster-esque ring engines. They could look really good on TQ :3 |

They're very cool but they need to scale down a bit in length. I'm not riding a motorcycle from Tron... |

That is a video of Nexus - Jupiter Incident gameplay.. The engine trails in this game are amazing. I think eve should take notice of these, and try and do something similiar. That's way too fuzzy; looks like cotton coming out of the engines.
I love the new engine trails. They look good and seem to be very light on gpu resources.
Though that doesn't mean they can't stand a few improvements, like better 'physics' with respect to ship movement and attitude, and maybe a little roughness added in like some mach disks or something. Also, the trails need better antialiesing. |

I fear that's impossible. It would equal to more lag.
So... we have the old school thruster trails back. Nice.
Problem is that they don't fit anymore with the more realistic graphics. OP is right. Need a little iteration on that.
Yeah so explain to me, please, how a client side graphics effect cause server side latency. Please do share, I am genuinely intrigued. |

I thought all engines will now have that 'nozzle glow' that we saw on the Incarna login Maller and the winter expansion web page background image. I wonder if that's still coming?

All V3'd ships will have the 'nozzle glow' effect, that is currently all Caldari/Gallente sub-capital ships. CCP-áVertex -á|-á Art Quality Assurance-á | -áTeam Trilambda |

From the YouTube footage of the new trails, I will certainly be turning them off. They're ugly, and completely immersion breaking. The only place that they might look appropriate is in warp, which is the only place that they don't appear.
I hope CCP has put as much effort into reworking the thruster effects on V3'd ships as they have into their Tron beams. There are horrific clipping issues on the thrusters on several TQ models/skins. |

The engine trails are really too smooth and too sharp at the edges. They should have some texture which is fix in space so it really looks like the ship are leaving something behind. |

Just posting to say, that while I don't like the appearance of the (currently unfinished?) trail-tubes; as they are at the moment. I still think they're useful as a visual guide, and so for me, the ideal solution would be to have two separate check-boxes for the effect...
1. View own trails <-- I'd definitely switch that OFF 2. View other trails <-- I'd almost certainly leave that ON |

Weird that we're getting better immersion in some aspects of the game, such as the nebulas, star locations and gate orientation then these weirdly graphically out of place engine 'TAILS' as they were labelled on the previous page are being put in. If they actually looked like exhaust, such as in the Jupiter Incident video posted on the previous page, then I might consider leaving them on, indeed... |

The engine trails, just like the cyno, have the same bland, boring and uninspired simple colour fade. I'm sorry but that's too easy and while I'm sure many of the players in EVE adopt the 5 yearold "oooh free cookie" approach, I would have expected CCP learned from past experience when it comes to introducing unfinished mediocre stuff. Right now it looks like the the DEV responsible either lacked the interest, the time, the tools and/or the talent to make something worthy of this MMO.
PLEASE take the time to do it right, I'd much rather have you delay by a couple of week to cram as much awesome as you possibly can into it before you should present it to us and then go "this is the very best we can do, took us ages but god damn we're proud of it. I'm sure it was worth the wait", rather that "here's some scribblings we pooped out on a Monday morning, now be grateful for the next 2 years cause we won't touch that **** for at least that long". Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude. |

Dude, in the last 2 months, they did more than they did during the previous year. How is that a bad thing that they add new stuff in great quantities ?
Looks like a pretty good job (It doesn't erase the past mistakes, but hey, they can't go back in time, we won't stay perpetually angry at them are we ?). |

Ah the quantity over quality approach; "we get lots of stuff thus it's ok it it's not all that well thought out". No, I do appreciate all the effort they're putting in but that doesn't mean I'll accept them doing half arsed stuff again. I'd like them to take the time to do it right rather than do it quickly, CCP's Achilles' heel always has been introducing half completed stuff/expansions, that's what GOT us into this whole trouble.
Don't mistake me being angry over the :18 months: and still taking it out on them, I'm not. Actually, I'm voicing my concern that I possibly see the same old pattern arise again. I would want them to adhere to the "it's done when it's done, and it's only done when it's truly awesome", rather than "must complete before a set date because we said so and we're afraid people might dislike us for it if we don't make it, even thought it's not actually fully done or up to standards". Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude. |
