Here is my idea, has it been done yet?
As a pirate i sometimes get tired with stalking, i was thinking of the following:
Anchor a small pos with a few scramblers, webbers, a target jammer and a single gun, set the pos to KOS for all neutrals but do not online the gun. Then you sit inside in an interceptor as a fat spider in a web. If someone wanders along, lets say a imperial apoc carring a zealot bpo, you can ask them to hand over the dough or you online your gun. If the client blows up his own ship you can race out and get the pod and the goodybag. You could even get out in a hauler with a gargo scanner and a module scanner saing something like 'hmmm a full rack of officer mods, now that must be worth something' Or you can go elsewhere and even set multiple traps. You can do this remotely but then there is a trick to get out using a 2nd person. If the client held ransom by the pos pays your fee then your their warm feelings of friendship, however shortlived, can be rewarded by a +10 standing and thus release by the pos.
My questions are now the following:
Has this been done yet? If the pos agro's a ship will the ship be released if you reset standing? If the gun is onlined, will it then fire on the current target beinging webbed and scrambled already? can a ship once its abbandoned be tracktor beamed inside (if i skim the surface of the forcefield?
thanks,
your friendly neighbor

Problem is, no one really "wanders along" to a POS. It's not like you randomly explore moons, and if you do you're stupid since you might just as well end up at a large POS that will instapop you. Besides, you can use the scanner to check for a POS before you go there anyways, and then they will see your web, scrambler and the gun aswell.
And no, you can't tractor beam ships. The idea would theoretically work I guess, but there's simply not enough plain idiots out there for you to ever get anything out of your endless camping.

Wrong, i know from experience that people do warp to moons without scanning, and it hapens quite frequently i might add. most people flee from aggressive pirates and warp about wildly without scanning first, or you have the moon survey teams. Ok, its not 10 a day but at least 10 a week, so doing it remotely would be very possible indeed. If it is profitable is a question i agree but the pos will catch people. Perhaps i will park an alt inside that i can online if my main gets convo-ed

Edited by: tiller on 12/05/2006 06:17:14 The trick is to scam people to warp to the POS... it's quite easy and even old players fall for it.

At first I thought you meant actually ransoming the POS with a dread or something. My friend told me about his corp planning to do something like this, and it might be more of a possibility than trying to get people to go to your POS.

If you're willing to invest the effort and ISK needed to set the POS up, keep it alive and watch the screen half a day with probably nothing happen it's your choice. Tiller's suggestion is definately better, though in terms of POS ransoming threatening to blow other peoples POS up unless paid is way cooler I think

Why bother waiting at it? 5 webbers, and 3 warp disruptors and they're going nowhere. Well, unless they want to eject and leave in their pod. -- We are recruiting

I thought this was about ransoming POS's. That has also been done, but I don't know if it's common for pirate corps to wield dreads and do this frequently.

Escaping this trap is easy if he is offline/elsewhere. You log off, get a corpmate to fly an alt in the trap, alt gets agressed and you log back on and fly away.
Pos ransom in a dread has been done before, i read it somewhere. The guy with the pos had friends also with dreads and the pirates were killed, or something along those lines..

nah we allready did it when we were in bobo monkies couple months after pos entered, basically put some bm on escrow with says: niyabainen-oursuleart, all bm are fine exept 2 that warp you instantly to a pos, dropping a bm in a can @ 0.4 gate used to work aswell. but since flagging people dont touch them anymore _________________________________________________

Why thank you! And you did get some nice kills yourself.
I did have an incredible amount of fun doing this and make a lot of money.
It's a nice safe way to pirate without losing security status for beginners if they can raise the cash for a pos. You can get setup and started for less than 150mil, which when you think about how much safer than belt or gate piracy this is say against the average cost of fittings and insurance on top of the cost of a brand new BS or HAC, it's an absolute steal.

Honestly...do people actually fall for joining some random gang and then not cancelling the warp...?

Haha this is exactly what MAKES me enjoy playing this game. This kind of cleverness, trickery, and beguiling treachery are exactly what makes this game unique :)

man... if someone with anything like that would actually go to a moon like that... they almost certainly deserve to lose whatever it is. theres just no excuse for that kinda idiocy.

SD the ship, instawarp out. Make sure you jettison the Zealot BPO and pop the can before doing it (assuming you aren't ECM'd)
I want a lowslot module that blows the ship up and all cargo/mods

this could be interesting, but you are forgetting that the control tower also shoots. So instead of holding him there forever, you'll shooot him. Though i do like the idea of getting some dreads and randsoming POSes.
