So I needed to make a quick trip to Rens from my base today, grabbed my inty and set off for a little shopping trip, on the way back I decide maybe I'll be annoying and go after a few pirates.
First targets seems to be an AFK pirate ferox traveling away from the gate, I go ahead and MWD over to it, and start engaging. 25% through shield this guy apparently comes back and lays down the nos on me, I manage to escape on one burst before I am sucked dry, knowing I have no chance I go ahead traveling back.
I come across a Tempest and Geddon camping the Auga gate, well I decide that I'll just go ahead and annoy them. I make a few wide circles being completely untouched, the tempest warps off when I'm 50km off, the armageddon doesn't.
I proceed to engage, MWD goes off, I slow down, put on my own nosferatu, switch to the conflagrations, and tackle. I proceed attacking the battleship being ready to get out of there the second I'm nossed, but nothing. No drones, no nothing, I decide to take the shield out and convo the "piewat," "Littleterror."
Aeaus: <3?
I was expecting to have a little friendly chat, perhaps a pod or post in the forums, but nothing, the other player closes down the conversation. At this point I have a well known pirate warp in on me from 100km, but he is unable to really do any damage to me from his range, and warps off.
Well, seven minutes after I jumped into the system, this geddon just warps out on me. 25% armor left and hull damage showing and he warps off.
Somethings I can't understand, and this is one of the little paradoxs of piracy that has be itching for my trigger finger.
Big bad pirate...

Unable to defend himself from a little frigate without using stabs. In my view pirates should be experienced PVPers who kick ass, not get their ass kicked by the first thing more skilled then an ibis.
Yes, this is partially a WCS rant, and even more a rant about pirates. Being a pirate myself I would like to think that pirating is a profession rather then sitting on a gate sniping without the least bit of skill. And if you do, keep your mouth where it belongs.

Firstly i had no stabs, so i really don't know what your talking about when you say its a semi stab rant. Point is clap clap well done there was not much i could do, but you got nos'd and i got away. I don't normally snipe, normally I'm in a raven which would have 1 volleyed you. However you would not see me posting in this forum about how i blew you to bits. I could post 60 threads about how I nuked someone from 150km+ today, while they could do jake **** but i don't.
I guess you don't get much of the fighting.. ___________________________________________________ I want your stuff |

Excuse me, you had at least two stabs as I was orbiting at 3KM and had the scrambler on all the time. Nor did I get nossed, last I checked it takes a lot less then seven minutes to nosferatu a malediction.
Must have hit a nerve.

Edited by: Skywalker on 13/05/2006 00:38:50 I could have jumped in close to you and drained your cap in a sec. But i decided to try and kill you from long range with the 1400mm's first, but the tracking is nerfed as we all know. when i was about to jump in close both where gone. Terror told me he was scrambled and couldn't jump out so i guess he didn't use stabs. But he must have drained your cap (there is a thing called heavy neutralizer)
But, really whats the point of your post ? You didn't kill anything, and didn't you die in the end (might be wrong on that one) ?

What happened was you saw sky warp in and then put your MWD back on and moved out of range for your scrambler to work. Check your logs for 'your warp scramble deactivates etc etc'...

Good fight, we had just insta'd to the gate as was going to jump out. You just happened to come along at the same time. We hadn't had a fight all night, and you were flashy red, so we engaged.
We belt hunt too, so you won't see us on a gate unless we're traveling. --

No comment to anything in this thread beyond a comment on gate sniping. Aeaus is right, pirates go and belt hunt, ransom targets, and desire a good fight or cash (or both ). Snipers are gankers, effective but lacking sport.
Otherwise, time to let the thread die imo.

Has anybody ever brought up that the word "pirate" is just a convient term people use?
All us outlaws (-5.0 or lower) and people with questionable security status (-0.1 or lower) can and will be labeled as "pirates" depending on who is making that call...
Personally I have always seen several major divions between "pirates":
#1. Gate snipers
Generally stabbed, bookmark dependant, 2+ alt accounts logged on at all times, trying to blow up haulers then picking up the loot with 1 of their alts. (the only form of PvP in eve that I honestly don't like/respect)
#2. Belt "pirates"
Generally carrying stabs or are in ceptors/force recons and looking for defensless prey, they usually make their ISK from ransoms and loot.
#3. PvPers
Generally with marginally negative SS looking for good fights, small fleets to play with, or other "exciting" PvP.
#4. Mercs
Professional PvPers that do whatever they feel like when not on contract.
#5. Territorialists
People who very aggressivly keep control of resources(often dead space complexes), often killing people in supposed "acts of piracy" to keep their resources/territory under control.
#6. Alt "Pirates"
Alt accounts of other chars that just log on and try to attack anyone they can find from time to time. Not really any ISK made from it, often just picking any fight they can in less expensive ships to have fun.
All these groups get labeled as pirates by some people even though they have completly different styles, motivations, and goals... It is hard to even compair many of the self proclaimed "pirate" corps because they share very little in common other then that they kill people who are not concord sanctioned war targets.
This was just thrown down quick, ovbiously not all those divions are clear with alot of people and corps. It just really seems that the term "pirate" and "pirates =" is thrown around alot. Depending on who is saying it they also have alot of implied exclusions/inclusions attached with that term.
I also would like to point out that in this post there are NO player/corp names. If any are brought up, I WILL NOT respond to this thread and will probabaly delete this post.

I use stabs when i feel they are needed, however at that time I was NOT using stabs. Do you really think I would have just sat there slowing going into hull my setup might not be great. However I wanted to fit 6 named T1 tachs to do a bit more damage and still hit people 152km away from the gate.
Say and think what the hell you like, I'm just stating the facts, once again I ask Aeaus to check his combat logs... ___________________________________________________ I want your stuff |

That fitting isn't crap, 6 mega beams/tachs is about as much as you can fit on a geddin without putting too many RCU/PDS in lows. 3 sensor boosters.. obvious why, don't need a scrambler for sniping.. and 4 tracking enhancers for the range, 3 heatsinks for the damage and the RCU...

If you were next to a gate and hadn't returned fire, couldn't you just jump through the gate? Or were you shooting but unable to hit? No drones? Seems like I'm missing something here.

Yeah I'll be putting an extra tracking mod in low since i don't think the forth heatsink is doing that much. The only bad think about the setup i was using is i had no drones or nos to protect me. Bad mistake =/ I got bored of tanking the sentrys in the raven, Its really annoying having to warp backwards and forwards from a safe. So I thought i'd try some sniping for a change, just need to get my skills up espiecally my drone skills, which i never needed in the past ___________________________________________________ I want your stuff |

Look LittleTerror, no offense, but do you really think anyone is gonna believe ya? I mean seeing your screenshot i've got to assume you're pretty much a noob trying to pirate. _This_ is not a good setup to snipe someone worth the shot. Considering you trying to shoot this inty for at least as long as a friend in another capital ship could warp in, fail in trying to harm your target and warp out again you gotta know: you'd loose this ship to anyone really setup to kill easy targets like you. I'd bet my first child on you using stabs and posting a screenie made an hour after the scenary.
Don't get me wrong, you can fit whatever you feel you're fine with. But it's a shame you blame the lack of skill to the guy that took the challenge in a frigate.
