From in game, just now:
Dear players, the servers will be closing immediately for an emergency reboot at GMT 17:32. If at all possible, please make sure your characters are out of harms way. -The EVE Online Team See you again in 20 minutes
This was announced about 5 minutes before the servers goes/went down. Since I'm sure a lot of you might want to post about it, I've been nice and created this thread for you. Should you feel the need to post your own thread I will twist around your figgs to make you cry, and you will never be the same again.
Enjoy your day/evening/morning/night.

Another unacceptable incident from a company that has really began to ruin its name.
GG guys. Eve was fun when you could play it without such issues.

A lock issue in the database was causing the inventory system to time out on most actions. We are trying to find the cause of the deadlock, and will start up again in a moment. ------ Valar Database admin - Server operations team CCP Games How to write a good bugreport |

There is a SQL server issue that is causing the extreme lag with the inventory system. The issue is under investigation and we are hoping for a rapid return to normal service.

Much <3 to you and all your hamsters. May all your days be drunk.
Edit: And that's the second instance of a mod beating a mod (or in this case the community manager being beaten by a dev) I've seen today. ______________________ 106 days and still a hijack virgin... Cherry popped! ~kieron Kieron... I have some bad news... |

You'll struggle to find another MMO where two of the Devs post exactly what's gone wrong, within 10 minutes of the server going down.
Hell, I work with computers at a large UK university, and I wouldn't expect my colleagues to know something like this within 10 minutes!
So yeah. Can I have your stuff?

Ah, another fanboy... Sometimes I think CCP HIRES them. No wonder they can't afford to pay for a server that isn't unusable.

Hmm, quite a few people have been having problems with lag since the UberWare install, and judging from comments I have seen in other threads including my own; there are no issues CCP side, in fact according to these experts we all have viruses and bad connections our ends??

Yeah, it's all gone a bit pete tong in the last week. I blame E3.
Stick with it though, it does get better. And hey, WoW has worse downtime/lag.

Coming up again now. We haven't found what caused this yet, but if it happens again we know what to look for.
This is a side effect of the upgrade to SQL Server 2005, either an issue in SQL Server 2005 or something in our code not working well with the new SQL server. ------ Valar Database admin - Server operations team CCP Games How to write a good bugreport |

Well said. I've played MMO's in the past where the devs/GMs refuse to even admit there's a problem, and insist for hours that the users' ISP/computer/firewall is at fault. Problems happen, but at least CCP admit something's wrong and try to fix it instead of pointing fingers at the players.

Eve Online has accounted for more downtimes in my MMO life than every other MMO I play and have played put together.

Any chance there will be a Post E3 commentary / blog after this server mess is cleaned up?

Edited by: Antodias on 17/05/2006 17:55:58 I demand the following from CCP or I will get everyone I know to quit their subscription: - A months free subscription - Two cups of tea that I was forced to make when the server went down. - 133 units Scordite Ore deposited into my personal hanger. - A shubbery.
I also expect that the server never ever goes down again and that it somehow remains forever sustainable without upgrades, fees or hamsters or I will inform the NSPCA.
