I almost laughed, but over the past few days, after patroling Gyerzen with my spy alt, I see people mining Jaspet with all the tell tale signs of macro runners (funny names, dodgy movements etc). Even refusing convo's.
Later on, I see these same people with funny names in 10 BS's including Raven's, floating about, and after checking their standings, I relised that they were Running missions.

Um, I've not used these macros but aren't they just pieces of scripting that you use with the Eve client to automate the mining activity?
Why couldn't the people who are using them also actually play their accounts sometimes and run missions, PVP or do whatever they want to do, then turn the macro back on when they go off to do whatever they go off to do and leave it generating ISK?
The macro is not replacing having an account on EVE like all the rest of us, which means to me you could do anything you wanted with that account. No?

As far as i know, the macro is a pre-generated script that lets a player to do some instructions with the keyboard and mouse, this script must foresee what will happen with the client, and knowing that all the missions have it's amount of randomness i'm quite sure that no macro can help anyone in making missions... -----------------------------

I'm not so sure mission running couldn't be macro'ed.
As varied as missions might be, the first link on kill missions is always the system. Set destination and autopilot after warping. Throw enough BSes at a kill mission, and pulling tactics wouldn't matter -- just fire at the closest red cross. Move to closest warpgate, rinse, repeat. When mission window shows the green Mission Complete, set destination to agent, and autopilot back, followed by dock and convo agent.
All it would take is a scripting program which could recognize graphics on the screen, and there are plenty of them.

it seems that anyone mining these days has to be using a macro, its getting a litle bit too much with all these wannabe sherlock holmes`s kicking about, i was accused myself of being a macro miner the other day just because i had my `auto reject` on (which i normally do) and i was watching the TV while i mined, i only had to pull ore form my can and into my alt hauler, not exactly attention seeking stuff so im ignoring local too since im watching TV OMG`s i must be a macro miner

Yes I yesterday morning in the same system 10 people with stupid named fgdirjnw (something like that) all created the same day.
In local I shout "Macrominers".

There's one thing I don't understand about Macro Miners, maybe someone can explain that to me.
In my understanding macro software in general (never seen it though) either records actions ("fly left, emulate ALT+2 keypress") or it works on network protocol level.
Either way, the tell-tale sign of macros, I gather from reading the forums, are "funny" names composed of seemingly random letters. Now, if these people are using real, paid for accounts (which they must be), they can only run as many macro mining ships as they have accounts. This means they have like what ... two, three accounts max like most of us?
Why are they not using "real" names for their characters then? Its not like they are generating 10.000 characters with a script so that the need for automatic names arises?
N.b. I have no intentions of ever using macro software for games and I despise it, but unless I miss something this is just fishy.

The term "macro" or "bot" is pretty misleading. I've done a lot of research into this myself -- a lot of them involve scripting languages similar to Visual Basic or AutoIT which are normally used to intelligently automate tedius Windows tasks. These macrominers are probably using scripts less than a thousand lines long which read pixel colors in a semi-intelligent way that allows them to play completely unattended.
I think you pointed out something very important: whoever these people are that are mass mining don't even care about the game background enough to take 30 seconds to pick a decent name or background for their alts.

I think you may have something there. Ever seen a Chinese keyboard? Keystrokes like sflkjhfaf may have no meaning to us but those ascii codes on a Chinese keyboard may produce a series of Chinese characters that actually means something. So the mashed keyboard names are not really an indicator.
I tend to fit a cloak and watch them for a while. See if there is a pattern to their movements that can be attributed to a macro. Then I petition them if I find one. Mistakes like lasers that go off for periods of time when they've forgotten to transfer the ore usually indicates a human player rather than a bot.

wtf are you talking about.... there is no chinese keyboard in mass use. To enter text in chinese you use pinyin and software like njstar or some other IME..... please get a clue.

There are only what 20-30 different level 4 missions?
It would be easy to write a macro that would account for all of them.

So what you are saying is that chinese characters do not have their own ascii codes? I'd love to see how you'd input the keystrokes then. Whether the keystroke you input is translated by software or otherwise, it has to be a code associated with that character. When not being translated by the software or by any other means, it shows as one of the standard characters we use.

The Client in TQ doesn't support chinese either way.
They might be able to write chinese in chat but not appeared in names. Need hard code (that's why they will have their own server with hard coded translation).
I know Chinese & Japanese people inside EVE who just spell their names with latin chars. Not fgrlgsw

They do. I have seen plenty of characters with no or rudimentary bio and the "average" but slightly offtune name, young chars no personalisation. Corps then often have "on invite only" in desription plus "we mine do missions and trade" or sometimes overstatements like "kill kill kill" or other mockery, logos random. Creepy stuff.
Not sure if they even use macros but they sure don¦t add to the game. Maybe it¦s a new way to get people out of empire..

Come to Saila...we have 8 to 12 Caracals EVERY HOUR OF EVERY DAY flying missions...over and over and over. They each have a two-part 'anglicized' name, all belong to SWA, and they never even pick up their freaking cans after the mission! I hate to see how it's gonna be when they make it to l4 missions...

Actually, it's possible.
There are myrids of ways to input Chinese. Simplified Chinese tend to use pinyin now days but traditional Chinese (used in Taiwan, HK, and some overseas Chinese education, although it's shfiting towards simplified now) has many ways of entering character.
For example, a simple "I love you" entry Under PinYin, it's wo3ai4ni3 Under traditional Chinese phonetic with standard keyboard layout ji394su3 Under traditional Chinese phonetic with YiTen keyboard layout xo3i4ne3 There are 4 keyboard layout for traditional Chiense phonetic IME alone (I'm using Windows XP and using the onscreen keyboard layout to figure out the combination for this post's example.). I don't have time to look up other combo. Traditional Chinese has several popular ways of input (Phonetic, DaYi, WuShaMi, YiTen, with possibility of different keyboard layout each due to the history of Chinese IME development and for backward compatibility reason, software carries them. It's akin to having Dvorak and standard keyboard layout for English). I know some people who used to picked their password in their Chinese input IME keyboard layout. It's as hideously hard to remember as you can get, but makes total sense and easy to memorize for the person who sets it...as long as yo know Chinese and that keyboard layout :)
I think in one incident, one person was typing sdsd, it turned out it means "yes yes" under that keyboard layout....I was like...man...I'll never understand them.
When I was dating a girl that was using some of those IME, I just ask her to translate the for me, too hard to figure it out myself

I have been watching some macroers in my local mission region. I have to tell you guys they arent running missions. They leave their drones out to kill the belt rats. The sec status you see is from the belt rats. Pretty amazing when you see the scale of it. Takes forever to kill enough frigs in a .5 sys to get 2.0 sec status. Also I think they are buying accounts. I had a macro op with a ferox guarding attack me in my deimos. He didnt fare to well but had all t2 and best named stuff. Arbie heavies and med diminishings. He mustve freaked when his tank failed.

ASCII has nothing to do with it. ASCII is a character set and has nothing to do with a keyboard. You can't represent chinese characters with ASCII, and chinese keyboards dont use funny ASCII sequences either.

omg please do! my bf and i have been ice-mining in kehour and there are an ABUNDANCE of macros around that ice belt! It's really annoying and we have actually managed to steal ice from them (well, we justify it as tax for being macros!). they then retaliated by attempting to steal OUR ice, but we pwned them since my bf has a rifter that goes 3km/s :)
