Edited by: Andrue on 18/05/2006 15:58:48 I think Eve-Voice will live or die on pricing. To be really useful everyone has to have it but at the same time you can't suddenly increase everyone's subscription by 30% for instance.
Make it a paltry increase for all and it'd work okay. Perhaps add another sweetner such as in game item that costs CCP nothing but players might appreciate paying extra for. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Evidentally, I'm out of touch. I had no idea there were so many apparent rumours and rants and general bad vibes heading toward CCP. Oops.
Either way, that dev blog did rox my sox. Exciting times!

oh and one other thing
YOU ARE ALREADY PLAYING A GAME THAT IS IN PERPETUAL BETATEST! you are just paying for the priveledge of paying now for a game that they will patch later, Heck just look at the latest coments from the folks on the test server as to what they are fixing and or breaking now.
Realisticaly the way this ends up working is that
Month 1 US/Europe gets the first build Month 2 US-Europe gets the "patched" build month 3-6 Asia gets the Localised build as they catch up with the re-codeing and translation and the endless debate that goes back and forth about whether they should be puting in the unpatched version or waiting for Patched version, and then when they decide to wait for the patch, when they get the patch they get into endless idiot fights over wether or not to put in this patch or wait for the next patch.
in the end the Euro server will always have the new content first, and the Asia servers will end up with the content some time later.

A couple of missing things, that are uberimportant to 0.0 alliances (moreso than combat boosters/new regions):
-Upgradeable outposts (and perhaps being able to upgrade conq. stations) -More 0.0 infrastructure - Constellation Sovereignty - Sentry guns, gate locking, etc. -Planetary colonisation (on a simple level).
Please, please include this stuff... --------

Regarding the top regions opening up: Can we get a data export of the patch BEFORE the patch is deployed and not (a) month(s) after the patch? At least the updated map data. There are a lot of 3rd party tools that depend on the map data, the jumpplanner being one of them. ---- ICSC Jumpplanner tool - Routeplanner for all jumpcapable ships! |

September.
Quote: Kali One Release - September 2006
This is what we're aiming to release in Kali One. The list is created from a number of criteria, the main factors being a "Prerequisite for future release", "low risk, short development, big bang" or "we really need to get this done" project.
Contracts This is the most extensive addition in this release, something which will affect players of all ages. Gives you the ability to manage corporations offline and create "missions" for players and corporations alike.
Combat Organization The new seamless map with new system scanning, new gang features and better facilities for situational awareness.
Exploration Rewarding exploration of space, utilizing new system scanning and the new seamless view (see above), enabling you to discover escalating paths. This is a prerequisite for Next-Gen R&D, which will be used for gathering a plethora of R&D items.
Next-gen Research & Development We're opening up this aspect of EVE with Reverse Engineering and Invention, enabling you to create Tech II blueprint copies by gathering knowledge and technology through various means, such as exploration.
Combat Boosters Creates regional uniqueness for 8 regions, from 0.0 COSMOS constellations with unique resources to mini-professions and specialized starbase structures. A whole value chain will be created around these items, enabling players of all "ages" to be part of the bigger process.
Ship Upgrades & Salvaging of Shipwrecks This instantly creates content throughout the whole EVE universe. By making all destroyed ships - player and NPC alike - drop new ingredients, which are salvageable with the right profession skills and tools, we create a massive market for ingredients and ship upgrades, which the average EVE player can now utilize to further upgrade his own ship.
Tier-3 Battleships The third battleship will be added to all races. Battleships are one of the most frequently used ship classes in-game and the class has only had 2 ships for each race. It's time for the third Tier.
Tier-2 BattleCruisers This popular ship class receives its second battlecruiser to all races.
Eight New Regions We'll be opening up the eight closed regions in the "top right" section of the universe. They won't be owned by any NPC faction and there will be no conquerable stations, only ore and stuff. This is done to make room for more players. It will include various rogue NPC entities.
This is our goal for September. Some of this will in all likelihood not make it, but now you have an idea of our intentions and what we want to achieve.
This kind of fluff and hype makes me sad. Following the pattern from earlier promised releases like Exodus we will see maybe 4-5 of these things listed. The rest will be delayed until next KALI patch and then the last KALI patch and then it will be said that its coming in the GANESH patch in late 2008 instead to leave room for some new cool thing instead.
This pattern you have adopted doesnt exactly calm fanatics like me down, it just annoys further. Why is it so hard to make a list of features and stick with it ? Seriously ?
The voice thing, well I play DDO as well when I can find an hour or so . When a member of your party loses connection he cant even tell you hes dc:ed, thats the major objection you will find people have with integrated voice, no matter how slick and cool it is when its working. Having an entire corp or alliance pay extra so they can use this tool ? I dont think so. Too many geeks with access to free bandwidth plays eve.

Thankyou for clearing up a lot of the questions that were/are floating around atm. I personally like the idea of the 'Corp' being able ot enable all emmebrs with in-game voice. Could eb a good recruitment tool but things would have to be worked out I guess.
As for the Versions of clients, nice, like it, just as I thought it would be tbh. Some people on the forums have far too much of a 'Vivid Conspiracy Theory Imagination' (VCTI), and by utilising the active part of VCTI have consribed a lot of players into fits of frenzy and calling for heads to roll should such and such happen, and OMG OH NOES I'm gonna quit if such and such happens.
I'm glad you took the time to write this blog anyways Oveur, perhaps if you had pre-emptivly realised the VCTI element of players you could have written the blog before you went ot E3 and posted it on the final day
I'm personally looking forward to the extra revenue from China too, it's all good in my book. ------------------------------------------------- AWMCorp is Recruiting

Yeah, we're "beta testers". And if China got the upgrades first, we'd be "second-class citizens" because we have to *gasp* wait for content. Swings and roundabouts guys - last game I was with staggered patches across two servers in all kinds of combinations, and they all balance out about the same in player benefit terms. Bear in mind that while we get bugs first, we also have the potential to get fixes first...
As to the Voice Comms thing, I don't understand what all the fuss is about. It's not being developed by CCP so it's not using any dev time there, it's not by the sounds of it going to place any noticable load on the server or even much on the client (likely to be less resource-intensive than standalone comms, I'd have thought). And it's not being released into a vacuum of voice comms where everyone will suddenly have access to voice for the first time and those that are left behind will become "second class". Newsflash: you can't do effective fleet combat without voice comms, which is why everybody already uses it. Even so, the major providers atm are a) feature-poor and b) still not free. Yes, some organisations aren't paying for their comms because somebody's donating the bandwidth and server usage, but plenty of people aren't in that situation. Furthermore, I bring your attention to the following quote:
Quote: There will be opportunities for a corp to enable it for all its members, which is really our main target group.
This suggests to me universal coverage for corps and probably centralised billing possibilities - it just means no configuration/version hassles, no setup issues, and vastly increased functionality. Look at what's being offered - full control, integrated into a revised gang system, which will simply destroy existing solutions in terms of usability. Imagine never having to say "clear comms" ever again. That's worth any reasonable fee on its own IMO.
Anyway... that was a bit of a rant, but I do think people are wildly and in many cases stupidly overreacting to this whole thing. Bottom line: if it goes to plan it's going to be like Vent or TS only better in every conceivable way. Where's the problem?

VCTI people are actually GOOD for the game. Its when players sit quietly and dont care about the future of the game that the devs should get worried. I know im guilty of alot of whining about Kali, but I think my whining has contributed to this detailed dev blog. --- The Eve Wiki Project |

I predict that Combat Boosters, Tier 3 BS, Tier 2 BC, 8 new regions and system scanning will make it into the KALI 1 patch.

Gratulations for this devblog, Oveur! I¦m not satisfied with all of the content (delays are always bad), but it¦s very good to see clear information. You would have prevented much of hassle in this forum, if you (or Kieron) would have posted earlier, that you are working on a long devblog.
I¦ve a few special questions: 1) Do you plan to take any measures against the high prices for several T2 items/ships till the release of the first Kali patch? T2 BPCs as agent offers would be simple solution, which should not create too much problems or work for CCP. 2) Contracts: Will they be searchable? 3) Next-gen R&D: Can you please post the detailed plans for this in another devblog, so we can comment on it. It could be a very big improvement for Eve, but only if it doesn¦t have bad design-flaws. 4) New regions: Please make them accessable from various existing regions. 5) What happened with Evelopedia?

So, what happened to the info that we got from the E3 interviews that said the VoIP service and Trinity upgrade (read, not Trinity II) would be deployed sometime over the next two months?
What happened to progressively releasing the updated models as they get completed?

All i meant was that its important to actually whine about things you feel is wrong. I dont care if its me whining or somebody else. There is no way you will be able to change something by sitting quiet in a corner and hope for the best. Whining is a good thing if its motivated by real concerns. It might not make someone Mr Popular, but im not trying to be. I will always say what i think about the game and you are free to disagree or agree with me.

For one thing, you don't have to whine. You can state your complaints reasonably, justify them in depth and then say "look CCP, here's my opinion laid out all nicely and politely". You can be plenty forceful while doing this without being rude or annoying.
For another, you don't have to "always assume the worst" as some people have advocated. You should always present the worst-case scenario, sure, and discuss it, and explain why you think it would be a terrible thing. But there's a huge difference between "I'm concerned that this will happen, and here's why it's a bad thing" and "this bad thing is going to happen unless we all shout at CCP about it continuously for six months".
I'd also suggest that, perhaps, a lot of people could learn an awful lot from real, professional lobbyists about how to get your point across. When was the last time you saw a bunch of oil execs sitting outside the White House waving placards?

Can we get a Dev response to:
1. Bugfixes. Are we we going to see any bugfixes inbetween now and Kali 1? There are many game breaking issues (drones, carriers, etc) that need to be addressed sooner than later.
2. Rebalancing of current ships. This mainly regards Carriers, as they need rebalancing. (minnie Carrier needs love more than anything.) Cap ships need more HP and more Corp storage and hangar bay space. Changing the component requirements would be a reasonable sacrifice. We would like to know your thoughts and ideas, and what is possible with your current plans!
3. Timetable of releasing Advanced Drone Interfacing skill. This was suppost to come out in the LAST major release, and it has been delayed because "Drone Control Units are too much pwnage in a Moros".
4. Cost of new VOIP Features. You need to release this information SOON, before the forums crash from rumors.
Thanks for finally writing a devblog and answering our questions! (some of them anyways) ___________________________________________________ "I'm an engineer, not a miracle worker!" - Scotty, Star Trek: The Original Series |

For some reason I expect to see this...
EVE China and its chain effect
China is a very big project. We realized that it would be big, but never this big! The China release was not supposed to have any effect on Tranquility - and to try and ensure that, we doubled the number of developers here at CCP. We're now up to 96 people.
...type of comment said about the voip stuff in a few months time, after it barely works and breaks everything that was working.
If you wish EVE users to communicate to each other, try fixing the chat channel bugs first!
Of course people whine, its cause your sig sucks

Im never rude and I agree there is no need for that. Stating my complaints reasonably is what i think ive done actually. Me (and many others) have mostly complained about the total lack of current information about Kali, something that was very valid and hence we now have a blog about it. If there would have been 1 little thread about this in the whole week, there is no way it would have gotten attention from the devs. Same thing if someone typed together a well written post with just alot of /signed in it. Remember i didnt do this alone, or even start it.
I understand that you might have written your posts a little different, but we all think & behave different. I think my way of doing things worked well.
Final result of all this is an excellent dev blog and hopefully some more communication with us in the future.
