The worst thing I did on my first few days was quite the game. I took me 6 months to comes to my senseÆs and give Eve another go. 2 years later after my 2nd go at Eve I am still here. Passive shield tanking guide, click here. |

I dont think i did anything stupid, just ran those god awful tutorial missions (back when you had 10 courier missions or so before you got that +1 per implant). Enough to bore you to tears, although flying into evil 0.2 space was mildly scary in a imicus.
Unlike some i read and followed the tutorial to the letter
Oh and by the end of the first day i could help 99% of the noobs in 'rookiee chat' (thank god that doesnt exist anymore).

I was completely lost when I started the client the first time. I remember when I was doing the torturial and I got this nice roid in space trying to mine it. Then I decided to try warping and i spent the rest of the day trying to find my roid again. Such anger ________________________________________________

I bought a survey scanner BPO. Thankfully I was blown away ratting in a 0.6 belt with it in my hold shortly after.

Thought I would try to be clever and make money trading, so bought a load of soil without realising how much room each unit took up, and without the skills to fly and industrial :(
Spent all my money on it too so couldn't afford the skills for an indy, and then took FOR EVER moving the damn stuff 7 jumps in a Rifter. Repeatedly. With no instas (took me 2 months to work out how to make them.... Put me right off trading!

I guess the thing that annoyed me most at the time was completely misunderstanding the skill system, along with a few other factors. Here's how it went down:
Fresh out of some silly academy, D'Nar flies around in his shiny Ibis and is rapidly annoyed that it really isn't good for much except looking ugly. He browses the market, asks around, and hears that this "Kestrel" is a really good starter ship for noobs like him. "Oh, joy! This Kestrel looks really sexy," he says to himself, chortling with glee at all the ore he can mine with that massive cargo hold. So he proceeds to train Spaceship Command, thinking that this was the sole requirement for bigger and better ships. Needless to say, several days later and after 4 levels of Spaceship Command... "Operation of Kestrel requires the skills Caldari Frigate level 3."
"****. I'm a fool" he says, and proceeds to train caldari frig to 3. So, a while later, he goes to fit 4 mining lasers of some sort on his shiny new kessie, and "You can not fit the Uber Civilian Min0r thingie, because bla bla bla" ...
So there I was, 43 ISK in my wallet, mining lasers in my hangar, and feeling like a complete idiot. It should be mentioned that I have a bit more in my wallet, and fewer mining lasers in my hangar.
But I'm still an idiot. _____ Please Hold For Sig Note that these comments do not represent my opinion, or that of my corporation, alliance, government, or ISP.

I hopped in a shuttle and headed straight to 0.0 within the 1st hour of logging on.
Made it through low sec just fine. But that jump into 0.0 hurt a lot. ___________

After spending some time afking lvl 1 missions in a Thrasher I asked a friend if it could take lvl 2 missions, and was told that I needed a Cruiser for that. After my frigate experiences, I decided to train straight for a Rupture, which I purchased and fitted probably the most crappy setup ever fitted to a Rupture (it did include medium arty though :)), and proceeded to lose it after a couple of days of lvl 2s.
I then trained to use a Cyclone. Thought, now I can fly a Cyclone, I can do lvl 3 missions now...... boom.
After this, you may have thought I had learned my lesson, but once again greed got in my way, and I took my shiney new Typhoon into a lvl 4 Mission last week. Needless to say, I no longer own a Typhoon :( Luckily a very wealthy corp mate has sorted me out a nice Tempest for me to play with. This is of course on the condition that I never ever take it into a lvl 4 on my own
Lol you is teh nubbin.

Well on my very first betaday I took my shiny new noobship out into the roidbelts around the minmat/brutor noobhome. Spotted some shiny omber roids and tryed out the civieminer. After a while I got bored and rightclicked on my ship, wich open up a menu, amongst the options was "eject". Tryed that one and was quite amused finding myself in an "egg" while my "mighty" spacecraft was still chewing on that roid.
Oki, this was interesting I thought to myselfe, but I bether get back inside my ship. But to my fear I chouldn't return inside . The message I got was that since my mininglaser was activated I was denied access to the ship, but the miner chould stop in 3 minutes. My heart sank to the floor but I was patient enuff to wait. Tryed again after ruffly 3 min, nope access denied for an additional 6min, waited once more, nope access denided for 9 min. Now I felt realy sad and petitioned my greate loss of that mighty spacecraft... And with true sorrow in my heart, I left the ship, still mining on it's own behind and returned to station, to awaith the petition answer. Strange enuff I got a new ship right after I docked ...
Never got any answer on that petition tho...

Edited by: Andrue on 25/06/2006 18:16:34 I found some ore in a can and boasted about it in the NPC corp channel. Someone replied that it was theirs.
Luckily they hadn't implemented ore theft mechanics in 2004 and I swear I had no idea they were mining.
BTW:If anyone remembers that (the other char was a woman) can I just say 'hi' -- (Battle hardened miner)

It was actually for the first 2-3 days that I did this... when mining, I constantly adjusted the ship's position so that all the 4 beams were firing, since I though it affected the ore yield and that when all the lasers weren't firing I'd get less stuff Silly me It's rather weird that I made a weird mistake such as that, since I managed to avoid pretty much all other silly things

Don't try that at home kids.

Lets see, where to start:
Same things as some others here:
1. Mission to courier A to B, got to B with Cargo still at back at A, many jumps back and no Insta's as I did not know about them yet. (I have done this since then a few more times )
2. Level 1 'Worlds Collide' looking for the 'ship' you need to find at the second stage 'Stargate' not understanding the difference between 'Jump/warp' Gates and StarGates . In a Merlin with no afterburner flying around in cirles getting pounded until 'Pop' . Thanks to Yorlbie and White for helping me get through that one and explaining about the 3rd stage.
3. Took a Badger Mk 1, Mod 0 (zero) into low sec, two system to get some Quafe Ultra for an agent offer. Thought about doing it in my faster Condor, too many trips in the Condor you see for the payload... Should have done the Insta's with the Condor but it was only two systems into low sec and back so... on the way back got Ganked by two yarrs in Ferox's. That lesson got me into my new clone which I immediately petitioned as it was obviously not 'my' clone as my clothes did not fit anymore, they were too tight and wear a size 6.

Well, I didn't know how to train skills, so I wasted a week or so in skill training before I got the hang of it. Another thing was that I didn't know that there was a "right clickey" menu. Searching for the station/gate icons ftl. I didn't even know how to use the overview, so targeting fast frigates was pretty fun. Not. Oh the memories. ------ I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train. |

I "found" a near full jet can containing ore in a belt and started trying to haul it in my rookie ship. Worse yet I realised I was struggling so invited other new players in local chat to help me haul the ore, then wondered why someone started shouting at me in local.
Other mistakes also include buying a shuttle to "fit" with modules, leaving items behind in the station on a courier mission, not setting any training for a while, buying a second skill book thinking it will let me train the next level of the skill even faster. The classic was "informing" a veteran player that he was such a newb for still mining veldspar, when the scordite was so much better (though admittedly he was the one who provoked the argument). Oddly enough I pod killed the same guy about six months into the game (that made me very smug for the rest of the evening).

Started training Min ships right before Tomb's "Super nerf" to projectile weapons. No one was willing to tell a noob that he should of jump boat then, it was all down hill after that until recently.
