I see a lot of minmatar riding other races ship (specially cladari), but i never see any gallente or ammar or caldari piloting minmatar ships..
are we gimped in pvp ?

No, it's just that the ships are horribly, horribly ugly.
Nobody wants to drive a car that looks like it's just been put together by a kids set of dirty K'nex, nobody likes to fly a ship that looks like that either.

The 'phoon works fine for ratting really, just that like any other droneship having to wait for complete aggro slows you down a bit. Its the ammo based ones that don't have any sort of real edge, because you'll effectively be using T1 ammo with only 2/3rds the falloff love and suboptimal damagetypes for most anything except Serpentis on T1 ammo.

I can get my BS in about 4 days.
But I sure wont be able to pilote it well ...

Compared to other races Minmatar have worse ships for PvE. And they are particularly bad against their own rats - Angels.
-They dont have a good shield tank HAC.
-The BC and CSs have a weaker bonus than the Cald.
-The BSs can run missions, but the other 3 races are all better at it.
-The bonus to EM favors shield tanks but the high damage Minm AF is an armor tank. The Munin has the same issue. The Vagabond is a nifty ship but its great bonus - speed - is not all that great in PVE.
Yes the Minm have good tech 1 frigs and ok crisers. But that has no effect on end game PVE.

Many people choose Minmatar Brutor characters due to some very balanced attribute layouts that are possible. These people may have no intention of using Minmatar ships on that character...

minmatar sjips are tough to fly in pve-pvp but worth it if you can learn how to apply them to the task

It's often been said that flying Minmatar is playing the game in hard mode. It's really not far from the truth. Our weapons have comparable damage as an elastic band gun, artillery tracking is about as useful as stephen hawking with a ak47 and they're harder to fit than a cube into a circular hole, our ships have about as much capacitor power as a Morris Minor. We have a higher proportion of useless ships than any other race, and out slots aren't specialised to do any specific thing.
Somehow, in all this rough, there are diamonds. The Rifter, the Rupture, the Vagabond, the Cyclone, the Tempest, and more all play their roles very well. Why? Mostly because of pilot ingenuity. We don't have the best of anything, really (except the Vagabond, arguably the best solo ship in the game), but we make do, and make do quite well.
There's nothing wrong with having rolled Minmatar. You just have to work at it :P

minmatar are pve gimps for sure.
For pvp they have some outstanding ships and some craptasic stuff also.
But pve is what 95% ppl do in eve...

My CEO is Caldari flying Minmatar. (He basically hates anything not Minmatar :p), I fly Minmatar and Amarr. There are two Gallente in my corp flying Minmatar. I don't know what you're talking about. :)

I shot 2 sansha lords and 3 sansha frigates (2 volleys of 3) in my cyclone yesterday... but i must admit that was a very useless setup against any other situation.

Try a Vagabond, put explosive and kin t2 hardeners on it. That should pretty much tank anything thats out there. Not to mention it has a very small signature radious and great speed.

Minmatar is fun mode.
Look at the Ferox. Uber passive tank with missiles. How hard is that to use? Seriously? You have to be retarded to not be able to use one effectively. I was thinking about how much easier it would be to use one and started training for it then I realized I would quit Eve if I did.
Instead of using the stongest tanking ship with the easiest to use weapons possible I started using the worst tanking ship I could find with the hardest to use weapons.
In a matter of days I became twice as good of a player, and have had 100x more fun. And because I've gotten so much better I can kill things faster than I would have with the Ferox.
Sure it would be nice to make a few million ISK with just a couple of mouse clicks, but that's what manufacturing is for. When I fly I want to FLY. That's what Minmatar ships are best at.

Minmatar is a lot more fun to fly than other ships. Once you get decent skills up they are also some of the best ships around for both PVP and PVE. AC Tempest with shield tank or an armortanked Phoon with cruise and AC are excellent choices for NPC:ing.
Its not just about the DPS and tank when you fly a ship, its also about feeling. In that department Minmatar > all.
You dont wanna think like some Caldari automaton, valuing DPS above all, live a little!
