I have Dev Quotes saying Dust is Laser Focused on the PS3 for the next 10 years. And its not happening. What makes you think Dev Quotes mean anything? Devs are nothing by EPs and Hilmars lap dogs. #ROFLPwned Oh, well if that's how the rumor mongering goes, I hear legion matches will be capped at 100,000 players, and all goons get BFG's.
What has me wondering more than anything is how the resource gathering thing is supposed to work. I understand the concept to be a co-op PVE activity that can be disrupted by PVP. How can that even possibly work in anything but an open sandbox world? FPSes generally run on the idea of a high paced matches with relatively small teams. Even the ones with bigger matches, they are still on a smallish map with instanced fights, not like a big MMO or even sandbox rpg/shooter. For that game mode to not suck, they are going to have to do some pretty huge changes to the FPS paradigm. Maxim 34: If you're leaving scorch-marks, you need a bigger gun. |

Its actually pretty simple. Check out how it is implemented in Warframe. Enemies drop various items. Items can be sold or fused to make better items.
Its not that hard ! |

Warframe isn't even conceptually similar to legion. not even close. Warframe has such a small match cap, and small restricted levels. It's not like you have a hostile group pop in and start fighting you over resources. It's just blitz level, get candy. Even if there was a PVP element thrown in, it wouldn't work, you'd still be better off just blitz level get candy. Maxim 34: If you're leaving scorch-marks, you need a bigger gun. |

If you look back at your question;- you asked me how a good salvage mechanism would work. I believe I answered that with the Warframe salavage mechanics.
You are right about the Warframe concepts being way different from Legion concepts.
And let me state for the record my hate is not towards Legion it is directed towards the cabbage brains that are in charge of developing it.
With that said;- last night I played Warframe and in the 3 rd game I played I actually ran into a Dev that chatted with me about the game and played with me a couple of matches and then went on his way.
When have you ever heard a Dust Dev do this? Never! Nada! Nope! Ziltch! I didnt have any connectivity issues.
The graphics are actually decent. I dont have to worry about hard freezes. The patch notes are clear. FPS are not only about the game. Its about the community built around it.
While other FPS game makers strive to built the community up, CCP has trashed its FPS community.
And the most important aspect of FPS gaming and that is to have fun. Warframe currently offers all these things and is free. |

Its called a tax write off. Uncle Sam loves us when it comes to that. Why wont I buy the latest and greatest gaming rig for "official purposes" and write it off as a business expense !

Odds are no! CCP has already removed BPOs in the past. They dont like BPOs. They are most likely to compensate you with AUR or some other cool gimic they come up with. |

And that venn diagram has any overlap with those who play an EVE product? There's probably more dial-up players on EVE than dust bunnies who don't own a computer. Actually I do know plenty of people who have a console but no gaming PC. They have really old computers or laptops, macs, or tablets. They get a console so they can game and so can their kids, along with streaming movies ect. Sure we don't know the specs yet of what will run it, but many assume (i think safely) it would need a current up to date PC system. Now don't get me wrong, I understand that here in Eve we all have PCs for games (duh) and there is a large potential market. I'm just pointing out why many in the current dust community are mad, and many of them are saying they don't have a gaming PC as one reason. replying to old post, 'cause i think it's relevant
How about the tens of thousands of players who wanted to play Dust, but couldn't because we didn't own a PS3? I seem to recall some outrage at that, too. I guess it does suck for those who own a ps3 and no computer.. But really, isn't it about time the game was made accessible to us PC-gamers as well? I for one had been feeling left out for a long time.
Hope this also means more meaningful interaction between EVE Online and the Dust platform. |

I'm so glad CCP is finally bringing this to PC. This could slowly bring people who didnt wanna try EVE online and maybe make them somewhat interested into the game once they try the FPS.
Either way, I can finally play a EVE game with my friends who don't like EVE Online because how much reading it has. |

I can only assume that all money spent on the Dust514 MT system will be refunded in full or otherwise compensated in legion. If not then there is going to be some lawsuits.
Dust was always supposed to be linked to EvE, yet it never made it that far...

Most should have known that DUST514 was slated to expand to PC and Xbox (if the could have came to a similar agreement that they had with Sony). I was an early adopter, beta tester, and bought several of the BPO packages including both the Elite and Veteran ones. Those packages where quite expensive for digital items and the BPO's are the reason for the purchase (and I wanted to support further development of the game).
That said, some facts need to be restated involving DUST514:
- Removal of the BPOs in those specific and similar packages in any other case (digital content has some rather slipper wording in the agreements) would be considered in most of the world as fraud or at least breach of contract.
- Legion IS NOT Dust514 for the PC, maybe it will be an improvement but it is not the same game.
- DUST514 is slated to END in approximately 2yrs likely when the contract with Sony is due to be renewed.
- No major work is intended for Dust during the remainder of the game's existence only bug fixes.
Many online games come to an end it is natural, DUST is the only one I've ever played where the company running it has a sale on items and in game currency bought with real world money the week that they announce it is being cancelled and replaced with a totally new game on a totally different platform (Fanfest 2014 DUST514 keynote).
I encourage people to go through the news releases, watch the DUST514 fanfest keynotes and read the devblogs and forum posts to verify what I've stated, and those who play Eve itself check the population count on high-sec systems with Dust players in local, most went from a few hundred blueberries to barely hitting 100 at peak times.
Legion may fill the gap, but it still stands that CCP kicked it's player base in the nuts particularly the huge amount of console only players. I for one won't play online FPS games on PC due to both the hardware demands and particularly the ease of cheating. So... I am a carebear, Really?-á Ok.... I'll be CRAZY Bear then! |

Been playing irregularly Dust514 since Closed Beta started.
In my experience it will most likely be another fail release.
Some new fancy graphics and a new platform won't fix what is inherently wrong with the game and gameplay itself.
I was very excited about the prospect of an FPS expanding the EVE universe. Especially across platforms. How exciting. And given what a challenge it is to accomplish, I personally was in it with a lot of patients. But boy oh boy did it go from bad to worse to just plain palm to face.
I really hope they will cut their losses, dry up their bloodied noses and concentrate on EVE. This will have to compete with extremely good FPS games on the PC platform and I see nothing anywhere to suggest it can even come close to the desirability and playability of the other well established FPS out there.
The one saving grace for DUST514 was that it is free to play. Its good for a little bit of kill kill kill time when you got noting better to do and don't feel like to level your 12th MMORPG char. A bit of shoot kill die, rinse and repeat fun.
For gamers who enjoy FPS (and I enjoy FPS since DOOM first came out) for all that this genre stands for DUST514 is just simply a huge fail. I could now rant on in detail about all that is wrong and simply not fixable, but it is just too exhaustive to list it all. And I don't see any of it fixed by moving on to PC as a platform. Making the graphics shiny won't help the gameplay.
Dust514 has failed. Let it die in peace and please focus on EVE.

I don't own a PS3 and didn't plan on getting one. I'm glad Legion is coming!
I like to FPS every now and then- it becomes more meaningful if I'm doing it in the Eve universe. I'm also not averse to spending real money to enhance the experience.
Legion may still suck as an FPS but unlike most other console games I expect CCP will stick with Legion (PC) over the years and make it better. I didn't play the Eve Online beta, but I heard it stunk in the beginning...
I would pay $15 a month for Legion just to ensure it continually got CCP lovin'.
Then I could replace my Planetside2 habit with something that enhances my Eve Online habit!
I also like the return of the gaming PC to popularity! Anything that promotes that is going to get my vote. |
