No dates, no roadmap, no obsolescence plans just a "we've got a lot to figure out still." And are you seriously claiming there are a significant number of people who have a video game console but don't have any kind of computer whatsoever? And that venn diagram has any overlap with those who play an EVE product? There's probably more dial-up players on EVE than dust bunnies who don't own a computer. Actually I do know plenty of people who have a console but no gaming PC. They have really old computers or laptops, macs, or tablets. They get a console so they can game and so can their kids, along with streaming movies ect. Sure we don't know the specs yet of what will run it, but many assume (i think safely) it would need a current up to date PC system.
Now don't get me wrong, I understand that here in Eve we all have PCs for games (duh) and there is a large potential market. I'm just pointing out why many in the current dust community are mad, and many of them are saying they don't have a gaming PC as one reason. |

Also, for all anyone knows, they've got a whole year or more to enjoy what they've already paid for. Maybe less than that, but I somehow doubt it. Ha, yea I guess unless you're on a phone or tablet you kinda need a computer to be on the forums. I did see a few people this afternoon saying they didn't have "gaming PCs" which I assume means they have a computer, but not one powerful enough to play current games. Hell I know that back in the dark days before I found Eve (or was my life better then???) since all my work computers where Macs, I only had an old clunky, abused, sticker covered, outdated PC that could pretty much only run the Total War games and that's all I used it for. And when Medieval II came out I didn't buy a new one just to play it.
You're right in that I've also seen a lot of "might not" too. I know I got friend who's a programmer that has a pretty nice rig in his home office but never plays games on it. For him "games" are only played on the PS3-4 in the basement on the 80 inch TV. I may be an old yet very immature idiot, but i'm well past the whole PC versus console argument. For me it's just as pointless and dumb as the PC/Mac arguments. Everyone has their own preferences and systems they can afford or not. I do think the majority of rage is more about how this was dropped on the community (and I don't really blame them), but like you said we'll have to wait and see what happens. |

Was kinda interesting how they showed all the dust stuff on the assumption that it'll be legion by then, but in the final big keynote the guy responsible for it pointed at hillmar and said he hadn't approved it yet. Kinda makes me wonder if somebody's gonna get fired. :P But yeah, he did say pretty much what I've been saying all along... bug fixes and balance changes will continue as before in dust, and that there would be migration. Seriously though dust bunny guys... I've been keeping an eye on dust patchnotes pretty much since it launched, and have been totally underwhelmed. The entire point of dust was that it's closely related to EVE, and in all this time, the connection has been next to nothing. To be honest, when they sold their souls to sony, I hoped the connection would be as half-assed as it turned out to be. Now that it's going to be available for real EVE players, I'm hoping it'll be much much more connected. Integrated even. Maxim 34: If you're leaving scorch-marks, you need a bigger gun. |

To be honest I have a feeling that most of the time with developing dust goes to circumventing the performance problems issued by PS3 then making actual changes. |

You know with the current prososal of Legion there will no longer be any OBS right? Why would Legion need any Eve interaction when they could scavenge what they need?
Say bubbye to those kill mails where in you could kill 16 Dusters right of the back. Say bubbye to all those juicy LP points that get you those factional goodies fast.
And yes! Most dusters didnt see this coming! Big gotcha from CCP!
But hey it will fun watching them Legionaires rage when they see that incompetency doesnt get solved by changing projects but by changing one's own outlook!

Which is still Dust 514 on PC and as a PC player I will be setting up another monitor on my PC to play EvE & Dust at the same time yay.
CCP you have done well and I will be keeping my subscription going as long as the content is fresh and exciting for Both EvE & Dust.

At last! I will be able to make use of that special code I got with that big box with EVE book in it. I did consider from time to time buying PS3 to try it out but shelling out ~200 EUR for 10 year old hardware did not seem like a good idea.
Now the EVE universe will be complete again and where it belongs - on PC. I'm not opposed to "cross platform" things exactly as long as the content is also accessible from the "core EVE" platform. Well at the end of a day its probably not worth holding our breath over it though. As far as I understood the "Legion" is probably in pretty early stage of its development so seeing stuff thats actually playable on PC for current EVE players is probably around few years off - assuming they can use fair bit of currently existing DUST assets by just pushing up textures and effects.
The idea of DUST is pretty damn good but the current implementation has been somewhat ... generic. Perhaps partly as a result of hardware limitations. The initial promise was that dust would be released on CCP's internal "Carbon" engine with all this fancy realtime dynamic lighting that was shown at fanfest number of years before it became apparent that it will be instead on PS3 and with UT3 engine. Which felt like somewhat rushed decision of just scraping 2-3 years of development and then just clubbing something togehter in a short time for PS3. When it was announced everyone just assumed that it will be on a PC so there was quite a lot of dissapointment when it became apparent it will be on console and on top of that a PS3 exclusive (at first it was sort of supposed to come also on XBox).
This time they are going with UT4 - which is said to be pretty ok engine and licensing terms are pretty ok as well. Considering WoD got dumped they probably no longer have even a dedicated team for making their "awesomesaouce" Carbon capable of handling first/3rd person stuff with more than one character on scene - same engine was supposed to be used also for walking in stations. It will be interesting to see if CCP decides to use UT4 for that as well should it ever get around to release. Here, sanity... niiiice sanity, come to daddy... okay, that's a good sanity... *THWONK!* GOT the bastard. |

that's not what I saw in the tech demo. But as its not even official yet, we don't know what will be in it. Though as I said, they either need to go all (link the two from day one fully) or nothing (leave it as a standalone) however, based solely off some of the ideas from CCP Presents, it and valk will be linked to eve. How, and when, and in what way is the question. |

also, guys, the CCP presents show at fanfest is always marketing. It's a big sales pitch. Always has been. It's as reliable a source of information as that guy with the greasy mustache you bought your used Honda from. If you ever think about quoting it as a source of information, just remember that. The only part of this last one that I trust as even remotely useful information was the part where the dust dev got up and tried to do some damage control... so 30 seconds worth out of the 2 hour show had any value whatsoever.
