It was a sad day when I realized this. I was watching "Wing Commander" from 1999, don't ask me why I was watching it, but the similarities were too much for me. Phrases such as, "pods, jump drives and capital ships" along with other very familiar terms verified that Eve Online is nothing but a ripoff. I feel as though my soul has been torn out. I have no other way to describe it. The last time i felt this way was when I watched "Tora Tora Tora!" and figured out that the attack scene was ripped off by George Lucas himself for Star Wars. Geez...what a disspointment. I actually thought that CCP had created something original with Eve. Boy, was I wrong.
Great Job, CCP....

So CCP weren't the first people to think of pods jumpdrives and capital ships. Big whoop. --------------------------------------------------------------------

So...you think the 'Wing Commander' movie is better than EVE because EVE uses similar vocabulary?

If you would've done a little more research, you would've know that the space genre in games started off with Elite. Wing Commander is loosly based on Elite, all be it a more combat orientated game. More correctly would be to say that Eve is therefor based on Elite, which is a common rant/praize on the internet.
Elite however is from 1982, a very old game indeed. And it certainly wasn't a MMORPG ;)

By this reasoning, pretty much all Sci-Fi is ripped off from and by eachother.
Btw, you ripped off one of my posts where you used the phrase "the"

I think the word you are looking for is inspiration there.
Every fantasy book ever written could be said to be based on tolkiens novels, I don't hear too much whining about that. Probably because people enjoy them as much as the originals since the fact that they have an elf in them is not the same as plagiarism. But to cut this short. Don't whine or Don't play. In your case i'd prefer the second. mr Nub.

And of course wing commander (starring Mark Hammil ) is totally 100% original.
All the best ideas are always stolen. It's how things work, how things advance, even nature. A different set of solutions to a problem are devised. The best solutions flourish, and are stolen and through iteration improved, until someone comes up with an even better solution.
Just because something has been done before doesn;t mean you can't re-use it, although if you are going to re-use something it's a good idea to make sure you at least retain the same level of quality as the original or people get upset :)

And Tolkien got his ideas from earlier work, even as far as mythology.
There's alot of unique stuff about eve that allows it to stand on its own in its own world.

Wing commander wasnt the first sci-fi game/movie/book to use the terms "pod" or "jumpdrive". The term "capital ship" is also a real naval term and wasnt invented in sci-fi.

You will have to go much longer back then to wing commander to find those words. The moste fun is the Capital Ships.

I getcha, ill go sit in a corner now
As soon as ripoff was said, I immediately thought "costs too much". i did read but it still didnt click (long day).
Perhaps a lot of the terminology has been used in other games/movies/comics etc in the past, but thats dictionary terminology, not copyrighted terminology |

Imatation is the greatest form of flattery
Or in reality, Wing Commander hardly pioneered those terms you mentioned and so can be equally accused of being a 'ripoff'...
Don't see how any of this has any bearing on your enjoyment of the game however, you are clearly just trolling.
Get over yourself.
