As many of you know "Apparently" Im a whiner on the forums when things dont go my way. With that in mind. heres my story,
2 weeks ago.. Fleet battle in 9cg with BOB vs coalition Must have been 100+ ships on each side..
Long story short.. Lag was bad on both sides... After Activating siege mode some ships warped back into the battle from both sides.. and I lagged out IE Screen froze.. couldnt really do anything but sit there, 5 min later I wake up at my clone Vat.
No problem, figure ill petition there has to be Logs of lag considering there were 25k Players online and i was in a 100V100 fleet battle..
2 weeks later... I get a copy and pasted job saying "sorry we cant find crap in our nonexistant logs, we hope you recover quickly"
So.. with all the hardware upgrades and Optimization that you have done.. With 25k users online and a huge battle raging.. with people going nuts about lag across eve...
There logs dont show any problems..
On top of that.. We hope you recover quickly?..
HOW does one possibly recover quickly from a Dread loss?.
Now that my whines over.. My real question is, Do you have a customer service team of people who actually Look into each petition? Or do you simply have a poor guy in a basement sending out copy and paste jobs to every petition saying Sorry we cant help you..
and the only reason i know its a copy and paste job is over the past 2 months Ive put 2 petitions in and both have recieved the EXACT Same and i mean EXACT same Copy and paste responce..
- Apparently I dont use the "Correct" Dread - |

Well if your screen froze due to loading lag, it isn't a server-side problem, and thus there won't be server-side logs.
Yes, they're working on improving the warp-in lag.

You weren't flying the correct dread.
Also, the lag most likely wasn't serverside: it was graphical. Yes, we do need a "space invaders" graphics option for big fleet battles

This is the obvious problem. Naverin was not flying the Correct DreadÖ. Refusing to fly the Correct DreadÖ is the root of all problems.

its not so much the screen froze. I can deal with that.... its the fact that Even if it didnt freeze, i heard people on TS carrying on about Im allined,..... im not warping..
Pending my Siege mode didnt take 5 min to actually "Activate" would i have been able to respond and warp out? or even react to the situation..?..
The beef is that I couldnt do anything to change the fate of that outcome.. it was in the hands of the server.. not me.. - Apparently I dont use the "Correct" Dread - |

Why should they write a response saying "we can't help you, sorry" on every one of the petitions they reject (and given some of the things i've seen petitioned, i think that is going to a **** of a lot) when they can copy and paste the words "we can't help you, sorry"?
I mean... does wasting time handwriting the words and increasing petition queue times make you think "hey... that wasn't so bad. I might have lost my dread, but i contributed to a GM getting RSI too! its all OK!"?

What you need is either.....
The Correct DreadÖ
OR
You insure it. -----------------------------------------------

Having worked in customer service that used e-mails or other internet text methods to communicate I must say that it's not uncommon for people to have a set of text written by a superior (or some nice text designing person) to copy/paste into various cases with similar problems.
Im not sure thats what the GM's in EVE do, but it makes sense with all the ship losses in eve that they have some standard text to paste into responses to both answer faster and get away from spelling mistakes and such.
From a customer support point of view this can be a double edge blade as the customer usually notices a pre-written answer, however the efficiency in using this method almost always ensures that it's used to some extent.

Im going to balance this thread by informing that customer support gave me my lost items back today. They were lost in the wednesday crash 2 weeks ago. So i guess they do see some things in their logs. As many have pointed out, its impossible for them to see the reason for your local client crashing.

Edited by: Top Hat on 01/06/2006 15:08:41 Give it a rest, you died, end of, dont try and blame your loss on lag, its a p poor excuse, your story doesnt even add up due to the fact you attacked Galavet in his carrier quite ok during the fight.
Anyway its easy to recover from a dread loss, thats what insurance is for and if you cant afford to replace, dont fly it.
Lesson learnt? No probably not.

Do you really think they're going to sit there and type an individual response to each and every petition they work through? Dont be so stupid, if they did, it'd consume so much time that the backlog of petitions would be ridiculous and then you'd moan about that.
Cry me a river, jeez.

the lag in said battle was the worst i've ever seen, and i did consider quitting the game, but i'd spent ú70 on gtcs and it would have been a real waste. -----------------

Perhaps you went into battle with another client window open? (saw your "team naverin for sale" thread, so assume this is plasible with your 6 accounts). That can cause a very large amount of client lag on load-up (found that out the hard way myself once).

Heck copy and paste saves tech support alot of trouble. I use a program called Shorthand at work. With a few easy keystrokes i can write paragraphs about a hundread different issues i run accrossed on a daily basis.
Just because you get copy/paste messages doesn't mean they don't look into the issues.
Sorry about the loss of your Dread... Client Side Lag is a worse killer then an enemy torpedo sometimes...

There is this... client bug or whatever, if you get too much lag you will get out of sync with the server and your game will show you that you are still flying around doing stuff without losing FPS or any screen frozing. You can even access the market and buy stuff and everything else, but ACTUALLY there are 200 ships duking it out right next to you.
I had this back when we were fighting with FIX in FAT, I had 2 accounts active, a stealth bomber ON the battlefield (which was next to a POS) AND the BS who warped in with the fleet. When the 200 ppl engaged each other the stealth bomber didnt even see anything, it showed on the screen as if the dreadnoughts were still firing on the POS even though they had jumped out long ago. The BS was fine and only had the initial rendering lag and module activation lag but didnt got out of sync or whatever was going on. I didnt bother petitioning this though at the end of the day a GM had to move us all out of the system.

Yea I tend to drop my alt the moment battles start to heat up for this reason.

People drastically underestimate the severity of client-side lag in big fleet battles. Just because your screen freezes doesn't mean it's CCPs fault. I'm not aware of a program that allows you to easily track client-side lag, but consider the amount of stress *your* equipment is under compared to normal operating systems, not just the equipment of the server.

Could probobly find a 3rd party benchmarking tool to monitor system preformance. Will probobly give you a good idea of how bad it is :P

Actually yes that is client side.
You click icon to activate it. Due to system preformance your computer does not transmit that signal, "Network Packet" , as it should. Server does not recieve packet of data saying it has been clicked Server does not update status server side.
Hence its a client side issue. *Sorry Sometimes my profession gets to me :P

Maybe you should actually join one of these fleet battles and see how frustating it is, and it if happens to most doesn't that indacate a problem,

Been there, Done that. I know its frustrating. But its one of those problems that effect MMOGs in general in a huge way. The only thing that helps it is completely killing your video graphics which leaves the client more system memory to use for user tracking and server responces.
Untill more Efficent (translate: More Work) ways of programming the handling of the information and calculations are used the client/server sync issues will never go away. The problem is that it is almost impossible on a reasonable budget to make and run an MMOG without having some issues when there are 200 players in the same spot.

After another reply...
"The logs indicate no server lag whatsoever"
So with 25k people on.. and a 100V100 fleet battle going on insystem..
There was no lag.
not sure if i should be upset that my Computer
Amd 64, 3500 2.2ghz with 2 gigs of ram and a 10k raptor HD and a Cable connection..
was apparently "Making this lag" that i was experiencing..
or that CCP really dont have LOGS of anything at all and just make up crap as they g.. - Apparently I dont use the "Correct" Dread - |

CCP should recognize there is a problem, there should be steps taken to minimize lag (network or local). Perhaps a method for the client to strip down graphics (just the space background and the enemy boxes) during large engagements.
