This would means that you could with very little effort start killing off peoples skill points, which equate directly to real life time and money. There'd be no way to keep yourself safe. Insurance and one clone should be enough to at least keep you alive and kicking even in the direst situations.Loosing a million skill points because some ******** griefers are bored simlpy isn't on.
Heck, why limit it to one alt in the same station? Four or five alts in the station (in different corps if need be) all hitting "Assassinate" with, say, 10 seconds between each one would really add entertainment value!
And believe me, if anything like this was in game, then this kind of scenario would take place.

QFT.
I don't care if it took 2 years to train up the skills to do it, there's no justification for griefing mechanics like this. If this possibility even existed in-game you can say goodbye to the entire implants market.
Edit: Remember, this isn't WoW. EVE has death penalites. HARSH ones. Full set of slave/+4 implants? Lost cos someone pressed a "kill him" button and you couldn't defend against it? Billions of isk gone in an instant? Bye, new game please, cancel subs.
Really, really bad bad bad idea.

No, most people would buy implants all the same. With ALOT of train time or required skills and a fair bit of risk of dieing urself and someone knowing that you tried to kill them it would make it so that only a hand full of people would be willing to put their necks out on the line to kill someone for isk. In effect refining who is even a target to ceo's and name greivers. Being so few will allow assassin to charge a fair bit for their work and making it a small profession added to EVE. The people who are targeted are most likely have a ton of isk already and by adding this it will make leaders more timid of docking were they please. I would like for it to be perfectly safe with still a chance of failing if you have legal kill rights on him to attempt to kill. I like the idea and if it is portrayed correctly it will make the game more interesting in the way of corporations and alliances attacking eachother in another battlefield.

This is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. As a thought experiment it's interesting to think about for approximately 1.25 seconds though.

Just be patient and wait for CCP to create the walk-in stations and human rendering, when they finally bring in combat (assuming the planetside/stationside element of the game is as freeform as the standard game) I'm sure assasin could be a perfectly viable profession

Being in station allows me to:
Make some tea/coffee Watch TV Make dinner Go to the shops Do some chores Take a shower
Don't tell me: you log off and your character stays in station for 2 minutes to allow a ******** grief-ball the opportunity to assassinate you, because, you know - LOGGING OFF IS BAD and you should be punished for doing it.
This is a dumb idea, as is fighting in stations. I'm certain CCP won't be able to do it in any case. They come up with these ideas from time to time to pique interest in the game but nothing ever comes of them (it's called marketing). Remember atmospheric flight? What a joke that was!

Ok, I think pretty much everyone has agreed that this idea is a bad one as it stands, but thats only because it has been implemented wrongly.
Sorry to the OP but the way you describe it seems to be that as long as you have these skills, you can do it, which is totally against the way the rest of the game works. At Assassination lvl 1, you should be able to kill someone, but it would be very unlikely for you to succeed. So when you have lvl 5 you might have, say, a 50% chance of killing your target.
Also, to prevent the griefing that most people have mentioned, there would have to be some sort of time scale required for the assassination and a skill to shorten this time. So without skill, the assassination would take, say, 4hrs and with skills this could be brought down to 3hrs. So as long as a pilot undocks within this time, he is untouchable. Likewise if he is not online, he should not be able to be killed this way.
These changes would prevent the insta I-win button of which you speak but it would also give active players an advantage over those who just login at a hostile station then go afk for the rest of the day, causing the enemy to be very cautious all the time in case he suddenly becomes active.
Of course, the figures I have given for time and chance are just ballpark figures, I just thought that I would contribute something possitive to this post rather than flaming it which a lot of people seem to think is their duty to do.

That isn't positive, it's just putting make-up on a corpse. Let me tell you something, forget the mascara, this is a bad idea. No, not really bad, more STUPID. If you want to balance it, then allow each player to put on armor, carry personal weapons, install CCTV in the corridors to their bay, hire bodyguards to thwart any potential in-station attacker and lock themselves in the toilet for the duration of their visit.
"You have a 5% chance of podding some bloke in the station - you don't even need to fly a nice ship with good mods or have any real-life skill - just press the button and see what happens!"
Hahaha.

Well technically there would be, You would have to train skills to use the assassins
that's not skill. thats having time. training a "skill" to level 5 is NOT the same as using skill to achieve something. player skill is different to eve skills-that-are-trained-by-doing-nothing-but-sit-there it's actually quite hard to explain the difference without using the word skill, y'know.
hippoking was refering to the use of your personal skill and ability, as opposed to the skills your eve character has accrued through it's mere existence. your method is just training over time then clicking a button, as opposed to you aiming a gun or whatever with a mouse, moving yourself into position, the opponent moving about and trying to avoid you - like an FPS.
i often find this skill vs skill discussion confusing :P ========================================== Iy |

When they implement combat into the station walk-around system then it will be a viable and incredibly new aspect to the game.
i think players should be safe when docked in-station always, it can give you much-needed rest from a hectic fight, loss, jumps into neutral territory etc. We all need a little sanctuary when RL beckons.
But back to getting out and walking around stations- this will open up an entirely new gameset for individuals. I can even see people who never leave their station, who make a living pickpocketing the very rich or mercs that will drop an unsuspecting mark in the canteena. That's when Eve becomes RL for some.

Why not just get everyone docked at the station on a TS server, go find a battlefield or UT04 server and duke it out there....

Hey I know this thread is a necro but I had a thought. Although in principle I am against in station assasination I did think that along with the other skills the OP mentioned you could only kill your intended victim if you were skilled for the ship he's in
Capital ships would become the protection method of the uber rich
Better still if every assasination attempt has a penalty such as a 30% chance of Concord finding you and sending you to your clone station.
How about Implants for assasination "goiters modified assasination implant" gives 7% increase to chance of getting your victim.
Hang on a sec I'm getting carried away here. Lets just leave it as it is for now

I know opportunities to gank other players are scarce , and I think this ability should be added to the game, to keep the griefmongers happy . Otherwise they might quit and go somwhere else to play!
But thinkin' about it seriously, hey why not? I'd make one minor change though. When you pay your 250 mil to the assasin and hit the button to kill, there will be a 50-50 chance the assasin will decide to knock you off instead. They are criminals after all, and can't be completely trusted . Might even loot ya of another 250 mil if he's in a bad mood. Like to gamble?
