I spoke to Ioctl on the second day of playing eve. I asked him if he was a pirate. He told me no he was a mercenary (at this time in eve I didnt even know mercs existed) He then took the time to explain to me some basic concepts of pvp and told me if I ever need help to feel free to ask.Since then I have contacted him on a few occasions for ship ideas etc. He was a great pvper with a pure heart. Sadly I never did have a chance to fight with or against Ioctl

After reading every single word on these 7 pages, I have tears in my eyes. I never knew Ioctl / Ben, but right now I wish I had! He sounds like a warm and loving guy, fun and pleasent to be around with. Loved by many players in EVE and by people who had the privilege of being a part of his life.
This makes me wonder of life, so fun and inspiring, yet fragile and short. Please do take care of your self up there Ben, I guess we'll meet someday.
All the best in the future to Ben's family, friends and the people of EVE.

I only know Ioctl from the COC vids. But even so this news has hit me hard. He seems to have been an exctaordinary man, a great pilot, and his skill and charisma shone out through the screen. I regret that I will never fly with or against him, and I think those that knew him should count themselves blessed for having done so.
ANd now if I may I will offer a prayer. If it means anything I trained for a while to be a priest, so I hope this will mean more for that..
May he fly to the heavens

I only knew him through the videos and his reputation. Still those videos was one of the things that made me start playing EVE. A sad day indeed, part of EVE died with him.
My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Though i didn't know Ben/Ioctl, and just by reading this thread he sounded like a great guy, friend and pvper. It is always sad to see someone die so young, my thoughts are with Ioctl's ingame and real life friends, and most importantly his family.

I haven't been myself since this tragedy hit us. I never could have imagined how huge the emptiness, a person you only met ingame and voice chat, could leave behind. There's so much I miss now.
And to think he wont get a memorial from ccp. I wish there was something I could do to convince the devs

Once there was a time it happened, that we had common enemies. And after our first fight alongside, where he alone tanked 3 BS's, i said to him: "well, I should put you and CoC on +3 standing now."
He laughs and answered: "Sorry, on my scale there is no +3 or a fine or a decent, there is only a -10 or a +10, mate."
It wouldnt be right to say, he was a close friend of mine. But I know him as an outstanding Soldier, trustable in all means.
He saved our asses more than on time.
A Legend has gone, his clone will never be the same, cause his RL Master is no mo.
I will never forget his words: "today I think im gone die."

I new him well and enjoyed his company along side with his corp mates. I got to fight with him and against him several times had a blast each time i did. It greatly saddened me when i heard the news of this young mans early demise in the prime of his life and i will never forget.
Just because heÆs gone, doesnÆt mean he isnÆt around.

tis a sad day... some of my fondess memories in this game and proudest moments where facing IO and getting away with 10-20% hull left.
IO made me a better player and even though was shooting at me; it was always fun to chat with him when floating in my pod.
ioctl, you will be missed...

His life may have ended but i am 100% sure he goes on in memory with you all, and as i write this i'm in tears over a friend of mine with - although very curable - cancer.
My best wishes too all, tragic news.... i cant begin to explain...

but often, he is just wrong.
Never knew "ioctl" ingame or out, but by the looks of this thread, i have no doubt in my heart when i say that we have lost an upstanding member of our community, and fine fellow human.

i have put off posting here as i only talked once or twice in game, but there are some ppl in game i have know for allmost 3 years who talk so highly of Ben that i allmost felt i knew him, and TBH i wish i had.
To the ppl in game i know,i am so sorry for the loss, nothing i can say/do will help but if asked i will try.
I will offer up what prayer i can.

This is indeed the sadest thing to ever happen to the EvE comunity. I greif with you former Cult of Cuthulu and Omnicent Order members and Ioctl's family and friends. Even if we shot each other with no mercy I had HUGE respect for this pilot, best pilot I ever have met! We had a few talks about EvE and other things, way to few!
Rest in Peace Ioctl, 23 years is not enough for such a noble person. Reading news like theese makes me hope there is something that can be called paradise. A wise man once said "The gods love the ones that die young".
It's the pilot that makes the ship,
