As many others have been, I was inspired to fight by Ioctl and have recently had the honor of flying with him. I'm a man of few words and don't express emotion well. I didn't know Ben as well as some others, but today I cried. This game will never be the same for me, if I can bring myself to play it. It's funny how it takes such a shock, such a tragedy to assess lifes priorities. If I do continue to play eve, it will be in Ioctl's memory. We love you, and will never forget you.

I have flown with Ioctl for one year now, first as a member of Cult and then Omniscient Order.
He was among the best pilots, continually topping the killboard one month after another. He will be missed sorely, not only as an Eve player but as a good friend to those around him.
Always willing to help, always willing to fight, never backing out. That's Ioctl.

Edited by: Tas Devil on 06/06/2006 02:22:27 A few thoughts come to mind when thinking of Ioctl... the first is the inspiration he was to so many others in this game on the PVP front... as shared by so many of us tonight in our memories...
I remember the day in aunenen 2 years ago when ioctl and I ganged for the first time to engage some shadow corp guys... he left me with a thirst for PVP that never dissapeared...
Later I met again with him over TS as C.C. took another turn in their EvE Carreer. Ever he was a great guy whether playing the merc ...the pirate or the pie killer... that says a lot about whom he was as a person in RL... As so many others have remembered he was always respectfull, slow to get carried away, and always had an encouraging thought to share with all.
There's another reason I remember ioctl... he had the hardest name to spell or remember of all those I ever encountered in EvE... and that says a lot about someone who achieved fame and renown in our game , and the real life person who was behind... never seeking fame for himself yet always conscious of his strong positive contribution to whatever he put his mind to.
I didn't know you as Ben...only as ioctl... But I'll remember you as both... because your attitude in Eve was true to that which everyone said you displayed in life... and that's not a virtual thing.

Such sad news to hear, my condolences go out to ioctl's family and friends. To have ones life ended at such a young age is tragic. I didnt have the pleasure of knowing him personaly but from what I have read about him in this thread, he sounds like an admirable man and he will be missed sorely by those that knew him.
Rest In Peace.

My absolute and most sincere condolances go out to his family in game and out and may the track to recovery and happiness be a fast one.
Reading these 3 pages of testimonies to what must have been a terrific pilot saddens me in 2 ways.
1. being that the game has lost what was a truly terrific person in everything he done 2. that i never had the chance to meet him and feel what you all feel and know this truly wonderful person
good luck and god speed to you all.
Making ISK is the name of the game. Those who say otherwise are either poor bastards or liars!

This is a sad day indeed. I never knew him as Ben, just Io, but the few fights we had were among the high points of my Eve time. My condolences go out to his family and friends.

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the death of Ben Crackel, who many of you may know in-game as ioctl. Ben passed away silently in his sleep for reasons that are not fully known at this time. He was 23.
When I welcomed Ben into the fledgling Cult of Cthulhu over two and a half years ago, I was naturally concerned about the calibre of the pilot we were receiving. It turned out very quickly, however, that my doubts were completely unfounded. A peerless pvper of quite frankly humbling skill and guts, as ioctl Ben was responsible for by far the greatest share of action meted by the Cult throughout its three years of existence. Our reputation would have been nothing without him. More so than that though, he was our friend, and somebody who I count as one of the most likeable, funny and friendly people I have ever met - online or off. His passing diminishes us all in ways we may never come to fully understand.
He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

That sucks. At age 23, damn that's my age.

Although I havn't been flying with Io for very long, I was impressed with his abilities and those of the Coc guys. The moment I joined it was easy to see he was highly respected, both ingame and out.
My condolences to his family.
23 is definately too young...
