Want to give some of our great video makers ideas for their music so they don't end up with some horrible rap song or a piece of bad techno? Post 'em here.
I say that "Wounds" by Masterplan (Genre: Power Metal) needs to be used simply because its so badass.

Putting commercial tracks to the vids just sucks IMHO. Or at least make a decent mix of them instead of throwing some tracks in a row with lame fade ins/outs. If you make the vid by yourself you also should arrange for the music.
Contact me ingame if you like a custom made track for the vid.

Nice suggestions.
I've actually got a Garnier track in mind for a long-term project I'm working on: "La Voyage de Simone", a really slow and evil track. I'm a big fan of Garniers more sinister stuff. Scruff could work really nicely too for comedy vids, nothing like some cheeky jazz to add to the ambience, Valley of the Sausages or something.
P.S. Thanks for the seconding Phistik. Someday when I make my own work, it will be completely and utterly loaded with Massive Attack. Until then I guess we'll have to deal with Linkin Park en masse.

I wouldn't say any Massive Attack. For instance Teardrop might not fit too well.
E.S. Posthumus does good stuff (Pompeii, Tikal)
I'm also a big fan of anything Hans Zimmer (The Rock, The Peacemaker, Crimson Tide, Pirates of the Carribean [technically his student Klaus Badelt but Hans had a big part in it too], GLADIATOR, many more]
Often neglected are also the first three movements of Beethoven's Ninth. The fourth movement has the famous happy-singsong "Ode to Joy" but the first three movements are more violent and tumultuous. Think the Fifth.
For big huge Titan stuff, when you really want to convey majesty or sheer might, I am a big fan of the "O Fortuna" chorus from Orff's Carmina Burana.
Yeah I like classical music. But really I just think the fullness of an orchestra conveys power so much more effectively than anything else could.

Edited by: Tsavong Lah on 09/06/2006 10:34:08 The track from *.youaremighty.com (it's Schwartz Sonne, by E Nomine, but an instrumental) Inner Universe (GITS:SAC title tune) Dead Can Dance - Host of Seraphim (vocal classical, emotional stuff, very powerful) Nobuo Uematsu - One Winged Angel (Advent Children version, metal mixed with classical) Black Mages - J-E-N-O-V-A (just plain awesome tbh, boss music from FFVII with guitars) The Dust Brothers - Main Titles (Fight Club OST, hard rockish trip-hop almost) D. Dale and his Del Tones (omg it censored his name lol) - Misirlou (think "Pump It Louder" without Black Eyed Peas ftw) Tool - Parabol/Parabola (metal) Radiohead - Street Spirit (would be good to show a fleet losing for once) Primal Scream - Kill All Hippies (trippy, rockish) Philip Glass - Koyaanisqatsi (gothic, evil) Paul Van Dyk - Nothing But You (trance, would be good for showing ships off imo) Gorillaz - All Alone (kinda dancey) Hawaii 5-O themetune DJ Shadow - High Noon (fast trip hop)
Those are all I have off the top of my head.
Death is the loss of hope, everything else is merely despair.

Im surprized no one has suggested Liquid Tension Experiment - Acid Rain. That track somehow reminds me of Dark Shikari.
Blue +yster Cult - Flaming Telepaths At the Gates - Into the dead sky In Flames - Your bedtime story is scaring everyone
I'd use "strange" tracks like those. One album I've been considering to be VERY Eve'ish is the odd "Mischief Invasion" by Fear Factory. It is not the usual Fear Factory death metal, but rather much like the deadspace music in Eve, meaning kickass electronic music. Tracks like "Snitches are a dying breed", "Put out", and "Mind Travel" may very well have been on the official soundtrack for Eve. I swear.
Griefing is to ruin a friendly game, which Eve is not. |

I think classical is a highy underused genre for vids. It's hard to pick well, but when done right nothing beats it.
I remember a vid that was a flyby of ISS Marginis that used Alina by Arvo Part---that was a fantastic example of the sort of thing I have in mind.

There's this thing called "the law" which stops us from doing that.
Now what people could do is clip a 30 second piece of a song, the part that sounds the coolest, and link that.

If there's 1 thing that ruins a truely brilliant video... its a **** soundtrack.
Hearing a continual beat repeat 5000 times over from Trance music etc may do it for people in the clubs, but it just doesnt work for video's.
For cinematic videos, artistic directing, classic music does tend to work best.
For pure combat video's, I'd say metal/heavy rock definitely works well, and feels right to me put alongside PvP.
I cant stand however watching a video on mute because someone decided 50 cent would go well with their Vagabond raid vid o0
Bands I'd like to hear (as they havnt been used before yet would go well with combat vids)
Lacuna Coil Stone Sour InMe Bullet for my valentine Funeral for a friend Atreyu Underoath
But if I had to pick a single song... 100% it'd be
Trivium - Pull harder on the strings of your martyr.
Must tbe the most appropriate song for combat around. ___________________________________

it is a good song for the film it made it famous plus its a great made film one of the all time classics but i think any song is good becuase it depends on the video and what music the editor like and i hate this "don't listen to metal/rock rubbish" people have different tastes in music me i would go for
System Of The Down - War Muse - Supermassive Black Hole Rage Against The Machine - Killing in the name of
3 good song for pvp action but mining sng its kind of hard but hey if you can come up with a good mining video please post it. |

I think the TechStep-like drum and bass stuff fits to fast-paced combat videos really good, like Black Sun Empire, Kantyze, DJ Hidden etc.
But if you'd want some REAL space music, for exploration videos or just impressions of space, you would need the masters of dark ambient, like Lustmord or especially Inade with their album "The *****ling of the Anonymous".
It's the best ambient space music piece (what a word) ever. Period.

Geo Psy / Progressive is always good for video music
people will always complain however, my advice would be dont put hard rock on or hard dance on a video becuase it will only suit one set of people, choose somthing the vast majority would like

Excellent choice! My first choice would be "Spirit never dies" also by Masterplan.

Damn. That Brian May song for sure. Thats a long time since I've heard to. *Muth looks up his music library*
*1min later* Hemm. Strange. I don't have it anymore.. Wonder where that one got off to.
Anyway. whould very much like to hear in a movie these
#Audioslave - Be Yourself (jesus. orgasm for the ears) #Funeral for a friend - Your revolution is a joke #Foo Fighters - All my life #Eminem - Words are Weapons #Iron Maden - No more lies (oh mama, very good song. Usually not into hardrock. But you got to love this song.) #Sarah Brightman - Eden #Foo Fighters & Brian May - Have a Cigar #Linkin Park - Hit the Floor #Blur - Song 2 #Adema - Everyone #Nick Cave - Easy Money #Slipknot - Duality #Audioslave - I am the Highway #Bruce Springsteen - Murder Inc (hehe.. right down my lane) #Hobastank - Running away #Last of the Mohicans Theme - Proment #Rage Against The Machine - Killing in the name of (often used) #Limb Bizkit - My way #Adema - Speculum #Queen - We will rock you #Queen of the stone age - Do it again #Rolling Stones - I can get no satisfaction #Beatles - Come together #George Harrison - While my gitar gently weeps #Adema - Giving in #Ramstein - Keine Lust #Turbonegro - **** the world #NIN/Johnny Cash - Hurt (either way is fine)
And the big one.... #Metallica - Whiskey in the jar (why ppl haven't use this one in a movie before is beyond me)
The audioslave songs I whould very much love to hear in a movie along whit whiskey in the jar. The rest are good tunes/fitting lyrics.

I've always wanted to make a fast paced, violent, frig fleet vs frig fleet video with "Pedal to the Metal" by Kazzer playing through it. Its an awesome song that makes you want to get up and go.
My favorite song is (funnily enough) "The Last Saskatchewan Pirate" by Captain Tractor and I almost creamed myself when it was used in an eve vid.
