Hello,
I hope it's the good place for this.
Exploring Nullsec Relic and Data sites was my main income before Kronos.
As i am off these days, i tryed to make a lot of site. I say tryed as there is a lot of people doing the same thing atm.
I am very surprised by the balance in loot to compensate the loot spew. At the moment, for me it look totally broken.
The average relic site in nullsec give me around 6 / 8 M. The average Data site in nullsec give me around 8 / 12 M.
For the data site it look like a -30% balance but for relic ... it look more like a -70% balance.
Sites are faster with the new loot mechanic but we will need a lot more site to make the same income.
As an exemple at how its broken, take a look at the sceenshot below, i didnt thought it was even possible. I think i just won Eve exploration !
360 000 isk for a whole relic site in -0.9 ???

I hacked about a dozen of Relic sites in null-sec post Kronos.
Rubble and Remains nodes always dropped a lot of different salvage materials, so the decrease in loot gets evened out by the fact that I get all the loot, no problem there ...
However, I think the loot tables for Ruins nodes (the hardest one to hack) are severely broken. Good 50% of the Ruins dropped less than 100k worth of loot - and many times it contained only few pieces of Carbon and/or Metal Scraps.
I would expect that the hardest (and the only challenging) node to hack would also give the best rewards, but that's clearly is not a case right now. |

Running Data/Relic sites in null has returned slightly lower estimated loot values post Kronos (from ~30m each down to ~20m each). The quantity of items being the driving factor, as est. prices haven't changed much since the patch. I'm able to clear them faster (since I don't have to wait to collect scatter cans before moving to the next hacking event). Spawn rate has been similar to before, but I have noticed more people running/scanning sites than prior to Kronos.
I'm happy to have loot spew removed (even in exchange for less rewards) as it removes one area of frustration from the process. I typically got 80-90% of the valuable items with loot spew (by cargo scanning, selectively picking cans, and using the implant), but all the extra clicking was never fun. Loot spew was one of the main reasons why I started "cherry picking" data sites rather than running them to completion.

I would expect that the hardest (and the only challenging) node to hack would also give the best rewards, but that's clearly is not a case right now. I've found very similar results. Many of them had a stack of metal scraps and a single stack of T2 materials (and often a lower value one) compared to the lower level containers which would often have several stacks of T2 materials.
Sasquatch28 wrote:I say bring back the old mag and radar sites with rats in them I really like the idea of different levels of Data/Relic sites... with levels of risk and reward. The current sites are great for those who fly/risk cov ops and other smaller ships, but having even a few rats (like the old mag/radar sites) would allow for a second tier of sites with slightly more risk (requiring a minimally combat capable ship) for slightly more reward. This would allow for progression through the profession (and would tie in well with the next level of exploration, the combat/DED sites). |

since Post patch i have done about 100 relic sites and there is definitely something wrong i woulds really like CCP to confirm the math behind the the 30%(or so they say) cut
I assumed that what was going happen was a 30% cut to stack sizes or to the % either a 10 stack becomes 7 or you have a 30% less chance of getting so i.e a 7% chance of 15 power circuits instead of a 10% chance
What i think has happened is that have nerfed the loot by 30%(or more?) and then on top of that they have nerfed the amount of stacks, before the patch i would say the average is about 6-7 stacks in a can very rarely only 1 and sometimes as high as 10+ ,but now its seems that 2-3 is the average and 6+ is the rare top end with 1 now being fairly common |

post Kronos, i had more stable loot income from low sec data/relic sites then null sec sites
low sec sites feel like they got reduced by 30% across the board, which i don't mind and it seems right, but i find that null sec sites really vary from can to can, yesterday i found in 1 can ~20 mil worth of loot and in rest 20 cans all together around ~15 mil worth of loot, it seems that loot for null sec really inbalanced |

Relic sites in null seems random. I manage to loot 10-35mil per site yesterday. I lost some valuable loot to hacking failure (i don't know is it just my bad luck or hardest cans become even harder, those virus supressors!). Bit low but I think it's good that way because it's exploration after all, and it shouldn't be "stable" 50 mil income per site. Cargo scanner is your friend.
Data sites on the other hand are completely garbage. I have zero interest in datacores, BPC are crap, decent decryptors are rare. I found site yesterday with only one per six cans worth hacking...Datacores are cargobay stuffing. I've looted 120m3 of them - about 13mil total worth. In nullsec condition they are crap because there are no stations there to drop them and 120m3 is 1/3 of my total bay.
Data loot so far - about 50 mil Relic loot - about 200 mil
I've scanned about 40% more data than relics. Insmother region.
I think there's a need to look after loot tables not only cut them in some %.
Also there's no scattering, my neck and tired eyes send best regards to Dev team (i wanna add wrist too but it would be awkward )

I just done exploration for about 2 hours though low and null sec.
I see a problem on top of reduced loot. I am finding the sites have been cherry picked and left, so i am going in and finding a half empty site. In my opinion if sites get raided to any degree they should de-spawn after a set time to save heaps of people scanning that same site to find it has one container with one carbon in it.
Total for 3 hours scanning relic sites was not more than 3 mil. I do admit though i only found data sites and did not scan down a relic site the whole time.
Nice surprise though i like that they blow up and do damage now. |

What was the rough data/relic breakdown before the path?
I think I went 50+ jumps today, and 75-80% (conservative) seemed to be the new Contested Guristas Research Facility, which I was avoiding because of the reports I've seen of exploding exploration ships. This means about 3/4 of the data sites I found were the new facility, and 1/4 was regular data sites.
I think overall I was 35% combat, 35% WH, 25% Data, and 5% relic. |

What the hell guys....
Pre patch I could get from 30 up to 70 mil per a nullsec relic site, after the patch, I am happy if I even get 10 mil !
Many of the best "ruins" containers are completely empty or contain only trash like carbon.
Half of the cans in the site isnt even worth hacking so I just blow them up to save time and make the site respawn faster.

Did several Data sites in drone regions after Kronos released, and NEVER get any loot from hardest to hack container. And also didn't see any 'augmented' drones BPCs from Kronos release, but start to getting more 'integrated' drones BPCs, that dont cost nothing.
So exploration in drone regs become unvaluable...doing anomalies are more profitable now, what's the point than of data sites in drone regions? |

Drop tables are fubared for the hardest nodes (Ruins), everything else is fine. - very often there's only trade goods inside (carbon, scraps, ..), nothing else - most of the time only 1 salvage material drops (and if it's crap, the loot is worth less than 10k) - you still can get lucky and get 10 intact armor plates, but that happen pretty rarely post-Kronos

Ran several Data sites and the loot tables are insulting. Skill books and time to train not worth the time or hassle as you'd do better belt ratting.
Tired of Module, Rig and Ship tool BPCs...there are not that many builders in ALL of EVE history that could use the number of times these are dropped. The parts to build them are the worst volume hogs. There's been so many racial Encyrption skillbooks that they're worth a HS frig belt rat. I've even gotten Jury Rigging.
The decryptors and datacores are nice but meh,,,an avid inventor would burn through a days worth of exploration in less than 2 hours. Using Esoteric Augmentation is a liability.
Exploration is a nice idea but I won't be doing it again till there's a DevBlog citing improvements - significant ones. Till then EVE is still an F1 shooter game of rats if you want to build up reserves.

Relic/Data site are so broken in nullsec post Kronos. Living in nullsec was achievable on relative low SP, making around 50-70mil in an evening of grinding. Now though I would be lucky to get 20-30mil ! I even got a loot drop of 1 carbon in a Ruins can in a Monument site! CCP may have reduced the loot tables by 30% across the board, but I imagine it has only dropped by 10% in high/low sec, but by 50-60% in null to balance it out. How is fair? We dont even get a look in at the new Mordus Legion spawns..! All we've got to get excited about living in null is a few new animations whilst in warp and a new sound of ships going into warp (which is quite cool actually). C'mon CCP...please sort this out. |

Me too. Overall I think the rough isk/hour drop in null has been about what I expected and is workable so this is more weird than profession-breaking, but there do seem to be quite a few of the hardest nodes with next to nothing inside. |

Did some more scanning this past weekend. Found a Crystal Quarry with ~60m in Power Circuits and was ecstatic, but then found some monument and temple sites with Ruins cans containing almost nothing (one had only metal scraps, another had a single stack of T2 loot worth less than 100k). I understand that site/can difficulty, and randomness, plays into this... but I've recently found myself cargo scanning Ruins and then failing the hack twice, just to despawn the site, as the loot isn't worth the time.
Watching the salvage markets it doesn't seem like there hasn't been a big shift in prices (yet?) to compensate for a decreased supply. I wonder how many people (like myself) have been hording their salvage for the past year hoping the prices would go back up at some point... if that's the case (and I think it is), there's going to be quite a delay in price changes if supply/demand is the driving factor.
One hope I have is that they will add a new item to the loot tables... similar to the overseer effects or the new data from Mordu's Legion sites... that will have value independent to salvage material... to increase the profitability of the exploration profession without having a dramatic effect on other areas of the game (rig production). |

Behold stats from 2013 more than 50 sites I will start new series maybe because this null sec nerf is realy looks like HS now http://prntscr.com/3r8976
Solution think: 1. Higher requirements to some conteiners "ruins" "com tower" = lvl4-5 for hack and equal reward not one carbon omg ... 2. Lower scan resolutions for some high value sites like "crystal" 3. Imunne to cargo scaners maybe ...
This is better solution so far, than take all t2 salvage and replace for carbon, it will make impact on prices by time anyway and you will get the same problem and expensive rigs. I was NS solo explorer it was realy hard to does it in safe, and now its better to do it in HS :D
Problem is in SOV mechanics ... now it is quite safe to do expl. and another more profitable actions for people who live there ... |

I"m wondering if perhaps someone simply plugged the previous loot table into the non-spew container instead of merging the entire table first. This would result in a massive reduction of loot, empty cans, and cans with nothing but carbon, electronic parts, T1 salvage, etc.
Everything that used to be in all the spew containers should be in the new loot table, minus whatever factor was appropriate.

It was broken from the begining then. Low skills, low risk, cheap ships, what did you expect? Remove scattering and keep "old" loot tables? If you want to make serious money exploration must be harder. Want some money, make it sweat. You all missing one detail. CCP wants to keep ships building and blowing up. Explo is bastard child. Looking at loot tables was a %value cut, i wonder how long it takes to decide something like that instead of "looking at loot tables and maybe remove those LMJD BPCs...".
Alenn G'kar wrote:1. Higher requirements to some conteiners "ruins" "com tower" = lvl4-5 for hack and equal reward not one carbon omg ... 2. Lower scan resolutions for some high value sites like "crystal" 3. Imunne to cargo scaners maybe ...
I don't think putting all "good loot" in harder cans will change anything, sites will be cherrypicked anyway, even if you remove cargo scanning ability. Everybody will just go for "best " cans at sites. I don't think removing cargo scanners from exploration is good thing either. I hack very few cans/site after kronos and i like it. I'm kinda forced to scan cans before hack because of crap loot (i did all cans pre kronos). This lead to less clickfest in hacking which is good thing IMO. If they not change loot inside i will be cherrypick cans.
Exploration must be tight connected to skills because its too easy now. Easy activities must not grant huge amount of ISK. It will not change in the future, new EvE available for "all" players (read new, read more money) is coming.

I donGÇÖt think removing the ability to cargo scan cans will change anything. Until loot spew, and now unless itGÇÖs a RuinGÇÖs can with nothing but scraps, I always hack all the cans (if only to get the site to despawn). The cargo scanner tells me what order to do them, but I could use the can names for that too. If there were sites with rats, that I needed to fit a minimal tank for, the cargo scanner would be the first thing IGÇÖd change out.
Personally, while I wish others wouldnGÇÖt run sites (more for me!), I donGÇÖt mind finding a cherry picked site... thatGÇÖs still ISK someone else has left for me to get (rather than having not found the site at all). Yes, the ISK/hr is lower since the high value items are gone, but itGÇÖs still more fun for me than shooting crosses or chewing rocks.
Yesterday I ran my first Ghost Site on Tranquility (IGÇÖd done a couple on Singularity during development, but this was the first time with real assets at risk). I will say, it was quite a bit more exciting than the normal Data/Relic sites... with enough risk to have to refit my ship... and enough rewards (a high-grade ascendancy alpha and mid-grade ascendancy omega implant BPCs) to make it worth it. I really think we need more data/relic sites with this level of GÇ£barrier for entryGÇ¥ as a progression for the profession... it would justify the whole risk/reward thing too, allowing for greater profits for those who put more at risk.

Nullsec sites are fine overall from what I've seen in Blood Raiders and Sansha regions. I'm still pulling in ~100-120mil an evening, which is slightly less than before, but still a pretty good way to earn isk. The worthless ruins are weird and very disappointing after battling through a tough hack, but there are just enough really good cans to make up for it.
I did a small number of Guristas sites one evening, and they seemed ok as well due to a decent number of power circuits, logic circuits, and enhanced wards, but I only have a really small sample size for Guristas; I have not done any Serpentis sites since Kronos came out.
There might be a problem in Angel space though. There are no 15 cap console/Intact armor plate + 10 power circuit drops to make up for the worthless ruins cans since they don't get cap consoles or armor plates. Angel sites were worth less before, but the new loot tables seem to have hit their ruins cans particularly hard due to containing a lot of Angel specific (or Angel predominate?) t2 salvage items that are almost worthless. |

Post Kronos i have done my fair bit of exploration and it seems to me that there is some issue with the empty hight end containers that i hope CCP will resolve rather sooner than later.
As for the Relic sites CCP does not care what types of t2 salvage they have in the containers and this is as it should be. That means that Mirco Circuits woth roughly 8-10k is equal to Intact Armor Plate. As we have a supply and demand driven system CCP have not way to know what will cost what and adjust for it so it is fair for everyone. That is to say that with new mordus ships it is unfair to the other Pirate faction mission runners because of the hip nature of new ships. So as far as i see CCP need to ensure that containers spaw propper ammounts of materials or at very least state that the current situation is intended.
My main consern is with the data sites. My invention rather nicelly dependant on me finding datacores and decriptors in those. With the new changes those are a loooot less and i can live with that, but the chance does not seems to affect the other not so desireable loot like BPCs for interfaces and the materials connected to them them. I have issue with 2 things there. 1 materials are to 2 heavy to even consider looting unless you are done for the day and going home and 2 those Interface BPC are pretty much damn worthless due to the mechanic of them not been spent in the invention process. So in that regard i have a proposal that might not make the intention players all that happy but will actually increase the value of data sites. So make all materials for those Interfaces weight 0.1m3 instead of current 1m3 so we can actually scoop them even when exploring with small frigs. And about the BPC make them produce say 100 Interfaces per run and spent a single interface per invention job, much like the change to the RAM that will come next manifacturing content release.
I want to state the exploration is very fun thing to do in null sec and love doint it oposed to Rating/Mission Runing/Mining/Anomaly runing. And i really like that runing exploration does not introduce new ISK in the game while allowing us to make profits ( I kinda think that CCP went way overboard with the anomalys and incursion and missions that intruduce new ISK in the game from bountys and rewards, while not introducing new money sinks- |

I researched what it would take to be an explorer and build a skill plant to do it. It was hard and took a long time to not only train the skills to achieve success but to also learn the techniques of which probes to use and how to manipulate them to find the sites.
It really was a niche profession because it was time consuming and hard. The reward? Sometimes crap (relative) and on a rare occasion something really good. Regardless you made some isk; at least from the rats you killed.
I understand why that all changed with Odyssey BUT to accommodate those that choose to make exploration a profession they forgot to add something important to the lowered entry level: A class of exploration site(s) that is DIFFICULT to find and a loot table expansion to support it.
I can live with sites that are so easy I now use an interceptor to explore null sec without the scanning modules and only one probe strength rig. I can live with the hacking exercise only because I thought it would be applied to other player owned structures a careful explorer can hack into and steal from. I hated the loot spew for all the usual reasons and I am glad it is gone. I can even live with the rat removal although now with the introduction of mobile depots I think rats need to be reintroduced. What I find the most disappointing about the entire exploration revamp is that it does not accommodate those of us that want good skills and want difficulty and want depth of play.
Please, with the new six week expansion cycle, build on the current exploration base. Introduce rats to sites on a random basis. Expand hacking to other areas of the game: Start with offline POSes. Introduce a new class of exploration site that demands experience and high skill levels. Triple (or more) the loot tables in size and scope.
Maybe these ideas will help relief some of the pressure on the markets with the current exploration model but until then I guess we will all need to continue cherry picking. |

Run combat sites.
I have an alt in cas, and they were discussing "baby killing" or killing new players, and I mentioned that I'd killed one of the convo participants in Vale. She'd gone through a WH, grabbed 3 relics, then gone back through it again the next morning and got caught in a site by my taranis.
In the end she'd grabbed 80m of loot in 40 minutes with an imicus, then got a little greedy and come back the next day for more. Put rats in the sites and you can forget new players going to deep null and making (relative to their highsec earning potential) big isks with frigates, and you can forget about the players playing the monster, both of which are obvious design goals of the current system, and obvious successes that I can only congratulate CCP on achieving.
All that will happen if rats are put in, is that there will only be cloaky tengus, and there will be no combat between players, and new players will return being more frightened of null than they are greedy for the rewards. |

I assumed that what was going happen was a 30% cut to stack sizes or to the % either a 10 stack becomes 7 or you have a 30% less chance of getting so i.e a 7% chance of 15 power circuits instead of a 10% chance
What i think has happened is that have nerfed the loot by 30%(or more?) and then on top of that they have nerfed the amount of stacks, before the patch i would say the average is about 6-7 stacks in a can very rarely only 1 and sometimes as high as 10+ ,but now its seems that 2-3 is the average and 6+ is the rare top end with 1 now being fairly common
In Odyssey we doubled the frequency of drops. In Kronos we made the frequency of drops 70% of the value they were in Odyssey. The amount of items of any type that might drop was left unchanged. We actually left blueprint drops doubled.
So in pre-Odyssey terms in Kronos there is on average more items per site but more explorers so more sites being run and more items being sold so the value of each item is less. If you were about exploring post-Odyssey you'll remember values for exploration items dropped off a cliff after the expansion.
Hacking attempts have gone up from around 65k a day to just over 100k a day at the moment. So there are quite a few more people out exploring just now. EVE Software Engineer Team Space Glitter |

Just people who were excited to see if the new version of this would be better. They will soon find that it's more broken now and give up/go back to belt ratting.

Well to be perfectly honest there is nothing that you can do to balance the loot from relic and data sites aside from completely changing the meta of the game, e.g. re-balancing the ships in such way that the player driven prices of the items dropped from those sites become equal in value. As we stands some ships are more preferred than others so they are in greater demand and the materials linked to their production are more expensive.
If you add more items the prices will drop in few weeks and if you remove some the prices will go up. So it is all the same in the end.
What really annoys the players is that way to often so called TOP tier cans in explorations are empty or have a single piece of carbon or something equally worthless. This is something that you can work on most definitely. I can easily accept that say "rubble" can is empty been the lowest tier, but i really get annoyed when i scan "ruins" and see nothing in them. I had a case today where I found a site with 4 "Ruins" in them. Imagine my disappointment when 2 of those had combined loot of 1 carbon.
Also you can ensure that everything that is in those cans is worth looting considering that usually those sites are run with ships that have limited cargo space. Even the Stratios has only 550m3 for looting. And for explorers that are not in high-sec where there is station in every system having to loot 200-300 of interface materials is not worth it even if some of those have a nice price. So you can consider lowering the volume of those.
And ofc lets not forget about the BPC 90% of witch are not worth looting. Say i am looting the new modules BPCs in hope that you decide one day to add t2 versions and we are to invent from those. But for now they are barely worth the effort and good bless that they have almost no volume
I hope we will see some positive changes on those fronts sooner than later )

Yes. You could introduce new sites that are more difficult to scan down, or make the minigame far more complicated and more dependent on brains, with more loot to compensate of course. Or heck, even annoying random crap like the loot spew that was apparently quite effective at scaring many people away from it.
For those of us who liked to put down the effort to specialise in what used to be a niche pre-odyssey and make our isk from that, it's a pointless activity now unless you enjoy shooting newbies in scan frigates (though I enjoy that too). |

Happy to be running these again. I don't really notice a big difference in the loot. They seem to go buy quicker now though so I can run more of them and there are definitely more people willing to run them now post loot spew. They are a low risk activity so I think it fits fine with CCP's philosophy that they don't pay much. Good to see so many more people involved in these now though. I think the balance is playing out nicely. |

Im totally outraged by this crap.
In null i used to make about 30-50m per relic site in the -0.2 space, I just went from Amarr, all the way to the south east border of the entire universe through null doing every single relic and data site i found, losing maybe a total of 5% of the hardest cans to double failures, and at the edge of space i was sitting with 60m loot ... the data sites used to seem crap but the relic sites made up for it.
I say return that god awful scatter mechanic and with it restore the loot balance we used to have. I do not care about a little cargo hold option and losing a few cans over 90% of my damn profits.
I would actually like to be reimbursed the damn isk i should have for the time / risk / effort i put into that whole journey. But shoot me in the face if that ever happens. |

You have to realize that the market in EVE is a living thing and it will swing wildly. The loot you get may be worth less now, but so will the things that the loot is used to make. Its all relative.

Right now I feel there is an issue with the way sites despawn. In the past if a can was hacked a timer would start for despawn. I'm guessing now that's not the case.
Also, before the patch I'd go into sites and occasionally see empty (on the overview) hacking cans... this meant that someone had hacked the can previously. Now, I don't see that, but rather find cans that are empty or only contain small amounts of non-valuable materials. My guess is that these cans had been hacked before (would have been empty on the overview), but since they display in an identical manner to an un-hacked site it's impossible to tell. Maybe there needs to be a difference between an un-hacked, hacked but still containing items, and empty cans?
CCP Bayesian wrote:ETA: Loot table balance in general for exploration is something we definitely need to look at. Increased variation in skill books and BPCs would be nice. My preference would be a form of loot that would be independent of current markets, similar to what was done with the Guristas Data Sequences from the Mordu's Legion sites or like the overseer effects in DED sites. This would be a way to set a "base value" for sites, without messing with the supply/demand for current market items... and potentially crashing values due to increased drops.

Encourage people, as you described, to explore in null for big rewards.
One of my hopes for tiered sites would be to encourage people, especially who would normally fly frigs and cov ops, to eventually move-up to larger ships (Sisters, T3, etc.) to get the increased rewards provided in the more difficult sites. In turn, this will result in increased time when they are vulnerable (fighting rats) as well as increased risk moving around (even if many would be covert/nullified). In serpentis lowsec that I used to live in, and in the gurista nullsec I live in now there are combat ladars. Chemical labs in lowsec. H-PA crew, Digital Plexus here in Vale. Both offer rat-and-hack with drug bpcs that are reasonably valuable and the Digitals also offer neurotoxin books, which makes those encounters routinely a 300m+ loot haul. In different regions there are different H-PAs and different digitals, in different regions in lowsec there are different encounters too.
Everywhere there are combat sites for using combat ships without hacking. if you scanned 50 sites whilst relic farming, you should have a good idea what location to fly a stratios to find a combat site nobody is doing.
There are also wormholes, which also offer rat-and-hack in about 20 different levels of difficulty.
ie every possible tiering of site pretty much exists imo, and the failing is more in the "didn't actually explore enough" category on the part of some "explorers".
In fact the only thing that I would say that is poorly thought out about exploration is that some ded 6s (other than gurista) either don't exist (unrated reliable escalating in their stead) or are stupidly hard, so don't really offer much traction for someone who spent a day exploring a null region and then decided to fly a stratios to that system nobody was in to do a combat site they spotted from their frigate. That only really works for gurista at the moment.

With the sharply decreased valuable T2 salvage available, explorers are forced to hack the less valuable cans for stuff like Armor Plates or Tripped Power Circuits to still get some profit off the sites. Pre-Patch most explorers only cherry picked one or two cans and left the sites be, while now there are a great many who do the sites completely.
Honestly, Im surprised that hacking attempts are not even double the previous number. I was expecting them to skyrocket. You could just as easily argue that the number of hacking attempts suggests that even less people are doing exploration now. |

That's an interesting point. I have certainly gone from cherry picking to just doing everything because without the loot spew, it's not much extra time/effort anymore, because the ruins are frequently empty/worthless, and because I am flying a Proteus instead of a Helios now and have limited mid slots for a cargo scanner, so I am probably doing at least twice as many hacking attempts per site.
re: high level exploration sites: Another way to do it would be to make them impossible to hack without a very high level of skill/module/rigging, like with salvaging higher tech wrecks.

Yes it did. When the majority of a site's value is from a few really good drops and the rate of those drops decrease by nearly 1/3, there are going to be more worthless sites. There's just a lot more variance now since they lowered the drop rate instead of decreasing the size of the individual drops. |

The monument dropped 34.5mil. The temples dropped 35.5mil and 43.5mil. The science outpost dropped 13.8mil. The CQ dropped 11mil.
The sites took 5-7 minutes each in a tengu with Arch V and a T2 analyzer. This could be a lucky day, but the big drops are still there evidently if you look for them. In a covops, in somewhere like the sansha regions that drops armor plates, the income would be even better and sites done faster.
In my opinion the mini professions are now done, and enough time has been spent on them. Short of pushing costs onto other professions like industry, or putting rats back in, I don't see what else can be done. Time to move on to the other parts of exploration that are crying out for iteration, specifically low level unrateds, and drone combat sites. These take a much more expensive ship, with more risk, and spawn less frequently than the mini profession sites and certainly have lower isk/hr potential. |

I don`t know why do you think that, maybe you are lacking the proper motivation to make them profitable, but for me data sites are even more important than relics. Sure after you loot a average data site the estimated value in your cargo hold might look lower than a average site, but then you don`t consider that you can actually use those data cores and decriptors for invention and make a lot more than their plain value. I do that. My entire invention process is organized around me doing data sites. And to be honest i love that ppl simply ignores them and look for relics and that allows me often to find 3-4 data sites in a single system and go with 100-120 mil in my cargo for just 30 min of my time while the "relic" hunters look for those precious sites.
That been said the relic sites loot also increases its value if you actually manufacture something than simply sell it. Just a thought.
In the end if you think that data/relics are the sites for you move on to something that offers you that steady ISK stream that you all dream about, because next thing you will find yourself asking is CCP depositing ISK in your wallets just because you don`t feel like doing anything that does not give you a profit of 1 bil/hr

Most of the sites I find are 20-30m average with the rare 40-60m and the occasional 10m (but I think this might be due to cherry picking).

Hacking V seems to be a long train wasted for the current data sites so my suggestion is to put hacking cans into the drones sites with nexus chip drops, and bring up the isk per hour of these sites on par with the faction sites. Sometimes I do miss the days when I was in Querious pulling 120m in armor plates from a site after killing two battleships. It was a bit more exciting to know I needed to warp-off/cloak my hacking toon between cans too. Finding the sites was similar to today, hit or miss, but a good string of sites would have competitive isk/hr as those who were ratting. I've never done exploration for isk/hr, but it was nice to know I was still being "efficient" while having fun. That said, I agree the rewards were well above the risk (especially now with the ability to just use frigs and/or covert/nullified T3).
I think you mention several examples of things that can be done. I agree fully that the loot value of sites needs to be tied to their difficulty (either combat or hacking) and that it shouldn't directly effect production/industry (in a negative way). Personally, I like the current system of data/relic sites. I just wish CCP would elaborated on them with a scale of increasing difficulties and rewards, but following a similar trend of requiring probing and hacking.

That been said the relic sites loot also increases its value if you actually manufacture something than simply sell it. Just a thought. This was the only reason I did data sites prior to loot spew being removed... my invention/industry friends loved all the stuff IGÇÖd bring/sell them. While IGÇÖm often annoyed that I canGÇÖt fit all the larger items in my cargo (like I can with the salvage material from relic sites), I think this aspect of things gives the advantage to those who are farming sites close to home, rather than roaming. With some of the upcoming production changes, this could be a nice dynamic... larger loot = more localized sales/production for residents and more risk (larger ships) for the roaming explorer.

CCP injecting ISK into the wallets. There is no market dynamic to the bounties (unlike what happened to salvage/datacore prices after Odyssey), they constantly respawn (unlike needing to be scanned down), essentially itGÇÖs a stream of income. Well from what I read on the forums and see in the game CCP are favoring money making activities that can be done AFK. This is totally strange in my eyes. Both for the players and the developer. Why do you create a game that can be played while not be in front of the keyboard or why someone will play game that he prefer to "play" when not around. Long time ago ratting was dull i give you that, but at very least it required some attention and actions - moving from belt to belt, chaining the rats, watching intel and local channels. Now days ppl use drone boats and bots to do anomalies... am i wrong or this should sound some crazy alarms bells in CCP designers quarters... maybe it is just me. Same goes for mining or semi AFKing missions. Why make the PVE so dull and boring that ppl go out of their way to not be in front of the computer... I don`t know maybe it is just me again.
In regards of relic/data sites I say that rewards are more the enough for the risk in this activity. This is one of the lowest risk things to do while having very very nice rewards. And yes luck is a factor in the profits but with anything done a lot the statistics even out even the worst luck. After all the idea of exploration is to explore, not to have steady stream of ISK per hour. I had cases where i did 500 mil in an hour and then 50 mil for 3-4 hours running around. So I think that aside from the volume large stuff in data sites I literally have no complaints about it, and this complaint is because I hate leaving stuff to go waste. :)

Don't really know if i believe it's worth it to use the datacores and decoders to invent T2 bpc's, it would require you having access you copy and invention lines. The hit and miss nature of inventing T2 bpc, makes it hard to sell them with a profit. I did use to build the faction pos structures and T2 rig when i found bpc's, generally it's better to sell them items compared to the bpc. Some items sell with are profit, and some bpc's are almost impossible to sell where it's easier to sell the final product. I'm a relatively respectable citizen. Multiple felon perhaps, but certainly not dangerous. |

It is true that Invention is tricky process but if you calculate everything properly and you are happy with the profit you make it is pretty much worth your while. And yes i have access to copy/invention or any other manufacturing line i want. I run 11 manufacturing and 11 research jobs as a constant (i know i know i have way to many carebear skills :D ).
As for the rig BPC some are better then others, but it is always better to have something in Eve than not having it. Who know how CCP will change the game at some point and what will swap value :)

Yeah, I find relic hunting in a covert ops frigate to be fairly exciting. I played mouse to a Tengu's cat last night after flying around null for 50 jumps (without making an ISK) I scanned down 5 relic sites and a wormhole in an empty system.
Just as I warped into the first relic site, some dude came into local (of course) and within two minutes, warped to the same site that I was at in another covert ops frigate. I tried to close on him and he warped away and left local shorty. I joked with a friend that he would be back in a T-3 in a few mimutes and sure enough, he came back with a Tengu. He told me to "fight or go home!" Oh sure, I will throw down with my frigate against your Tengu!
I told him that instead I would just destroy the loot and proceeded to do that between checking D-scan. I managed to loot or pop most of the cans at one site and warped to the next one while looking at his combat probes. He was in the next one looting with his combat probes out to make me worry so I jumped to another site and began blowing up loot. After a minute or two he warped in so close to me that I could hear his Tengu whistle by. I warped out end entered the wormhole.
While scanning for a way out I saw him come in and thought that he must really be annoyed to chase me in wormhole space but after a minute I saw him exit in a Buzzard. Oh yeah, time to create more content. I exited the wormhole and jumped to another relic site hoping to ruin his day. He was at another site so I began hacking and looting again while keeping an eye on local. Sure enough after about 2 or 3 minutes I saw him leave local as he jumped into the wormhole again to get his Tengu because he wasn't man enough to fight a frigate with a frigate.
As soon as he came back into local I asked him if he was tired of changing ships yet and began to explode cans again. After a bit I hit the wormhole again and made my way back to hisec. Content created by both sides. It was exciting for me but not very profitable. |

Why tengu? SB is better for the job. No targeting delay. Lost one of my Buzzards in lowsec that way. I was abushed by SB while on my tengu he other day, RLML eat him really fast (i was lucky, his friends was one jump away). Covops are agile and fast but defensless, i prefer T3 for the job (+nullifier).

100-120 from 3-4 data sites? What region? You were incredibly lucky i presume. I'm exploring south, best site droped 22 mil. Items volume are insane sometimes.

CCP Bayesian wrote:If you were about exploring post-Odyssey you'll remember values for exploration items dropped off a cliff after the expansion.
Yep. Horrible move. From one extreme to the other. You made exploration easier, lots of people start to doing it. Its hard to manage loot values with players driven market that way. Items from exploration are used in manufacturing so: low frequency of drops/explorers = good for explorers, bad for manufacturers, high frequency = vice versa.
So maybe add some items not connected to building items, like in those new mordus sites, with an option to sell them to the market or exchange them in loyality stores.

I live in hisec so I find that the owners and renters of null tend to discourage explorers. I got shot up and chased through 6 systems before finally losing my pursuers last night. Relic hunting does not need to be buffed as far as I can tell. Other players are already providing "content" in this area.

Maximum i got from 1 relic site was 80 kk. Normally around 10-20. Maxiumum from 1 container 30kk. Not counting blueprints. When i started i earned not much. But now when i studied region, time etc i earn uo to 100kk per hour. Just playing in the morning before dt, and couple hours after dt. When sites exists there is plenty of them(met up to 4 in 1 system) and plenty of isks.If you don't meet sites at least 1 in 2-3 systems thats mean somebody running in front of you and better to find another occupation. |

Reading with understanding is hard? I was talking about data sites so as was Orovana. I have no problem with relics. Try loot all cans at data, if you earn 30 mil consider yourself lucky. That's why i've asked for region.
Yesterday i looted 120 mil from 3 relics, 2 jumps, 40 min of work (lucky drops).

I'm sure I'm going to get flak for this, but an "easy" fix would be to make ghost sites hacking-only, which would bump up the necessity to specialize in hacking. Ghost sites are already a little different from regular scan sites with their mechanics, so why not separate our two minigame exploration games from each other in ways a little deeper than surface-level?
Then hackers and archaeologists might actually feel different. Right now, they're effectively the same thing, you're just training an extra skill for [reasons]. And, as many have pointed out, there's not really a strong compulsion to get Hacking V.
I'd really like to see a different minigame between hacking/arch as a whole, because why I am "hacking" arch sites is beyond me, but that goes in the same file as, "How can we make mining a little more involving from 'push button, receive bacon ore'." oaramos: |oh-WAR-uh-mohs| n.
