1. I turned off sound, not long after I started playing. I often forget there are sound effects. 2. Didn't like the music, didn't like the sound effects. The few sounds that were useful (autopilot, combat, mainly for when I wasn't actually paying attention) weren't useful enough to make up for the annoyance of the other sounds (like the warp sound). 3. AMD Duron 950mhz, 512mb RAM. 4. Yes, (a few months ago) I now have a Pentium 2.0ghz, 512mb RAM (a friend gave me their old comp). |

Edited by: Franky B on 01/07/2006 04:26:48 1. How long have you been playing without sound? year and a half
2. What prompted you to turn sound off? Warp drive noise, system performance, interference with teamspeak/ventrillo, quality of sound was sub standard (tinny enough to destroy immersion rather than improve)
3. What were your computer specs when you turned sound off? (general specs, like P3, 512 RAM) AMD 2400+, 1GB ram, radeon 9800SE (128mb ram)
4. Did you upgrade your computer since you started playing EvE without sound? yes, AMD64 3200+, 1GB corsair memory, radeon 800GTO (256mb ram) PS: i still play with no sound for the same reasons stated in point 2.

1. How long have you been playing without sound? About the past year
2. What prompted you to turn sound off? Major lag when running multiple clients. Also horrible lag when going into deadspace/complex areas with large amounts of NPC's. Fleet battles also
3. What were your computer specs when you turned sound off? Amd Athlon XP 2500+ 1 gig ddr ram 2 * 120g HDD 128mb Radeon 9600 Pro SB Live 5.1 Sound Card
4. Did you upgrade your computer since you started playing EvE without sound? Only the motherboard and power supply when last ones blew up. High quality power supply purchased, and better motherboard. No change at all to quality with/without sound.

1. Since about 2 months after I started (Febuary last year)
2. The sound was starting to get REALLY annoying, and I had a lot of CTDs/BSODs. Turning the sound off fixed a lot of the CTDs/BSOD's I was having at the time.
3. A64, 1Gb Ram, 6800GT
4. Yes, now running with 2Gb Ram.

1. How long have you been playing without sound?
since it started and played just after beta
2. What prompted you to turn sound off?
Eve crashes otherwise it takes up about 90% CPU with sound on. No matter what posts have been put up CCP don't seem capable of releasing a patch that allows me to play with sound
3. What were your computer specs when you turned sound off? (general specs, like P3, 512 RAM)
1GB RAM: 35GB Sata drive: Radion 9800pro: 3.7 GHz chip: Motherboard: motherboard default sound (AC somehting...)
Oh and before you all flame me - NO other, let me just repeat that - NO OTHER game has or causes this problem with this set up
4. Did you upgrade your computer since you started playing EvE without sound?
changed drives and motherboard since the start, thats about it.
It's a Dog eat Dog World out there and I'm wearing Milky Bone underwear

Edited by: Plutoinum on 01/07/2006 22:37:43 1. How long have you been playing without sound? Since Cold War came out I think.
2. What prompted you to turn sound off? two clients plus TS caused problems. Not enough channels error with TS or cr4ckling sound ? Not sure, don't really remember it. Now I keep sound off for better performance.
3. What were your computer specs when you turned sound off? (general specs, like P3, 512 RAM) Athlon 800, 512MB ram, GeForce 2, Soundblaster Live or so.
4. Did you upgrade your computer since you started playing EvE without sound? A bit, but my system is outdated: Athlon XP2000, 1GB RAM, Geforce 4 Ti-4200, still Soundblaster Live.

1: Since I last came back to the game, about 1 year now. 2: Having dual screen I often watch movies etc on the other screen while playing. The sound would disturb the movie. 3: AMD 64 X2 3800+, 1gb ram, Geforce FX5900 4: No --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sound effects were ok except for a few: -Warp sound was too lound -Repetitive sounds (like Nos for instance if I remember correctly) are annoying as hell very, very quickly Sometimes I turn sound on when tabbed out so I can hear when my char reaches a waypoint 3. 3500+ 2gig 4. Nope, but it does't have anything to do with specs --- The Advanced Drone Control Panel. |

1: How long approximately 2 1/2 years
2: What prompted: a combination of a desire to improve game performance, intrusive audio effects (warping), and the fact that Eve's audio has never approachs the sort of professional quality I expect.
3: PC Specs then: god. erm... athlon 1900+, 512mbRam, Geforce3 Ti500, Audigy2, Cambridge Soundworks 5.1 speakers. I think?
4: Upgrade: several times. 939athlon, PCI-e Mobo, 2gb ram, Geforce7900Gt OC... same cambridge soundworks speakers, same awful music

1. At least six months now. 2. Irritating warp sound and reduced lag in fleet fights. Gets in the way of voice comms. 3. AMD 1900XP 512 Mb Ram GeForce3 4. In the process of doing it now. Will not know until the new box is up and running. Most likely sound will stay off to keep voice channels clear.

1) Almost since the beginning 2) a) Teamspeak microphone picks up speaker sound, I don't like having game audio through my headphones b) got bored of the sound, same warping noise (very annoying). Liked a few of the songs though c) Wanted to listen to own music. d) Sometimes I run two clients
3) AMD Athlon XP 2400, 1024MB Ram. Sound caused no lag problems or performance problems
4) Nope

1. Bout 9-10 months 2. a) Anoyying warp sound that would make anything else been played inaudible. b) Limited selection of tracks in juke box, that I felt didn't really fit the mood of the game in the first place. c) No actual sounds that provided any extra information, such as in an fps where gun fire comes from the left or the right. d) Other better audio around, ie eve radio 3. Athalon XP 2600, Gig of ram, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS 4. Yes

Edited by: Demangel on 02/07/2006 08:27:54 1: I play with with sound both off and on. And have been doing so since nearly day 1. 2: When I do have turned off there are plenty of reasons, and most of them arn't because of system limitiations 2 of the biggest ones are: A: PVP - any time PVP is a real (not just possible) probability, I have sound off to give me a few extra miliseconds less lag. Even on a perfect system this would be a good idea (as well as turning off all effects). B: Anytime I have Teamspeak open, the sound of the game interferes too much with the people speaking. 3: P3 (1.6 ghz - I know stone age at this point), 512 ram, Geforce 6600GT Video, SB sound card (think it's platinum?), Currently using USB headphones and mic, which bypasses/overrides the sound card anyway. 4: No.
Galaxion > If you drove a car shaped like a thorax women would call you Demangel > Dude... I would call.. Demangel > wait that sounded g@y I bet. Galaxion > Just a bit.

1. About a year. 2. Client lag. 3. AMD XP 1900, 768-MB DDR266, ATI Radeon 8500 64-MB, integrated c-media sound. 4. Yes, but have not turned sound back on.

1. Within two months of starting
2. a) When playing two characters simultaneously, having sound on even one of them causes both to lose framerate and responsiveness (no problem with Winamp in the background though). b) Reduce lag in big battles c) Hear ppl on ventrilo
3. Athlon64 3800+, 2GB RAM, X850XT, 2x250GB SATA drives, Creative Audigy2ZS
4. bigger disks
Incidentally I still turn it back on from time to time, for old time's sake (and if none of the conditions in (2) are met). But it's 99% off.

Well, I'm over 6 months and I USED to play without sounds. Does that count? You see, my speakers broke 4 months ago, and every time I'd turn them on they'd just let out an unholy screch. And because I was too chepa to buy ne wones, I played without sound for 3 months. Then I upgraded my entire computer because the old one was really crappy, and bought new speakers while I was at it. 1. ~8 months (but I still occasionally turn music on since I like the soundtrack) 2. I had frequent BSODs, which I later pinpointed to my USB-headset, tho. And to keep wifey happy with quieter play :). Oh, and warp sound. 3. P4 3GHz, 1024MB RAM 4. Nope.
