I tried posting in "Known Issues and Workarounds" again, still no luck. If someone can repost it there and in the "Skills" forum aswell please.
I found a workaround for getting your character's XML export so you can use it in programs like EveMon
Firstly you will need your character's ID number. To get this you can simply click on your own portrait. It's last numeric number in the adress. Then use this url http://myeve.eve-online.com/character/xml.asp?characterID=123456789 where 123456789 is your character's ID number Your browser rolls through a couple of adresses (probably to get you logged in) and spits out your character's XML data. Then you can simply do a "File", "Save as" to save you character's xml data to you hard drive.
This is not a hack! You cannot get someone else's character info.
I havn't been able to bookmark that url, so I just pasted it in a text file and I copy it from there to my browser.
Lemme know if it works for all of you aswell!

Wouldnt going to "My Character", then the right char and then the "XML" link be easier? -----

If you want to have it as a bookmark, just bookmark anything, then replace the URL it points to with that URL.

I have no problems getting the xml from the 'My Character' page, but some time in the last week or so, the implants stopped being included.
So I have to manually re-enter my implant values every time I update. Not a major problem but annoying none the less.

Oddly enough, I can't seem to go to the "My Character" from Opera, but Internet Exploder still works fine. This is latest Opera 9.00, could be related to the upgrade: it just keeps redirecting me to the news section. --

I had the same problem as you when using Opera. You need to set your 'normal cookies' preference to 'accept all'; that should clear it up.

Isn't that the evemon link? The one in the first link is for a far lesser version. It's also not the link in the "Official" post about evemon....

i didnt read all the reply's (forgi9ve me if this has been said). but the "save as" right click from eve-o on the xml data doesnt work for me either. What i do to get around this is to left click it and then save the resulting website in an xml format. That works fine for me.

The original post is for the EveMon link that was current at the time of posting; in early August. The link you posted is now the correct one.

If people are having issues with evemon getting their xml and using the version found at http://evemon.evercrest.com/ thats the problem. CCP changed the XML thingy at the request i think the developers of evemon as they had lost access to that site and could not do auto updates.
If you goto the http://evemon.battleclinic.com get the new version all XML files issues are solved. No need for dodgy dodgy bookmarks.

I repeat, this is a post from AUGUST, when the evemon.evercrest.com version was current. People are and were using this method to get their XML if they didn't trust evemon with their login and password, but because of issues with the website they were unable to get the XML, and thus unable to use evemon. This work-around still works, but it is not and was never intended to be a workaround for evemon not being able to pull your xml.

Hey, I already pointed out that its an old post, I just don't like people saying that something useful posted by my corp is useless because they didn't think through why it's useful, and particularly them saying such in a tone of disrespect.

Edited by: Brad Stone on 06/12/2006 21:48:51 Sorry for resurrecting a month old post but I just wanted to clarify the evemon situation for folks..
The version of Evemon found at the old evercrest site has a nasty bug in the networking code which, under certain circumstances would flood the myeve site with HTTP requests many times a second. Because of this, once CCP were aware that we had a fix for it, they deliberately broke the xml response to the earlier, borked version of evemon.
All of this coincided with the move to the battleclinic site the two events are co-incidental.
Bottom line is Evemon from evercrest site is broken, Evemon from battleclinic works fine and will grab the xml just fine.
In fact, the fix was exactly as described to get to the xml file manually - to simulate a fourum log-on first before going for the xml.
I know this cuz I'm the guy that did the fix (for both the logon issue, and the HTTP spamming)... in fact it's what got me started as an evemon dev.

Why is the old version still available if it is outdated and faulty ?
Google is still returning it as the first hit ( or 2 depending on which server you get locally ), killing it would stop alot of the issues with people getting the old version. . ------------------------- Rats, Rats The Magical Fruit, The More You Pop, The More You Loot ! |

Because the evemon team lost the administrator for the site, he;s gone AWOL and nobody can contact him... so until he comes back or the domain name expires, it will stay up. Thats the reason we moved to battleclinic. Full story is on the evemon thread in the skills forum.

I beleive that the battleclinic dudes are hard at work uploading the new datadump from t20 right now so forum access might be a bit flaky

I downloaded the version off of the Battleclinic site and it says that I have no characters on the account.

That would probably be because the My Characters page on the myeve.eve-online is down. The message on the page reads "Charactersheet disabled. Will be back shortly." So right now the good version of evemon from the battleclinic site has no means by which to go grab your char data. :(
