Hello fellow rock-chewers and ship-killers!
I'm currently in the market for a tablet for my workplace - a keyboard, mouse, and office-related applications (Microsoft Office) are all that are required.
THE QUESTION: I have lots of downtime at work occasionally but a laptop is generally too cumbersome and it has to be touchscreen for one of our applications to function properly. I'm looking for a tablet that could run a single client of EvE effectively. That or a very lightweight touchscreen laptop.
i.e. I'd like medium settings across the board and ship flight (particularly for PvP) to be nice and smooth. Budget isn't really an issue. I don't do huge blobbing or anything, just roams and solo mostly.
I'm currently looking at the Surface Pro 3 from Microsoft (the keyboard, though not included, is much better this time around) but I'd love to hear suggestions on any other potential candidates.
Thanks for input - fly safe! |

Have laptop, tablet, touchscreen all in one. Bought one for my wife. She doesn't Eve on it, but the specs are fine for Eve. If we're not supposed to shoot pods in hisec, why are they filled with meat? |

For a portable touchscreen laptop that can handle EVE and be a tablet, I have been using a Fujitsu T732 with an i5 processor. It has enough power to run 3 EVE clients at 30 FPS in space doing missions or POS work. I can get around 4 hours of playtime with the normal and modular battery running all 3 clients. The Fujitsu T904 or T734 are based on the haswell series CPU's and should get you some better performance and battery life. The T902 is a generation behind, like the T732, but has a slightly bigger screen. But all four are swivel based screens with mouse, keyboard, stylist, and touch screen capabilities with more than enough power to run EVE and other games.
Thank you for your time.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga.
Eve runns quite well, BUT Eve has NO touch support. This means if you "click" something with your finger, is will "move" the mouse, but "click" at the last position.
With a stylus it is quite ok, but forget |

Oh no - I wouldn't use touchscreen for EvE...lmao...that would end ugly. Angry Birds on my S3 back awhile ago was evidence of that!

Can confirm this works. I've got the 64gb version (not sure the install would fit on the 32) as portable access to skillqueue and market orders and it works fine. |

Android based tablet - i.e. you'd have to do some working on it to get the EvE client on it. Would need larger version too - running EvE from a sim card doesn't sound ideal to say the least. I'm interested to see where this tablet goes but because of its design - notably my work applications may not be able to be integrated on it easily - probably not a good bet. |

Anything with a HD4400 graphics chip or better will work well, HD5000+ is preferable but somewhat hard to find in the form factor. From friends using older HD4000 hardware it's workable but if you want to run eve it's not the best.
Single client runs well at 1080p on both my Sony Vaio Pro ultrabook and my father's Surface Pro 3 at medium settings (both have HD4400s and dual core i7/i5 processors, respectively). Low settings and no brackets are probably needed for massive fleet fights, but both computers run the game stably for extended periods of time. Dual client is possible at low settings in emergencies, but the experience is not that great.
Only thing is that you really need a mouse to do anything in space though. The trackpads work fine for market/production/etc work but it's frustrating to use once you undock. Touchscreen is almost entirely useless unless you make the UI massive and even then it's tough to use for anything but the most rudimentary tasks |

You'd be surprised how much actual click click, button mash, click click is involved in any PVP fight. A semi-responsive, guaranteed to be non-responsive, touch screen will not do; especially if you are terrible like me. I bought one of the Razer tablets just for Eve'ing when my wife made me attend so called "family" events like weddings, funerals, birth of my children, etc... Mercifully Amazon took the return.
Good luck with the overview. If we're not supposed to shoot pods in hisec, why are they filled with meat? |

As far as EvE goes I'm looking at missions and mining as probably the most 'graphically intensive' items - I know market/production won't be an issue on just about any tablet worth some salt. |

If it helps, I was running one of my accounts on my laptop during the B-R and HED-GP blobfests and that almost worked better than my desktop. If it can handle that, missions should be easy (gas clouds probably choke it like every other system though, CCP pls fix). Worst case you can drop resolution to 1600x900 or similar, which is still plenty sharp for a sub-13in screen.
One more thing I'll add is to not expect it to be totally silent, especially when you're undocked. The little fans need to work overtime to keep up with the load and while it's not super annoying you can definitely hear them.
Dont think you'll go wrong with the surface though, it seems very solid from what experience I have with it. |

What about a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 or 3? They run full windows 8, and I want one. Just they are a bit pricey. They can function as a tablet or laptop, and are actually good for business as well. Make sure to stay away from the RT windows tablets, they are striped down cheaper versions that will not run eve. Pro will though from what I've read online. |

I owned an Asus T100 for a very brief time.
I never installed eve on it, but you will find the touch screen laggy in it's responsiveness in general, and the removable keyboard portion of the unit is a cheaply built flimsy piece of ****.
I returned this after 6 days of use.
I would recommend taping together 4 scientific calculators and a medium cheese pizza for more satisfying results.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 runs Eve OK. I wouldn't want it as my main client but it's fine for casual mining while eating, watching TV etc.
The detachable keyboard also makes AFK mining possible while still watching local and dscan.
