Does anyone know if what kind of battleships it will be? I read its gonna be damper like ship (bigger celestis) which I hope isnt true. Caldari will get rails, so gallente should get.... missile type Battleship. Anyone from CCP can confirm that?

Caldari are getting a railbot because rails are their second weapon type (see: Merlin, Harpy, Moa, Eagle, Ferox, Vulture, Cormorant). As gallente already have ships for their 2 weapon systems (drones and blasters), a sensor damping ship does sound quite likely.
As for suggesting missiles... run. Just run.

If Gallente get a Missle ship you can have all my stuff when I quit.
Most likely it will be a Blaster/dampener ship, though for the love of god I have no idea how that would possibly work without being utterly gimped. -----

A sensor damping blaster ship is totally counter intuitive.
"Hahah I will reduce your lock range to 15km, stich that" *flies to within 2km for blasters*
They do allow you to close the distance with a bit more comfort I suppose but not my first choice.

If it's a dampenter boat it probably won't be designed for in-your-face close-range action - just fit rails on it.

Quad damp their range down to 7k, web at 10km, scram, kill. Fly it like a big Celestis or Lachesis :).

I love sensor damps an the fact they've not done weapon type specifc bonuses for ages mean it'll prolly get a %5 Hybrid Damage bonus so rail will be good.
If it is a damping boat, perhaps with a dampner falloff bonus it'll be fun to watch the forums.
"Woo my Caldari BS can snipe out to 200+ km woo" *is sensor damped" "OMFG Caldari is gimped!,NERF Sensor Dampners!"
I just better not be a Missle boat, that would be the worst thing to ever happen, maybe, prehaps slightly over dramatic.

As I see it:
Gallente has a railboat, Gallente has a droneboat, Gallente doesnt like missiles. end.
So and if we get a blasterboat they got a huge problem. it will of course be givin the 5% dmg bonus, but fallof vs. tracking would be quite a question. saying 5% and skib the tracking would kill the blasterboat anyways, and giving it a dampner bonus is just a stupid sugestion.
To make a blastership that will do better at it than the mega allready is would require a third bonus. 5% dmg, 7.5% tracking - and either 7.5% fallof or 6% less penalty for MWD. just getting t2 now tho'.
oh, nvm, never gonna happen

I suspect that if blasters weren't perceived as being "broken" (whether they are or not is a difference debate; that they're widely PECEIVED as such is the issue), the Megathron would be used far more often with blasters than rails, instead of vice versa. -------- Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk [04:21:15] Mebrithiel Ju'wien > Nik's bio 4tw btw [07:38:53] Graelyn > Nikolai for Dev 108!

The developers have said Tier III would be focused on Fleet Combat; Caldari are getting a railboat, the Gallente are probably getting a dedicated railboat too.

No missiles ffs, I want my Gallente ship to use drones and guns. So what if the ship would have a 'range' + 'damage' bonus for sentry drones + a dampening bonus? That could be interesting. 5 sniper drones + 8x 425mm rail. We won't get the uber range the Caldari BS is going to have, but we can make up by dampening.

Well, Copy and paste this baby into your EvE In-Game-Browser and click away...
http://www.eve-files.com/media/0603/ships.txt
Its showing the Gallente BS to have: - 8 high slots (8 turrets/1 launcher) - 6 Mid slots - 6 Low slots
And Im pretty sure that the overall theme for all of the tier 3 BS's is long range fleet combat, so a sensor-dampening / Rail boat would make sense, and be pretty effective aswell.
My guess is: +10% to Sensor-dampener falloff, +5% Large Hybrid damage.
In fleet stand offs, it would be like a Scorp (in the fact that it wont let the emenys obtain a lock, unless they are at close ranges) that packs a Punch (from a full rack of bonus-boosted 425's).

A falloff would be a serious waste, especially on a tier 3 ship. The thing is, Dampeners weren't meant to be effective long range, which is why they have more falloff than optimal range. Additionally, without an effectiveness bonus dampeners are more or less useless (compared to ECM). Four dampeners (mid slots) and an interceptor still has 5km lock range and less than 10 seconds to lock a Helios (this is with level 4 skills)?
A prediction for a tier 3 dampener ship is, that if anything it would have a fitting similar to 8/7/5 with 6 turrets and 2-3 launchers (although would be neat with a 6 turret and 4 launchers just to mirror the Caldari version). 5% effectiveness, of course. Preferably a bit higher, considering that it takes 3 mid slots to do any sort of dampening damage on a hostile ship - and now we're talking battleship grade, so it needs to be a bit stronger!
Then there is that last bonus. Anyone else noticed Gallente *always* get +5% hybrid damage? No need to change that tradition, really. New sig coming soonÖ By "soon" I do not necessarily mean "this year" |

Now that would be nice but redundant Unless the sensor dampner bonus can drop the range of the enemy bs to under blaster raneg then i dotn think it would be worth it , as for fitting rails the dps would be gimped beyound recognition. "What ever that doesn't Kill me just makes me stronger"

Come on! sign meh!
And why this could work without making the Megathron obsolete (based upon the 8/6/6 Tier 3 configuration)...
Tech II Ion Mega with AM ammo and 2 Damage modules = 700 dps + 5 Heavy drones (Ogres - 316 dps)
With 7 turrets, no damage modules, and no 25% damage bonus that is 380 Dps (approx +47% DPS for two modules)
Ok taking that as base, x 8/7 for number of turrets x 1.5 for the damage bonus x 1.23 for 1 damage module (1 less low slot on the Tier III) = 800 dps
So the Tier III's turrets do more damage, BUT last I checked it was unable to field a bay of heavy drones - 5x Hammerhead II's was the best achievable, which is approximately 155 DPS
So: Megathron - 700 + 316 DPS = 1016 Tier 3 - 800 + 155 DPS = 955
i.e. the Tier 3 would be a sturdier platform, but would not hit quite as hard overall, plus it has no bonus to railguns unlike the Megathron.
Give us Ze Blaster Boat!

Only one problem here, the Gallente Tier 3 at the moment has a base targeting range of 50km (compared to 72km for a Megathron), it also has a huge capactior (5760 compared to 4500 for a Megathron), not to mention it is faster than a Megathron - all in all, it sounds like a short range boat to me.
now gimme that 10% Blaster damage per level ----------

Ah. Everyone are aware that those stats are from before Tuxford's team ever began looking at tier 3 battleships?
They really should've been deleted from the database long ago. Would've saved a lot of people a lot of trouble. New sig coming soonÖ By "soon" I do not necessarily mean "this year" |

damn, i can't believe how many whiners are going "if it's this or that kind of ship i'm going to leave eve".
I mean come on, you're seriously going to balance your entire game on one little ship? I personally hope they release the worst kind of ships that everyone hates which will make some whiners leave, and then nobody will use them so it's all back to normal... in my opinion tech 3 ships = just another reason for people to whine about something.

The new Gallenet BS will only have 1 highslot an dno weapon hardpoints, but it gets 99% CPU and pg reduction for a new special module. It doens't do anythign to most ships but when used agaoinst a Raven it does 999999999999 damage and pods the Raven pilot. This serves to nerf the Rvaen without touching the ship itself, because the Caldari won't let the devs touch thei'r BBQ mobile. Overpowered? Not really a sit work only agaoinst one ship. Limited? Not really as half of the ships out there are Ravens. Please resize image to a maximum of 400 x 120, and not exceeding 24000 bytes, ty - Cortes |

Come on!
And then you have someone like moi, who will put 3x mag stab 2s, 2x 1600 plates and a named damage control on that tier 3. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Brought to you by the letter ARRR!" |

Sunetra
Maybe for you, but tbh i would be more than happy to reduce the time in which you take damage on the approach, cause that was always my problem, when i got to range I could tear most ships down quite quickly, but they had started tearing me a new one straight away. Sensor dampening so that during the 25k approach, you only take damage for even 15k of it would be a bonus imo (sold my gall char a while ago so i dont know what the stacking penalty is on sensor damps, how low can you get a ships lock range these days?)

because maybe their are other effects that would make blasters work... like the speed of locks? omg... maybe just maybe it would work... its not like you can't test it now on a dominix, moa, thorax, vexor or megathron to see if it does work... which it does if you know how to pilot a ship properly.

That means

Then the ppl. will crie some hundred rivers.
After that it will be nerfed so that the Dominix will still be the best over all BS of the gallentians.

wtf? it will be a sensordamp ship and it will PWN y0!1!11
atleast i hope so,
blasting = mega rails = mega drones = dominix and missiles arent the gallente way so we get 7 medslot damp ship, allthough 7 is crap, but i know ccp will never give gallente more medslots than caldari.
Try think for a sec.
6 slots for guns, 1 for launcher 7 slots for EW 7 slots for tanking
I bet you can see it yourself - wont happen. end.
Wowow no need for rolling eyes here (i hate that smilly ..)
when did i say it has 6 high or 7 low...
i said it will have 7 med and now go roll yourself
So, you just want 7 meds, and 4-5 for tanking and a mixed highslot setup.
Just go for a scorp
-
and for the other poster, caldari gets the railboat, would be odd to make two railboats afterall, would it not?
I dont want to fly mother******* caldari in pvp ok? And besides a bs sized damp boat that looks like sex = win
Also where are you getting this crap from, mixed highslots? You keep responding like you know the entire layout of the bs, but you dont.
5 high 8 med 5 low
Think thats pretty cool support ship , combined with a:
+7.5% to sensordamp strength each lvl.. overpowered?
no, because every caldari jam ship gets a bonus to capusage and only the scorp to strength, gallente get a bonus to strenght (else they suck to much) so some extra strengt on bs lvl (2.5% extra each lvl) isnt bad. _________________________________________________

blaster BS with 5 mid slots
mwd, web, 20km, cap booster and a grand total of ONE sensor damper. A damp bonus would hardly ever get used except MAYBE for fleet combat. If I had a Mega w/ 7 mids (4 plus another 3 for damps) would I have damps fitted? HELL NO. I'd have Multispec ECMs in there jamming the crap outta people. You need 3x damps to even use them semi-effectively, so unless the new blaster boat has 7x mids, it's going to be useless damp-wise.
Unless of course it has something like 5 mids, and gets a 1000% increase in damp effectiveness as a bonus, so you only have to fit one, and it could possibly be just as effective as a multispec in a fight. Then you might see a BS w/ damp and rails kiting other BS. Now that might be interesting =]

1) Tier 3 BSs are designed around Fleet combat.
2) 22 slots on a megathron you might as well fly a jovian shuttle.
3) ECM are retarded as is...
4) 1 damp works well on short range ships that can't fit sensor boosters.
5) You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about damp wise
6) Fleet combat doesn't revolve around you roaming solo trying to bbqh@x people because you pay 15bucks a month.

First of all damps on damp ships are sweet. Celestis and Arazu are excellent fleet ships. A BS variant with blasters, rails or missiles would be a great addition.
Second of all, noone said you can't solo in tier 3 but you won't be optimized for it in a fleet optimized ship. Sorry but if you can't understand that then what we have here is an old fashion case of the Pot Calling The Kettle Black.

Gierling just spams all threds about Gallente battleship ships with that stuff. He just ignore that it's a really bad suggestion.
He's already posted nearly the same post in this thred already.
If Gierling reads this, I'll post problems with his suggestion one more time: * Tracking is bad * Falloff will encroach on Tempest, making AC Tempest obsolete * Damage is much worse than Megathron's, regardless of slot layout. * A blaster battleship doesn't need this better cap, it was given to the Thorax because it was a weak, near useless, bonus when the Thorax was overly good. * Making a blaster dedicated ship is neither original nor does it not tread on existing ships.
If you want a good blaster ship, then it needs speed, agility, and spare high slots without losing damage (so that when it gets to range it can support additional cap use with NOSferatus). The Megathron is the ideal build, bar lack of mid slots, for a blaster ship. New sig coming soonÖ By "soon" I do not necessarily mean "this year" |

You totally ignored my second point. Why would someone want to fly what would basically be a damper scorpion that costs twice as much?

1) Who cares if tracking is worse when your target is webbed and doing 15-20 m/s? 2) incursus, Catalyst, deimos and astarte = gallente blaster boats that have falloff bonus. 3) 9.4% isn't exactly "much worse" 4) Increased cap = increased range (via mwd), less susceptability to nos and better tanking (for those silly people that active tank blasterthrons). 5) The thorax was not given the cap bonus because it was "overly good," tt's drone bay was cut in half because it was overly powerful. The thorax was better after getting the cap bonus.
I'm not saying I agree with Gierling, because I don't want a blasterboat with falloff and mwd cap bonus. But your reasoning for why it sucks, well, sucks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Brought to you by the letter ARRR!" |

We, gallante, already have a blaster boat, and the vindi is a B boat with MWD bonus. What we don't have is an EW boat with a range bonus. As such I would love a 10% boni on both damp range and effectiveness. A damage bonus would be wasted on a EW ship anyways. And, as short range ships are risky investments, if it doesn't have, say 3 points of warp core strength as a role bonus, and assuming the standard increase in price from tier 1 -->tier2 --->tier3, the t3 boat will prolly cost around 200 to 300 mill to build, it will be too much of a risk to ever fly one of those ships. Not to mention, insurance on those babies will be around 70 to 100 mill... With a role bonus to warp core strength it's doable, but otherwise, no. Just no.
As such, Plz, plz, plz let it be a pure and simple damper boat.

Well, I'm assuming it will have 1 more slot than a mega, so 7-7-6, 7-8-5 or 6-8-7 are possible layouts for a damper bs. If it's gonna have to be a damper ship, I could go for a 5% dmg and 5% damper strength with 7 turret hp and 7-7-6 layout.
Personally though, I'd prefer this:
5% max speed, 5% mwd cap penalty reduction
8-5-7, 8 turret HP
How is this fleet-oriented, you ask? Extra cap + extra speed = longer combat stamina (needed for fleet engagements) and can move between targets in a fleet faster. It does less damage than a mega (and neither of the bonuses are relevent for long-range combat), so mega will still be the king of long range and solo blaster setups (where the extra damage and tracking are more relevent, and the extra speed and cap isn't really needed).
All you want is a solo ship...
Let me get this str8...
You want less cap use from the MWD, the ability to still fit the cap injector, the ability to put in a caldari racial ECM or one of the new ECCMs proposed by tomB?
Give me a 8 launcher minmatar BS with 50% TP per level and then I will support your idiotic idea.

Edited by: Laboratus on 08/07/2006 08:11:35 Well, depending on the region, and how much big wars are being fought there, a tier 2 BS costs from 90mill(under mineral cost) to 110(usual, expected and insurance payout) to 150 (overpriced) to a finaly 300M (the only one being sold in the 3 closest regions).
If you look at the price proggressions, the price of the ship almost, with a little bit of variation to both sides(+-10%), doubles with every iteration. So the next logical price step is at around 200 to 300M.
Edit: And for the the record, these are "advanced guesses" based on the excisting data commonly available.

While I, too, hope for a dampener boat, I must say that 10% effectiveness bonus might be a mite too good (although it would be nice to have some numbers to compare with, I might do that when I've found a good stacking penalty summary somewhere). At the same time, 10% range bonus increases optimal range from somewhere in the region of 30km to 45km, and the useful-below-this-range region from 80-90km to about 100km. All in all, a range bonus won't do much good - it is like giving optimal range bonus to blasters or ACs. New sig coming soonÖ By "soon" I do not necessarily mean "this year" |

Ah, true. How about a falloff bonus? Anyways, the damps suffer atm, imho, from having a very crappy range. If you could reach out and touch someone at the same ranges as with ECM in a scorp, to 200-250km, it would even things up a bit. Don't know how much boni you would need tbh. And I thought with max skills you get t1 damps to 113km or smth. Someone do the math, I'm too lazy.

I shouldn't say dampeners suffer from lack of range, I should rather say that it is what keeps them balanced and interesting. It is well possible to dampen any ship below 30km (assuming you've got a dampener efficiency bonus of at least 5% per ship skill level and rather high level). The problem is keeping there without getting too close or too far away. At the same time, at that range blasters don't really reach while railguns do poor damage.
All in all, the low dampener range is what keeps it from being grossly overpowered like ECM is.
I rather think Gallente would build a ship that could fight as well as EWar - albeit with reduced strength in both categories compared to more dedicated ships like Megathron and Scorpion. Additionally, short range EWar would set it apart from the Scorpion and cater to the Gallentean philosophy. New sig coming soonÖ By "soon" I do not necessarily mean "this year" |

As I see it, as the damps have most of their range in the falloff range, and as they don't stop you from locking, just modify your range, they would be the logical long range system, as they are near useless in close range. The fact that the gallanteans have a possibility of fitting either very long range, or point blank weapon systems and having a med range ew system just seems dumb to me tbh. Both RP and game balance wise. What is really broken about ECM is the fact that it works on all ranges, where other types of EW only work at mid range (damps don't do squat at short range and painters and tracking distruptors don't have range. And this, to me doesn't make sense. A TP, damps and TD should be the things that drop ships from long range combat, while ECM should be the only system that is effective at short range, now it's just ECM, EMC and ECM at all ranges.)

The gallanteans already have several short range platforms. Domi (for your 2 to 3km needs) B-Trhon (if you happen to jump right next to the guy) Vindi (BT with MWD). What we don't have is a long range EW platform, gallantean style.
oh, well. I suppose getting an EW platform is out of the question anyways. RP wise, the gallanteans rely on high tech and some degree of sophisticated equipment, but it really hasn't worked out that well in the end.

MWD Bonus? Fly a Vindicator and you'll have it now... I dont think they will give the new BS Bonuses the Named Variations of Tier1/2 now have. Look at the Command Ships, something like Warfare Bonus or else is coming up, if fleet battle is the direction they go. Sort of Support BS |

If it is Dampners, it has to be a boost to Dampner range, either optimal or falloff. And a big bonus, like 10% per level.

5% per level is quite enough actually. With BS to lvl5 it gives you 25% bonus - then add the advanced RSD skill and you will have another 25%
Then you can train two skills to increase the fallof by 25% and optimal by 25%
Tier 3 BS are supposed to require good skills to pilot. Just as yu can not do very well in a Thorax with just basic skills and Gallente Cruiser lvl3 ;p
again, I think 5% bonus to scan resolution and 5% bonus to RSD range and efectivness would be a good bonus.
Many ships have two bonuses hidden in one but then they gain 5% bonus to the two areas instead of a 10% bonus to just one.

I notice this discussion is quite similar to one we had awhile back... (iirc Ithildin made a nice thread asking people to design their own tier three gallente).
I am a strong advocate of 10% to dampener falloff (5% effectiveness would be nice aswell, but I'll be ok with a damage bonus). The reason for this is twofold.
Firstly, I feel t2 ammo made fleet EW obsolete (ECM sucks at this range), so I want EW that works at this range. Fleet EW is what I enjoy (the fact that ECM is so effecive in 1v1 situations is something I consider a problem).
Secondly, from a roleplaying perspective Gallente likes to fight up close. Therefore, being able to dampen at 225km forces opponents to come close, or retreat (i.e. it fits the Gallente warfare philosphy very well).
(Naturally this ship would need adequate mid slots to be useful.)
Does it bother you that those that will come closer will rip it a new one and those that cant will just leave?

A battleship that can mount enough turrets to do some reasonable dps and have enough mids to fit tackling + 3-4x damps would be the new 1v1 king. You damp the target down to 7-8k lock range then just sit outside of it, web them, scram them, nos them, kill them.
I think a dampening ship would be very intresting however if they give it the ability to push 700 dps and give it 6-7 mids the ship is going to become the topic of coutnless whine threads for months to come.
I'd personally like to see a 7-7-6 slot layout with 5 turrets and 2 launcher hardpoints. Hybrid damage bonuss and dampening bonuss would only make sense and maybee a 75m3 drone bay.

If the Tier 3 gets an EW-related bonus as a secondary bonus that's ok, however I would not wish to see both its bonuses EW related.
Why? Because the way I see it, EW of such effectiveness should be restricted to the dedicated EW cruisers and Recon derivatives, otherwise you undermine their role. I personally don't believe (for example)the Scorpion should have ever been made into an EW one trick pony, it is still a Railgun boat in the background afterall.

No drone damage or drone HP bonuses....high slots for drone control units so it wont be another NOS platform like dominix. Can also have Sensor Dampener bonus but not really necessary....think of it as CreoDron's new BS for fleet combat.

No, I would not use this solo, I would use a megathron solo because it does more damage and has significantly better tracking. I would use this in gangs and possibly fleets and yes it gets an extra mid, but also loses a low slot, reducing it's tanking abilities. Oh, and you can have your 8 launcher min BS, as long as it gets no dmg/rof bonus. Yes. I agree with several of the posters - a double damage bonus is the key to making the Hyperion and true blaster boat.
Lets be honest - when is the last time you have fought a battle (other than the lameness that is fleet fights) at a distance further than 10k. They really just dont usually happen. So that makes the MWD bonus just silly imo (great for rax cause it has to be at 2000m, but a large T2 blaster can sting at 15k with the right ammo)
