Hello pilots!
We are working on few new overview-related features, and a first iteration will go live on Singularity in the very near future.
-You can now share your overview settings in-game! Simply open your overview settings, then drag and drop an icon into chat, and press Enter. If another pilot clicks the link, your overview will completely overwrite his/hers. The overview profiles are stored on the server, so these links can even be added to mails, bios, notepads, etc. and used later. Overview profiles are not "owned" by anyone, and once a profile is stored, anyone can access it given that they have the link. Please note that only default or saved tab presets can be shared. -New overview tabs are now created by clicking a little icon to the right of the rightmost tab, similar to how internet browser tabs can be created.
One more thing: since this is a very new feature which includes changes to how we store overview settings on the server, we reserve the right to clean out all the overview profiles on Singularity if needed (we are not expecting this to be necessary right now, but it might happen).
If you have any questions or comments, or if you can find any bug in these features, please feel free to reply to this thread.

I can see this being abused by people sharing the links as other things, and having settings that are totally messed up. Would not wanna be one to click a link that is supposed to be a contract or fleet, only to have it over-ride my overview with setting that will take me time to correct. |

Yea some security needs to be added.
Should be a way to store a "default" setting. So if someone tries to muck yours up, you can restore from default. Yes there are ways around it (sending a evemail to yourself with the default), but people won't do it.
This is cool, but definetly abusable.
Add some security as well as a way of restoring overview, and this will be great.
The easiest way by far to stop abuse would be to prevent these links from being posted in local chat.
Beyond that, a restore function would be great. Yaay!!!! |

Some of you want ability to "restore" your overview... remember that you can always create a link to your overview the way you like it, so the best way I see to do this (rather than us implementing some "restore overview" behavior) is to create a link with the overview you are happy with and store it in for example your notepad (or bio if you don't mind other people seeing it, or corp bulletins etc). You could store links to "pvp overview", "mining overview", "overview for noobs", and if you happen to override your overview with something you don't like, clicking one of those links will restore it. Hey CCP, you have a perfectly cromulent system for how to share overviews already in game. MAKE IT EXACTLY LIKE THE SHARED FITS system. PRESTO, it's super simple to use, you already know how to code it, and everyone gets the features they wanted from it.
IE: instead of overwriting whatever your current overview is (seriously, this was your idea?), it opens the overview settings window and shows the new overviews' settings. (just like a fit) and then lets you name and save it to your list of overviews (just like fits).

Can you make that automatically back up your current overview before applying the changes? I know there's a confirmation box but with such a radical change that completely overwrites everything, I think it'd be a good practice to automatically back up the settings before overwriting them.
This could use the existing export function, by exporting it as eg. YYYY/MM/DD_backup_001 or something automatically. |

Otherwise people will post, in systems with several new players (but not rookie systems) "Great overview settings! I'll check this out on the test server later but on the list of overview bugs that this does or does not fix.
Do these changes fix:
Pulling up the overview using a short cut allowed a person to change the settings but not save them. Will this fix clean up that issue.
While changing the whole overview is nice. This functionality misses out on the ability to add tab specific overview layouts as a reward for doing steps in the NPE.
Does this change clean up the tabs and generic layout conflicts in the settings tab? IE generic layouts do not populate the drop downs in the window until they are used in a saved layout. If i dont know something about EVE. I check https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/ISK_The_Guide

When starting this, I thought we had to completely change the states, so you would pick what you wanted in your overview (example: war targets) rather than what you didn't want. When looking better into it, we quickly ran into this case - I want -5 dudes in my overview so I check them -> my corp mates that are -5 now all show in the overview, not what I want

There needs to be a confirmation on overwriting current overview settings. Otherwise people will link F'd overviews as fake images or contracts in jita etc. causing people to screw up their settings. |

It needs to be overview settings (what shows up), color coding, and prioritization/enabling of classes of targets.
Just dragging what shows up, without the colors/prioritization embedded, leaves us exactly where we are today with downloaded overview packs that still requires us to "un-eff" our overview on each update/installation. |

When starting this, I thought we had to completely change the states, so you would pick what you wanted in your overview (example: war targets) rather than what you didn't want. When looking better into it, we quickly ran into this case - I want -5 dudes in my overview so I check them -> my corp mates that are -5 now all show in the overview, not what I want So (at least for now) it's the same as before, sorry if that's not ideal for you

After some testing:
Overview settings cannot be saved while in station
Having tabs be creatable in the main overview cleans up that issue and while it is click bait if you dont have 5 loaded who does not run with at least 5 tabs lol If i dont know something about EVE. I check https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/ISK_The_Guide

Give us a checkbox in the overview settings ( that is checked by default ) that says "Lock overview setting" or something like that. As long as you have that box checked, it's impossible to change the settings by clicking a link.
So, if you want to change your settings, you have to first "Unlock" the overview, click the link, and then confirm again on the Yes/No popup. |

Great stuff!
Now the overview is on the operating table, would it be possible to implement detachable overview tabs? So you could have two or more of them open at the same time. For example one with hostiles and one with friendlies, drones, or just celestials. If this would give to much lag, limit it to two or three. |

i thought a little bit about all this. I don't know how its implemented of course but i guess its very similar how killmail links work. The whole information is stored on the server all the time and loaded on demand if you click the link - having the link is like having the killmail. If its really the case CCP could easily implement a history of old overview settings (think: browser history) where the last 10 links are stored on the client.
So you not only have a backup, you have several backups and you can even switch between them any time you want. But again i am only guessing here. can this serve as an opportunity to do some major overview overhaul? some time ago on the test server, they had a short few weeks of different icons on the overview for ship types that gave a better indication of ship type, including different icons for capitals and super capitals as well as industrial ships. they were a lot easier to see and identify size at a glance. since then, no further sight has been sen of them or any indication of changes. Can these be re-evaluated and tested for usability?

Just the idea of the way these links work get my hackles to rise that is the forced label part.
I have a better solution then letting total stranger spamming you with their "best ov ewah" links.
1. only accept ov-links from the blue list (+10) 2. UI in a way of the fitting window currently works except the import/export which still after 5(?) years doesn't work consistently and fights against windows file system at every opportunity. 3. add a setting "ignore ov-setting links" for us who want nothing do with "helpful strangers" spamming links to us in eg. newbie chat.
4. i can already imagine starting a high sec gank by sending a "helpful ov-link" (to chosen target) that has conveniently certain ship types missing from both brackets and ov ... Even easier then "can I mine in my suicide gank ship right next to you" -scams or "can I transport your ship for you" - shenanigans.

That wway you could store links to many overviews like "pvp overview", "mining overview", "overview for noobs", and if you happen to override your overview with something you don't like, clicking one of those links will restore it. I think it's a bit of an ugly workaround for something which can be messed up with 1 click... What about including both?
Have an include & exclude checkmark, with Exclude having the priority. Include, will show. Exclude, will never show. And those with neither will not show up unless another parameter is met.
For example, for HS combat: Include: Wartarget, Outlaw, Suspect Exclude: Corp, Alliance, fleet etc. Neither: Pilot has no standing
If your corpmate goes suspect, you won't see him. If neutral is not a wartarget or a suspect, he won't show up. If a neutral goes suspect, he will show up.
EDIT: "Show" / "Never Show" are probably better indicators for what the switch does. |

CCP karkur wrote:We want to keep this fairly simple...
Simple?
The overview has always been a pound-head-against-the-wall part of the game.
While the value of sharable OVs is yet to be determined, I think CCP could take it a step further. I've always found the tabs & brackets combination to be counterintuitive. Tabs have always made sense. Brackets a little less so. I'd prefer to simply have tabs increase from 5 to 10, with no brackets. (Nullsec, CAP warfare, carebearing pilots might have different needs, which includes brackets... IDK.)
What I'd really like to see is an out-of-game CCP website, where one could safely modify their overview settings. All of the options would be visible on a single page rather than the small multi-tabbed in-game box. A player could click on "create new tab" and then select all the applicable boxes. Display priorities could be set, either through drag & drop like the in-game system, or by a simple numerical rank 1...10. Changes would show up on a preview overview. When satisfied, you'd simply create a name for the TAB and then save it. The player could then select which TABs he/she wanted imported to the client, and in what order.
This proposed out-of-game method of OV changes would supplement to the current in-game system, not replace it. I've read old forum posts that this was once available to players, but no more.
In general, and probably should have started with this, I prefer to have the tools to set my own overview. What CCP currently has is rather infuriating. Relying on a second party to provide me with what their version of what my overview should look like is unpalatable. |

Just a heads up: Next time we update Sisi, all existing links will be missing all the tab presets, because a tiny change we had to make.
So if you are using Sisi to practice for the AT and are relying on the new overview links to load different profiles in your overview, you might want to export those overview profiles now. Then before importing them replace the word "profiles" with "presets" in the yaml files you are importing.
(the overview you have active now should work just fine, it's just if you are using existing links/yaml files to load a new overview profile). CCP karkur | User Interface Programmer | Team Pirate Unicorns |-á@CCP karkur |

Many thanks for the hard work, especially those of you on vacation.
This will be very helpful for players new and old alike.
Not to disparage the hard work already put in, but I think it might have been a bit more appealing if these settings were imported/exported one tab at a time... and only if you have a tab free. Otherwise you are given the proposed prompt to back up that tab in case you prefer your old settings (of course it would give you the option of which tab to overwrite if all of your tabs are full).
I'd keep a tab free to check out new overviews, or for special cases where you are working with other friendly corps/alliances and all need to stay on the same page for a limited amount of time.
I'm just saying that would allow more flexibility, and I'd be more confident about accepting an overview setting that I could easily tab away from (because my vital settings are on other tabs already). I could then decide if I have a need to make that tab a permanent addition or replacement for my own settings after playing with it on for awhile.
That being said, this is a huge step in the right direction for one of the most frustrating parts of EVE game play for many people.
I think, if the truth be known, that the fear of looking stupid because your overview settings aren't right is one of the main things that keeps people from taking their first step into PVP activities... and trying to figure out all the intricacies the first time (often in a hurry) makes people just throw up their hands after a while and not bother with it at all. I've also toyed with the idea that perhaps it might be a good idea to have a popup whenever you are aggressed by someone or something not already on your overview.
A popup that does not steal focus from what will likely be frenzied activity in response to the situation, but is easy to see off to the side and a single click will add that entity (or entities) to your overview at least temporarily.
This might help when a new player is first attacked by another, or when they forget to add all the NPCs to their overview they might run into when doing a mission. If you like EVE Online and War Thunder content stop by my YouTube channel.-á

Importing an overview profile using this new method will not overwrite any previously saved tab presets (unless they have the same names - an issue we are currently looking into). This means that as long as you remember to save your presets before clicking on a shared overview profile link, you can simply load your saved presets back into any tab with just a few clicks afterwards, effectively mixing and matching two profiles.

While it's a far larger scope, long term it'd be good if the filtering logic for the overview could be changed.
So it's inclusive, rather than exclusive. Or even better, tripart logic, rather than two options.
I'd like to be able to have an overview which shows nothing but outlaws, and all outlaws. Right now, that's not possible. The moment I untick the 'no standing' box, anyone who I don't have a standing for, ceases to show up on the overview.
Ideally, something like: Show, not selected, never show
as the options.
So I could select Show for outlaws, and leave the rest unselected, and get all outlaws. But if I wanted to only show outlaws who I don't have a standing for, I could put in 'never show' options for the standing levels. Woo! CSM 9! http://fuzzwork.enterprises/

We're importing the entire settings, tab names, appearances tab, columns etc. This is way beyond the tabs. Best thing you could do is give us the ability to save our entire overview. We import another, say this sucks, and revert to the old settings. |

Or assuming I'm only dealing with this whilst perfectly safe, I might click a link in a chat window - and have the confirmation window appear. However before I click yes, I might want to just ask the person in the chat window another question... Another thought on this - I don't believe there's currently any method of configuring your overview whilst docked? What happens if I click a link in a chat or EveMail whilst docked?
Let me remind you of the fact that you wouldn't see anyone in your overview, seeing as you just clicked the overview which only has an asteroids tab spread by the enemy fleet.. The modal window just saved you |

Perhaps this is the wrong time to ask, but can a better description of the item in the overview be setup? like a hover over or something. for example just what is a "flashpoint", is a "convoy" an NPC or Player ship?
I do know some of those answers but only after lots of searching the internet and forums. it would also help in setting up the overviews. J0n Br0wn |

Nice to see stuff happening to the overview. But there's a lot of stuff to change before it's unfucked. I'm still waiting for the day when I can see just the people in my fleet without showing everyone else as well. Until then I'll just keep banging my head into the wall until the setup is good enough ^^ |

Example: Show only war targets. The states are not changing (the presentation of them is, so it's more obvious that you are picking what to filter out). When starting this, I thought we had to completely change the states, so you would pick what you wanted in your overview (example: war targets) rather than what you didn't want. When looking better into it, we quickly ran into this case - I want -5 dudes in my overview so I check them -> my corp mates that are -5 now all show in the overview, not what I want So (at least for now) it's the same as before, sorry if that's not ideal for you
so.. i've run into this issue with the current setup too... howabout a 3 state system.... (this isn't the best example, but it shows my point)
status : -5 security status : war target status : in my fleet
each status can be 'include', 'do not include', and 'N/A' (N/A would be equivilant to not carring... or just having that state being the lowest possible priority)
thus, durring a roam, i want 'in my fleet' to never show.. so i say do not include on that. but i want war targets to show, even if they somehow end up in my fleet.
now, if I sort my list by priority, and have in my fleet a LOWER priority than war target, even if they're in my fleet, a war target will show.

As someone already proposed; pretty please make it on a tab basis. The basic idea of OV sharing is ok, but most people have specialised tabs and it is far more usefull to, for example in a fleet, share a specific tab setting, rather than messing with someones complete overview. I for one have specific settings for pvp but one and the same tab for travel. The travel tab is also the "get-the-f**k-out" tab in pvp, so I don't want my settings to be messed up by someones otherwise perfectly useful settings.
We also need to be able to somehow preview settings. How on earth will you otherwise know what you getting? It's like contracts without content. We have come long way in EVE to step away from arcane blind links, or?
And finally, please, give us more tabs. We are flying capitals in space, in the only un-instanced game in the world, having fantastic battles with thousands of people involved, but our spaceship can only have 5 tabs and not accessible in station? DUH? The Enterprise crew are rotating in their graves from laughter! |

I understand adding new dialogs is a pain in the **** and make a feature a lot more complex but what about having an icon you drag to create a link which will includes all the overview settings (that's the one planned) but also add icons next to each tab profile in the ui and allow drag and dropping them too so they create a link that will add a tab profile to an existing overview configuration ?
This would not require any new ui and would allow both tab sharing and complete overview sharing. |

I agree with others, there definitely needs to be a preview option first before having to accept or dismiss the Overview Links along with a 'Revert' option.
Having to post your existing Overview settings as links contained within an Eve Mail or Notepad and then having to search for those, click and accept them just to revert your Overview back to it's original state is counter-productive, slow and tedious.
Also like the idea of being able to link a single Overview Tab.

Alt-Shift-X is the shortcut. My question isn't about that, but rather adding the functionality back into the presets, which you cannot anymore. For example, if I am scanning moons there is an additional step of the shortcut after I load my appropriate preset. Just stupid. Karash Amerius Operative, Sutoka |

Ugh, modal dialogs. Even when they're necessary, they're awful.
A couple of suggestions:
1) What if we could save sets of overview tabs and browse through the sets, and clicking a link added a set? Give them names, and then they would simply appear in the background, with some non-modal notification that "overview set 'LOL n00b" has just been added." Even if the modal dialog stays, I would love to be able to load my overview in sets of tabs.
2) I like the idea that some sort of notification would appear that you were being attacked. I initially thought, "just put them on the current overview tab, flashing red!" but there are some weird edge cases there (person gets attacked at the same time that he switches tabs?) so maybe that one is best served by some modal/centered-on-screen/otherwise hard-to-ignore notification. 1. This is a good idea, but will not be part of this iteration. 2. This is out of scope for this project at the moment, but it is something we are interested in looking deeper into in the coming months. |

wow... sharing overview settings via chat saves a lot of time and effort...
drag-and-drop into chat is what I currently do with everything else. my clients share a private channel, and it is my primary means of passing information between them.
during the mass test I found myself passing along a setting [during the engagement], with small changes along the way... it was... fluid. I started with a cloaky ECM character, whose overview needs are very basic aside from eliminating fleet clutter. I posted it into chat, then made alterations with a turret character, and posted that... then I went down the line of clients, clicking the one I needed between the two.
it was pretty ninja, and intuitive... I was impressed with it as it happened.
I did try to drop a shared setting onto a specific character's name directly, which didn't work... the characters were in identical ships & fits, and none of the other characters needed those settings, so I tried to take a shortcut. if dropping onto a name was possible, it would save the step of hitting "enter" in the text field, and then a click from the receiving client. it would also avoid requiring a shared chat channel, and exposing overview settings to everyone in it.
sending overview settings via EVEmail is a nice mass communication tool, too. I'm sure I'll use this sharing functionality in more nuanced ways as time goes on.
changing ship types (and ship roles) with a character is kind of a hassle right now when it comes to overview...
I can see myself using EVEmails (and my inbox) as a way to store overview settings according to role (tackle, logi, dreads, covops etc)...
is there a way to save overview settings to corporation? like corp bookmarks, with edit and copy roles (communications officer), etc. corporation bookmarks-style settings would be less clunky than EVEmails.
I could make use of both. you know that situation where you drop corp without saving fits or bookmarks, after simply getting used to them being available (and then regret it as soon as you undock and right-click in space to find an empty menu)... I could see overview settings being like that. President of the Commissar Kate Fanclub | Rainfleet on Twitch | Twitter | Rainfleet mk.III | Imgur |
