Recently, I asked "who runs this joint" with some targeted questions. A few of you felt my questions were suspicious and that I was fronting for a particular entity. I hope I don't cause too much trouble with this thread, but as I understand the power structures better, I need to be fed more information.
I noticed that "coalitions" are a thing (even if they are not supported mechanically in-game), and I ran into this summary of coalition strength: http://eve-dingo.com/coalition.php
I note the following active coalitions:
CFC HERO N3 Pandemic Legion Providence Bloc
While I appreciate that each coalition may have alliances/corporations that are somewhat distinct in its personality, I am going to ask about generalities of each of the coalitions. Hopefully, this will eventually steer me to an entity that suits my personality. Let's get to the questions:
1. Please describe the overall personality/vibe of each coalition 2. Who is aggressive/passive? 3. Who are considered the "good guys"? Who are the bad guys? Define this the way you see fit 4. Which coalitions are typically at each other's throats? 5. Who is most at risk of collapse? Who is expected to increase their sovereignty holdings? 6. Who is the most fun to play with? 7. If you were to pick the one coalition that you would view as the underdog who has the capability of being the strongest/most influential coalition, which one would it be?
OK, have fun with the questions. Don't get it locked on me! |

Coming from the views of someone just as ignorant as you but only knows of them through news and in my case a small stint with TEST. 1. CFC-Biggest blob, HERO-big baby blob, N3/PL - supers everywhere, Provi-resident town ***-dumpster 2. What do you mean by that? 3. baddest guys, - GRR GOONS (or so I was told), bad guys, everyone in nullsec is part of the blue donut(again I was told it existed) 4. N3/PL on one side and CFC on the other. The rest are apparently just there. 5. EVE Online published by CCP (Complimentary EVE is DyingGäó) 6. Define "fun". Otherwise I'm sure HERO will suit you as a newbie. My short stint in TEST and then HERO was a good one but nullsec and daily pos/structure bashes just aint my thing. 7. HERO.
And that's my opinion as someone who skinny dipped into null but mainly lives in lowsec. |

Nope, not my style. I prefer the underdog role, and detest those who would join the most advantaged side without earning that position.

Is it because power and influence are maintained in very few hands and you feel a null sec life is a boring waste of time?
Interesting. I would be disappointed in myself if my fate was to be an insignificant drone. After I put some time in, what would be a suggested course for a player interested in the political/alliance building game? |

Hmm, lets see.
1) CFC appears to be a very centralized organisation, with most things running through Goonswarm itself and the rest being support. N3/PL consists of more autonomous alliances with distinct playstyle that banded together to counter the CFC force. HERO is the newest kid on the bloc, with many new players, and they enjoy themselves at the moment, fighting and experimenting. Provibloc is a hybrid of Empire Space and Nullsec as its goal is to give neutral players a place to live even without being in one of the local alliances.
2) At the moment they are all pretty passive :D Provibloc is passive by default, as per rule they dont engage against other alliances sov, they are only interested in maintaining their way of life around the Provi area. HERO at the moment is Id say the most aggressive, as its the newest member of null and as far as I know the only one still engaged in offensive sov warfare at the moment. CFC and N3/PL have reached an impass which first has to be broken.
3) Goons are of course the bad guys :P Naturally, because they are the strongest so they get the most hate. Provibloc is neutral per default, HERO has a good guy vibe because of their freshness and N3 can be either or, depending on who you ask.
4) Its mostly big vs big (N3/PL against CFC) and small vs small (HERO vs Provibloc) at the moment.
5) CFC and N3 could eat the smaller blocs if they wanted to, but dont, for several reasons. Provibloc doesnt do sov warfare aggressively, however HERO wants a piece of them atm, so there will likely be at least a little change over the next few weeks/months there. The Querious region bordering HERO and CFC is still pretty much the Wild West with some russian remnants, but no one has tried conquering it yet.
6) HERO and Provi have the most fighting going on at the moment, and most Provi alliances doing Faction Warfare too on the side. Id attribute the highest fun factor to these two right now. Who to play with, that depends on your personal style.
7) No underdog right now has any chance of being the most influential coaliton as long as CFC and N3/PL have a say about it.
Hope I could help! Cheers. |

To break it down further by coalition for the CFC
Goons- Da bosses. FCON- lol FCON. White Knights of the Group SMA- lol SMA. The monkeys have alot of enthusiasm just need a direction to fling ****. RZR- Meh its RZR CO2- Not too bad. TNT- Meh they share Deklein with goons FA- Needs improvement LAWN- Mowing isk in Delve. J4LP- CFC faction warfare division
There might be others but hell if i can remember them all.
Now if your from the N3 side it looks like this
GOONs- Boss Everyone else- Pets
I like the way the CFC is ran. As a FC who worked his way up into leadership being able to go to the CFC skymarshall and tell him,"Hey you dont need my guys at ZZZZ I am moving them to AAAAA to help counter BBBB on that front."
I didnt get an answer like "RAWWR pet back in your cage." I got asked, "How soon I could make it happen."
Parts of the CFC are evolving into something dangerous. Its going to be fun to see how the next wars play out. |

1. Please describe the overall personality/vibe of each coalition
If EVE was a High School, I'd say it breaks down like this:
1. CFC - The AV nerd who won Prom King 2. HERO - The AV nerd who became Quarterback 3. N3 - The Football coach who likes to hang out with the kids 4. Pandemic Legion - That senior who smokes off campus. 5. Providence Bloc - The quiet one who is always reading a book in the corner but when you talk to her you realize she is actually insane.
