Is it or should it be bannable for people to intentionally try and drive someone from Eve?
I'm getting the feeling that a new war that's brewing (one I've been wanting to see and live vicariously through, honestly) has that as an undertone and wonder if CCP would ban anyone from either side if they tried to hurt player subscriptions.
Personally, I think a lot of immature stuff seems to be going down on both sides, but this is just viewing as a 3rd party. It's getting to be like the Middle East conflict in this corp war and, frankly, it's nauseating. I expected better from both Alliances and could tarnish Eve (which is bad) :/

I take it you are referring to BoB vs Goons.
The right war for the wrong reasons.
In this case, CCP will not interfere.

Ruthless tactics aren't a bannable offense. If someone commits an offense (or not) against a player or corp and inspires that player to ruthlessly retaliate until the user no longer uses that character or leaves eve, so long as the tactics they use are legal and within game mechanics, it's fine by CCP.
A lot of people hire mercenary corps to hound specific targets until they are driven towards abandoning their character(s) and/or quitting, or so I've heard.
Greifing brand new characters to inspire them to leave the game, however, is frowned upon by CCP and may warrant punishment.

That's a really good one line summation :/ I didn't even want to mention their names, but yeah.
I just think it's sad because the reason a lot of people know about this game are the Alliance wars. People know of BoB, people know of Goon, and this is just a horrible thing done by both sides, ingame and out.

By the laws of averages, 1 monkey with 1 typewriter would be enough, if given long enough (Probably several times longer than the current age of the Universe).
I'm probably being really stupid, but what's going on between BoB and Goonswarm, and where do I find out?

Whats this?
A bee in goonfleet made a post 4 months ago on the GF forums, which included a signature image of Smoske (Creator of evekills.com, who was run over by a truck a couple of years ago. I think there is a station named after him somewhere) apparently being run over by a bandwagon. There was an incident involving two people who were later in goonfleet making comments jokes about this 18months before goonfleet existed. That has always been used as an excuse to flame the goons when others don't present themselves. I haven't actually seen the sig in question, so I don't know for sure, but I've been told the joke was that his death had become a bandwagon for people to hate the goons off, despite the fact the jokes had occurred a long time before goonfleet existed. This was a signature image posted on the goonfleet private forums and was apparently discovered by a spy (I'm not confirmed on this one).
It was posted on the eve-o forums by a bobbit. Offending goon had roles removed and was kicked. BoB declared this "too little, too late" and vow to eliminate the goons and force them out of Eve. BoB made huge sweeping statements about how goons ate babies (or equivalent). Goons get fairly irritated that they are all getting decced because one person made a tasteless joke on their private forums which was never meant to be seen by any non-goon, and that they were apparently meant to moderate their private conduct in case spies got offended. Big forum hate war kicks off, with both sides ****ed off: lots of flaming, trolling and chestbeating. A few moderate posters on each side trying to get everyone to calm down and just blow each other up ingame, but plenty (especially goons) repeatedly making threads to smack or accelerate the depletion of the world's sarcasm resource.

How is this different than what happened to FA? Or Xetic, or Curse or any other alliance that died? Many people don't quit their corps, they get fed up with the game and just leave! Any majorly successful campaign against an alliance will cause many of their players to quit the game. This is because being sieged is boring and frustrating - some quit the alliance and some either figure that this'll happen no matter who they join or couldn't see themselves playing the game with anyone else so they just quit. Some come back much later, some are never seen again. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

How in space's name should I know? I didn't pay any attention to any of those conflicts either.
I just know that griefing players with the deliberate intention of forcing them out of the game, isn't allowed. I don't know if that's what BoB are trying to do, and I wouldn't care either way; but according to the piece I quoted, that's exactly the case here. ________________________________________________

Those wars were about killing each others internet spaceships; to a lot of people, this one is personal, and about nothing less than forcing them to quit.
Many BoB posters have a huge amount of hate coming from them (much more so than from the goons, at least in my view) over this.

I found the post via google, so i doubt a spy was needed since it was in the public section of their forum. The sig was a gif animation truck with the words bandwagon on it, moving towards (running over) a figure lying on the ground with an arrow pointing to it with the name smoske next to it, and the words 'beep beep' and something i dont remember. Anyway, this whole affair is a bit tasteless. |

Theres only so much one can do in an actual war to make you opponenets leave eve. If its going really terrible, members and corps will leave, and just the alliance name dies, so as long as its just a straight fight i wouldn't consider it griefing.
In fact even that especially memorable guiding hand social club contract that annihilated an alliance in one fell swoop isn't technically griefing, because its just warfare of another form.

I think that's the whole point. As long as someone can escape to high sec without being 'stalked' and 'griefed' there over and over again, it's fair game. (Well, the things sourrounding this war are imho be a bit ugly. But that doesn't mean, the the war is invalid.)

I read "that thread" last night that proves you are a liar, if we are to take the things Band of Brothers said there at face value.
The one that was here: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=371427
Threats of physical violence against GoonSwarm members were made by BoB members, and fully encouraged by BoB members.
And that's sick.
