Hi everyone!
Oceanus, in it's infant stages, is now live on Singularity. As some of you have already discovered, we have some tasty new graphical effects for you!
- New cloaking effect! This is currently a variable effect depending on your shader settings, but on High you will see an awesome, hex-based cloaking field spreading from a random point on your ship until you are fully engulfed, and invisible to third parties.
- New wormhole effects! In addition to the classic nebulae visualisations that you could use to predict roughly in which region the wormhole exited, wormholes will now feature new visual clues as to the upper limit of mass that they can transmit as well as new distortion and ribbon effects.
- A new LOD system! Instead of seeing ships pop-in at the appropriate detail level, they will be loaded with Low level of detail, then stream up to the appropriate level. This is very pertinent to the next point.
- The Space Object Factory! This is a radical reworking of the way in which the client loads and handles objects in space, and is currently only in use for ships. More info to come in a Devblog soon.
What this means for you: If the Space Object Factory is working correctly, then you should see no aesthetic difference in any of the ships you fly. We have had to do some minor updates to certain ships, but this system will create uniformity in general across factions and significantly increase flexibility for adding anything that affects ships aesthetically.
If you see any green Apocalypses or red Brutixes then the system is not working correctly, so I'd like to ask people to be mindful of this and please submit a bug report.
The same goes for the other changes I've mentioned.
Hope you enjoy all this amazing new eye candy! We're really looking forwards to your feedback!

Apparently the actual cloaking is delayed until the animation is complete. I'm sure this will be fixed before the change goes live. The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity. |

I haven't gotten around to the soul-crushing task of trying to find a wormhole on SiSi yet.
Testing the cloak animation is much lower-hanging fruit and as such has indeed been done.
I like it, but I have two things I want to suggest, too:
Speed up the animation. It's an amazing animation and it's what cloaking probably should have been all this time, but it should be about 20% faster. No, I'm not making a pony joke.
The second thing: Having tried out the various shader quality settings, I see how the cloak effect works. The ship fades to wireframe with a swirly white effect going around which (at high shaders) is diffused through the hexagonal "bubbles".
My second suggestion is that you cut the brightness of the white swirly bit by about half. With that, your ship (and the effect) should still be clearly visible to you (moreso than now, even) without the brightness being distracting or jarring or feeling totally out-of-place with the idea of being cloaked and invisible.
One last thing: I can confirm the appearance someone mentioned before of what seem like "glitches" in the high-shader cloak effect; bands will suddenly pop up spanning the entire length/width of the ship model (they stay perfectly horizontal irrespective of the angle I look at the ship from) and are full of rainbow hues that look completely out-of-place. |

I know that this isn't directly related to the OP, but you your title wasn't very specific. One thing I've noticed since the improved lighting was introd a few patches back (around the January time frame I think?) is that jaggies have become a lot worse. Almost every ship I've tried this on looks horrible in the new system. I have a GTX 670 running everything at max, so the likely hood of it being my system is not very high, but do you have any thoughts as to why things look so bad? |

Cloak effect: Finally, I can see my own ship, (more easily) while it is cloaked!
1. It would be nice to see a variation in the effect, for each cloak type.
2. It is very hard, if not impossible, to see your own cloaked ship when looking through it, into the Sun. Game design might not want to "fix" this... but storyline camera drones are already preventing me from going blind when looking at the sun... so... game design permitting, would it be possible to dynamically adjust the shader, when Camera -> Ship -> Sun? |

I have found a few glitched ships and a major glitch with the cloak effect overall and will be posting a video demonstrating some of them.
First off, on Shader High I do not see HEX. The only way to get the HEX effect is to turn off Anti-Aliasing.
Second, Orhtrus and Stratios are broken visually in the hangar when you make them active. There are likely more ships than just these two.
Third, if you open up your map (and chances are NES as well) while the decloak animation is running, when you return to look at space, what ever was decloaked of your ship will be there, and the rest will be completely invisible. GÇ£Die tryingGÇ¥ is the proudest human thing. |

I wondered where the "Hex effect" was... but now that I see it live, I don't particularly like it or think it is necessary. I like the revised cloak effect well enough, without the additional "hex effect." (anti-aliasing on.)
The hex effect currently is a small repeating tiled texture, layering too much order on the chaos of optical distortion, that begins the cloaking effect. I very much like the more sedate, swirling chaos that I see without it.

I'm not literally referring to the Ti-Di system, I referring to the types of fights that produce ti-di and once that maxes out at 10% and lag sets in, you know, the ones with a 2k+ local.
A not infrequent problem during those large scale fights is client lockups/crashes, particularly when your fleet lands on a heavily populated grid, or when another large fleet warps onto an already overloaded grid. Presumably a "radical reworking of the way your client loads and handles objects in space" would be highly relevant to those issues. |

It absolutely should not!
The TQ animation is way faster than the actual delay before dissapearing on the overview of others. This new animation, aside from being HOLY ******* COOL, is also more in-line with the gameplay behind cloaking.

I've been lusting after better wormhole visualisations since Apocrypha came out. The fact astute people can tell roughly what region they go to felt like a rewarding progression in w-space life. I really LOVE the idea that we have to learn where wormholes go from visuals alone, without hand-holding "show infos". In fact, the less information available on it the better. |

I myself is running with a Gigabyte 780, 1ghz clocked version, on a 2560x1440, resolution screen. Usually i'm hovering at the 60 fps mark, on all other situations, than in sites, where i sometimes dip below 20 fps.
There was some talk, a while ago, that a button could disable smoke, but appearently it didn't make it past QA.

I'll disagree on the animation speed. I love how slow it is.
Totally agreed on making the ship more visible with lower brightness. Right now the "cloaked" effect is obnoxiously visible. Tone it down closer to the old one (in brightness, not in complexity/style) so we actually feel less visible rather than highlighted. |

I sorta agree. I think that currently the effect is too pronounced. Perhaps during the transition it has bright hexes, then when you're fully invisible the effect damps and softens, lowering brightness and muting the hexes. |

Yes, please iterate on this effect: the hex cell size is very small, and the chromatic distortions do look something like "bubble wrap." If the art dept is set on this hex pattern, versus some other shape or no hex overlay at all... please try increasing the cell size x4, thicker cell borders, spacing... brightness variations like Harkin suggests. I think the swirly animation layer below the hex grid overlay is interesting enough on its own, as I wrote here. Please inject some more chaos and randomness, break up the pattern :) |

The hexagons are not affected by the distance to the ship that's cloaked anyway. Just like an effect fixed to the top level of the screen being a mask applied to a cloaked object where the underlying cloakiness is an animated and semitransparent texture which replaces the standard one (set shaders to medium/low to hide the hexagons to see that one).
I panned and zoomed out/in while recoding this GIF, you'll notice there's no change to the size/position of the hexagon. EVE Infolinks -+-áOld and new-áPortraits |

Yeah, I flipped out, threw my coffee, shouted at a bunch of people and began to weep in counterpoint to my teeth gnashing/shirt ripping/hair pulling episodes. Then someone mentioned that this isn't final and changes are still being made to the effect which will increase low and medium shader setting visibility and adjust the high settings version as well.
But I would be remiss if I didn't take this opportunity to thank you for your continued observations and calm reactions.
Also bonus credit to anyone pleasantly noting that this is not a functionality change for the cloaking mechanic, just a graphic one for the cloaking effect.

The new cloaking effect is even much better than on the first sisi build. I notice that when you deactivate the cloak, the hexes change their shape immediately even though the cloaking effect takes time to fade away. But at least now you have some instant visual feedback when your ship decloaks.
I think more would be better, that is, a decloaking effect that is way faster a more spectacular. After all, when you cloak, it takes time to dissapear from other's overview, so it makes sense to have a slow effect. But when you decloak, you reappear instantly! Thus the decloaking effect should be faster too!
Like in some movies! The ship takes time to cloak, but when it decloaks to make a surprise attack, its instantaneous. Signature Tanking - Best Tanking

The Pilot of the cloaked ship can see the animated texture from the first build (and the hexagon overlay) all the time. Third Parties never see the animated texture, only the hexagon overlay (first) and transition effect of the current build, during cloak activation/deactivation of other ships.
That way, both pilot and third parties should experience no hard visual change during the transitions. EVE Infolinks -+-áOld and new-áPortraits |

P.S. Are hexes proportional to the model size? From the videos i've seen it seems that they scale with maximum zoom level... for lacking better words. It is a bit, well, strange, but if a single hex held uniform size across hulls... i guess a titan would be covered with way too may of them. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4259327 - more suff in the Zero.Zero collection |

Funny Story (More Funny Oh and not so much Funny Ha Ha):
This is not actually a bug so to speak.
The CreoDron Corp and color scheme have always been green in concept (note the hue of the logo...approved by old Ceul Darieux himself, no doubt), but have crept toward blue bit by bit over time with lighting changes and alterations in our processes. With the new SOF feature, we are finally displaying them as the designers originally intended.
So, one: Thank you! That is exactly the kind of thing we're looking for.
And two: This is not that thing. |

The annoying waves on the cloaking effect are back. They are a bit less ugly than before, but they are still far too visible. I'm pretty sure that reducing their opacity to a quarter of what it is currently wouldn't prevent the player from seeing his own ship (which seems to be the point, especially since the ship was visible even without waves), and it would definitely make the cloak effect prettier and more realistic.

I say that would be a texturing problem and when you undock it forces to the client to reload the ships textures. But I'm just making a wild guess. |

A few things.
- can we have a slider to reduce the cloaking effect ? Because it looks cool but if you live in WH space u are cloaked 90% of the time so I will now be playing cubed online. A slider to lessen the cloaking effect would be the best of both worlds. (we still have the cloak active : green glow effect on the module button). Not trying to hate just want to see my ship rather than jello. I do like the transistion efffect.
- With the new wh graphics . Do you still see the wormhole flash when a ship enters / exits ? Making it more prominant with the new swirling graphic would be awesome.
- Thanks for the new WH nebulas ! Are the new nebulas keeping the same WH class colour scheme ? If so please consider a new scheme for C3s. washed out pink = horrible. And keep the brightness down.. (no giganitic over bright suns) remember people live there..
- someone sugguested a new WH jump effect.. similar to K space. God no.. If you do ever plan this just make a graceful transition...not a camera swirling, nauseating roller coaster.. its really not fun after you do it a couple of times.
thanks for giving WH space some love. |

I'm sorry, but I don't like the new cloak. The size of the hexes are not relative to the size of the ship, but rather are fixed to the camera, so zooming out will have your ship covered by five hexes, while zooming in will cover it with thousands.
Trinity cloak still best cloak. |

Cloack effect should be quicker, also should have a secondary effect that just pop when cloack is activated and deactivated for better showing current state (so no more troubles with deactivation cloack because effect was late and i wasnt sure if cloack is on - especially important for passing gate camps.
Also effect should be liquid not hexes |

I play both TQ and SISI back to back a lot of the time - and I initially thought that the new cloak would be very nice, but then I used it a bit and when side to side with the current on TQ - for game play, I have to say I like the current one better - it's just not all in my face, like the new one is.... for a "cloaking effect it's certainly not stealthy looking in it's iterations... my provblems with it are as follows:
1. it's loud (visually) it doesn't need to be so, it's supposed to represent a ship becoming invisible, and sneaking around... this effect as it looks more like some kind of sci-fi super-armor shield or something, rather than a cloaking effect... with cloaking effects, less is more.
2. the hexes are horrible, why hexes? - it looks like bubble wrap or snake skin... which I really hate the look of on anything, accept maybe snakes... but even then it looks weird... -1 on hexes at all.
3. I do like the misty effect alone, that was kind of nice...
4. the cloak de-res, or whatever you call it is to much also, I like the effect, but I think it's too white/bright as someone said, why is it white.... space it black.. shouldn't it be black or something like that --- at least much less bright?... and it should start always at the front I think....
Look at all the Macks in local...impressive...very impressive...I see you have fashioned a new exhumer...much like you father's...your skills as a miner are now complete...indeed you are powerful as CCP Devs have foreseen. |

after finally finding a wormhole I saw a annoying graphic, when looking at the wormhole from distance while my ship is behind the wormhole, everything looks fine (pic)
But if the camera is between the wormhole and the ship, the 2D animation becomes a circle (pic) (pic 2)
Will the grapic stay like this?
Also for other wormhole dwellers, I an sitting on a C5, it looks like a minmatar lowsec, so all the wormhole colors will probably get changed |

For me I really like most of these changes bar the nebulae changes. I get they are high resolution and look clearer, but they are all washed and look similar between C1 and C4 (And arguably C5s too.)
I really enjoyed the difference they currently have, C1s having a nice greenish/blueish hue, C2s having a blue hue, etc. They were all easy to distinguish and they just seemed rather nice. I can understand if some things in wormholes were just simply to bright, and sure it could be dimmed down a bit, but everything feels more murky/boring/similar with the new changes. The new nebulae seem nice in terms of design but maybe you can turn up the colors and the brightness a bit.
The wormholes themselves are really cool looking though 8) |

The new cloaking effect is impressive but if you let the triangles effect before the complete transition ;
The multicolor prism effect from the transition line don't have a good look on these triangles.
Each + or - 45 seconds with cloak, the triangles visual appears for 3 seconds, look like the ship starting to uncloak. Is this intentional ? |

Yes, that is intentional, the cloak "recalibrates" at regular intervals. CCP Myrkur | Senior 3D Artist-á| Team TriLambda |

if we must have bubble wrap... can you please:
1. make it not stay the same size when you zoom in and out - so that my ship doesn't go from 1000 bubbles (which isn't bad) to 3-4 of the same size when I zoom out... that is annoying on the eyes... and looks crappy... so:
Please have bubble scale with ships in size and distance.
2. could you adjust whatever so that when uncloaking they (bubbles/hexes) don't turn "flat" just before uncloaking... this looks really horrible.. they shouldn't transition to some kind of 2D image like they do now.
3. could you adjust the breaking up when in front of some lighting effects - that looks really bad... often the offender is anything large and bright behind it... includeing engine fire on ships...they seem to be come all distorted and broken in some weird way.
4. return to the de-res effect prior.... the simple line movement is crappy - the previous "ocean spray" kind of effect was much better... you took that out and left the hexes, which imho would have been better the other way round.
Also, could you not use this for jump gate effects - it's over kill on every jump... after taking a 40 jump leopard run, my eyes had seen enough of over-kill effects and I set my card to medium, which is just the clear/mist effect of the ship model - that was much better - I could still see the ship plainly, but it looked cloaked... and the transition was much easier visually to have to look at every couple seconds. Look at all the Macks in local...impressive...very impressive...I see you have fashioned a new exhumer...much like you father's...your skills as a miner are now complete...indeed you are powerful as CCP Devs have foreseen. |

Ok now a different cloaking visual for stargate jump than the cloak module use, interesting.
The transition effect with flat hexagones or triangles aren't so bad, just the border between each of them need to be a bit polished.
The multicolor prism effect during transition look ugly when the zoom-out offer less geometric form number. And on zoom-in larger effect can be better. |

EBR-23803 is more severe than I thought so I'll post about it here too. If you set LOD to low and zoom out just enough that you get the lowest detail model, the cloaking transition happens at about 1 update per second. Yes seriously, ONE update per second. It looks absolutely terrible and surely can't ship this way. |

Ok today the cloak module have exagones.
Cloak stargate jump visual
- No triangles alignment, it's perfect
- Colored prismatic effect during transition diseappear, it's good.
- Transition have horizontal lines on the whole ship length, without that it's good.
- Translucend effect at complete cloak show horizontal line on each prism, it's ugly.
Cloak module visual
- Completed cloak is perfect
- Exagones border during transition can be good if softened.
- The horizontal and vertical lines on exagones for the colored prismatic effect during transition aren't looking good.
Suggestion for the cloak module visual
- Colored prismatic effect during transition can be removed or just be an oil effect following the white border.
