The problem is once you are in a station, you might as well be in a different system altogether as far as 'seeing' is concerned.
It's like how dust interacts with the rest of us: They are in the same chat channels and can access the market, but they aren't actually 'there'.
It's a fundamental design flaw, and it was one of the reasons POSes were designed the way they were, CCP wanted to experiment with noninstanced station concepts.

TBH I've often thought it would be pretty awesome If you could sit in front of the screen and watch the undock.
Imagine sitting in Jita or Tama and watching the shenanigans outside.
Thinking about the possibility of this, you would only need one camera view from a specific place near undock and mode could be entered where the view becomes full screen - almost like you have undocked, but not really. This could be entered by walking towards you captains quarters screen and clicking as you would character remodelling to give a new view.
If this were worked on I'm sure the camera perspective could be tweaked to give a true feeling for the size of the ships outside.
Well we can dream. |

In Dust, you can see a planet in the 'lobby' so in theory it is possible.
The technical answer is, it was prolly one of the decisions that was made when they scrapped ambulation for WiS (no they are NOT the same thing) my guess is, one of the other environments on the other side of the door they were planning to bring has windows. But they would not be real time.
My honest hope, is there is a secret project being worked on, that will make it feasible to link valk and legion and eve in the future. as people have mentioned, eve 2. But right now I don't think its technically possible, and as WiS is on indefinite hold AFAWK, its not gonna change anytime soon.
Why I think there is a secret and or several really large projects in the works, is due to the recently expansions, they all seemed light, which would indicate for a game with around 100 or so devs that there are prolly several teams working on something that's not ready yet. And the six week cycles adds to that. But i'm fantasizing.
Anyway, you will not have a window until they re green light WiS. OMG Comet Mining idea!!! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=331766 |

Brain in a box may alter this. But yea, legacy code. It made sense at the time since it meant that docked people didn't add to system load. If they did Jita would lag a lot lot more. |

Because somehow small groups of trolls in their parent's basements can make hundreds of hours of excellent Skyrim content AND even make Skyrim look better than real life.......but CCP is just happy that they figured out how to make a spaceship a different color without changing the name......that's why. Hundreds of hours on linearly scripted themepark content in a single player game with a RNG table is not the same as a sandbox MMO. The fact you somehow think the two even remotely equate.... |

It would not be completely unthinkable to allow for a d-scan result originating from the station. The server could simulate a single "player" per system from which to load a a d-scan result for everyone that is docked periodically. I do not know if the data being trasported during a d-scan request contains enough metadata (angle, velocity) to simulate it visually though.
Another option would perhaps be to create a "spectator mode" in which the space environment loads from the perspective of the station. Unfortunately that would probably lead to extreme server load as many people would keep tabs on a hub's undock, and sit in that mode constantly. On the other hand, everyone in a system could potentially undock so I'm curious how much of a bottleneck it would be. |

I actually am for WIS but I say this is bad because one compromise I have in mind for WIS is to separate the inside local from the out side local. Personally I cant see why a station would give you up since your coming there to spend isk. After we get WIS, a generic window, fine. Actual view of the outside? no, i dont see it. To much server load. |

Easiest way to create something like this would be a station service that gives you a 250km directional scan around the station for ISK. Pay for every refresh. I am sure it would amount to a good ISK sink even if the fee would only be 1000 ISK per scan. Sovereignty and Population New Mining Mechanics |

A single, fixed position, remote camera view on the CQ TV would make more sense, could be similar to getting a feed on the ingame browser. |

This falls under the same reasoning that our ships can't automatically refresh it's scanner.

Yeah, but then they haven't even got the scanner tech stable enough that it actually runs every time you ask it to |

Station environment is different but the client can still access information as far as I can tell. Why not access information from station than you currently cannot ? I think it's just a case of trying not to add things in that would potentially make another part of the game obsolete. It's a fair topic to bring up because the effects of that aren't necessarily that obvious. 12. Mentioning Trolls or Trolling in every post you make is prohibited.
