My current BS's name is GCU: The Grey Area. Anyone who's read Iain M. Banks' Excession may remember what the other Minds called it. |

Good name, particularly if you're into pod-killing. The ships in the Culture novels had amazing names, and it did cross my mind to name my ships after some of them. In the end, I decided on items from The Lord of the Rings. Hence fighting ships are generally named after swords - Glamdring, Orcrist, Anduril, Narsil etc - mining ships after Dwarf-related items - Mithril, Khazad etc - and my Thorax, which I personally think is the most attractive ship available, is called Silmaril - it's my own personal shining jewel.

I name my ships based on what I am thinking about at the time. For instance, I have a 'rax series called Escaflowne (from the anime of the same name), and a Brutix series called Shinigami (from an anime called Bleach). My Itty I series was called Happy Hauler after I got ganked in lowsec and decided I wasn't going to be one of the many whiny *****es that inhabit this forum. My Itty III series is called Camp Runner, as that is what I do with them most of the time.
As you may have inferred, I also keep ships names, but based on location and use, so for instance my latest Empire 'rax is Escaflowne VI or something, but my 0.0 one is T-Rax III.
I also keep a full record of all the ships I fly and what happened to the predecessors in my bio. ----------

I name my ships what I feel like at the time. For instance I named my Stabber 'iwannabeafrig' and my cheetah "iamnothere" I also tend to stick roman numerals after the ship to show how many ships of this type I have lost in the game. For example My NPC/mission Vexor is the 'Tigers Fang V' as I have had 4 others blown out from under me. (the name is a mangling of ther Wing commander carrier name) When I get a new PVP vexor it will be the 'Concordia III' and so on. My mamoth is called the Kobioshi Maru.. and anyone whos seen star trek 2 will spot the reference

Since I'm a huge geek, I named all of my frigates after areas in the Metroid series, with a number tacked on the end depending on how many of them have blown up.
Executioner: Phendrana Punisher: Crateria III Inquisitor: Maridia Kestrel: Tourian Rifter: Norfair II
Unfortunately, the very best name of all (Brinstar) would seem weird on this character, given how her first name is Brin. :P

I also name my ships (when I'm flying them long enough that is). My cormy is called Peashooter MkII (MkI was my first Merlin). My ferox is called Peacekeeper I v2 (version wasn't good enough, so I let it be destroyed /sigh) The Raven is Peacekeeper II and I got a Carrot Miner and a Carrotteer to stay in character

Edited by: TiraX on 30/08/2006 22:13:45 Yeah name them like this
TX-X-Y-Z "name"
I = industry C = Combat Fr = frigate Cr = Cruise BC = battle cruiser etc
something like TX-C-BC-1 "Ferox"
At first I thought it would be a good way to search for ships. But then I noticed that you can't search for your name. ----

Edited by: Serenity Steele on 30/08/2006 22:54:50 I use animals/fish/birds that look like the ship, and give roman numerals so I know how many I've lost.

Yes, I name my ships. Usually give a new name for each class/hull and another if I do something comepletely different with a fitting, but just add a number after the name when I loose one and replace it.
