I'm seeing some 15-20fps avg increases over current TQ build in the belts and system to system travel in the 4557 patch.
it's even more noticable at hi-resolutions like 1600x1200. also looks to be about 5-12fps gain in missions with large spaceports like the sansha oupost in massive attack i think it is..
warping or idling in a belt uwsually gives me about 75-80fps, now i'm seeing 95-109. a structure intensive mission with rats is usally 35fps, now its up to about 45fps...
nice little gains.. anyone else experiencing a minor bump in fps at the high end?
-good job ccp :)

alot of crappy code has been replaced and deleted. junk and unused code has also been deleted. then there is optimizations and improvements in dragon. with all this combined it should run alot smoother and better.

you are not the only one, I have noticed faster loggins and smoother gameplay overall, which is really quite nice to have :) havent been looking at the sound engine though, has there been some tinkering in that area as well?
even if not, still nice preformance boosts :) __________________________________________________ This shall be the one thread, the one thread to rule them all, and in the Spamness bind them. - Ductoris |

Yea, and the market seems to load much faster now too. I wonder if you still get load lag of death when you hit a grid with a big pos on it though?

Edited by: Roderick Blaine on 23/08/2006 22:15:57 I see a good improvement too while using two clients on a dual display system with a 7900GT and a P4-3.4GHz. One client is running at 1600x1200 and the other in 1280x1024. Both in window.
Before it was: The active client had 45-65fps, the passive client had 32 fps.
Now I see: The active client has 60-80 fps, the passive one has 50-60 fps.
Maybe its time to try out "interval immediate" again. Before it happend too often that the fps drop down to 15fps with two clients. Now both should be able to be stable at at least 30 fps. (which is definitly enough for EVE and which leaves more CPU power for python code)
I also noticed that stopping the music gives you an additional 5% boost. It seems that setting the music volume to zero does not stop the music implicitly.

aside from the crash tonight (which is being looked into as i type) i have seen and noticed a massive improvement on the nodes and proxy servers. i was running tests on sisi for the last day or so and i was hoping for a small improvement. what we got on TQ was much better, almost shocking infact

FYI, putting bp's into build is very sluggish after the final stage. It can take 20s or more before anything is selectable.
Also, builds/research cannot be seen when in the next region, and there is no info to say how many free factory slots are left. If I build/research in region 1, fly next door to region 2 then I can't see my jobs. So I can't see when they finish, or if they have already finished, or work out how many slots I have left.
Apart from that it looks great.
Thanks for all the hard work.

so a quick question with dragon to kali - is the new underlying code pretty well ready to go straight ahead and just have kali lumped on top of it or is there more underlying recoding t be done

I'd like to say that the fps boost seems to apply to those playing under Linux as well. I can now put off buying a faster cpu and pay for my next six months of EVE instead. Good work CCP. :)
I have noticed a 10-18fps increase in station and in space a 5-24fps increase on my amd 2400+, 1gig ddr400, 6600gt box running Cedega 5.2.5 and Wine 0.9.19 (w/ EVE patches) under Debian Sid-current.
On the down side the screen freeze problem looks like it may be back though I was only been able to play for around ten minutes last night so I can't confirm that. I will post more details later.

Congratulations! As a developer of old code (over ten years and counting for me <g>) I can appreciate how it feels when you rip out some old code and see performance or stability improvements.
The best boost I saw was several years ago when I removed a delay( 1 ); that one of my colleagues had left in by mistake. Our disk imager ran with that for nearly two months. Our poor IT staff spent ages trying to work out why the network was running so slowly as well.
Ah yes. Happy days -- (Battle hardened miner)

The gfx speed was improved alright.
The next thing that MUST be improved is the overview. When you see 50 targets on the overview you have every 2 seconds extrem lag. When you minimize the overview the lag is gone.
That proves that a small list of 50 items shown in the UI which is updated every 2 seconds kills eve. That is not net traffic or gfx as these 50+ ships are visible and the data was sent to the client. This is only the code that manage the UI table for the overview. Its the fault of this small piece of code for many bad game-play experiences, especially in fleet battles.
Please have a look at this for the next eve-client patch.
