It makes little sense to me. The primary issue with BM are they reduce vulnerability time.
Also if you added this feature then why not just get rid of bookmarks altogether. Its sort of silly to implement a fix for a workaround thats aimed at negating a mechanic. Why not just adjust the mechanic that inspired the fix and then you wont use any DB space at all.
I vote No.

I vote yes..
Like some one said, have all the travelling ones as Corp BM's.
Maybe we will need personal ones, of Cans etc.. but at a greatly reduced numbers.
This will also help, incase your client screws up and all instas are in one folder!!!

I do hope the devs would remove instas permanently in some way ( moving gates and what not ), so in that sense I would vote No.
The idea is alot better then the current situation though, so I endorse this thread

<3 the Corp BM idea, it gives Corps an advantage in their own territory as they should have really. You could always restrict BM's for corps to systems with sovereignty.

Why donŠt they nuke the Insta DB is beyond me..The instas produce lag,the instas produce insta invulnerability and i dont see anny of this problems addressed in "weirda" solution.
So i Vote NO .

is the itemID problem true surely there are many other ways to fix sql server problems like this than by changing the game
using guid's to just name one.

Why not extend this even more and store one perfect insta for each jump (collectable from a can next to the gate?) server side then you would only need to keep track of which players or corps owned which bookmarks.

I posted about this here but didn't seem to get much support or feedback.
Keep this thread bumped, and get support. I still beleive it's a very viable, easy solution to a huge problem.

I like the idea too, but I feel that Warp to 0 km is a better option. I mean, with this system, everyone in a big corp will have instant bookmarks for travel. How many does that really leave out that doesnt have bookmarks?
Just introduce the warp to 0 and get it over with, possibly in combination with this fine idea.

I like this idea. It'd also help out new members, and remove some of the overhead of getting someone set up.
I'd also suggest that an alliance should get automatic 0km bookmarks for any gates, stations, or POS's used to claim sovereignty for that alliance in systems where they hold sovereignty. They're probably going to have most of those anyway, so rather than even store the bookmarks at an alliance or corp level, just add a '0km' option on the 'warp to' menu in those systems.
Lastly, I'd add that corp/alliance bookmarks shouldn't be able to be created in systems where someone ELSE holds sovereignty. It'd be too easy to have one guy in a covert ops go make bookmarks straight to an enemy stronghold, and have the entire alliance have all those bookmarks the second they log in.
In neutral territories and empire, I think this is great. ---

While it is basically a good idea, it does have some problems:
1. For it to function correctly, people should not want to retain their own copies of said bookmarks. If leaving a corp or alliance means losing all associated bookmarks, then people will still retain their own for security. Most people don't stay in one corps for their whole Eve career. This means that people will still want to hold on to their personal sets.
2. It should only include travel bookmarks (insta's) and not safespot bookmarks, mission bookmarks etc. otherwise it would generate to much clutter and confusion.
3. A complete travel-bookmark set will (of course) become a must-have for any corp/alliance. Considering the number of corps in Eve and the current cost of bookmark sets, within a relatively short time span all medium-size and large corps will have insta's for all regions, effectively enabling members of those corps the 'warp to 0km option'.
This means that new or smaller corps will be at a significant disadvantage against large or established corps, because they don't have the time/isk to build up their own library.
If corps cannot copy and add bookmarks to their own library from other sources, the gap between new corps and established ones will grow even bigger.
And if a corps splits up, who gets the bookmarks?

Edited by: Twilight Moon on 25/08/2006 12:12:08 Its a great idea, the Corp BM's.
It also gives people more of an incentive to leave the "Newbie Corps" as there they wont have instas. Also, means that peoples ALT scouts, haulers, etc, will have to join a player corp if they want to use instas....and in a PC, you can Dec 'em.

That defeats the whole point of the exercise. Corp BM's AND Player BM's wil just use up even more ItemID's.
...on the other hand using a banana might be a viable alternative.

I agree, but, for example, if I'm thinking to start my own corp in say 2 months time, I sure won't give up my bookmarks, that would be stupid. If I'm new to a corp, and don't know yet if I'm going to stay with them for long, I won't give up my bookmark. If I think there is a chance my corp will fall apart (war, internal dissension, CEO and high-ups quitting), I won't give up my bookmarks.
Maybe you feel secure in your current corp/alliance, and think you will never leave, nor will it ever cease to exist, that's great. I am just pointing out that not everyone feels that way.

I agree with the Warp To 0 option. Then there is no reason for "travel" bookmarks (I would hazard to guess that those account for 90%+ of the bookmarks ingame), and would return bookmarks for what they are supposed to be...marking places of interest (safespot, that can you left in space, etc.) I would delete nearly all (probably 99%) of my bookmarks if this option was ingame. ------------------- |

I've got an idea, remove all bookmarks in the game, remove the ability to copy them. Everyone has to make their own bookmarks.

Not if you have a limited number allowed.. like 1k, or maybe 2k.
Is it hard to store bm's client side with heavy encryption? Like having 20k of them but allow only 1k active at any given time. You can refresh your active ones at any time from local stock.

CorpBM's is one way.
But I think 0km warp, delete all instas in the same grid as stations/gates and introduce new ways to interdict (new warp bubbles, warp innauracy bubbles, warp coils, etc.) - some of which are useable in Empire, especially against war targets...
...is a better and a longer lasting soloution.
Oh, and forcing people to recopy BM's if their account's been inactive is a very good way to prevent more casual players from returning.
Pesadel0, ahh, STILL the invulnerability propaganda. "Partial protection", and you know it.
Boonaki, if by "problem solved" you mean "people can't make BM's where they actually need them in most cases so is very little different from removing them entirely, but helps alliances at the expense of everyone else as well", yea. The 0.4 transits and the 0.0 entryways WILL be slaughters which push people into highsec.

Meh. 1) I've seen all over the place, 2) would be nice but sounds like it probably isn't feasible, at least not without removing the ability to trade BMs at the very least, and 3) is going to act as a pretty big disincentive for people to resubscribe, even putting aside the fact that BMs aren't just used for instas (you run out of money for a month and lose the location of your secure can stash, for example). Maybe I'm being overly negative, I dunno :P

great idea for 2 reasons:
1) doesnt change the game, yet addresses problem
2) can be implemented right away, with no one needing to whine against it.
downsides:
1) not a "permanent" fix, although I cant imagine wed get the BM's back up to current level quickly when they are shared.
2) It doesnt stop people from having personal sets....people would have to pool them then delete them to make it work....and who would really delete BM sets, never know when you might move corps. might make problem worse...people would pool to get most complete set to everyone, and then NOT delete...although new players might not collect the personal set...so maybe problem just levels off?
