...to be accused of being sexist for wearing that shirt should get a formal apology from women all over the world.
Because if feminist movement steeps so low as to accuse that man for being sexist just for wearing a silly shirt while landing a ******* probe on a ******* comet in the ******* ******* of space then it clearly has completely forgotten what feminism is about. Women who rallied behind that stupid accusation are the very cause of why feminism is viewed the way it is viewed, and bring shame to us all.
Respect to that guy and his team and their work and for advancing the human knowledge of space. He had to present a public apology in tears on the day that probably would have been the single most greatest day of his life!

Yes there are a lot of people who play the sexist card for no good reason.
Anyway, I am not sure this is the right forum for this kind of discussion.

FYI - Just posting here (in general discussion) to raise an exclamation mark on the subject as personally I believe a great wrong has been done to this man. A scientist and space-geek, a man who's work might probably allow the generations to come to better understand their place among the stars!

:)))) good one
I think because most of them identifying themselves as feminists actually have no idea what feminism is about and simply rally behind that banner because probably past negative experience. A feminist for example would not want EVE online to be renamed ADAM Online - he or she would want it to be named ADAM & EVE Online - get it?
Anyways, EVE is not under scrutiny here (and I personally never felt discriminated while "in the pod"). This is about that man who was dragged through the mud while trying to make us all smarter. I guess "ad astra per aspera" is true in his case...

I think you missed the idea. I'm not carrying any torch I just wanted to bring the matter into attention to a community that loves sci-fi and all things space-related.

As a woman it will be a bit difficult to hate women, however at a certain level all women hate other women, I guess... it's hard to explain. I don't hate women - if that's all you got from my initial post - I just think that the feminists that rallied behind the "public beating" of that man did a very insensible and baseless thing, did not research the matter and as a result made the feminist movement look even worse.

the man acknowledged a wrong and now a bunch of angry internet dorks can't respect his apology and move on
mr ed thehouseofed wrote:his wife made the shirt apparently
yeah this part's a bit awkward. i can imagine that if this is true, he wore the shirt to please his wife, which is sweet. we can acknowledge a person's intention is different to the message sent. it's not about labelling the man or diminishing the achievement of the day. this is something that some people refuse to understand |

after 20 years of preparation and 10 years of spaceflight, they landed a probe on a tiny comet with near to zero gravity.

For the record I like the shirt.
We have chemical engineers at my job who wear all manners of things that are probably inappropriate. Nobody who might care actually sees them because these guys are in and around equipment all day. Now, what if a woman joined their team and was exposed to these things daily? I think it depends on the woman, and the woman I know from the legal department who works with them doesn't find it to be an issue of sexism. But I have to wonder. What if another woman got uncomfortable? Would she have a legitimate gripe? Might this hypothetical complainer blow things out of proportion?

One dude, dude. Just one. If there were others, then you certainly do have a different way of thinking than a rational human being might if you're suggesting that such a population sample is representative of the entire population.
I don't really care much for feminism. Up until I was 15, I didn't even know discrimination was a thing. When I first heard about it, I was appalled.
But as long as the girls I know are still talking about Brad Pitt like he's a sex toy, I'll be damned if someone wearing a shirt with some cartoon women on it is something worth 'criminalising' a person with a mind that's contributed to the scientific and academic community more than ten times that of his accusers.
