well the fact that they are denying new players access to insta bookmarks, is pretty unreasonable.
i say remove them.

Warp to 0 does not solve the gameplay issue of industrial ships and BS being almost as fast as interceptors when travelling.
Make it 5km and then your probably only going to copy the BM's you really need and not the whole universe. Will also differentiate between faster and slower ships.

Edited by: Serenity Steele on 30/08/2006 12:25:08 Instas are highly controversial no matter how you look at them.
Personally, I'd like to find a way to replace the riculous time managing, copying and organising the cursed things (lost prefs anyone?).
IMO The best solution I've heard, to date, is a module to improve accuracy of warping that requires no special skill eg. use the existing warp drive operation skill.
Even give the module an 'ammo type' that is specific to the region you're in would be better than the controversy now.

What I would like most of all is an answer from CCP as to how much stress bookmarks are putting on the server.
Depending on that, the required speed and severity of measures can be assessed better than when we're just guessing...

Edited by: Mss Alt on 30/08/2006 12:33:52 Solution: high slot module named "advanced navigation mechanism" witch can be loaded with a specific region map and that can make you warp to 0km to the gate.
Make it require a bit of cpu so it will only help if you are travelling or you're the "gang warp" guy in a gang. Also make the star charts take lots of cargospace.

Edited by: Mss Alt on 30/08/2006 14:03:38 With Kali comming, you can even make those star charts as rewards for faction missions. Each faction hands out starcharts for their regions, whereas charts for no npc regions could be sold by concord or produced in research outposts in that region.
This would solve a couple of problems: 1. reduce bm loads 2. make room for some specialized vessels for gang warps/travel 3. make the caldari outpost a usefull thing to deploy 4. provide new reasons for running gank squads in other alliances space (gank somebody with the starmap in cargo so you can do a proper invasion afterwards) 5. make it easier for alliances to defend their space against gank squads

no no no no no!
Silly idea, how can you even suggest this? What a fool you are...
They should be moved 15km to the RIGHT!
That I'd sign.

Moving them to the left is the FAR superior option. Why? Because most people are right handed.
It has been scientifically proven that in 73.25% of cases, instajumps lean to the right. Thus, moving gates to the left would be MORE effective than right. --

The big question is: Will people panic and by Region BMs only to find them useless in a months time?
Interesting times ahead

So, new players couldn't participate on the T2 lottery - yay. New players get screwed on instas as well.
Looks like CCP doesn't need more subscribers, at least on TQ.

You're both wrong, they quite clearly need to be moved 15km straight up. It's a far more elegant solution, and when properly aligned with the plane of ecliptic won't cause the starsystems to unbalance.
I'm still of the opinion, that instas as a whole are bad for EVE. I know there's lots of people who moan how they can't cope without them, but frankly that's just twaddle. (Yes, I have done it, through 0.0, and through gatecamps) It'd mean a change to how things are done, yes, but IMO for the better.
All those that say it'll make their lives impossible, aren't really considering that it'll make everyone's life 'change' but that makes the 'dedicated' haulers actually better off - your return on effort will be improved.

If they're going to make it so you can only copy 5 at a time please add a new station option, maybe in the factory section, that will allow you to order copies. Place a folder of BMs in the factory BookMark coping slot, and after downtime you have your bookmarks.

I would not haul in 0.0 without instas. A lot of the time I'd make it even without them, but at the moment whether or not a gatecamp is able to pop me depends purely on the quality of the camp, whereas without instas it depends on whether or not they turn up.
So it goes from: Oh look I died because these guys run a good gatecamp, and instas+stabs is not enough to get me through. --To:-- Oh look I died because someone else was near the gate.
why do u think you have the right to move a hauler through 0.0 WITHOUT and backup and survive

ahh, the eternal i love my cepter fans, i have missed yee
you dont like that bookmarks make BS move at a decent speed through system? well i really dont like that a cepter can do 300DPS while most BS cant even each 900DPS. all the while the cepters have 1/10th the sig, 30times the speed, can sustain a mwd, can hit smaller ships for full dmg, are cheaper ect
nerf one, u gotta nerf the other

I wish the CEO at CCP would grow a pair and say "this is the way we're going to handle the insta issue", and be done with it.

Two good options I see:
1) Move all stargates a bit so the old bookmarks are useless...and disable Bookmark Copying COMPLETELY, this way EVERYONE has to make their own bookmarks, noone has an advantage and its a pain in the arse for EVERYONE.
2) Implement a bookmark tax...For each bookmark 1000 ISK (or any other amount) per week... This way people will start deleting BMs they don't use at all or obsolete bookmarks...hurting peoples wallet makes people move...so there will be a lot less bookmarks soon.
