Originally by: Dukath Reading all the insta and bookmark threads i believe it is time to create a PvP shard. Just give us 1 node at first, only 1 region if needed (all the rest unexplored) with the good old settings back from beta.
- region chat, only show up when you speak - bookmarks fixed to anchored objects (containers, stations, gates, asteroids, ...) - anchoring skill limits the amount of containers you can anchor - persistent ships (when you disconnect you get autowarp, when you do a clean logoff you stay where you were. - no 0.0 NPC stations - faction standings mean something everywhere. Gallente start with -5 on caldari and vice versa. Standing affects docking rights/fees, rights to use station facilities, being shot by navy. - new characters get the sec status of the deleted character of that player slot (prevent recycling suicide gankers) - only 1 alt in space at a time. (one of your 3 characters is in space or not inside a POS shield? then you cannot undock or leave a POS shield the other 2 characters¦ - no insurance when you initiate combat and you die during aggression timer - get the old NPC spawns back, ie: a mix of battleships, cruisers and frigs, especially those that scrambled NPCing is just braindead simple on tranq. - no instant warp when already aligned. Introduce a calibration timer that is affected by agility (so nothing changes for ships standing still). A ship warps when its aligned and calibrated. Ships already aligned will still need to calibrate before warping - split the dual bonus modules such as tracking computers and sensor boosters - 5% of armor damage can only be repaired inside a station (you get hit for 100 damage, 5 of those damage get a special flag so that it doesn't get repaired.) - hull damage progresses downwards. 99% hull left will over time go to 98%, then 97%. The lower your current hull, the faster it goes down. A hull repairer or damage control reduces the rate it goes down. It can only be fixed at a station or a special POS module.
Some of these things used to be in there but got nerfed away in favour of the carebears, other things are new which i think will make it a more interesting pvp game.
As for the creating an extra shard will ruin the game, I don't think it will in this case, since all other examples are creating a non-pvp shard, here i do want a pvp shard since tranquility is getting more non-pvp by the minute
PS: carebears don't bother to reply since this is not meant for you, you already got tranquility that you are ruining.

In all fairness, I have made the following suggestion in the past:
--Open Jove Space:
--Have the Jovians declare that Concord, and certain aspects of Pod tech are not welcome in their space (Thus making all Jove space 0.0, and you don't show up in local unless you speak)
--and maybe a few other things.
--Make the Jove space about the same as the better current 0.0 regions for wealth (NOT, absolutely NOT better)
--The idea is to give whiners a section of space that has features they want, and not inflict them on everyone else.

You know, if I behaved like some of you have in this thread every time I saw a stupid carebear suggestion, I would probably have my post deleted and my account permabanned.
So instead I'll point out the obvious and save my breath for another day. Dukath is making a point. EVE is no longer a niche game with a pure pvp focus, and becoming more of a mainstream game with PVE focus by the minute.
So instead of the carebears being flamed for wanting to make the game soft, its the pvpers that get flamed for wanting to make the game harsh. Good luck with that, really.. Maybe in ten years, CCP can match the quality of Blizzard's PVE content today.
And for the record, I would pay double subscription for the game Dukath just outlined. Its hardcore!

Edited by: Sakura Nihil on 02/09/2006 09:50:40 EVE is harsh, there's no need to tell you or the rest of the PvPing clique that; you know it better than I do. However, the moment we start to take the edge off, we might see the uniqueness that draws us to EVE diminished, seeing our game devolve into a friendly, mindless grind geared towards the ex-WoW crowd to make CCP more money. This is not true to the spirit of EVE, why should we compromise our past in order to attract new players?

Tbh, I really wouldn't enjoy those changes. Only things that would be nice would be the splitting of modules like sensor boosters or tracking computers, and region chat.

I read the Original Post, and just to be sure I read it again. I¦m not a PVP¦r, I can barely fly my ship between gates without getting lost, however lets ignore that for the moment.
I have to disagree with Dukath on two points.
1. The hull point degredation is an interesting concept, but I think that if you have a hull repairer fitted, then once the hull is repaired to 100% it stays there till the next time some yahoo in a (insert ship of choice here) uses his weaponry in an attempt to mine your modules.
2. No seperate shard. It should all be on Tranquility.
99% of what Dukath has outlined would have little or no affect on highsec dwellers. Faction standings might cause a few problems, but hey i¦m almost persona non grata in Gallente space anyway so what the hell. Plus it¦s always puzzled me that with tensions between the factions rising, pod pilots are free to go wherever they want, regardless of race or origin.
What I do see in Dukaths post is a lot of exploit fixes, which of course will make his whole idea flamebait for the vocal minority who use those exploits daily.
Good post Dukath. As I mentioned, I¦m not a PvP¦r (unless forced into it by circumstance) but nearly all of your suggestions would only have the effect of improving eve. Hey, we might lose a few people if they were implemented, but the people we lose are probably the sort of people we don¦t want in the game anyway.

Let me re-phrase: Some interesting ideas, but spoiled by the idea of a separate shard. Without a healthy supply of industrialists to keep the market topped up, everything collapses.

sharding would be crap
should modify tranquility so it's closer to what you describe, f.i. make the npc stations conquerable, but heavy maintenance (resisting automatic npc attempts at reclaiming)
alts that get sec rating of previous character in slot is idiotic, so is the undock restriction
faction standings part sure, but KOS to navy in your rival faction's space from birth is stupid
ccp can't tell the difference between disconnect and logoff$ agree with calibrate + aligning
