We need POS warfare, we need dreads, we need carriers and we need motherships.
If we don`t have POS`s we will just go back to the old station ping pong. Not much fun.
If an alliance have used billions on billions on infrastructure to make the space a better place, they also need the equipment to defend it.
It might be easier to defend, but the offensive part can always choose when and where to engage. The offensive part also have the best kill/death ratio.
If a hostile force could just blob up and take over a system and outpost/station in one night I dont think we would have the numbers of ouposts we have now.
Hmm, this was a little of topic :)
Anyway, I think most big alliances are preparing for Kali. To see whats comming.
And with the new regions comming that can be an exciting thing to see.

Originally by: Da Maddness This has been an extreamly interesting read.
Reading JC's well written post it seams that the main issue (please correct me if I am wrong) is that soverenty is stupidly hard to change due to POS's being spawned all over the system which are also stupidly hard to destory.
As I consider myself new to all this I would just like to add an idea, be it completely stupid or not.
1Limit the amount of POS's per system or have a 'control POS' which when it is destoryed would power down all other pos's and lose soverenty of a system. Allow the 4 other POS to do what they can all do now but once the main POS (maybe position it in orbit around the star of the system)then all other POS would power down.
The reason for why POS have been so difficult to take down is groups/people creating LAG stars.
Putting loads of T1 frigs, shuttles and cans around the pos. That way the group who attacked the pos got lagged out and the POS guns just popped the ships.
In the meantime the group defending the pos could sit at the pos and just watch the hostile get owned by the POS guns.

Edited by: TZeer on 02/09/2006 16:58:55 I think CCP have finally started to deal with it.
I know some peeps got a warning, maybe banned ( not sure ) for putting up cans at pos in EC, this was a while ago.
I have just heard rumours that CCP have banned some people who have had LOTS of frigs/shuttles ( crap ) around their POS to lag out people.
Taking down a POS isnt that difficult if u are able to protect your dreads. If u have a decent number of them POS can be put in reinforcement mode pretty fast.

Without OP, POS and stuff we would/will never be able to build an empire in 0.0.
Cause quite frankly, some people like the idea of building, making something, while other like the death and destruction they can cause.
Without pos and sov. any alliance who tried building something would just get to a certain point before the usual "death and destruction" groups would come along and see how much damage they could do.
There are plenty of corps/groups in EVE who just fly around to see how much they can destroy, and have no interest in claiming space.

I never said that, thats your words.
But before POS and sov got introduced that was how it worked. But I can see your point.
And yeah POS setups have also changed, hardeners instead of alot of guns.
POS warfare sucks, blob wars are not much fun.

Quote: If you believe that pos warfare sucks and that blob wars are boring... then what are you doing in ASCN?
ASCN is not all about POS warfare and blobs my friend
I have been with EDF for almost 2 years now, and I have made alot of friends.
Like someone else said, it can be fun for 1-2 POS, but when U get to the x number it gets a little booring. But hey, it`s part of our duty to.
Last time I was in a decent fun fleet fight was when G & IRON was down here. My latest exeperinces with large fleets have been lag, log on tactics and other not so fun stuff.
Sure we have had some POS warfare and yeah we can make a huge blob. But its not like we do it 23/7. We do it when we need to.
To the first poster, it`s been summer and people have been busy living the RL, and many are waiting for Kali.

Edited by: TZeer on 02/09/2006 21:43:38 Thats what makes Eve so great, it has something for everybody.
Your a builder, its there. Your a lone wolf looking for target, its there. You wanna be with an alliance, it`s there. You just wanna do you own thing, it`s there.
Eve have something for everybody.
All groups try to use their advantage to get the upper hand.
What makes eve special is that eve keeps changing all the time. We have stories about the GNW, we have small groups that are able to make a name for themself. We have large powerblocks that dominate the landscape today. But we never know if they will be there tomorrow. That makes eve fun. It`s totally player driven.
Hmm, I feel im derailing this thread now...
And OMG im a forum*****...
And yeah, nicely put Druid
