I fly Caldari and would like to know which cruiser is best with what mods to kill a drone spaming Thorax. They run from my Ferox or Raven and my AF's just do not cut it. Can not fly HAC's at this time.

Try an Arbitrator with mwd and Tracking Disruptors. Let your drones kill him while you nerf his blasters. Or just run dual webs and keep him out of attack range.
If you are more worried about drones, maybe try a magnetometric racial jammer and a burst ecm module. You let him attack with drones then fire the racial jammer. The ecm burst breaks the drones lock while your racial prevents him from commanding his drones to re-engage.
I've not tried the racial/burst combo mind you, but ive been meaning too. For all i know it may not work all.

Why not a caracal?
Fit with heavies, two large extenders, a scram, a web and a gallente racial ECM.
BCUs in lows.
Should deal with the bugger easily enough.

Ugh Caldari don't really have a proper cruiser to take a Thorax down. Blackbird will obviously jam the crap out of him but that's not enough to take him down. I'd suggest a Caracal with Havoc missiles (explosive damage 4tw), web and gallente jammers.

Best way to kill a Thorax is to either EW him to death or just kill his drones really fast. Good drones add a ton of DPS, yet tech 2 guns is your biggest problem. Blaster Moa might work with its own tech 2 guns.

Dual web + scram and maybe a dash of med nos. kill off the drones then take it apart while staying mostly out of blaster range.

The Thorax's weakness is capacitor. Suck it dry and it can't MWD away or do any damage close up without its drones. Use your own drones to destroy his and it's pretty much toast.
Not that I can think of many Caldari ships to fill that role effectively.

bb can jam but if the rax pilot has tech2 mediums and releases his drones before the bb gets a lock the drones alone will kill the bb...

You want a specific 1v1 setup? Fill your mids with ECM, highs with assault and NOS. Use the launchers to kill the drones first. Fit a damage control. You win so long as you can keep him jammed until he's run out of cap.

I have used smartbombs effectively in the past to kill T2 med. drones. 2 smalls and a medium SB would be good, but changing those smalls out for a medium would be best. Tracking disruptors to then help kill the rax's blasters and a webber or 2 to keep him in smartbomb range. Maybe some nos too to kill his cap.

If you mean which caldari cruiser is best then i would say Moa.
The thorax will run away from both the bb & cara unless they can scramble him in time.
Fit blasters on the moa and then let him come to you. Use your drones to kill his and tank him while blasting away back at him. If you have good gunnery and shield skills and are able fit a good setup you will stand a good chance against him. If your EW skills are reasonabe you can also fit an ECM on the moa as a little surprise

Caracal goes down faster than a 10$ biatch and ECM doesn't work against a drone boat.

I strongly disagree with attacking drones first on a Gallente Gun boat. While this tactic is perfectly legit for Gallente Drone boats, it's NOT for Gallente Gun boats.
The overwhelming majority of Gallente Gun boats I've lost were due to not being able to rep or fire my turrets; heavily NOSd. Or, I was unable to acquire a target; jammed constantly.
We should remember that drones are secondary weapons on a Thorax, you would be in a far better position tanking it's drones than it's blasters.

Ok, so they're not exactly the house wives' favourite when it comes to PvP, but if its the drones you're having trouble with, its worth considering. If its a blaster rax (and it really should be, if he has sense) he should be good for range to be hit by it himself too. SBs can pop drones alot faster than anything else, and that should gimp his DPS a fair bit, giving your tank a bit of a rest.

Easy, a dual-webb rupture can shred him from outside his range while holding him firmly inplace. For Caldari, a caracal with a heavy tank or jammers would probably be your best bet.

I will clarify that I have NEVER used my boa setup & tactics (see above)against a rax. If i saw one I would run away if at all possible. However, I have taken down 2 vexors with it.
I suppose the honest answer is, indeed - NONE. But if i HAD to choose a cruiser to face a rax in (without either if us being allowed to warp away) then i would choose the boa.

Why is no one suggesting a smartbomb to mince the drones en masse removing much of the thorax's threat potential? If the Thorax orbits tight enough, it even doubles offensively?
Am I missing something here?

shoot i fly a crow 24/7 and pirate drone spamming thoraxs all the time. 7 out of ten times it is a thorax that is ratting and i hit him fast with rockets. he sends the drones after me they go down within seconds from my rockets while i keep him scrambled. if its something i cant handle AB out and come back with light missiles and take him from range.

Seconds? WTF.. was he using Hammerhead I with no other drone skills but Drone 5? A fully T2 fitted Rax with a 1600 plate is nearly impossible for any cruiser to beat.. Quit blowing sunshine up this guys ass..
