Last time we told you when the Fan Fest is and how to book your travel and the Fan Fest pass, now we have updated the Fan Fest 2006 page to let you know when it's time to compete, watch, listen and when to drink! Drinking is to be done when nothing else happens, although you are welcome to drink during most of the events as well. I know I will...
And for those of you who have not yet booked, hurry up!!

Ahh, so glad I booked a complete week over there .. might need the recovery time. Although I hope there is a 'Eve-Widows' section where we can place all our Wifes/Girlfriends (Of course Husbands/boyfriends too so I'm not called something nasty). I know both my friends wife and mine are heading over with us.

This is probably a stupid question but, are the EVE Championship, EVE CCG Tournament and Roundtables all going to be at the same time? In other words do I have to choose to which one I want to be going to?
It'll be my first time at the fanfest :)

After checking the booking page, I saw this:
Originally by: Icelandair booking page PLEASE NOTE : the price of ú299 per person includes 2 nights accommodation. However Manchester and Glasgow passengers may need to add extra nights at an additional cost, as these flights are not daily.
I am guessing that your flight times and dates are due to flights not being daily. My suggestion would be that you contact Icelandair customer service and try to sort it out with them, maybe try to get the departure changed to a different airport on the correct day? Please let us know if you have any problems when you tried doing that.

Hard to say without a more detailed schedule, but I think some of it will be at the same time. Last year we solved it by letting people have their friends play in their place. I think you should just wait and see when you get there to see how much you can participate in. Or get really good at multitasking.

If you click the first link in my original post you'll get to a thread I posted and stickied august 11th, and it was a sticky until I made this post today. That thread was announcing that you could now book the fan fest, this thread is announcing that the schedule was posted. I can post the announcements, I can not make you read them.

I am sooo much looking forward to be there! All my tickets are booked, and the hotel room is reserved, so I will see you all in the bar on the 8th of november.
The only stuppid mistake I did was to book my flight out from Iceland on the sunday the 12th of november. If I know myself I would really have needed that sunday for sleep, to recuperate after the party :/ oh well.

You can always contact Icelandair and see if you can extend your visit, I believe some people has done it in the past. It will cost extra for the night, and it might not work I guess, but worth a try if you want to. First FF the flight left early in the morning, ruined saturday night for me, so I made sure I took a later flight for the 2nd FF.

I have a question... A turbo nerd question I must admit (You wouldn't flame a guy with glasses would you?)
Is the CCG tournament sealed deck or constructed? I don't know about everyone else but I'm not into CCG's enough to buy a ton of cards for a constructed tournament, but I like EVE enough that I'd learn the game and play in a sealed deck (understanding of course that I would have to pay for the sealed deck cards).
Just curious.

Computers will be provided for the tournament, you don't have to bring your own. In the past we have had computers available for fan fest participants to use, and I would imagine the same applies this year.
The Nordica has internet access in the rooms, I'm not sure if they have some for of wlan set up in the hotel but I think we might, though I'm not sure on that and I don't have any details right now. If you have a laptop, you should bring it. Even with some computers available for participants, there will probably be more people wanting to use them than computers available.

This is probably as close as you get, tells you about what time of day you can expect to fly, arrive etc. For more information you will either have to contact Icelandair customer support or order the package.

At least parts of the fan fest will be at places where they serve alcohol, and legal age for drinking in Iceland is 20. However, you are allowed to be in places that serve alcohol if you're over 18. You could still come, if you only participate in the parts of the Fan Fest which is held in non drinking venues.

From what I understand it, it have been arranged tournaments earlier too at the fanfests. it is just a small part of the fanfest, and nothing in the same scale as where on EVE TV earlier. Also, from what I understand it, there will be another alliance tournament in DECEMBER (an not in november as when the fanfest takes place), and that will be broadcasted on EVE TV as last time. The tournament on the fanfest is - I guess - pretty much "internal" or "in-house"
Dont sue me if I am wrong tho

Personally im going there for the following:
1. Meet EVE Players and Devs 2. First hand info about EVE. What to come. What to expect and where the heck are we all going! 3. The chances for interrogating the devs and squeese some answers from them! 4. Beer!! Party!! EVE!! More Beers! And then some more Parties! 5. BEER!
Hmm.... Hope I got it all
Pls feel free to add to the list!
Anyway. You WILL find me at Hotel Nordica Bar from wednesday evening on the 8th november! Hope I will see some of you there too!
I found this Photo of Me So you know what to look for, - if anyone wants to that is. Its definitely Not the best photo, but its the only one I got at hand.

Trust MC to place a gatecamp in front of Hotel Nordica!
If I cant get through the ordinary way, maybe we could solve the problems over a beer in the hotel bar. I am more then up to discussing the finer side of gatecamping

There are at least ten BDCI on the list, I believe, and a couple more of my guys are donating blood / selling pets and whatnot to afford the trip. There are at least three from FRICK so far and I expect a few more to show up. I know Leafo and Lowa from NSN are coming and a few of the CONIN guys mentioned they intended to book as well. I'd say a little more than twenty would be a safe bet.

Think this answers your question. You can participate if and only if you are only participating in the parts held in the non-drinking areas. But if I know Kieron right, he will place all shows and lectures less then 5 steps away from the bar.

Is the CCG tournament sealed deck or constructed? so many roundtables so little time! + the championship (though I'll probably be out in the first round)
gonna book a chair at hammer's table to talk factional warfare (its mechanics and features) and another at gnautons to talk content.
Then I want to talk about exploration (my hope for dynamic progressive content rather than static like the old system) if somehow i can be in three (four!) places at once :)
though all 3 of the above are inevitibly linked so im gonna need another spot at oveur's table to talk about how its all being brought together.
Make the tables relatively close together (and to the bar)

What is the electricity in Iceland? Icelandic electrical standards are European (50Hz, 220 volts) so many North American electrical devices will require converts. Plugs are generally two-pin, so devices brought in from the UK and North America will require adapters.

Check your devices, you'll be supprised how many North American devices support 220V power and only need a converter.
Converters cost ten or fifteen bucks, a transformer to step the voltage down to the US standard will run alot more and might not even be needed.
I went last year and my laptop, electric shaver, Both cell phones and Ipod all supported 220, I just needed the converter to let my plugs work. Of course I picked up the wrong one at the store.
Oh well.

Doesn't really matter if it's 220V, 230V or 240V. The standard (mostly) in Europe these days is 230/400V, but that is just an average, it can be as much as 10V over that. So if your stuff handles around 230V, it will be fine.

Take me for example. I work at a museum on daytime. Among dusty books and just as dusty professors. But at nitetime, when the curtains are closed and the door is locked, i load up my trusty battleship and go hunting! Getting a break from real life is a neccesity when the workload gets pile high and the days sometimes long.

I don't know if it's by design or not, but fanfest packages are no longer on Icelandair website(s), the "form to contact Icelandair travel agents" has been assuring me that "personnel has been notified" about Error 500 it generates on submit, for about a month now, and it is not possible to reach Icelandair reservation phone in Sweden from abroad, at least if you want anything else except listening to Swedish-only recorded announcements :( email to Icelandair gets replied with a week's delay saying "please call reservation agents".
Can some kind soul (kieron? Wrangler?) clarify some simple things here maybe?
- is Icelandair package deal from Stockholm still on? - are the Loftleindir (sp?) and Nordica full up or there are still rooms? - what are the alternative suggested hotels/whatever accomodation, if any, if my friends and I have to go book everything separately and not via Icelandair?
Many thanks in advance

When I spoke to someone about his last time, I was told they were pretty close to selling out. As for numbers, Wrangler might be able to answer that.
On a side note to all, since this may have been missed in the player events forum threads. EveTV will be at Fanfest and taping all your drunken debauchery. We'll be taping a lot of the events, conducting formal interviews, and some other surprises we are working on.
Hope to see you all there!
P.S. - I enjoy Rum & Coke and girly drinks. Beer works too EveTV is coming!! Join us in IRC!! irc://irc.coldfront.net - #evetv |
