This has started happening to me a lot lately also. Mostly when I undock from a station or jump at a jump gate. No idea what to do about it. I have the latest AMD dual core driver and latest logo'd nvidea driver. I'm very much a computer newb, so I am quite limited in what I can do to my machine personally. I have seen suggestions about turning off the sound. Does that mean in the EVE client, or turning off the sound function of the computer in some way? thnx for any help provided.

It means ingame and not just turning the volume down, but unchecking the audio checkbox. Dont really know if it's still a problem, since I stopped playing with sound after 2 days of gaming, but everyone seems to be complaining about the poor state the audio system in eve is and can cause a lot of crashes.

Thnx for the info. I turned off sound in Eve client and it definetly made a differance. Client was crashing each time I would undock before, after I turned off sound I as was able to undock 4 times and then the client crashed on the 5th undock. Weird thing is I've been playing fo awhile and this just started in the last 3 or 4 days or so. I would love to try any other suggestions anyone may have. Maybe I will uninstall Eve and reinstall it to see if it helps. Thnx in advance for any help offered.

Tbh, I cant think of anything, I never really had any problems with EVE crashing, the only thing left to suggest is that you file a detailed bug report and who knows, maybe your bug report will solve half the crashes people are experiences these days ;)

check your processor or GFX card isn't overheating. check the airways are clear of dust.
if all else fails please file a bug report and include a logfile, crash dump and dxdiag report

He is not alone on this issue. I have personally experienced this and have spoke with at least 40 other people in game on this this subject as they have encountered it also.
It also seems to occur more frequently when more than one client is being used at the same time on the same pc. ie like a large % of eve peeps have and run more than one account, I used to be able run 4 no probs prior to the patch, I can now barely run 2. It appears to eat a lot more of the CPU when there is a session change, hell of a lot more since the patch infact. CPU hits 100% and eve literally hangs. The client does detect this state as it warps you off as it would if it detects lag when jumping in. Just a little more insight to issue anyhow hope it helps

I have had a lot of problems with crashing to desktop - AMD 4800x2, dual geforce 7800gtx 512s and lots of ram. Happened a lot with gate jumps, undocking etc. I started running Eve in windows mode and have not crashed in 3 weeks or more when jumping or undocking. I turned off windowed mode for an hour last week and started crashing again. Dont know if thts a work around for anyone else, but worth a try if you are at your wits end like i was ;)

plugged in my old radeon aiw 9800, working again, so the 1600 is broke after 2 months :( (double checked) now crashing randomly with the 9800, directly to desktop or my computer restarts suddenly
now trying out windowed mode, lets see if that helps

Edited by: Enotz on 17/09/2006 11:23:14 Go to Start -> My Computer -> Right Click "Properties"; pick Hardware
Open device manager, and open sound and audio drivers. Right click your main audio driver (soundblaster, realtek, etc.) and choose disable. If your PC prompts you, reboot. After this, open up eve and run. If it works without crashing, go to your computer manufacuturer's website and look for drivers, or contact tech support for the most recent compatible drivers.
If this doesn't solve the problem, try buying a new soundcard and replacing your current/onboard one with it.
To make that clear, I mean if you can play eve with sound disabled and new drivers don't help, try a new sound card- don't waste your money on it unless you can run eve fine with the sound off.

windowed mode seems to work for me, no crashes last weekend at all. its just a little annoying to fit the 1280x1024 window onto my 1280x1024 desktop every connect, but i can live with that ;) for that soundwise resolve: i pulled my audigy2 and tried the onboard realtek 7.1 HD, same crashes on fullscreen mode. turning it off isnt an option for me, i'd rather have my eve crash every now and then than solely relying on winamp for phonetic entertainment :P

My EVE is crashing too..well it crashes, freezes, then the PC auto-restarts..its getting pretty annoying its happening while loading the log in screens, jumping between belts and BMs, and frankly ANYTHING. Its RANDOM. I operate a nVIDIA Geforce 6200 Graphics card..this issue has JUST started like two days ago, for NO apparent reason. 1GB of memory, massive D, and P4 processor(3.0 Ghz) so its all very very good for the game, and this has JUST srtaed..any clue?
and I have recently downloaded the newest graphics card driver from nvidia, but as I see ATi users have similar problems as well.

Nothing got changed two days ago. Seems like you have yourself a heat issue (especially if it's rebooting randomly). -

Im glad to hear that you can now play with slightly less interruptions, and strongly recommend anyone with ctd issues to try windowed mode as a work around. CCP should look at this too and see what the issue is !!

I had some those issues also, only thing that worked was to clear the cache. Just rename your cache to f.x Cache2 and login, if it doesn't help delete the new cache and rename the cache2 to cache, and your back. |

Hi, I get very frequent crashes to desktop without any apparent reason, most frequently when undocking or when I'm about to enter warp, be it warpgate or not. I have a dualcore 3800, 2 gig ram and Geforce 7900 GTX. tried running game on single cpu but that seems to make no difference in CTD frequency. CPU is not overheating, everything always works fine on just about any game, be it online or offline that I play (and it's a lot). 3 RL friends who are also playing Eve since a few weeks have the same identical issue, and they have different PC setups..which leads me to believe this issue is server side not client. The crash itself is just a clean crash to desktop, no error message, no pc freeze, no autoreboot or nothing. Same for my 3 friends. is anything being done to investigate this as it is extremely annoying, if not unplayable.

I keep losing connection as well. My drivers are as up to date as is possible for me to determine, I run in windowed mode and have only one client running.
I captured 2 disconnects in about 5 minutes with the logserver, and am downloading winzip now to compress that file for the bug report. Except I can't get to the bug reporting page
This may be SHEER coincidence, but I'd initially started an alt in Essence, but that kept crashing. It was a market alt, and is on the same account as Mini so they've never been open at the same time. At the same time I experienced no problems in Isaziwa. When I moved Mini to Isaziwa, that was when I started hitting these crashes. I'm going to see if I can POSSIBLY finish this mission then head back to Isaziwa to see if I have any problems there. If so I'll file another bug report describing the discrepency in game play between the two areas.

I have the exact same problems as Syryx. I have had it happen for quite a few months now. This is obviously after several driver updates. Almost same setup, AMD x2 3000+, 2 gig ram, nvidia 7800gt. Latest drivers. My hardware performance is nominal. There are no error logs or file dumps. This has to be a problem with the client itself, I don't think it is sever side. My opinion, I did not have this problem before getting my dual core, so I think it is a dual core thing, but it could also be my new video card as well. Running on one thread does not help. Will try the windowed thing, but I am doubtful. Won't stop me from playing, but it is annoying

>>17 >>21 >>24 all sound like the same thing I had troubles with, which was soundcard.
First, go to My Computer, right click and choose Properties. Click the Hardware tab, and click device manager. Go to Sound and video devices, or something with a similar name, and disable your soundcard. If your PC prompts you, reboot. After this, login, and see if that stops your crashing issues. If it does, go to your PC manufacturer's website and download the latest sound drivers they have, or call their tech support line and ask what drivers are availible. If this doesn't fix it, buy a new soundcard.

Are you sure? becuase this has JUST started happening, and I sprayed out the whole tower just incase. I mean this JUST started..and I dont think its supposed to overheat when I type in my passwrod(yeah I go to login screen, type in password then it freezes and restarts)..I try again and it works..until two or three hours later it restarts and I sign in to continue playing normally..

If your problem is overheating then you would most likely suffer system instability as well as the eve client crashing (like windows blue screening or rebooting)
I would suggest disconnecting your RAM, your Graphics card and your processor from your motherboard.
Take apart your Processor and Heat sink fan assembly
CLEAN Everything.
Re-Assemble your Processor / heat sink fan assembly with fresh thermal paste.
This may seem extreme but it worked for me when i had a system that was overheating due to huge amounts of dust... bought some intake filters after that and no more dust probs!
If it is just eve that crashes and your Operating system is fine... it may not be anything todo with overheating.
An easier thing to test is for a corrupt memory module. This has happened to me also and I was very surprised to find that I had a corrupt module in my system for 6 months without realising it till eve started to crash. The symptoms were that eve would randomly just close during play.. no warning, just eve client death.. my Operating system was otherwise fine.
The test is easy.. do and download MemTest86+ from http://www.memtest.org/ . It's free and a great tool.
It takes a while to run but will tell you if have any corrupted memory. If you do its up do you to juggle around your DIMM's and retest to find the broken module... but most RAM manufacturers have a lifetime warranty and will give u new one if it is broke.
Good luck... it test your memory first.. then try for overheating / thermal problems.

My suggestion would be to try 3 things:
1. Set the buffer size in the prefs.ini file to something larger (1/2 system memory). To do this, find the "cache" folder in the CCP folder on your comp --> find the 'prefs.ini' file --> open it, find buffersize and change it (example: set it to something like "buffersize=512" or "buffersize=256", etc. depending on how much system memory you have. Next, go file --> save. Now you're good to go.
2. Add "advancedDevice=1" in prefs.ini, then increase (yes, increase) the AA/AF settings once ingame. I have heard this has helped some people with CTD problems, strangely enough. The AA/AF settings are in the graphics options after pressing esc ingame (just in case someone doesn't know). Just try it. What have you got to lose?
3. Set eve.exe priority to High (ctrl-alt-del --> task manager --> applications --> right click eve.exe --> high priority).
I have experienced few to no crashes with these settings. System specs are as follows: A64 3200+ @ stock, 2x512MB corsair xms, 6800gs, 400W Antec psu(24A 12V rails).
I hope that helps make somebody's Eve experience more fun.

Okay people, calm down! Before taking apart your computer, consider this: if it were a hardware or driver problem, you would see random crashes (and reboots) using other heavy applications as well. Fact is, this only happens with EVE. So, the problem is with the EVE client and/or server.
I'm a new player myself and these random crashes are a major annoyance. I just hope the server people are trying to fix this, because this potentially could turn away paying customers.

Wrong.
Just because something is incompatible with one program doesn't mean it will be incompatible with others. I know nVidia cards have a hell of a time rendering certain effects in one game I play, even though they're the sponsored card. On the other hand, it works fine with other games of the same graphical quality. It's a matter of how the game USES your device, not just the device.
