Seems to me that Eve needs a New Eden to migrate too...now if someone somewhere only had the power to build a small or large adjacent galaxy...what a prize the wormhole would be. Also it seems to me that the rot of RL soceity seems to be slowly being mirrored within this virtual one. The rich get richer and the others do what they say or live disgruntled lives.

This legitimizes nothing.
One of the things that makes EvE so special is the single shard concept.
Your cringeworthy ideas propose a "pvp" server. Once you have done that you can solve world hunger and cure AIDS. People will still point at the bit where you propose a pvp shard and laugh.
And I don't blame them.

Almost biomassed my char last week. Friends talked me out of it, so I'll just train skills until Kali hits and will decide then.
I'm particularly appalled at the way CCP fails to communicate clearly on outstanding issues (lag? instas? POS? t2 market?), while beating their chest forcefully when they manage to cram 30k players on the server (hurray, MORE lag), or when they install 'elite' hardware components that have yet to deliver an actual improvement to end-user gameplay.

We'd only take it with us again Phyrr.
If this is going to be beaten it will only happen when we stare it in the face and defy it. Running doesn't work.
That applies to both RL and Eve.

/emote has been playing since beta.
Sub expires on Tuesday.
/emote understands OPs concerns.
/autopilot off
(wait that was beta ..)
EVE appears to have become an economic simulation, more logistics and less fun.
Not sure what to do myself, but I'll probably end up extending and waiting for Kali.
/emote hopes that Kali delivers ......... --

Really, CCP has never forgotten us. The majority of content being added is for 'vets', in particular low sec stuff. I think many of the issues you have raised are not really anything but balance issues which can be argued both ways mostly and thankfully he who whines loudest on the forums isnt the one always listened to on many issues.
But then when you ask for content for vets I do wonder what you mean, as unlike a level based game, eve is accessible to all such is the advantage of the skill system design but it carries equally disadvantages that make adding 'content' hard and also to that end, objectives and goals for players beyond isk.
I have to admit I am very worried about eve longevity, that being is there enough realistic content (not just concept ideas) that can be added beyond the next two years and for me, character progression is a burning issue I would like to raise if I make it to FF for the first time.
Many of the issues of game balance I look at beyond niggling things on ships/modules are issues that exists because they have been that way since launch and cannot easily be changed. There are many things I would have liked done differently and this experience of having done it once will hopefully make Eve 2 a great game.

TO the OP:
Im a vet and I dont care about vets.....j/K
In SWG the vets used to get something special ever 6 months or so. Maybe something like that would be cool. A 1 run BP of a faction ship of something like that.
I didnt read the whole thread so if its off topic, sorry. Listen to this cool stationwhile you play |

Jasmine Constantine, you've got some good reasoning there. and though I dont think I quite agree on all your points raised you also wrote many of the things I think - and put them much better than i could have! :D
I'll answer a few people and stick some more of my thoughts out there:
to those that say "Vets, you made this game what it is!" its true i guess, good or bad we've helped shape what this game is today (so have CCP btw). but thats because its what we thought we wanted - epic massive space battles, hundreds of players fighting it out for domination over their enemies...sounded fantastic, and tbh sounds pretty good to me even now.
But, people only thought of the upsides....Trouble is theres no space in that for individuals to make a mark for themselves. its all about logistics (POS, Cap ships, fleet replacements) and numbers - fleet sizes and 2:1 Kill/death ratios.
There is also the problem that EVE just cannot deal with fleets of this size, so everything must be done to penalise people that use them. it has to be done through game mechanics too...otherwise people will still do it - because its the "best" thing to do.
And fights that last seconds not hours.....ok even back then people were often reluctant to throw away ships, and fleets might slowly form over hours (mostly because people had to come from so far away i think - space was big back then and few people had reliable BM's) but the fights took hours too. I remember getting rearmed in the middle of a fight because I and others had run out of weaponry...we had the hauler jump in and warp to us for resupply, thats stayed with me for over 2 years now
T2 BS equipment is now a requirement for many of the allainces, not just the big 3/4/5 (PS someone want to tell me which those are sometime? :P) but for every alliance that wants to do well...why? because basically it means you can decimate any T1 BS fleet you come across - you hit (and hit hard) at 240kms they dont. its that simple.
You (someone said anyway) say "dont refuel your POS's! then CCP will do something" wrong. wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong! why? because someone else will come along and use their own POS. meaning all its achieved is that you've lost your POS/Outpost/whatever...not really the affect you'd have been after I'm sure.
You say we vets are to blame for the Blob culture thats sprung up....I say we've used whatever tools CCP has given us in our quest to suceed... besides if one group stopped using these tools theyd be smashed....and I'm sure its happened many times, yet do we hear about them? do we remember those who took a stand for the way they wanted the game to be played so didnt POS/blob/EW up or form massive military alliance? -I could throw some names about but i bet you most people wont have heard of them... why? harshly put - because they were out evolved. many EVE vets have used the mantra : "Adapt or Die" and we've held to it over years.
EVE is a true Darwinian game in that respect, changes come up and the fastest to use the advantageous changes rule...maybe us vets have come to an evolutionary deadend? I hope we havnt brought the game with us there....
Maybe we do look back with rose tinted glasses (ie look back and only see the good things) and its probably true...but there are a great many things we have lost along the way - they be good and bad, but lost nether the less.
Thats all very negative so I'd like to add that EVE is still my favourite game and the Devs, GM's, players and whoever else have helped shape it deserve much praise :D -never forget that, and for the large part this game is still great! (but it could be better!)
maybe we could have zones that limit what ships you can have there? so have T1 zones and T2 zones? (obviosuly though the T2 would have to have more rewards) I dunno I'm no ideas man :P
I will save you, but make sure you bring beer - Wrangler and cAKe - Imaran I thought it was bREe, omgi'mgivingawaymodroomsecwetsftl - Cortes when come back ... bring PIE. Me like PIE. -Capsicum |
