So, the last couple of weeks we have been seeing the game becoming more and more lagged, bordering to completely unplayable. Existing players are outraged, new players get a VERY poor first impression.
Now, I think we all know CCP are probably trying to find a solution. Anything else would be commercial hara-kiri, something CCP are not going to do willfully.
Still, they're doing just that.
Multiple forum threads over several pages, angry and "less than satisfied" paying customers, seem to be completely ignored by CCP.
I'm sure they are not, but that is how it appears. No communication, no reassurement that things are being looked into, nothing.
To me it bears resemblance of a couple webhosts I have been unfortunate enough to use. When the **** hit the fan and servers started having trouble, instead of dealing with the problem publically, replying to the customers and being professional, they "went underground"
No contact, no statements no nothing. Just like EVE atm.
Keep this up CCP and you will not reach 50k subscribers, you will start loosing them. Rapidly.
I'm sure this thread will be ignored just like the others, maybe even locked or deleted.
I'm loosing faith, and I really don't want to. ---

I was having very similar feelings - here is an effective (and fun) counter that will have you loving eve in no time)
step 1 - Liquidate all your eve assets.
step 2 - buy a small fleet of PVP fitted ships.
step 3 - move to .4 or lower, and begin to kill!
Trust me, youll be loving eve again in no time.
Good luck.

The devs and ccp have said many things about what you are complaining about, you just need to look for it. Its in dev blogs, and usually the tread ont he forums relating to it.
The problem is people dont search for stuff. The devs only have time to post it once otherwise they would be constantly answering peoples questions and never doing anything to actaully make the game better.
If you are unsitisfied by the service then you should leave but it wont make any difference in the long run, CCP are putting what resources they can into the game, you "leaving" or threating to leave wont change how much they can put into the game.

About some of the flamers, fanboys, whetever comes here and use words that offend some people, the OP or any other, there is always the "Rules of the Forum" and I think a petition could fit just fine to handle this situation.
But don't bother with these types cuz they don't talk for the community, in fact, they are few ppl, mostly, kids that don't know what is respect... They will learn, some day, at least I hope so.

I must say, a lot of you don't understand at all. Go play WoW if you want to be flametrolls.
I don't whine about the lag, it's ok. **** happens. I'm just pointing out that the seeming lack of communication from CCP is not a very good way to go about ones business.
I'm sure the problems will be sorted. They always have so far.
But a little communication and public presence would reassure especially the people coming into the game now that this is not normal, and being sorted.

It's a waste of time and effort on their part to respond to every single thread that wants to make a complaint and it will only encourage more people to post threads demanding CCP respond to them.
Anyone who thinks they are just ignoring the situation should get a reality check.

People who have been with the game 2+ years will know that this is not the worst the server has been. It got fixed then, and it'll get fixed now.
Originally by: Thuul'Khalat Multiple forum threads over several pages, angry and "less than satisfied" paying customers, seem to be completely ignored by CCP.

Actually, there are loads of Dev posts around, acknowledging that there are issues, and that people are working on solving them. Take a stroll over to eve-search and use the dev post finder.
The problem is that 100k+ subscribers are capable of generating threads at a much faster rate than the devs can possibly post to them.
Then there's the fact that new threads about exactly the same thing appear every day. It would be a complete waste of dev time to sit there posting exactly the same response to exactly the same query, day after day. And if they did they'd just get accused of using cut&paste responses and ignoring the players.
It also doesn't help that a lot of forum users seem to have failed to even purchase the Patience skillbook, let alone started training it. There are way too many threads that get started at mightnight, and by 9am have degenerated into a whine because the devs are "ignoring" the thread, completely forgetting that the Devs have to sleep sometime. 24/7 forum dev posting is not part of the subscription.
And of course, in forum-land, it can't possibly take more than 2 seconds to identify a problem in a million+ lines of code, then devise, compile, test and release a fix for it.
There's only so many different ways to say "We know there's a problem, we're fixing it". More detailed feedback would be pointless, because most players wouldn't understand or care - they'd much rather the devs just get on with the fixing.
Right now the eve community is behaving like a 4-year old who's dad is trying to fix their bike - standing next to him going "Is it fixed yet, is it fixed yet, is it fixed yet, is it fixed yet..." ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

People should not have to _search_ for news like this. Ever.
New players will not even know about eve-search. The join up, get a lagged game, and leaves.
Who knows what assets to the community these players migth have become.
It would not be hard to put a plainly visible newsitem on the front page, under headline news. But ohnoes, that might make people not download the game.
Maybe so. Maybe they'll rather check back in a few weeks, rather than without knowing about the problems at the moment downloading the game, getting crap performance and leaving never to return.
Repairing a bad first impression is very hard. ---

As politely as I can, let me ask you to not try to speak for the EVE community as a whole... especially the older players.
We older players know that this is nothing. Eve has it's ups and downs... and frankly the in-game issues with lag have been far worse in the past.
You've been informed on where the Dev responses you so desperately crave can be found. That should pretty much end this nonsense don't you think?

The forums are starting to remind me of the old EQ "whineplay" forums. Over time they degenerated in to a pretty constant stream of player complaints, page after page on the same 2 or 3 topics. Sony eventually shut those forums down and for a couple years there was no official EQ forum.
If you think about it, from a business standpoint at least, Sony did the right thing. Only a fractional minority of the players used those forums while thousands of happy players were silent, yet many people who were interested in the game read them to learn more and saw the complaints. I wonder how many subscriptions the whineplay forums cost them before they put an end to them.
Really, there is a thread, usually dozens of threads for just about every complaint on the front page, search is your friend.
I rarely see lag, even in Empire. Of course I rarely go to Jita or Yulai...

I remember very well (dating myself massively).
Commodore Vic20 with a Dataset tape drive.
18 minutes to load Temple of Apshai 23 minutes to load Telengard
The upgrade the Commodore 64 with the 1541 disk drive was huge, it dropped my load times to 5 minutes across 4 disks and I was absolutly thrilled with that.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but as an existing player I am certainly not outraged. Lag is rarely an issue because I don't go to empire, and wrote off fleet battles as being laggy by default. The only thing thats managed to bother me recently is how show info sucks.
Maybe I've lost hope, maybe I can simply remember a worse time than most. But you should know posting on here doesn't make it go faster.

I, for one, cannot wait till all the whiners fingers are bleding with all the typing there doing, then hopefully there will all quit and these boards will return to normal intelligent posts that i can actually read and reply to while at work.
Recently the whines have gone up ten fold. Im all for making your voice heard, and not accepting problems, but until CCP are visably not doing jack ****, i'll not be whining and complaining about lag.
I'll just be staying out of empire.

Ok... one more time, and I'll try to be very clear with regard to those of you with obvoiusly limited capabilities:
I (as in myself) do not (that is normally regarded as the opposite of "do") mind the lag. I know it will be fixed. I know where the info is.
The problem is that new players only see thread upon thread of complaints, seemingly ignored by CCP.
No, i do not think they should spend their days answering on the forums. Post a proper news-item on the front-page, and login screen so it is plainly visible, and not something you need to go looking for. ---

*sigh* so this thread was a thread to suggest CCP not answer any threads but post a new item on the front page saying they are looking into the server problems..?? and you couldnt have just put..
CCP, a simple new item during login and on the front page of the forums stating that you are fixing the server problems would stop all the whines.

Yes, the lag is pretty bad atm, CCP has this and the new patch to worry about. I think that there are probably more optimizations in kali 1, that's one reason why there not killing BM's straight away and doing various other things.
CCP will get through this and eve will be back on top form soon.

I call bull****. I've been playing since release and while there have been times when the game was screwed up because of poor QA after a patch release we never had the constant lag that we have today. All the "upgrades" they did haven't changed that. Dragon code didn't lessen the lag. If anything it's worse. It takes forever to open the market or escrow. Even corp hangers and not immune. Whatever they've done it's moved the game backwards not forwards. So I ask you not to speak for the whole community by saying everything is fine.

People are posting and complaining, what you fan boys like to call whining, because they care about the game. Things don't get fixed unless people complain about it. It's that simple. I hope there are 100 more threads complaining about the lag. Maybe then they will do something about it.
To put it another way, I no longer believe anything the CCP devs say. Everthing they've done to reduce lag hasn't worked. First they upgrades the RAMSAN saying that this would reduce lag. Well that didn't work. Then they replaced the cluster and said that would fix the problems. Once again that didn't work. Now they say the Dragon code will lesson the lag. Once again all they are doing is lying to their customers. I just don't see why all the fan boys would believe anything CCP says at this point. Personally I think running a game with this many concurrent users is beyond their ability.
Maybe it's just that I find it hard to believe people who've lied to me in the past. Either way I hope they eventually get the lag fixed for the sake of EVE. I just won't be holding my breath.

I don't go much to empire, when when i do, rens is lag free. Fleet battles are laggy by default. Normal gameplay -> No lag.
Just what the hell is everyone whining about.
EDIT - there's one thing i would love to see fixed tho. The UI. Turn it off and suddenly big fights and pos sitting is graphics lag free.

The OP is right....
It is the beginning of the end .. but not of EVE..
it is the beginning of the end for the constant whinage that has been prevalent on the forums over the last couple of weeks..
I think more and more of the player base are as tired of the whining as they are tired of the issues brought about by the Dragon Code.
Massive whinage is self-corrective, analogous to a child crying about not getting his favourite coloured lolipop.. eventually the child gets tired of hearing his own voice.
I'm sure CCP will fix the major problems with playability.. and if they don't EVE numbers will dwindle.. and all this will happen wether we whine or not.

Edited by: Calynus on 15/09/2006 16:55:47 Fanboism does more harm than good when it comes to dealing with service-based products. If you have enough rabid fanbois (like the fellow in the post right above mine) blasting everyone who tries to voice a concern, it obscures problems from the company, and angers the targets of the abuse. More problems aren't addressed and people can quit hurting the game. It's self-defeating. But fanbois are fanatics and reasoning with a fanatic is like trying to teach a rock to sing.
"Complaining" about a legitimate issue and "whining" are two totally different things. If you can't differeniate between them, then you should do yourself a favor and stay out of discussions where you will just make yourself look like an idiot.
The OP was complaining. He pays for a service from CCP and he feels that the service is lacking. He is entitled to complain about it, as long as it's civil and legitimate. In fact, it's a legal right, and an important one that's guaranteed in our legal systems.
It's important to note that refusing to purchase a company's products because you are dissatisfied is the ultimate complaint.
I agree with what the OP said but I went further and let my subscription lapse until they decide that adequate customer communication and providing an acceptably working product are a priority. And no, fanbois, you can't have my stuff because I may pay for EVE again if they take action to fix the items I am dissatisfied with.

So I am a fanboy because I am pointing out the bleeding obvious?
I just did a rough count of the responses to this thread so far.
27 respondants so far think the OP is overstating his case and is just adding to the constant whining.
Only 3 respondants so far agree with the OP.
What does that say to you?
To me it indicates that the playerbase is tiring of this kind of post.
If you really want to concentrate your efforts, go and post on the following thread :Eve is becoming unplayable.. which I have already done, same as you have Calynus.
30 odd threads about the same thing simply dilutes the message you are trying to deliver.

Its the first defence of the whiners to shout FANBOI!!!!111 when anyone dares to disagree.
OK call me a fanboi then. I like other posters in this thread also can remember quite clearly times when the lag was a lot worse. Personaly I'm rarely in systems with more than 75 pilots so maybe I dont see the lag much how ever I was in Jita with an alt checking prices etc and lag was there but bearable with 645 pilots in system. This isn't me being a Fanboi ( I hate the word especially with the stupid spelling but hey everyone knows what it means) Its simple fact.
As to this being the end of Eve? Last I checked subscriptions were up and we just recently broke the number of players online record. Would the OP please explain how that fits into his "This is the end" equation. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It's also not my problem if some posters have selective memories concerning the various growing pains that EVE has had.
Also, if your definition of a Fan Boi is anyone who disagree's with pointless nitpicking and exaggeration of existing issue because they happen to find current gameplay acceptable and enjoyable... well... I doubt you are going to be happy playing EVE no matter what the state of gameplay.
Constructive critisism is good, panic stricken screeching and working yourself (and others) into a tizzy over minor issues is another.

To OP: Your point is very well stated, totally respectful, and on point insofar as the Dev's public responses.
I think that CCP must meet these criticisms head on. I'd like to see a blog specifically on Customer dissatisfaction w/ a detailed plan of action. That would satisfy me.
But, I do know that CCP is working on the problem and working hard. How? Experience. They always have and they always will put this game first.
Now, as for people leaving. Personally, I think, to a certain degree, that would be a good thing. But, that is a selfish sentiment on my part. Like all things -- time will tell and by hook or by crook I will be here after the dust settles.

As do I. I remember a period of months when the old highway systems were a no-go area. I remember every weekend GM warnings popping up listing dozens of systems not to go to or you'd get stuck. Did I whine then? Nope, I did what I do now with Jita, find a way around. At least now when a system's overloaded you'll be held in a queue until it can cope, giving you the option to leave and do something else. Back then you'd just fall into the stuck pit with no warning and have to stay there while the GM's worked through the stuck queues 100's deep.

The trouble is that all these lag reducing measures have come against the background of rapid growth in player numbers, and thus the load being placed on the server. If the server is improved by 20%, but there are 20% more players, then the lag situation will remain exactly the same. That doesn't mean the lag-reducing measures haven't made things better - just imagine what it would have been like if they'd done nothing.
One other thing, if you don't trust anything CCP say, why do you give them your money? Why do you install their software on your computer and tell your firewall to trust it?

People aren't blasting anyone raising a concern. They're blasting people who raise the same concern that has already been raised dozens of times already, and has already been responded to by CCP elsewhere.
How fast something can be fixed is not affected one jot by how much people complain about it. CCP are not sitting there drinking beer waiting for the whinage to reach a certain level before starting work on the problems.
Excessive complaining can also have it's own detrimental effects - the huge noise of issues they already know about and addressed will drown out the things that actually need their attention. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

I understand people get upset once in a while about this game, I know I have. People have so much time and emotion invested in this game that sometimes people do not think logical.
When you stop enjoying the game, take a break. Ive taken 2 6 months + breaks from the game and I come back all refresehed and ready to jump back into the pilots seat. OP, it sounds like its break time for you.

Originally by: Thuul'Khalat So, the last couple of weeks we have been seeing the game becoming more and more lagged, bordering to completely unplayable.
First off, I don't really have any lag, at least no more than any other MMO and I've played some bad ones. SWG, WoW-->IF. Yea.
Also, the devs don't have time to troll the forums and look for whiners like you and post. They are trying to fix the problems. MMO's have always been a secretive bunch and EVE isn't any different. People always are left in the dark. Get used to it, or leave, but I'll tell you this its no better at any other MMO. If you no lag, then play a non-MMO game.

Did you conveniently forget that when those requests go out, a specific sticky thread is created and designated for that purpose, which the devs specifically monitor? But even with that in place, the moderators still have to work hard to make people use it, as people always seem to feel their opinion on the subject is so important it needs it's own thread, and the Devs should go to their thread, rather than them going to the Devs one. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

This forum is mainly for the community. While the Devs to give out information here its mainly for us the players to discuss intergalatic affairs and the like.
Let me let you in on something that any person who works in customer services will be able to tell you. Some customers are never satisfied with the level of information given to them. If we got the pop up at the start saying "Yes we know there's lag and we're working on it" then some of the player would carry on with questions like. What are you doing? How many people are working on it? What level of experience do these people have? Shouldn't you be using this programming language instead? Would a different blend of coffee in the canteen improve things? Should they even be drinking coffee? and so on ..........
We have had people on the forum question quite seriously the amount of alcohol the devs drink.
Personally I think the level of information the Devs give out is just about right. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

That was during the initial release of the game. The first 6 months were a bit of a pain but everyone expects that when a new mmo is release. This is 3 years later and lag is terrible. And I don't hang around in high sec. Even when I was living in deep in 0.0 there was bad lag.

Actually I cancelled all 3 of my accounts till CCP decides to get their heads out of their asses. Player growth is just an excuse. This should of been taken into consideration when they were projecting there capacity needs. The problem is CCP used to say how their cluster could support up to 100k users. I'm actually pretty sure it's not a hardware issue we're having here, the server imo can cope with more than what is currently going on. It's the software. And if you guys really think it's so easy to fix lag in a mmo please, do disclose this incredible miracle to ccp, i'll be your personal slave for a while if you do.

Because when someone starts complaining about an issue that has never been raised before, it'll more than likely get downed out by the piles of "OMG t3h server suxxor and CCP are liars" threads.
I'm not against complaints, just against constantly repeated, redundant complaints.

I personally am praying for more lag. Because if lag increases then all the ex-WoW oversensitive "OH MY GOD THE SKY IS FALLING I AM OUTRAGED" whiners will quit. Then the subscriber base will go back down and there will be less lag. In the end More Lag = less annoying whiney people, and less lag. Kill two birds with one stone.

Whats lag?
hahaha!
Im so tired of all this whining. I often wonder if people don't actually believe that data has to travel to get where its going and back. That and I think that often what people percieve as lag is actually personal system performance.
And no, I dont have lag.
Im ready for the new headline "PEAK CONCURRENT WHINING THREAD RECORD REACHED!"

The OP is right!
Signed.
At least, for me, as a 2 account subscriber, it's the beginning of the end.
The issues are, for sure, a concern. But worst than that is the lack of COMMUNICATIONS with the community, like they could say: "Leave, your 30 bucks/month will not change nothing, we have a lot of fanboys and they will keep paying... hahaha, I will drink a cheap american beer... go, go."

Some of us are wondering when it will be the end of the end.

ahh screw that, my corp just made friends with several others and now has 0.0 access being negociated, and it all happened by chance!
For us, these little quibbles mean nothing, for us, it's the end of the beginning :)

Firstly, CCP is aware of the problems we've all had lately, and I think we can all (well, at least most of us) agree that their time is better spend on fixing those problems instead of replying to umpteen threads about it. Us moderators however, haven't - so I've compiled a small collection of answers on the related topics for your pleasure.

There was a time when you had to use cassete tapes to play games and big floppy disk¦s
and now the scent of any lag or anything not suiting you everyone throws a hissy fitt .. Enjoy RL then no lag there or change games or do something else then think that the forum is your whine place seriously no one cares except the whiners and your wasting peoples time with theese threads ..
oh hey get a job at CCP there hiring and sit there and whine at them ..
Stop tbh.
It's an enourmous problem and practically everyone agrees.
You're just arguing for the sake of it.
End.

I'm loosing faith, and I really don't want to.
hmmmm, this thread and about 30 like it, clueless because they dont search first and want to vent. go play WOW. |

Would it make you happy if CCP came in and said they know about the lag, and are doing everything they can to try and deal with it?
Maybe, but you'd have the *******s and trolls come out in force, saying how much CCP sucks at coding and the servers suck...etc, and CCP would just be left with pages of hate.

@ Ivan thank you those links now sigged temporarily while the current level of lag threads continues I may add more if anyone has any good dev responses they want to link to.
@ Spaja Saist Seriously my freind you need to get a bit of perspective. You state you have canceled your accounts while this issue goes on. Can I strongly reccomend you go outside and smell the roses a bit while you wait. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Got Lag? Redundancy on POS-lag Wrangler on http://myeve. |

People who say that don't mean it. If they were serious they'd just do it and not spend time telling people.
Afterall, Avon's still here.

Originally by: Sosus Red DOes the op really think CCP does not want thier game....thier creation...the whole reason for CCPs' existence, to run as best as possible??? I understand people get upset once in a while about this game, I know I have. People have so much time and emotion invested in this game that sometimes people do not think logical.
When you stop enjoying the game, take a break. Ive taken 2 6 months + breaks from the game and I come back all refresehed and ready to jump back into the pilots seat. OP, it sounds like its break time for you.
any grammar mistakes were intentional.
I don't think anyone believes CCP doesn't love their game and want people to enjoy it. The problem is people like myself no longer believe they are capable of fixing it.
If they're not capable of fixing it then why complain? Accordig to you they cant do anything about it. Listen to this cool stationwhile you play |
