Seriously, does anyone think the camouflaged ships are cool looking? It was a novelty on a few ships back in the day, but now it seems to be on quite a few more since I've come back to the game.
So, down with camo! |

I'd like to see the camo gone. Mainly because its not really serving a function and while some added work for the graphics department we could have better skins for variety in eve imo.
You see camo works when not moving or moving really slow. Really slow would be the USMC scout sniper crawling really slow for many many meters to get that spot unseen to snipe the target. Now if said sniper was up and then running a pace that would give an 18 minute pft time.....even a sentry with the worst vision in the world is seeing that. I don't care how good their ghillie suit is, this is gonna stand out. Let alone a ship the size of a navy bs cruising at like 300 m/s (we'll give it an AB).
That and schemes don't even match space. Takes away even standing still. I spent some time at 29 palms (USMC has a training area there, really big one to let the tanks roam free). Desert camo works great in the desert areas there. Now if that m1 abrams is chilling in garrison in the motor pool, you don't not see it lol.

You do understand camouflage isn't camo's only function right?

I hate the camo ships. Being a USian, I associate camo with redneck Tacticool morons who are too drunk/stoned/wasted to join the real army, and doomsday preppers. There's nothing positive about camo at all, aside from when it's being used for it's intended purpose. Which it can't do in space.
But still. Some people like it. Let them have their fun. Soon we will be able to skin our own ships and it won't matter anyway.

Yes. Its a skin to add variety to the game. They could make up better ones my take away.
out of eve it also serve as identifying feature as well. For say TT warhammer 40k I could paint up sections of Imperial guard troops/tanks a certain camo scheme to show they are platoon 1, 2, 3, etc. Or real life you can identify armed forces branches and even nations by the cammo scheme. Working combined arms exercises its not hard to tell the Marine grunt from the US Army one from the say Thai or ROK forces.
Eve's cammo is not even doing this. hundreds of say navy scorpions....all the same.

I think camoflage paint is absurd in the vastness of space. Getting a visual on an enemy is the last thing you would do when detecting them. Even in EVE... I find it hard to believe anyone takes the time to look at each other's paint jobs to work out what ship they are flying.

Camo is deisgned to break up your outline so could still work against optical measures, combine that with the angular deign of say...the gila and you have a ship cutting down it's sig in two ways already.
Failing being given dazzle camo I want nanoblack paint for my ships. It' reflects absolutely no light at all so would just leave a gila shaped hole in space. And I'd make the crew turn the lights of so none shone through the windows that I of course have on all my ships. |

Upvote for Dazzle :)
I have no chance to hide my orca in space so it should look at least like something different. Call it a POP-camouflage (problem of other people) - it should look so weird that any pirate should run away and say "no, that's a problem of someone else".
Pink maybe in combination with green, blue flowers and a touch of purple? |

Shouldn't a ship camouflaged for space be like black with stars painted on it or something?

No it should be white with special material to refract the incoming light and electrically charged to refract incoming charged matter around it to the path of motion of the phenomena. |

I'd imagine empire military spaceship camo would either be black, or different jagged trianglular gradients of grey patterned to blend into wreckage.
Jagged grey to blend into wreckage would be pretty evocative of real world military while making more sense in space. |

Also, evocative of navy ships these days would be generally grey ships with clear nationalistic symbols on the hull, and some intimidating straight lined swathes of color. Mostly singular grey though, but that might encroach on T1 Caldari ship design, so the wreckage triangles or grey with color breaks might make more sense. Google image searching spaceship military gave some decent examples of artwork in that direction.
How about an elegant combination of the two? Top half could be Grey wreckage triangles broken with factional military stripes/swathes of color and a lower half of grey, overlaid with a few nicely visible factional icons in key places on the hull.
On a side note, google image searching "national battleship" lead with a bunch of horse pictures, so I got to learn about a historical race horse which was neat. |

I personally don't hate it, but I wonder why the republic fleet stuff is green camo, as opposed to red or orange or something more fitting to their race. |

CCP needs to get their subscriptions wherever possible, including from trailer parks, douchey dude-bros, prepubescent dingbats, and people with no taste. Thus camouflage ships.
Yeah, I think they suck too.
Though to be fair, they don't look as bad now with PBR, since the patterns have been made larger and with less contrast. |
