System: Shihuken Location: ice field
What was there? 95 gibberish names and a few macro hunters futilely trying to hamper the operation.
Why couldn't they?
2 different macros: 1 that has the mining boats (mackinaws for the most part) mine to a full hold, warp to station, unload, and return to the exact spot and resume mining within seconds. 1 that uses a group of 3 mackinaws and generally a t2 hauler (occator) that snaps up the ore so fast you can sit there with the can open and only see a flash as the ore goes from can to hauler.
I send a petition in saying: Come, look! See! The response? 'Give us names'. Like... list the whole local channel?
They never bothered to come and see what was happening and note the names for themselves.
Which leads to the confirmation: CCP does not care about the prevalence of market unbalancing macros in empire.

- (On phone) I'm seeing gang members in the mall officer!
- OK, what do they look like?
- What? You want me to give you ALL of their descriptions? You don't care enough to come see for yourself?
 - Got grief?

Mess with their cans, take their ice, blow up their hauler.....don't wait for the GM to come do something because you'll go blue holding your breath. I reported a ton of macroers and they are still at it. It's way more fun to mess with them.

1 monitor 1 local window Petition window freezes the UI.
So they got like 7 names of 90. check next week, those 7 names will still be there. Check next month, still there.
And, even on the off chance that they're kicked... 7 others are already qued up in training to take over within 15 minutes.

Sorry, but you are just being lazy. Take a screenshot of the local window. Put it up somewhere. Create new petition on web site instead of ingame. Give details and linky to screenie (or several screenies).
Done. Simple, no?

I think their afraid of banning people without being 100% sure their macroing.
Well:
BAN THE ROID KISSING W***ERS. If u get a message saying " Why did u ban me!" They might not have been macroing.
But really, u think that the guy would think/care about asking why he was banned if he Macro's the **** out of eve? He will know exactly what he's done wrong anyway.
So ban those ****s without thinking more then twice.

Edited by: Druadan on 26/09/2006 15:20:24 He's not being lazy, the GM was. Like it would have taken anything for the GM to get to Shihuken and see for his self. You want the reporter to make 13 screenshots, upload them somewhere, all to report the macro-ers? He was doing a good thing by reporting it to CCP, and the GM didn't care enough to go and check it out. A 95-man macro-miner operation? Hell, I wouldda gone to see it just out of interest. The GMs are the police of the game, and they are given awesome ships to fly, not to sit in-station looking at. If I was at CCP I'd be getting hold of the name of the GM who 'responded' and thinking about firing him. You can't be a GM and expect the players to do all the work for you.

That has always been my thinking too.
Ban anyone you think might be a macro miner, and then when people complain deal with them one on one. The macro'ers, for the most part, won't complain. ___________________________________________ The deeper you stick it in your vein, the deeper the thoughts there's no more pain. ___________________________________________

The GMs have enough work on their plates without dropping everything becuase one player shouts "Come look!". You don't know why they asked for the players names, it could have been to look up logs to monitor their behaviour etc.

Noted, but 95 macro-miners is a lot, and it would have taken no time for the GM to put his self in that system and have a look, and, once seeing the macro op, then take a database time-slice for the names of characters in that system and investigate the actions of the accounts at a later time, if he's so busy when the petition comes in. __________________________________________________

That's not a solution. IPs can be spoofed, and the macro-ers don't even need to do that if they're operating from a dynamic IP address (most people are), because the address will change on re-connect. __________________________________________________

Then ban their credit card or billing adress (if they order game cards)
/shrug.
Not a perfect solution, but one more obstacle in the macro'ers face.
If it can stop another 10 out of 100 macro'ers, hey, thats 10 less macro'ers returning to the game.

Get a gang of suicide alts in Caracals and start pounding away. I'm sure there's a few mining corps out there that'd be glad to sponsor you.
Not like the macroers are going to petition you for starting over when the sec gets too low, either.

fyi a GM might very well have been in the system as they do not show up in the list. Most likely they ask for the name so they can investigate closer without having to jump around the universe.

Would be very nice if CCP start to do something more drastic than just saying "thank your for your petition, we will investigate the matter" - how about hiring some spys/investigators ingame - i bet ya alot of reliable players would be happy to give ya the information you need free of charge. Cheers z

Yeah, I like messing with macroers too, it breaks up a dull session of ice mining.
However, there's a better (if less immediately satisfying) way.
Hurt them financially in RL. Whenever you see a Google ad for an online ISK seller, click on the ad. Right-click, "open in new tab", wait 30 sec, close tab without even looking at it. After doing that a few times (don't do it more than once per site per day) you'll have cost them a barge, and it will have taken less time than it takes to switch to your suicide alt.
If enough people do this, they'll go out of business.

I think this would be useful to give to the GM's so that they can do absolutly nothing about the macrominers...

Trust me GM's do not show up in locals unless they want to, no point sneaking around if everyone can see you, also they won't ever show as online even if you add the names to your address book :) ---

Well here's what I found in 5 minutes and petitioned.
Hi
I have taken a few minutes out of my day to report just a few of the suspected macrominers in Shihuken Ice Field 1. I propose that you look into 4 different groups that I will point out here.
Group 1: WJSWKD WJSCKD1 WJSCKD2
Group 2: SANWAN YIWAN WUWAN LIUWAN
Group 3: DQQILE AILOW CENGAN
Group 4: SKYEYES CAPTAIN GOOLE MEN HATE MEN WOMANGENERAL
Each "player" within these groups have been created either within minutes, hours, or days apart. Below are pictures of the different groups and a picture of what the overview looks like with all the names of all the pilots in the icebelt. Thanks for looking into this.

We would be out there chasing them around with suicide caracals, but now they're using mackinaws, hulks, T2 haulers. One or two caras simply can't kill them before CONCORD response.
If it were not so expensive to do I would train up a half dozen suicide smartbomb BS pilots, but that takes a good 2 months to make an effective one, and they're only good for 1 suicide run.

Here you go, a solution for macro miners so simple it's really quite stupid. When someone sends an emergency 'come here, macros galore!' petition to the GMs the GM can prove very, very swiftly how many of them are macros.
Move the ice field 250km to one side. Real players will respond in a cycle or 2. Macros will take much longer to respond if they do at all.

Well, you know, that GM could have shut me up just fine by saying: I'm in local, I am watching.. I never would have continued the petition, would not have relayed my annoyance to the rest of the channel and prompted this post.
Simple.
And yes, we the players understand that the GMs are under a supreme load wiping out spammers on trials, other exploits, billing... yadda yadda. But damn, why not get a couple of GMs and set them to just this task... autobanning any name they see in a petition more than a few times, especially if it's a completely idiotic name that is just one in a series. Most macro farmers will just shrug it off and activate their standby accounts until those are deleted, rinse & repeat. If the GM's are quick enough the standby chars will be whittled down in a month or two. |

Why? MONEY.
There is nothing like having 10,000 accounts paying and not being used because they are training the alts to farm, and to replace used up accounts....
That is $150,000/month in US dollars. Someone has to pay the private CCP cook, right?
(10,000 is my made up number, im guessing there are at least 10,000 farmers out there.)
What he said.
Farmers have now become a lobby, and money talks. --- Add a MANUAL 0km warp option. Leave autopilot at 15km ranges. Done. All fixed. |
