I know some pirates who use this lame tactics. Someone keeps his alts all the day logged on and cloaked. If someone logs in and starts to mine with his barge, he will warp on and try to kill miners. And if there are some people who try to kill him he warps off his SS and hits cloak button.
btw, he is friend of RA.

And thus, your argument falls apart.
Look up the defention of a cloaking Device anywhere... this is EXACTLY what they're supposed to be for.

Edited by: MrMann on 26/09/2006 19:06:28 Honest <yeech I hate that word> advice from a member of the -10 Sec Status club.
If you are mining in .4 or lower watch Local like a hawk. Anyone pops up in local . . . immediately check their info. If they look piratey in any manner, get out of the belts pronto.
For this to work for the pirate he has to:
1) Log on.
2) Find you (if he hasn't already with his Covert Ops Alt).
3) And then warp to you.
Thus you do have time to see him log on, check him out, and haul butt out of there before he gets to you. He's not going to log on right on top of you.
In .4 or lower the happy miner is the ever vigilant miner. Killing a miner who is alert is very hard. Killing one that is complacent is all too easy.
Better yet . . . if you are going to mine in .4 or lower do it in a group with lots of body guards.
Fly Safe and remember . . . Be Poliet: carry good loot, I got kids to feed.

Cloaking doesn't keep the pirate from appearing in the Local chat channel. Ignore local at your peril.
Would you actually scan down his safespot if he wasn't cloaked and clear him out before you brought in your barge? So what does it matter?

EDIT - not my idea, just read it somewhere.

If you know excatly what is going to do, you have no excuse for getting killed. Infact, it should be very simple to setup a simple trap for him, no?

So if you couldn't use a cloak to, y'know, CLOAK what use would it be exactly? Hmm?
This is like asking for missiles to be nerfed because they fly towards your ship and blow up! Make them stop!!1111oneone.

How CAN you nerf a cloaking device? you could only remove them altogether - you can't have a cloaking device that makes you half-invisible.
perhaps an uncloaking device that makes you appear brighter?

this will be mostly fixed in the scanner/probing changes for kali where probes will be able to lock onto cloaked signatures though not precisely.

You seem to be arguing two points. Are you arguing that people shouldn't be able to sit in a safespot with a cloaking device, or are you arguing that people shouldn't use alts for recon? Alts for recon is metagaming, so I agree with that ... a bit ... but sitting with a cloaking device in a safespot is absolutely fine. __________________________________________________

Edited by: Too Kind on 26/09/2006 20:23:03 Afaik (!) you can probe cloaked ships in Kali, but they stay cloaked, once you arrive. But I think it will be easier to decloak them in that case, than now. There you have your nerf. -------------------------- Post with your main !!!111 |

Yeah, Fuel. Next time do your own research.
Why does everyone love the "log in a cloaking alt, leave it on all day in hostile space" tactic? It's lame.
