Nice write up. After all these weeks of fighting my video card burned out so I missed the last weekend of the war.
I was in some of the earlier POS attacks / defences and I have to say they were epic. Tearing round all those cap ships in a Rifter with a wing of fighters behind you is great (I'm a die hard frigate freak). Lag aside I can happily say it was like being in the first 10 minutes of Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith.
It wasn't all POS assaults though. I remember spending a very fun Friday night in my jag while the enemy heavily camped Unity. They had way more firepower than we had online.
Thinking like guerrilla fighters we got a covops on Unity and monitored the camp while the rest of us moved our frigates between POSs so their covops wouldn't know when we were warping in to attack. We had been caught out by the Nyx and it's combat jumps a few times so we opted for light hit and run rather than a stand up slug fest. As luck would have it they had battleships setting up in sniper points around the station while their 'dictor was maintaining a bubble outside the docking bay (not logging inside Unity 4TW).
Our covops got in position and we swarmed one of the snipers. As soon as he popped we warped out in every direction and waited for another opportunity. Not long after we got fighter support so I parked the jag and jumped in a Rifter since it was now the fighters doing the real work. Glad I did because after we took out the forth BS of the night the enemy started to bunch. We should have seen it coming but we were having fun and we got a bit brazen.
Sure enough we swarmed a domi only to find we had run into a wall of smartbombs. I was lagged to hell and back but I doubt it changed the outcome. Next thing I know I'm in a clone bay. That was the first time I had ever been podded. I finally popped my egg. I only had cheap implants so it didn't phase me at all but it ended a pretty mad run of luck at getting my pod out.
I clone jumped back to Unity and decided to have a go at the lone inty I was told was outside. I should have taken the Jag instead of the Rifter but I was drunk and didn't want to risk it. I got into his armour before I popped and then lost a second pod to that blasted 'dictor sphere outside the station.
I flew back down in my 2nd clone and parked it for the night. It may not sound like much but that was just one night out of a couple of months of steadiliy escalating war.
It was a lot of fun. I'm sure CCP are analysing the server data from all this right no to try and make this kind of warfare possible without so many drops. This is the stuff that puts Eve above and beyond any game I have ever seen.
Thanks to all involved.

Excellent report Seleene. This to me along with KIAEddZ report is a lot better than posting kills/kill ratio stuff. It's always interesting to read about what what "you" as a player experienced in battle.Just look at INNOMINATE NIGHTMARE's experiment. I would love to see an 'After Action Report' forum as you suggested.

Fun story and a excellent writeup, The Establishment sure have some class. Usual lag seemed to spoil it, the fighter zerg looked expensive but a very valid tactic. Can't help but think theyre going to spoil the game though.

Max is nuts. I actually started to ***** at him to get the hell away from the POS until I saw an enemy frigate explode and he's like, "Sorry, Boss, I'm busy here." -

A very detailed and fair write up seleene!
I must say when we heard MC was definitely going to join the fray, jokes about good loot was our first reaction More targets!
The battles themselves were accurately described. From my perspective it was - "get in, fight, try to stay alive" - not for yourself, but so fighters can be assigned to you!
As I ran out of interceptors and my own frigates, I was issued suicide frigates that had been purposefully fitted for one purpose...
We resisted with tenacity, however our enemy won this battle deservedly.
There was no escape during combat days, when I checked, all exit routes were well guarded by MC/ISS/UK groups to insure we could not resupply. The battles you brought were great fun and have left me with a good impression of my enemies, other than the one on my pod that survived the last battle.

Awesome account from Seleene and Ange1, I take my hat off to the defenders, you were heavily outnumbered and still put up a great fight. Its the biggest Op I'ved been involved in, the support gang was huge on our side 70-80 ships, you fought pretty much how I would of done of it with what you had there, we thought you'd go for the Support this time (admits to some concern when all those fighters appeared around my BS). Shame for all about the 2 node crashes especially with how many fighters were involved, was a nightmare getting back into game and re-assigning everything. One of my main memories from it was trying to lock Wizards damn inty every time it came out of the pos bubble. Still while it lasted it was extremely tense and exciting, respect to all involved.

Well, that is just a great write up. Nice one.
I can't say I enjoyed the conflict myself, leading 80-strong gangs in 12 hour stretches is draining, and POS wars are mostly dull. But it was certainly memorable.
Congratulations to MC on a job well done, and of course for UK/ISS on a battle well fought. -------- On vacation from ISSN |
