If you had to guess, how long before we are able to walk around stations/ships/etc? In a recent interview I've read one of the developers stating on what is being added to the game. A quote from the interview:
"Moving on to what exactly our friends at CCP have planned for the game's future, Richardsson gave me a long list of things that they are working on or thinking about:
-Faction warfare -Exploration -Combat boosters -Upgrading the graphics engine û starting with ships and moving from there -Increasing the interaction within the game -Involving the avatars more but creating planet and space station environments to move around in."
I'm sure this has already been the center of conversation, flamed, argued about, forgotten about, remembered and talked about some more. I'm new to the game, though. What's the current rumor? If there is one?

They have stated that the current, or future, graphics engines will most likely not support in-station enivronements. If they did that, they'd need nearly a separate engine for those environments. But the question is, why?
Why would we need such environments? Battles will surely not be fought in the bar, will they? Considering what my Gallente/Gallente alt is wearing*, will the game move to a higher rating? Hopefully, there won't be any CS-like abilities on planets or in stations.

Planetary flight is tentatively scheduled to be in the expansion after all three parts of Revelations, I would guess an 'out of pod' environment expansion to be after that. However, this is subject to change. At the current rate, I would estimate 2 years before deployment, if at all.
For those wishing to have a FPS environment in an EVE setting, I know of at least 2 mods being worked on, one for Half-life, the other for Unreal Tournament. Both are currently in the planning stages and have a ways to go yet. I am looking forward to both projects, the teams involved are very positive on 'getting things right', and ensuring they compliment the back story, nor re-write it.

Well I would like such an environment just for the social aspect of it all. I remember in SWG the cantinas were very popular. Players would just go hang out in there for a while and chat. Also I, and many of my guildmates had homes that we could decorate and personalize. I always liked to go hang out in others homes and talk and check out thier decor. We had guild halls where we would have gukld meetings so everyone would know what was happening.
I think it wojld also add a more personal touch to the game. You would not merely be a ship, or a picture. You would be a real character.

This is what brought me back to the game!
Having the ability to move around in station, would be great the i think the eve world would be complete! "i will trade a rcket launcher for a mining laser1" |

I would be all for this! But if/when they impliment it, I really hope they'd let us change things about our characters... I mean, some peoples pictures must have REALLY stiff necks and very flexible eyeballs to look like that...
Plus I'd want to make my char actually look good, instead of messing with the portrait creation without really thinking...

I have, and while I did like the game overall, it was very class base, and very unforgiving. I personally found the station interaction to be worthless, all eye candy no real added value.
If you add something like that, there has to be something to make it a rewarding experience, not for the sake of adding it. -----------

Dang .. just wanted to type that. :) Would be nice to have some sort of APC's, whit some hardcore spacemarines in it .. to capture an Outpost or maybe a POS. You would need a fleet ofcourse to protect the transport(s) with all those people in it .. while they dock with the station .. owww .. the possibilities. :)
Ahwell .. would change the whole game .. no more POS nuking .. just have a ***** FPS team and own the place. :)
I agree with the fact it didn't add alot to E&B, mostly eye-candy, but was fun to fool around with emotes and stuff, and actually SEE the person you were talking to, not some picture with text behind it in the chat.

Yeah, seriously... That's like people suggesting that there's actually a life out there, or a day and night cycle. Science fiction, all of it!
EDIT: Oh, and as far as planets go - why not just make some planets "dockable"? = serving the same purpose and offering the same services as stations, but with a different, planetary backdrop. That would do a lot for me already :) --- WTS: Forum Signatures, 30mil a piece. Evemail me!

Docking on a planet would be sweet. I'm most excited to see how atmospheric flight works though.
