Heres my 2 cents,
1 cent: Do it, I thank CCP as i cancel my 3 accounts and move on to better things. EvE being he only game i play.
1 cent #2: Don't do it, Because there is too many stresses in this world and some people need a far off galaxy to escape too for a while.
CCP would have more then half thier older. Placebase, maybe most, i really doubt people who have been playing for more a year would want to start over, _________________________________________________________ My First EvE Video Club Seals Not Sandwichs |

If so many people would quit EVE, then it might be a good idea to reduce server lag
But to start in an Ibis again, hm

I'd like it. But not now, announce it in advance. Say: in 1 year we reset (make it a big faction showdown with a clear objective and a "winner"), and from now on every 3-4 years there's a reset. A lot of gameplay things could be tweaked for more fun and less time investment (skills, cool ships etc), if there was a reset to solve the inflation problem.
It would kick a lot of people out from passivity into more conflict and a goal to "win", dominate, conquer before the time's up.
Some people with a load of sp/money may quit (while claiming how newbies have a decent shot without their advantages, ironically enough), but a lot would jump at the opportunity to join the game in a fresh world.

Not when theres a chance CCP will just reset the world again they wont.

Personally, If I knew the world was going to be reset in a year, I wouldn't bother logging on. Why train month long skills? They'll be gone in a year. Why fight for territory? It'll be gone in a year. Why bother doing anything at all? In a year it will be gone.

Well the thing a lot of people forget, or havn't learnt, or just refuse to accept is that skill points matter very little in the final out come of most things.
I see a lot of people voting yes to a reset because it would put them on an even playing field with the vets, so to speak. What would most certainly happen is, the people who are pwning now, will continue to do so, even if they were reset back into a newbie frig. I don't think people relieze this, and never will since the servers are not being rest any time soon. But there is no doubt in my mind, that the exact same players, and groups that are in controll now, will be in controll shortly after the start of a new eve.
However, reseting eve does have some other issues rather then putting everyone back into newbie frigs. For one, allience warfare would grind to a halt very quickly, as someone said, it takes a couple weeks to ancor a POS, and a year or two worth of training to take one down reliably.
You would also rid your self of the BPO cartels. But frankly I kinnda like them. No I have no BPO of my own, nor do I have a cartel, but I see no reason to punish those who were creative enough to put such a thing in place when the rest of us overlooked it. Though again, I'm certain you would see the uber rich in eve today, become the uber rich in a new eve. Because contray to the popular myth spread around by the unknowing, being rich in eve has nothing to do with skill points, nor being in the game before you. Those people are just better at playing the virtual economy then you are, and better then my self, though I don't have the delusional idea that I should be given riches through a mechanic change because some people are smarter then me in that aspect of the game.

So, for the vast majority of people posting in this thread, you're not so much interested in the game as you are interested in your investment in the game?

Think you're mixing something up... :|
Two things I'l lsay...
1. Would I like EVE to be completely reset? No, I would not, for I've pretty much gotten a certain ship class completely specialized, and working on 3 others at the moment... so that'd blow to no end.
2. Would I like to go back in time and do things differently, relive the good old days of not knowing what's around the corner, never seeing a .4 system and being scared of what'll happen(note: when I first entered a .4, I thoguht I'd get jumped by player pirates at the station and gates, not sniperwise but lil frigates and such like npc's at belts do...)? Maybe... but the only thing is that's never going to happen and I already know too much of eve to be able to relive those days :/
Yeah, I miss the days when I was a newb, not a care in the world, heck I felt going one jump to the next system over was exciting cause I might get myself lost... or killed.. mind you it was from 1.0 to .9 heh.
As for wiping the entire server to start from scratch? Nah.... that's sorta what happened when the wormhole collapsed... only a bit different.

Any player knows how hard it is to start right from the beginning. It would also be a big pain in the ass to retrain all those skills again, even more earning ISK just to get new stuff and equips. No doubt CCP will lose a lot of its players if this happens.

Would be horrible imho.
On 30k current players it would be something like : - I think over 50% would be canceling subscription shaking fist at CCP for that. ( And actually that's not really in their interest to do such a wipe... they'd go bankrupt ) - The "survivors" would stack in Empire on a roid or would just chain missions as some people do. - 0.0 would be dead.
I'd personally cancel my subscription... I've just finished a 3 or 4-months skillplan to finally get those 425 II's ( starting from about nothing in Gunnery ). I've just hit 8m SP and I definately do NOT want a wipe.
One of my corpmate has over 50m SP... imagine CCP telling him : "TQ is going to be fully resetted. You will lose every character you currently have and will have to start over from 0 again. Sorry for the inconveniences this would cause. Have fun playing EVE Online"
I could hear him from here ( well actually everyone could hear him :o ) _________________________________________

I don't feel the OP was a troll, it was just a simple what if and discuss question..
Here's a different slant on it..:
I wish I could go back in time, and been there at the start of eve, knowing what I know now.
I'd love to experience the excitement of new basic ship types being introduced, like cruisers and BCs and BSs, and being the first in my peer group to achieve these goals. I'd like to have 0.0 not already taken over by large alliances. I'd love to be the first person in my corp to have 1mill ISK.
Those aims are all impossible now, and new and different possible achievements are appearing all the time.
Of course, eve wasn't as well evolved as it is now, and the bugs and problems would have been much greater, and we probably choose to allow that to slip our memory..
I'd love a new game to be created that could categorically guarantee that it would be as good as eve is now, in 3 years time, but you just don't get that. Those players that started after beta took the risk, and got lucky.
While we're dreaming, I wish I was as successful in life, as i feel I am in eve... ahh well :-)

I wouldn't care if CCP reset EVE. Everyone would have the same crap skillpoints and equipment. Not everyone would have the same crap level of initiative and experience.

If they do that EVE lose instantly 50% of its players... and they will never come back.
Opening an new server is another solution. But would it be good to split the 25,000 players base on 2 servers?! I doubt it.

Edited by: trimdonite on 15/10/2006 10:33:54 it would be like spending weeks trying to finish a game only for it to crash just before the final boss and wipe all your save games. i know i would quit instantly. it wouldnt be me sticking a finger up at CCP, but ive trained 2 alts up since i started and i hate having to go through all the skill training again. If i ever get rid of my current alt, i will never start another because its such a chore. If i had to do it with my main character then i doubt i would have the willpower to log in anymore. I dont play the game that much, so its not like im addicted, but ive spent a lot of money on it, and i dont want to have to spend it all again to get back to where i am.
oh and 2 servers would be a bad idea too. you waste all your time and isk defending your space, only for another server to open and you attackers move onto that server and take the same space you were defending. the game would just get silly and pointless.

Some nice answers in this one by Ithildin and Minikrimi Extreme for example.
Its Lorth's anwer I'd like to add to
Quote: I don't think people relieze this, and never will since the servers are not being rest any time soon. But there is no doubt in my mind, that the exact same players, and groups that are in controll now, will be in controll shortly after the start of a new eve.
This summirises EVE as I experience it pretty much for me. I.ve been here since release. I.ve done many things and have traveled many places. Become proficient with many ships and much equipment.
But above all I have Met People. I.ve been flying with some almost my whole ingame life, others just a few years. Some I can read as a book, others I meet every once in a while as we frequent the same regions and/or social circles. Some I'd trust with my most precious, others I'd not even entrust with a single isk.
These are the people that color my daily ingame live and make that Im still playing this game. Should there be a reset i have no doubt that ( If all returned, which wont happen ) I will look up the same ppl, frequent the same regions and live the same ingame live, only now more proficiently.
Imo, nothing will realy change in the bigger social structures that have been build over the years on a rollback. At the most some small detaisl at the surface.
Mned.
